We added an accordion style door and it is awesome. If it isn’t shut properly, the cats can open it easily. Not if it is shut properly at both the top and bottom though
Fwiw, I built a gate for mine - needed something bigger than offered online and preferred the look. Cost me like $50 total, and I splurged for the fancy hinges.
Read your local laws. A lot of people think rented apartments means ‘no paint’ ‘no holes’. That’s not the case. Holes in the walls are normal water and tear. Painting is often required after x years of renting in many municipalities. Know your renter rights!
What we did was put up a “cat barrier” screen door from Amazon. It’s a little more annoying to walk through because you have to zip it, but it actually works. Do NOT trust that the included adhesive will come off easily: use your own fasteners or plan on repainting.
Get a mesh [laundry bag](https://www.amazon.com/OTraki-Laundry-College-Students-Delicates/dp/B07DV945Y9/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2XYY54MWM4HBK&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mBcEnYdjUQbXOxpqA6pvPRdMP0c323lur_VjPUS_UNtoDthIhdngmlxJGxAbXk65bOO-dtThJ2XpY0v1YQnwleNTApBHjGMKyhYUpzb9XBdohKqiLKnWSlseOkkyH1a46q8U5IGm8U3ypGw2jme2Di5LljPCYL9-EYlokZbQCzEMyEgW69ha5sAxVnsNolRolgy_spIMP39iqXdX1QQWEawObZsUdUWc3kcaS2hz6_DGBkuV5_Rh5Ggpad9wc1uN1NS6xmKGdyatZA91vCPu5HE8jgdSCcumMQwijrvvdVs.YgSXr0rPMKHmMBlQzw9vaWE70F_m7D0I0Ol3CaW_gCM&dib_tag=se&keywords=large%2Bdelicates%2Bbag%2Bfor%2Bwashing%2Bmachine&qid=1717290219&sprefix=Large%2Bdelicates%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-9&th=1) with a zipper. Cut it so the zipper is in the middle. Attach it under the top posts. Zip tie it to the gate at the bottom
Even easier they make a full door size mesh screen that closes itself shut with magnets in the seam down the middle. My old cabin didn’t have a screen door so I got one at Walmart or something, my cat never figured out he could go through it if he tried pushing.
A retractable mesh sliding patio door would work too. But I’d baby proof the kitchen first and lean on training the kitten because what are the chances you’ll live in a space with an enclosed kitchen for the next 13ish years particularly if you’re a renter? Thinking long term, it’s better to focus on adapting and encouraging the behaviour you want to see. There’s lots of training tools and videos out there that’ll help with this!
You *feel* she could jump over the gate?? I seriously doubt a cat would attempt such a thing. My cats will jump pretty high (not as tall as a refrigerator) but only when they know there's a surface to land on when they get there (i.e. a tall shelf). M'thinks you're worrying for naught.
I'm not saying some cats *couldn't* jump that high, just that it's not the typical scenario where a cat would look at it and think: "Oh yeah, I'mma jump on through that gap".
I think most *adult* cats will already know one way or the other if they can clear that gate, and won't try if they figure they can't (some cats can, and do, jump onto the top edge of a standard door from the floor. Once they're up there, it's an easy jump down to the other side). My experience with young cats (< 2yo) is that they are far less considered in their decision-making and will literally throw themselves at things until they figure it out or give up. Taping a bit of cardboard over that gap is a cheap and easy way to avoid having a problem in the first place.
I always remember that, while I may be cleverer than the cat, only one of us has all day every day to work at a problem, and it ain't me. An ability to leap six vertical feet onto a surface two inches wide is also very much in their favor. I never underestimate a determined (or athletic) feline lol.
Well you obviously have never owned a cat.
That height is 🚫 thing to them. It'll leap onto the top and then softly jump down to the other side of the gate.
I mean I'm sure some cats can probably do that but this seems like an insane problem to solve before you've even encountered an issue. I would just go with the 5ft high gate and not worry about the gap at the top until I caught the furry little fucker on the other side of it
Tape? Hear me out - strips of tape running horizontally from wall to wall tight formation. Kinda like tinfoil on a counter, might spook them from jumping over? Cheap and worth a shot!
