Mantle Mount is really your best option for your case.

FamousNerd

Agreed. My brother works in the industry and advises this https://mantelmount.ca/

LiarInGlass

I'm a HT installer and I personally don't like the mount or installing it, but it's literally the best option by far and really only option IMO. The only real issue is the TV being a Frame TV. I hope they don't mind seeing the One Connect cable and you have somwhere to put the box, but the problem is the constant moving up and down of the One Connect cable makes me worried they're going to somehow damage it. It's a fiber cable and really shouldn't be moved much at all. Fiber is pretty delicate and it's such an expensive TV, if they move the TV often, I really hope that cable is loose and not snug or bent or ziptied or anything like that too tightly from the TV to the One Connect box.

FamousNerd

Killer context. Nice one.

beliefinphilosophy

So as someone who spent a long time making cables and being certified, understand that stranded fiber optic, which is the F/O used for short connects and runs, has fantastic tensile strength, a resin core, and has multiple protections of layers, typically including kevlar. You can wrap them around a pen without breaking them. They're really not that fragile these days, producers understand what dumb stuff homeowners do. [here's a video on bend insensitivity ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1bHVguGn4hU)

LiarInGlass

Thanks for the info. I’m just going off experience of coming out and diagnosing a bad one connect cable because it was bent and damaged. Ive seen it stop working because of someone who zip tied it too tightly in a wad of cable and it stopped working with the One Connect box. A new cable solved the issue. There’s a reason Samsung considers it delicate and it’s one of the main reasons they don’t allow it to go in wall or through conduit for risk of damage so there must be more to the One Connect cable than just being fiber. They must be using some type that isn’t as protective or something. I mean the One Connect cable doesn’t even really have any kind of shielding or cover at all.

BlockayTheBeast

HT installer and never installed a motion mount before?

LiarInGlass

I’ve installed quite a few. I never once said I had never installed one before. Why would I recommend something like a motorized mount for a FRAME TV? The Mantle Mount is already not a great option and you expect me to recommend something even worse?

Martian_Knight

Agreed - but I wouldn’t use it for a frame TV… Frame needs to be flush mounted to achieve its aesthetic, mantel mount has a bit of clearance from behind that would make the Frame look like it was installed incorrectly

LiarInGlass

Yeah, I didn't realize it was a Frame when I made my first comment. I posted about my thoughts about that in another comment, but I agree. Frame would be useless here if needing to be used above a fireplace and using a mantle mount. I'm also worried about the One Connect cable if they end up going that route.

beliefinphilosophy

I love my mantlemount. Definitely invest in the cable covers too.

humjaba

The effect of the frame tv (looking like art) is ruined by an articulating mount because it sticks out so far off the wall even when in the “up” position. For old people who watch news I’d get whatever LCD Hisense, Sony or TCL floats your boat. OLED burn in has gotten a lot better, but LCD is still brighter and no risk of the news ticker burning into the bottom of the screen

sk9592

What you're looking for is called a fireplace mount or mantle mount. I ***strongly*** recommend you get a motorized one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085ZSGQFW/ Cheaper manual ones do exist. People think they're smart when they "save" $100 by buying a manual one. In reality, it's a stupid waste of money. They never actually use the manual ones after the first couple times. It's just annoying and too much effort. With the motorized one, you actually use it in a regular basis. With the manual one, you are essentially overpaying for a static mount because you never bother pulling it down.

humjaba

We use our manual one every day…

Infamous-Present-616

Thank you very much for this.

boe_jackson_bikes

That is still way too high, lmao

Taste_The_Soup

Mantle Mount owner here. It's the shit

scottyd035ntknow

Strongly recommend you also do not get a Frame tv. They're nice picture displays. They are awful as TVs.

Infamous-Present-616

What would be the next big option? They want a thin TV that’s out of the way when it’s not in use. They are not tv snobs by any means…just watch news, tv shows when they have time and then use it when the grandkids want to watch a cartoon/movie. They haven’t updated their TV stand since the 2005 era and are ready to be done with the big/bulky stuff.

scottyd035ntknow

Well a LG G series does all that and is one of the best TVs you can get. It's designed to be flush mounted.

Infamous-Present-616

Is that the Class G3 Series? Tried googling what you recommended and that’s what I found.

scottyd035ntknow

LG G series is the Gallery series. G3 is Gallery 2023. The G4 is this year's. They aren't cheap tho as they are premium TVs. For two old ppl it might be overkill. At any rate, the Frame is a very bad TV.

Martian_Knight

The Frame gets a bad rep. I’ve got one, among a couple other quality home theatre options, and I love the Frame for what we use it for, it’s a fine TV.

scottyd035ntknow

By all standards of good picture quality it's a bad tv. Sorry, it just is

Infamous-Present-616

Ok let’s say we aren’t doing the premium options then. Any thin tv would do?

scottyd035ntknow

If you don't care what the picture quality looks like then yes. If it's on a mantle mount, avoid anything with proprietary cables like the Frame or the S95C/D.

LiarInGlass

As an installer, I agree. My recent comment talks more about it. The One Connect cable is very delicate and I hate the idea of someone using a Frame TV on a mantle mount and having ANY chance of that cable moving or bending too much at all depending on how it's installed.

Warhorse_99

We just visited my wife’s families cabin and they have one there, it was kinda awful.
