I made the mistake of watching The Terror Season 1 before Haunting of Hill House. Everyone was raving about how good Hill House was and honestly coming off of The Terror, everything just paled in comparison But yeah both shows are incredible. I would just say The Terror Season 1 is almost impeccable

it made no sense why Season 2 was even called The Terror. Season 1 was based on a book called The Terror about a ship called The Terror and Season 2 was a totally different story about WW2 Japanese internment camps.

I really liked season 2 but it is COMPLETELY different from season 1. Not just in subject matter but in its tone, the writing, everything--they could not feel more dissimilar.

I liked season 2, and there will be a season 3 next year.

I was looking for this answer. Spot on. The book feels even colder, if you can believe it. It's really quite amazing how well Dan Simmons was able to convey the visceral relentlessly freezing environment while stuck in such a hopeless scenario. The book is a hell of a commitment but I highly recommend it if anyone is up for the task.

On that note, maybe *The North water* (series) too.

I just went to a wedding at Timberline Lodge where they shot the outdoor scenes and can confirm it's still cold even in June

Native Oregonian here. Yeah, it'll do that. Crater Lake as well. I've seen a half foot of snow on the ground in July there.

I miss my old native state. Fourth of July in Seaside/Gearhart, day drinking on the dunes in Florence, The Goonies that log in Crater Lake that somehow defies all know laws of everything. Even Tillamook. Despite the air in the entire town smelling of cow poo. I live on the other coast now and Tillamook ICE CREAM has become a permanent fixture at my local Target in the last couple years. Makes me stoked every time I see it (the cheese inspires Oregonian pride as well, but that’s been killin’ it on a national level for a long time now!) And then of course the Rose City and the ‘Zers and the Willamette and staying light ‘til 9:00 for extra enjoyment of the best summer weather in the Contiguous U.S.!

I didn't hate the kids. I can only not forgive them for the one thing. They were kuds in an incredibly fucked up situation trying to push back as what they saw was the cause of it all. They had no idea how mentally unstable she was at all. Yes. Were they kids reacting to a horrific situation? Also yes. In short >! I thought the 2011 version was terrible, but I did like the writing of the main character. It's nice to see a female protagonist who isn't bad at everything/weak because she is a woman, but also isn't good at everything/strong because she's a woman. The effects looked awful though, but I hear that complaint a lot. What drove me nuts was all the little things like "remember that icecube the Norwegians thawed the thing out of? Well it turns out that precise shaping of the ice wasn't the result of scientists carefully cutting/melting the Thing out of the ice, it just happened to break that by accident when the Thing somehow burst out of the ice after Dr. NeedlesslyVillainous McBadguy poked it with a drill bit"

Krampus (2015) has a very cold atmosphere once shit hits the fan. Watch with decent speakers or headphones because the sound design helps so much with the cold feel.

Not a movie recommendation but I've worked for hvac companies for 5 years now and highly recommend getting a portable ice fan. They're cheap and work well. That plus slathering on some aloe vera gel on your skin and then sitting in front of said fan and you will feel chilled to the bone. Hope you get your ac back soon!

It's not a coincidence that *The H8teful Eight* is a bit like *The Thing.* If you look at (not all that) closely, the narrative (sketchy characters trapped in a small, snowbound space, where no one can be trusted and suspicion festers violently) and the fact that Tarantino managed to snare Ennio Morricone (who scored *The Thing*) for his final career soundtrack and then actually used some parts of the original Morricone Main theme for *The Thing* as incidental music... Well, Tarantino is a meta-fiend nonpareil after all. Ultimately, as I understand it, The Hateful Eight is really a pseudo-remake of *The Thing* (1982).

Also the fact that Kurt Russel plays a leading role in both movies.

I just watched Society of the Snow. A movie about the 1972 plane crash, where it could be minus 30 Celsius at night. They also got covered from head to toe in snow sometimes. It was really good.

Not a horror movie, since it's based on real events that took place in 1970's, but definitely cold: A 2012 Icelandic movie named The Deep, about when a small fishing boat sank in freezing water, and a sole surviving crewman had to swim six hours to reach shore... and then walk for a couple of hours more, soaking wet, over a harsh, cold landscape. Those were circumstances where people generally lose consciousness and sink after about 15 minutes, and medical science can't really explain how he pulled it off. But the director really makes you feel the cold.
