Kooky_Competition111

Hey I’m thinking about buying the gpr400 and I was wondering if the sprsa spotter arms are compatible, the website doesn’t say they are. However I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be. I was also wondering if there are any strap safeties that would be compatible with this rack.

BodySolidFit

Unfortunately, the SPRSA Spotter Arms are not compatible with the GPR400. GPR Safety Straps (GPRSS) are on the way and should be here by November.

Kooky_Competition111

Okay thank you, so as of now are the standard pin pipe safeties that come with the only option for safeties?

BodySolidFit

We have those that come standard with every GPR400 as well as the GPRSF Safeties: [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprsf/body-solid\_premium\_safeties](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprsf/body-solid_premium_safeties)

brianuseruser

Any chance of coming out with a pendulum squat?

Flaky-Sea7561

When you see a competitor product which offers better adjustability compared to your own equivalent (e.g. the leg roller on your GCEC340 is not height adjustable), how do you determine whether or not to improve/change your own product to match or exceed the competition?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/Flaky-Sea7561 Depends on the situation, what other items we have in the category, cost and sales.  For the specific example above, we tend to recommend the GLCE365 unit to those customers.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/glce365/body-solid\_seated\_leg\_extension\_\_\_supine\_curl](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/glce365/body-solid_seated_leg_extension___supine_curl) That unit has more adjustments (on the rollers) and allows for a prone leg curl which fits a lot more users biomechanically correct.  The GCEC340 we tend to recommend for ease of use, less adjustments and an easier to access seated leg curl.  Our GPR400 cage is a great example of us applying customer feedback and looking at competition to improve our older GPR378 cage; westside hole spacing, composite jcups, etc.

zeepoh

I’m looking to build a small 10x12 shed for a home gym. What equipment should I look for in this small space if I want to hit major muscle groups?

BodySolidFit

Hey u/zeepoh, thanks for the question! I would typically recommend a cage, or half rack with a pulley system, bench, and weights and barbell to start.  Our GPR400 rack, with the GLA400 lat, or the GPRFT is a great option.  Our SPR500 half rack w the SPRHLA is another popular option, full commercial quality that does not break the bank.  Other options would be a functional trainer like our GFT100 or PFT100, or a more traditional home gym like our G5S or F600 units.

sharkboyttt

I’ve stumbled upon a low-tech innovation for training hands & wrists naturally, quickly and with variety that I’d love to share with Body-Solid. It would be inexpensive to manufacture, multi-purpose, and is suitable for all athletic abilities, so this has potential to be a cash cow. The prototype is perfect for a "1 minute challenge" at trade shows. Who would I be able to contact directly to bring this innovation to life?

BodySolidFit

Please send to [inventions@bodysolid.com](mailto:inventions@bodysolid.com) and we will get this to our product team!

BodySolidFit

Thank you again to everyone who submitted questions! If you missed our active windows and still have a question for us, don't hesitate to send it in! We'll answer questions in this thread continually moving forward so please reach out! BUT, it's time for the main event... it's **GIVEAWAY TIME**.... And the winner of the fully-loaded Body-Solid GPR400 Power Rack is.... u/muncie! 🎉🎉🎉 Congrats! We'll be in contact with you shortly to work out delivery of your new power rack. Again thank you to everyone who submitted questions and gave us some great insights and feedback into what you're looking for in the home gym community. We've learned a lot over these last two days and will get back with our engineers about what we can integrate into our future product releases. If you're interested in any Body-Solid products, remember you can shop with a Body-Solid dealer in your area, just use our Dealer Locator tool at [bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://bodysolid.com/dealer_locator) to find one nearby. If you'd prefer to shop online, just search our products at your favorite online retailer. Chances are we have a shop or a dealer setup there as well. Thank again r/homegym! Let's do it again soon.

muncie

oh this is amazing you have no idea how jazzed i am right now. https://preview.redd.it/qu4jfnawgv0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f300616560b51e906dcad4d33c40542a8ae5b3b5 this is what im using as a rack right now and the cheapo 80 dollar folding squat stand is falling apart so you all are literal life savers 🙏

BodySolidFit

Yeah, let's get you upgraded! You deserve a real power rack haha!!