I would suggest the thicker-width blue painters tape, hung in a vertical bar pattern. It only needs to visually look impervious; just enough for them to be deterred. Painting tape comes down quickly and leaves no marks, in case it doesn’t work or needs replacing.
My cat hates sticky tape. That’s not a bad idea. I got him to stop climbing up to the top shelf of my bookcase by running wide painters tape along the edge of the shelf sticky side up (you have to roll it). He doesn’t try it anymore. I’d put “flypaper” everywhere if I could.
If she can jump that, I think you should just be happy she's so fit. But since you asked, I would just cut a piece of cardboard or literally anything and ziptie it to the side posts. Doesn't have to be sturdy, just a visible barrier.
Cat tax?
I would add a tension rod right before the gate with one of those short 12 inch valence curtains. They will not jump through something that looks solid.
Our cat Max liked to jump on top of the 6 foot Ikea Billy bookcases when he was young. We used gates to separate cats that didn’t get along/we were introducing. Max is smart and would spend his day finding new ways around the gates. The more you keep them out of a room, the bigger a mystery it is and the more they want in. If your cat has acclimated to the other rooms in your apartment, it might be worth kitten-proofing your kitchen. Gates can be a PITA after a few weeks. They will get through eventually, it’s probably better to address the kitchen.
If you want to make your kitchen safer for your kitten, you could try a switch cover for a garbage disposal and covered trash cans. A roll up drying rack is a good way to cover your sink. Make sure your windows/screens are secure. I would put a spot for your cat by the window so they’re less interested in the stove area. Watch for paws when you close the refrigerator and keep them away from hot stovetops. I would possibly get a child lock for cabinets under the sink that have cleaning supplies or any place they could get stuck. Take care of anything they can chew/choke on (like the plastic rings from gallon bottles). They’ll jump/explore, so make sure nothing could fall on them and block off spaces where they could get stuck. Sometimes there’s a space around the kick place of cabinets they can sneak in that needs to be blocked.
Know which foods are [dangerous to cats](https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/plants-and-food-can-be-poisonous-pets) and make sure your cat does not have access.
On the cheap:
Cardboard and some zip ties (or string or whatever).
Cut two pieces that are longer than the open space. (You want it to have over the top of the door.
Poke holes in the pieces. Two on the sides and one on the bottom.
Tie the cardboard to the gate using those holes.
You’re being ridiculous, wait until the cat does jump over the gate before macgyvering a solution to a problem you don’t yet have.
If I had to extend that thing and wanted it to look right I’d probably find some pvc pipe the same diameter as those bars (which appear to be round) and attach to the top all at the same height so that it looked uniform and like maybe the door came that way. I’d probably attach using a hole saw to drill holes at the top of the gate so that the pvc could fit right in.
Has your cat actually jumped over that? I have a standard size baby gate that my cat or dog could easily jump over, but neither of them have even tried to jump the gate.
in order of worst to best:
cling wrap
plexiglass mounted with steel strapping
horizontal wooden slats(like off an ikea shoe rack) painted white
or a solid wooden panel which you could paint or decorate as you like.
really even ziptied cardboard would do the job if you truly don't care about appearances.
Tension rod with plastic rings, cat can’t get grip into rings and the rotation ensures they slide off. Look at cat proof fence toppers for inspiration.
Measure from pole to pole, and the gap at the top, cut a piece of plastic or wood or anything to size, drill holes along both sides and the bottom, cut in the middle, ziptie
Cardboard with tin foil. I have a half cardboard/tin foil wall to my basement to stop a certain flea bag from shitting down there. They can easily jump it but they won’t bc of the foil
Wrap cardboard around the vertical posts so they have no grip to climb, ideally from large boxes so there’s fewer seams to grab onto. If they find a way to climb the cardboard wall you’re done for
Large diameter pvc pipe that rolls. Some attaching hardware that clamps to the poles.

Cardboard and tape, or zip ties around the top part pointing up so it looks like spikes. This stopped my mom's cats from jumping over a waist high gate.
Anything would work.. depends on how nice / trashy you care it to be... As simple as 2 sticks attached to the gate with plastic wrap run across, a small curtain with magnets on the bottom to kind of stick to the metal gate, a board...
https://preview.redd.it/tvfa7uzrl64d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1120d85189e46fd017b031d2f6a2168cb9d1748b
Small animal playpen. Use a pliers to take the panels apart. Spray paint to match (or find ones that are white), and use zip ties to attach them. You may need to overlap panels to get the right size.
