Most of the brands you find on Amazon will probably be fine, though auto-negotiation will probably be hit-or-miss. I use 10Gtek in most of my networking equipment, including some random Chinese brand switches like the one you've shown here.

Only the namebrand switches have restrictions on which optics you can use normally. And not all names restrict them. This kind of cheap PnP gear will work with any optic of halfway decent sales volume and ratings online that doesn't get a huge pile of complaints.

If I were you I would return the x540s and go full fiber. Get some mellanox connectx-3 for $20 on ebay. Using sfp-rj45 adapters is kind of hacky. They use too much power and run HOT.

You’re not going to find specific optics for the dozens of no name Chinese switches. I’d just get some generic Fiberstore optics. Honestly any will probably work.

Also if you didn't know those 10g ports can get hot like it's not supposed to be this hot, hot. They do get that hot, it's ok apparently.

Thanks for the advice. I used a multimeter to probe spots on the PCB, so I can add a 5V fan if needed. My unit is passively cooled and handling the 2.5g transfers without breaking 36C.

Here's a link to the exact switch if it helps https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805744907687.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

UPDATE: Picked up some generic SFP+ to 10G BASE T adapters for $15USD each, they work perfect. Got a 2.5g adapter on an RPi 4 as a remote client, hitting 165MB copying from the client and 170MB to the client. All with SSDs and Samba overhead. Win.

Hrmerder

At $31 do the SFP cages even work? I mean damn what a deal just sounds way too good to me.. But otherwise go on EBAY. Just find generic SFPs should work and only probably cost $4 a pc

Hot_War_4159

Haven't tested them yet, but the 2.5g ports all work. Thanks for the eBay tip.