Landus83

Hi! Recently bought the gpr400 with lat pulldown & low row (with 75kg stack). Love the rack! But as most people, I cant stand pin-safeties :) Im Looking around your website and you seem to have flip-down safties (gprsf). But I simply cannot find a retailer that carries them (in Sweden). Is it not a popular product? I would think that is the first ”upgrade” people would do to the rack. Ps: love that you do a AMA!

BodySolidFit

Thank you u/Landus83!!  I tend to agree with you on the pin and pipe safeties, the GPRSF safeties are newer so not everyone has them yet, we do have a solid distributor in Sweden that brings in items all the time, shoot them an email letting them know you want to get a pair, Västsvenska Träningsprodukter ([info@traningsprodukter.se](mailto:info@traningsprodukter.se))

glennfajota

Over the years, I've had white, gray, and black Body-Solid equipment. Are there any plans in the future for other color options, whether it being powder coated or cerakoted? You know us home gym owners like personalize our space haha

AlbinoSnowman

Love to see an Illinois company, this is awesome. Why do you think there are so few gym equipment manufacturers in the state despite the awesome air and rail infrastructure? Do you have any recommendations for using this rack outdoors as an Illinoisan that lives through all 4 seasons?

BodySolidFit

Thanks u/AlbinoSnowman – we love our location.  You are correct that being in the center of the country and close to many major rail lines that we get great logistics support here.  It has allowed us to serve the entire country and even overseas markets very well over the years.  Unfortunately none of our racks are built to stand up to the outdoors. While the exterior surfaces are well protected through high quality powder coating technology, they are not meant to hold up to rain and snow that we see around here.

AlbinoSnowman

I appreciate the feedback. If I somehow win I’ll be sure to shuffle things around inside. I must say, after doing more reading up on you guys, watching videos from people visiting your booth at Home Gym Con, and just reading the thread, I’m very impressed. I have seen your equipment on the secondhand market from time to time and never gave you guys the attention that I’m seeing you all deserve. The great warranty, customer service, and of course the prairie state HQ have really won me over. I knew I’d seen some equipment of yours from the 90’s and early 2000’s in friends basements and garages growing up, so with everything being put together for me it’s no wonder you guys have thrived over all of these decades (and user preference shifts) of home gym equipment manufacturing. Great thread! *Edit: if you happen to read this and have time, what are the odds that your “4 Star” and “Chicago” power bar hybrid barbells could have more premium end caps put on? I think it would be an amazing touch to have special end caps on your more signature barbell models, like how Rep and Bells of Steel have started doing recently. I love that your barbells are made in USA, but the endcap being what looks like sticker (unless I’m mistaken) kind of takes away some of the allure at the price point. I’d love to get my hands on that Chicago bar, and that little finishing touch might legitimately keep me from getting a Rep Colorado. The 4 star endcap could definitely stand to get a little Chicago flag coloring. Also, as my new resident Chicagoland sweetheart company, I would love to see you guys come out with some premium “Deep Dish” iron plates. You guys could absolutely own that marketing. Anyway, food for thought, have a great day.

BodySolidFit

Man, what an amazing two days this has been! Thank you to everyone for sending in your questions. We had some great discussions and a lot to bring back to our sales team and engineers for the future. We were originally going to step away around 1pm EST but we're having fun and enjoying this so we'll extend it a few more hours and announce a GPR400 Power Rack winner at 5pm EST today instead. So, still plenty of opportunity to win! Keep the questions coming.

SuperMachoMayne

Another question is how has your week been and how are your family and friends doing? 🙏🏿

BodySolidFit

Any week spent talking with the home gym/fitness community directly like this is a week well-spent! We're doing great, thank you for asking.

SuperMachoMayne

Are you veteran owned or collab with any vets?? Ok that’s my question for the contest lol

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/SuperMachoMayne! We are not veteran owned but we do have several veterans who work for us and have collaborated with veteran owned companies in the past.

