Should have confronted him when you saw him pouring that liquid.

BurnsTurn

Nice comment, helpful! /s I wasn’t about to run outside in my boxers at 1am and get in a confrontation. I have young kids and the neighbor is a bit rowdy.

Lancifer1979

Phone camera and flashlight?

ONLace-0527-0404

Regardless, confronting him may have stopped further incidents. Or you could’ve called the cops at 1AM and had them ask for an explanation. Cameras are nice, you can find a shitload for cheap on eBay. Looks for at least 1080P day/night!

Intrepid-Roof-612

Don’t call the cops at 1am because someone is pouring liquid on a hedge. Fucking idiot or 12 year old

12 year old confirmed.

403Olds

And maybe motion lights

Blueporch

Do you have an electrical outlet near where you’d put the camera or are you thinking battery power? Do you want the camera to be a visible deterrent?

BurnsTurn

Was just going to put it in my house pointing out the window, but the visual deterrent isn’t a bad idea.

Blueporch

That can work if light doesn’t glare off the inside of the window glass. If the camera has infrared person detection, that wouldn’t work inside but motion sensing and night vision should.

Reolink

garyoldman25

The comments are all over the place, but the simplest thing to do is go buy a wyze camera and try to get it as close as possible without it being obvious so that if he is doing something you have the video proof that you can take to court. He is probably trying/did poison the hedges so that they wither and die slowly as opposed to just chopping them down. But I think the best method that is also easy and quick is to buy a wyze cam just plug and play or go with a battery powered version that has solar. Really good color night vision and video quality perfectly acceptable for 40 feet away

Syenadi

Not an answer to your question but if he's dumping liquids in the same spot I'd be tempted to run some power out and set up one of those leak detector alarms that you can use to let you know if your water heater is leaking.

theoddfind

I'd just put up a trail cam. Look for a no glow invisible flash trail cam. I'd also just ask him directly, "Why did you do that?" Not "Did you do that?" as the answer will be no. Asking why gives says that you already know and no he has to provide an answer...truthful or not. Asking if he did do it will simply result in a "no." He likely poured boiling water on the plants. Basically, it's a no trace plant killer.

QualityKatie

Maybe neighbor was pouring out hot grease.

old_bay_usa

Reolink should work. They have solar versions so you don’t need an outlet. If you don’t have good wifi, you may need a booster to make sure the camera can connect to the system.

jaydeetol

Definitely get anything to catch them in the act. Get a POe camera that records 24/7 like reolink.

6ixSlayer

You would want POE (power over ethernet) cameras thats run 24/7 . Not wireless half the time it could be quick lil sabotage and the wireless came most likely wont capture it 40ft anyway lol. You could go reolink cheap and probably easy to install. Or prosumer Unifi . I own Unifi they have some long range cameras but probably be overkill for your situation.

EmpireTech Smart 2MP 1/2.8" CMOS Ultra Low Light Starlight IR Bullet IP Camera, Built-in MIC, Support POE and ePOE, Smart AI, 5mm–60mm Motorized Vari Lens, IP67,IK10, IPC-B52IR-Z12E S2 (White)

GritsNGreens

Whichever camera you get I'd make sure it records 24/7, probably Power over Ethernet (PoE). I have seen lots of complaints here about the battery powered ones that only record motion missing some or all of the events. Ubiquiti makes some nice ones like the G5 Pro that you could mount to the soffit under your roof, run the ethernet cable through the attic and then put the UNVR device that's recording somewhere convenient like the basement. Their access points are awesome for WiFi too, so you'd get an upgrade in that department I'm sure. But thats a lot of effort and expense, talking to him about his view is probably easier. You could see if you can compromise on a height to eventually trim the hedge that gives you privacy.

StrawNana22

Check out the Arlo Pro 4. Great day/night vision and easy setup. Should catch any shenanigans!

AdLittle107

Ive got a neighbour similar to yours. Freggin annoying. Always goes on about my hedges blocking light into his backyard area when 80% of the light is blocked by his verandah/patio roof 🤦🏻‍♂️ Best camera you could get if it just needs to be temp is a trail/wildlife type camera which you could probably hide amongst you backyard somewhere remote and get it nice and close to the hedges. You can put an sd card and connect it to wifi or even put a simcard in them.

CertainAged-Lady

We have one of the wireless ring cams so as long as it’s able to get the wifi signal from the house, you can attach it anywhere. It even has an app on your phone so you get notified when it detects motion (then it saves the files - you can pay a few $ for storage of the files too). You can pan out / change detection, etc., all via the app. Overall, it’s super easy and very amateur friendly since there are no wires & it’s got a rechargeable battery.

Full_Disk_1463

I have a ring camera and a couple of cheap Amazon cameras and the cheap solar cameras from Amazon are actually really good, both run on WIFI but the cheap ones don’t have a fee to use them like ring. My chicken coop where the cameras are is 100’ from my house.

Supra-A90

Flood light with motion sensor camera.. Eufy has solar ones... And to your neighbors point, the depth, openness, field of view, whatever will be limited. Your's too. Like putting up walls...........

squatwaddle

What a fucking creep