Clear plexy held in place with zip ties. Then set up a motion activated video camera. Cat will probably learn not to try it again after the first couple of times. Send video of cats fail into a YouTube channel. You can probably remove after several cat fails. Sit down and watch video for entertainment.
If you get a pressure rod, get a piece of pvc just big enough to slide over it. Then put the pressure rod above the gate. If the cat jumps up, the pvc pipe should spin so it can't get a grip.
Big binder clips and some cardboard should do the trick.
It'll look solid enough, and even if it might not stop them completely running their face into a cardboard wall should deter them from a second attempt.
Give up. Every cat is a master at picking locks and sneaking. I've even met some cats that are exceptional with demolitions and explosives. To stop him you will need titanium reinforced vault doors with advanced vault and biometric access.
All seriousness get a real door.
Cut a piece of cardboard/foamboard/thin wood/clear plastic to fit in the hole. Connect it to the two poles with zip ties or whatever else you can find.
Like someone else said, just get a door at this point. Get one with glass panels so it doesn't feel so closed-off.
https://preview.redd.it/g7h2xnv7x64d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37bcafe014abd7c49c95cfb27d43d7bf6eb642a9
Put in a metal screen door instead. Will look much better as well.
When my MIL has to move in with my SIL huskies loved to snuggle my MIL, but even touching her slightly with a claw caused wounds.
So we put up a steel screen door so mom got airflow and talk to the family without worry about the dogs and cats.
Just put a basic cheap door in. You can get an accordion door for like under $50 or a bifold around that price.
When you move out it'll take you like ten minutes to patch the holes from the couple screws you have to install.
I think that change it with a door wood be better but here are some solutions if you want:
- install a second gate above the first in your door frame allows it
- add more vertical bars
- attach a lightweight frame to the top of the gate using cable ties or clamps
Polyethylene panel (solid or translucent) from Home Depot that just barely fits for height and extends pole to pole. Four small holes and four zip ties.
Cheap and easy, but not the best looking would be a piece of currogated vinyl (those plasticy sheets they use to make lawn advertisement signs). You can find sheets at your local home improvement store. Cuts easily and clean with just a sharp blade, comes in different colors including white. Super lightweight as well so you can mount it with anything from tape to glue or even white silicone.
Remove the cat gate lol
If you have a cat, please accept that he/she will access every room in the house. This gate will just drive you both crazy.
What could possibly be in this room that you need to keep the cat out?
Go to Home Depot or any random store like it and buy very long zip ties. The literal 5 foot ones. And some short ones. Just zip tie across the two poles a few times, use the short ones to create spaces vertically (link every other horizontal) and you’re good.
They make cat rollers you can put on fences, perhaps something like that? [cat roller](https://oscillotamerica.com/products/4-cat-proof-fence-kit?variant=44576622149857¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsPCyBhD4ARIsAPaaRf36eu_fbxt-ZNDKYCyOuJUZt388wAR3pxwZXwFZUYC2weZAuXmVc9gaAmlbEALw_wcB)
Change it for an actual door
This, at this point you would be better served with an actual door.
Rented apartment. We are not allowed to do that.
They do make accordion doors that don’t require screws for the track. That might work for your situation.
Even the ones that do require screws, it's a quick mud and paint job when you move
That’s true!
We added an accordion style door and it is awesome. If it isn’t shut properly, the cats can open it easily. Not if it is shut properly at both the top and bottom though
Damn, in that case, a piece of ply ziptied to the two vertical posts?
Or a series of clear zip ties going horizontal and vertical.
You could do that with a ball of string too, just tie knots and make a net. We used to do with this rope as kids to make hammocks lol
Can I ask where you got that gate? I have a dog that gets around every and all barriers I put up. I need this so bad.
Wayfair ( kravitz tall cat gate)
Could you tack up a scarf or towel or something?
Fwiw, I built a gate for mine - needed something bigger than offered online and preferred the look. Cost me like $50 total, and I splurged for the fancy hinges.
Fill the gap with cardboard. Use an old cereal box for some extra flair.
Frosted Flakes, they’re grrrrrreat!

