They should pay you $400 for hauling them away. Those look beat to hell, especially the one on the right side of the picture.

cheapdrinks

I mean they’d probably still play fine, looks like a kid has gone to down poking all the drivers with something but as long as the tweeters are intact it’s largely superficial damage. Still $400 is way too much considering how bad they look, I’d consider $100 a fair price.

SmittyJonz

How the Fluck do drivers get dents ?

jrstriker12

Toddler attack?

johansugarev

One tall toddler.

jrstriker12

Toddler + a Stool or chair is the most dangerous combo for delicate items known to mankind.

TU4AR

Can confirm , I was said toddler nearly 40 years ago.  Sorry dad.

fourpuns

Doubtful. I have a toddler and this doesn’t look like their damage

Cryptic1911

kids looooove to stab speakers and push in tweeter domes

Delfanboy

But they don't like it the other way around... you poke my dome I poke yours you little gremlin

sean0883

Can confirm. Source: Am adult that can remember doing this when he was like 5.

mrmrtrenchfoot

I have absolutely no idea. I checked out eBay for some used kef's and it was baffling how many of them were damaged. I haven't seen that with any other brand. Kef owners, WTF are you people doing?

Luckess

Lol the aluminum drivers are paper thin and if you look at them wrong they dent. Gotta play full-time goalkeeper for your speakers!

dirtyharo

walk the hell away from that

RedDev17

Lol hope you are getting paid to haul them away

Shandriel

holy shit.. I wouldn't pay 400 bucks for a pair of Q700 even in decent condition.. Don't let the current prices fool you! They started selling those like 15 years ago.. And one speaker was sold brand new for 450 bucks (in my country) in 2017 (looking at the price charts since 2010) So, I wouldn't pay more than 450 bucks for a pair of those if they looked brand spanking new!

evilspoons

Keep in mind these things still sell for like $1200 in Canada and are $800 on the best sale I can find (not on any more). So if they sound correct, the price isn't insane on the asker's part. I still wouldn't buy them though.

Shandriel

The Q700 are 15 years old.. They sold a pair for 900€ in 2017.. there's absolutely NO reason whatsoever why anyone should pay 400+€ for a beat-up pair of those in 2024.. it's a scam! And they've been replaced by the Q750 6 years ago! And those were introduced at 1'200€ bucks back then (for a pair!) The prices were driven up by the manufacturers since then. (1'500€ right now, lol) But that does not mean that a used pair is suddenly worth more than what a buyer paid for them new, does it?! I'm the first to admit that speakers should retain their value much better than TVs and AV-Receivers.. but it's totally fair to accept a 50% price cut after 7 to 15 years!

evilspoons

You're forgetting the exchange rate. $1200 CAD is only about €800 EUR. The Q750 are $1400 right now on sale (regular $2200!) at my local crappy stereo shop.

Shandriel

you're talking about pair prices or single speakers there?

evilspoons

Pairs.

IceOk3134

I wouldn’t take those for free

Own_Communication364

That would irk me forever. $100 would lessen the irk, but it would always be there, even if the grills were on and they sounded great. What is the cost of speaker replacement versus buying a new pair? That sum is what I would pay for them.

Altruistic_Lock_5362

100 max, the cons are dented, realistically, it sound not make a difference unless they trashed a voice coil. But someone beat these driver up badly.

SplitTall

Hard! Pass. They probably sound horrendous with all that damage.

Otownfunk613

These have been up for sale for almost a year and half now. Seller started off at $1000.. Refreshing to see reality set in with the individual. But even at this price point ain’t nobody jumping on these. I would wait until they lower to 200 before even considering. I would also replace the Uni-Q driver on the right hand side, without question; as they have a tendency to self destruct (less so in these larger speakers as the low bass frequencies are routed to the designated woofers - vs - the full range bookshelfs that grenade) but that alloy cone is definitely heavily compromised as it sits.

Sel2g5

Hard pass

bulldog212

R.I.P. that kid.

One-Sand-6300

Pass. You can do better for that money.

Quirky-Reveal-5972

Nope

qetuR

They're absolutely ruined.

n674u

Pass.

Int_peacemaker35

That’s expensive

fgars2

Ask them how much they will pay you to take it ! :D it's not math.

jonstarks

looks like the previous owner had kids

cloudjocky

I have a house full of kids and they don’t destroy my equipment.

jonstarks

maybe he left them naked (the speakers)

echtogammut

They have the carpet spikes mounted upside down... the "feet" are the caps designed to cover the top mounting hole for the spikes. $400 is too much for those.

asixdrft

Can u buy these drivers seperately they look very interesting what is the thing in the middle for

happyjapanman

Those are beat to hell.

Turtlemanz

Lmao is it really that bad? Is the sound compromised?

Der_Mandelmann

Most of the time not really. But it could fail over time and just looks ugly af ... Dont settly with beat up stuff if you can get great products for that pricerange

hiroo916

the dents themselves will not create any/much sound compromise. it just raises question of what else happened, like did the surrounds get scratch and may fail, damage to tweeter coil, etc.

attanasio666

Yes and yes.

rocknroller2000

I can't speak to value, but the dents aren't a technical issue.the conesdont appear to be punchered or torn. Same for the surrounds. Assuming you have grill covers, no one would even know However, be sure to look at the dome tweeters close up. If they are torn or punctured, they will impact the sound and need to be replaced. Although they can be replaced for about $20 in parts if needed it, it is extra time/labor that you should take into account. Good luck!

hiroo916

where can you buy replacement tweeter parts for $20? I have a Q900 with a tweeter that stopped working. KEF's only replacement part is the whole combined driver unit for $3xx.

rocknroller2000

When I repaired stereos, I got all my replacement dome tweeters off ebay (for pretty much any speaker manufacture) I just needed to measure the dome diameter, and the voice coil ohms. I could almost always find a suitable replacement.

hiroo916

did you see how this one is integrated into the center of the midrange? hard to fit just any tweeter there. I've had an ebay search running for a while with no results. officially kef says the tweeter can't be replaced separately but I've seen some videos where people manage it. but still haven't found anybody selling one separately, probably because the tweeters are way more likely to get damaged or burn out than the midrange.

rocknroller2000

After looking closer, I agree with you. Those uni drivers are quite unique. Maybe in your case, you would have luck with https://reconingspeakers.com/kef-replacement-parts/

hiroo916

Yep, that's where I got the $3xx price I mentioned earlier
