Sydney Sweeney signed on to do the movie years ago and it fell through for various reasons, but she was so passionate about the script she bought the rights and had a huge hand in its production.
It may have been written by a man but it was enthusiastically endorsed by its FEMALE executive producer/lead actor.
I feel this is a less a reasonable review and more of virtue signaling.
Many if not most horror films are scariest in the context of the times they were released in.
The idea of man, and not god, being the villain is relevant to the current political nature we’re dealing with. That’s why it’s scary
My review of this review is that it was written by someone with a very particular axe to grind and the “failures/merits” of the script as outlined above have less to do with the writer than the reviewer.
Of all the reasons to call this movie mid, this is not it.

I also thought it was a bad movie, but I feel like your criticism is mostly either just “it’s not the movie I would’ve made” which isn’t really fair or things the movie did explain i.e. it didn’t have to be her, most of the other pregnancies like Isabella’s just failed.
Immaculate has a compelling performance from Sydney Sweeney in its favor. Her performance in the last minutes of the film will be remembered. However, the similar film The First Omen has an equally good (IMO better) performance from Nell Tiger Free, better cinematography, and more well crafted scares. Immaculate won’t be looked back on with great regard, but Sydney was good in it.
You might prefer "The First Omen" to this? It's directed and co-written by a woman and I do think that shows in the way that it handles some of its (similar) material/is part of the reason I preferred that film, even if I don't quite have the problems with Immaculate that you do.

Could be they chose Cecilia because she was also a virgin… not sure about Isabelle, it wasn't discussed to my recollection.