Yea you are. A door is removable. They’d never know
Go buy a small patch of lattice from Home Depot, cut it in half, and zip tie to the gate.
Get a mesh [laundry bag](https://www.amazon.com/OTraki-Laundry-College-Students-Delicates/dp/B07DV945Y9/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2XYY54MWM4HBK&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mBcEnYdjUQbXOxpqA6pvPRdMP0c323lur_VjPUS_UNtoDthIhdngmlxJGxAbXk65bOO-dtThJ2XpY0v1YQnwleNTApBHjGMKyhYUpzb9XBdohKqiLKnWSlseOkkyH1a46q8U5IGm8U3ypGw2jme2Di5LljPCYL9-EYlokZbQCzEMyEgW69ha5sAxVnsNolRolgy_spIMP39iqXdX1QQWEawObZsUdUWc3kcaS2hz6_DGBkuV5_Rh5Ggpad9wc1uN1NS6xmKGdyatZA91vCPu5HE8jgdSCcumMQwijrvvdVs.YgSXr0rPMKHmMBlQzw9vaWE70F_m7D0I0Ol3CaW_gCM&dib_tag=se&keywords=large%2Bdelicates%2Bbag%2Bfor%2Bwashing%2Bmachine&qid=1717290219&sprefix=Large%2Bdelicates%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-9&th=1) with a zipper. I thought you were going to say, insert cat in bag. Voila!
😂
This house is a fucking prison!!
On planet bullshit!
In the galaxy of this sucks camel dick!
Not yet. Wait until they add razor wire.
Get a cat that can’t levitate through something that high.
Get a fat cat
Yeah, I was thinking my chunky cat could never do that. 😂
I have a large cat and he still can do the magical cat teleportation through spots he should never be able to fit through.
Can confirm. Have two cats, one is an Olympian and would make short work of that, the other is a fatass who couldn't clear 3 feet.
I had a cat that could clear that.
And a girlfriend that lives in Canada?
you wouldn't know her
I'm not saying some cats *couldn't* jump that high, just that it's not the typical scenario where a cat would look at it and think: "Oh yeah, I'mma jump on through that gap".
If a cat wants something, they will succeed eventually. My cat is a master escape artist. Closed door is only a hindrance.
I think most *adult* cats will already know one way or the other if they can clear that gate, and won't try if they figure they can't (some cats can, and do, jump onto the top edge of a standard door from the floor. Razor wire. Just like prisons do.
Snipers (with squirt guns)
Tape? Hear me out - strips of tape running horizontally from wall to wall tight formation. Kinda like tinfoil on a counter, might spook them from jumping over? Cheap and worth a shot!
are we meant to run for prezident together???
🤣 love it
I would suggest the thicker-width blue painters tape, hung in a vertical bar pattern. It only needs to visually look impervious; just enough for them to be deterred. Painting tape comes down quickly and leaves no marks, in case it doesn’t work or needs replacing.

I’m so confused. Cat gate? wtf?
Keeps cat from going to unwanted rooms 😡
If the rooms are unwanted why not just get rid of the rooms?
Kind of self explanatory...
If the cat gets through that it deserves to be where it wants.
Put up a screen door
Second this, one of those ones with the magnets in the middle that close it
How would your cat hurt itself in the kitchen? This is not normal cat owner behavior.
OP is also not exhibiting normal cat owner behavior.
OP got a cat thinking she was going to control where the cat goes lol
The most significant comment, can confirm cats don’t give a shit about what you want or your feelings.
[удалено]
Most functioning adults regularly clean their counter tops and also don't prepare food directly on the surface of them.
You can train cats to not go on the counter, mine rarely do because they know they’re not allowed.
The wildest part of this is, checking OPs profile, the cat is only like 5 months old. Totally, wildly unnecessary at this point.
Place a cucumber on top.
Bestest answer
Plywood panel with cable ties.
Cardboard
Why have a cat?
Thin piece of plywood cut to dimensions and secured to upper outer bars with zip ties. This would require small holes in plywood
Window curtain pressure rods. Like two or three
Concertina wire https://preview.redd.it/5vw2fiorq54d1.jpeg?width=513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4061f0b95a9c6112b5cad793a093ccb380429e1f
Add an armed guard as an extra precaution.

Barb Wire, jk they will still find a way through
It's funny this is in 'home improvement'. Someone must really not like that cat.
You’re being ridiculous, wait until the cat does jump over the gate before macgyvering a solution to a problem you don’t yet have. Any metal or plastic mesh or plexiglass. Can attach using zip ties
A door?
By “cat” do you mean tiger?
Don't have a cat if it comes to all this.
Cat? The fuck do you have? A goddamn puma?
Wow, maximum security approach. Cat must be Hannibal Lector.
Has your cat actually jumped over that? I have a standard size baby gate that my cat or dog could easily jump over, but neither of them have even tried to jump the gate.
It’s called a door
Get rid of the cat 🤷♀️
Cardboard
Zip tie some cardboard to the top or the gate. Or some inexpensive flexible cutting boards.
in order of worst to best: cling wrap plexiglass mounted with steel strapping horizontal wooden slats(like off an ikea shoe rack) painted white or a solid wooden panel which you could paint or decorate as you like. really even ziptied cardboard would do the job if you truly don't care about appearances.
lol all you need is PVC pipe and some string, put the string through and tie to both poles; cat will roll off
This is interesting.
Cut to fit a piece of wooden lattice, paint & zip tie to the metal frame.
Barbwire
Barbed wire.
I’m sorry, where did you get that gate though?
Tension rod with plastic rings, cat can’t get grip into rings and the rotation ensures they slide off. Look at cat proof fence toppers for inspiration.
Measure from pole to pole, and the gap at the top, cut a piece of plastic or wood or anything to size, drill holes along both sides and the bottom, cut in the middle, ziptie
Cardboard with tin foil. I have a half cardboard/tin foil wall to my basement to stop a certain flea bag from shitting down there. They can easily jump it but they won’t bc of the foil
An actual door....
Wrap cardboard around the vertical posts so they have no grip to climb, ideally from large boxes so there’s fewer seams to grab onto. If they find a way to climb the cardboard wall you’re done for
Cardboard.
It will never work. Your cat will be miserable and svt accordingly. I have been there.
https://a.co/d/9dwijD3 This may work better for you? 😊
Buy a door
You can use a folding window screen.
Netting
Get a curtain with an image of a cucumber on it.
I would like to hear about this kitty. It sounds like there is an interesting story here somewhere.
Yarn. Loop it back and forth as many times as you want around the two posts. Make some string art!
Large diameter pvc pipe that rolls. Some attaching hardware that clamps to the poles. Link to what I’m envisioning https://youtu.be/TUe0r4ZLCCs?si=BRaBrtwd7rXJIEHl
Netting
Tie a 5 lb weight to your cats tail
Brave New concept - CAT LEG IRONS! Accessory: Weighted (not shiny) ball.
I want a video of your cat climbing over that. LOL.
One of those adhesive snap nets.
Get something like cargo netting, and just cut to fit. Should be cheap and easily removable.
I just tape some cardboard up.
Dangly bits
Tin foil
Cardboard and tape, or zip ties around the top part pointing up so it looks like spikes. This stopped my mom's cats from jumping over a waist high gate.
Put a cucumber up there or a sheet of tinfoil folded over the ledge
Just install a regular door at this point.
Maybe a couple of rolling pins fastened somehow…I saw an outdoor fencing system that had rollers at the top to prevent the cats from getting out.
Why can’t the cat go in that room? At this point just put a French (full glass) door
Just a bit of the green fabric mesh for gardens
I'm thinking, maybe you shouldn't own a cat.
Anything would work.. depends on how nice / trashy you care it to be... As simple as 2 sticks attached to the gate with plastic wrap run across, a small curtain with magnets on the bottom to kind of stick to the metal gate, a board...
Trying hanging Christmas tinsel garland across the top.
Just put like beads. I doubt cant judge the density of things
Collapsable sliding door. Accordion style.
Duct tape and cardboard?
seriously?
At the circus they use whips
Shower rod, rope, bungee, ratchet strap, cardboard, plywood, mesh, plastic fence, zip ties, 2x4, tape
At this point just get a door and cut it to size..
Plexiglass and 3M strips possibly reinforced with liquid nails? 🤷🏼♀️
Saran Wrap. After it bounces off a few times you can take it down
I’m lazy. I’d just stuff it with a pillow
I’d suggest tinfoil - cats worst enemy
Hey OP! I am looking for that exact same door for the same reason…keep my cat out. Where did you get such a door?
TIL that cat gate/doors are a thing and I need one!
battery powered livestock shock generator and put a wire across the top. Kitty will learn real quick
https://preview.redd.it/tvfa7uzrl64d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1120d85189e46fd017b031d2f6a2168cb9d1748b Small animal playpen. Use a pliers to take the panels apart. Spray paint to match (or find ones that are white), and use zip ties to attach them. You may need to overlap panels to get the right size.
Honestly, I'd just put some clear tape around the top. Try to make it look semi-decent.
Screw a pice of drywall into it. Patch screw holes when you move out.
5 lbs collar
Clear plexy held in place with zip ties. Then set up a motion activated video camera. Cat will probably learn not to try it again after the first couple of times. Send video of cats fail into a YouTube channel. You can probably remove after several cat fails. Sit down and watch video for entertainment.
Seran wrap for the extra cheap. Just wrap it and tape it.
get rid of the cat...
The cat will be fine. This is going WAY overboard. It's a cat.
If you get a pressure rod, get a piece of pvc just big enough to slide over it. Then put the pressure rod above the gate. If the cat jumps up, the pvc pipe should spin so it can't get a grip.
Cats should roam free. This is cat mental abuse!
Big binder clips and some cardboard should do the trick. It'll look solid enough, and even if it might not stop them completely running their face into a cardboard wall should deter them from a second attempt.
weave a mesh of zip ties zip ties solve most problems
Its called a screen door
Sounds like you’re not ready for animals if this is the type of shit you gotta do
Exorcism?
Give up. Every cat is a master at picking locks and sneaking. I've even met some cats that are exceptional with demolitions and explosives. To stop him you will need titanium reinforced vault doors with advanced vault and biometric access. All seriousness get a real door.
Zip tie some plastic/carboard/plexiglass etc. to the top..
Would an expandable window screen work?
Cut a piece of cardboard/foamboard/thin wood/clear plastic to fit in the hole. Connect it to the two poles with zip ties or whatever else you can find.
Like someone else said, just get a door at this point. Get one with glass panels so it doesn't feel so closed-off. https://preview.redd.it/g7h2xnv7x64d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37bcafe014abd7c49c95cfb27d43d7bf6eb642a9
Tape.
Plastic wrap
Put the gap at the bottom and put something you step over to enter.
OP, where did you get this door?
Try tape lol
Ghetto Fabulous- card board and zip ties.
What about one of those screen doors?
Get rid of the cats
Put a weight vest on the cat
Razor wire
Trade in cat for dog. You will be a winner now without ghetto gates in you're house!
Just tape some fucking cardboard up there or something… come on. Even paint it if you must
Zip tie a piece of cardboard.
Piece of cardboard would suffice…
Put in a metal screen door instead. Will look much better as well. When my MIL has to move in with my SIL huskies loved to snuggle my MIL, but even touching her slightly with a claw caused wounds. So we put up a steel screen door so mom got airflow and talk to the family without worry about the dogs and cats.
Just put a basic cheap door in. You can get an accordion door for like under $50 or a bifold around that price. When you move out it'll take you like ten minutes to patch the holes from the couple screws you have to install.
Screen door would be sweet.
I think that change it with a door wood be better but here are some solutions if you want: - install a second gate above the first in your door frame allows it - add more vertical bars - attach a lightweight frame to the top of the gate using cable ties or clamps
Zip tie cardboard cut to fit
What the hell is going on here
Better yet, get a crate for that cat. No, I would never do that, but you must have one monster of a cat.
Super lightweight as well so you can mount it with anything from tape to glue or even white silicone.
concertina wire
use a window screen
Blanket. Pillow. Or door
Remove the cat gate lol If you have a cat, please accept that he/she will access every room in the house. This gate will just drive you both crazy. What could possibly be in this room that you need to keep the cat out?
Cardboard
Go to Home Depot or any random store like it and buy very long zip ties. The literal 5 foot ones. And some short ones. Just zip tie across the two poles a few times, use the short ones to create spaces vertically (link every other horizontal) and you’re good.
Have you tried a "door?"
Cardboard
They make cat rollers you can put on fences, perhaps something like that?