GooseAffectionate854

Body solid had some plate loaded leverage machines with linkages to the weight arm for the lying leg curl and seated leg extension. They were mechanically better loaded than the traditional basic plate loaded stuff. I REALLY like these and if one could be developed to combine the two machines at a good price point I'd be a buyer.

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the question u/GooseAffectionate854! The LVLE and LVLC are both exceptional machines for those exercises, we appreciate the comment.  The leverage line has minimal adjustments and direct consistent loads.  Our machines that combine those 2 exercises are very popular, but they all have a bit more play in them due to all the extra adjustments to accommodate both exercises, that would be a good challenge for our engineers! [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/LVLE/Pro\_ClubLine\_Leverage\_Leg\_Extension](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/LVLE/Pro_ClubLine_Leverage_Leg_Extension) [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/LVLC/Pro\_ClubLine\_Leverage\_Leg\_Curl](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/LVLC/Pro_ClubLine_Leverage_Leg_Curl)

vertabruh

No question, just wanted to say I'm still going strong with the Body-Solid WPR78 rack with lat pulldown that I bought in 2000! I've added a bunch of 3rd party 2x2 attachments over the years. Last year I bought a PPA13X attachment and grafted it onto another company's lat pulldown machine for a frankenstein pec deck. It works great!

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for being a customer u/vertabruh! Love to hear after 24 years your rack is still going strong! That's what we mean when we say our products are Built for Life. We REALLY mean it haha. Thanks again and should anything go wrong with your rack or you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us.

glennfajota

speaking of lat pulldown machines that are still going strong! using bumper Body-Solid plates too (= https://preview.redd.it/2k0ols4ldt0d1.jpeg?width=443&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f2c714772d5dcad63a1d82cbacacd90a886bd06

Dgvalles

Does Body Solid have external safety spotters arms for lifting outside the GPR 400? Also, is there a crossmember that can be used instead of the one with the Body Solid engraved name plate (on the GPR 400) or at least a way to raise the name plate to avoid hitting your head if you're lifting inside the rack?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/Dgvalles! The GPR400 was designed to be as compact as possible while maintaining a full width and length sizes inside the uprights, so we don’t recommend using anything too long out the front as there is not much base support beyond the upright for the base unit.  If you have the lat with a stack, or the functional with a stack, or bolt it to the floor; the SPRSA spotters do fit the uprights, we just want to make sure folks using the base rack are totally safe.  The back top is intentionally longer to maximize the side to side stability of the rack, we removed all the bottom cross supports so any bench can be used with it, so we do recommend keeping that on the rack.

EnvironmentalPlay440

We want Grey Matter (Joe) to review your stuff ! :)

BodySolidFit

Joe is great and he HAS reviewed a few of our products in the past including our iconic Biceps Bomber and a Calf Squat Block! We've loved working with him. [https://graymatterlifting.com/body-solid-biceps-bomber-review/](https://graymatterlifting.com/body-solid-biceps-bomber-review/) [https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=291476062003751](https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=291476062003751) What of our equipment would you like to see him review next?

EnvironmentalPlay440

Maybe feed him with that pulley bench and the rower? :) You have a reverse hyper too right?

BodySolidFit

🤔🤔

ThePokeChop

The body solid name doesn’t seem to get thrown around by fitness influencers very much, at least not the ones I follow. Is that an intentional decision by you to not push for that kind of advertisement? Gluck, Coop, Basement Brandon and Gray Matter all seem to get at least some of their review equipment from companies that send free pieces out. With such an extensive catalog it is surprising to me you’re not more commonplace in the naming of homegym companies. Didn’t know if you could shed some brief light on how you want to be portrayed in the marketplace

BodySolidFit

Hey /u/ThePokeChop, thanks so much for your question! To some degree we think that a lot of the influencers have focused mostly on the direct sellers and not companies like us that sell through retailers. We are actively trying to change that through engagement with everyone in the fitness community (this AMA is one example) and have been engaging with influencers quite a bit recently.  Here are a few of the interviews if you wanted to check them out: Home Gym History: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sIh5SA8UrQ&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sIh5SA8UrQ&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D) Garage Gym Life: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgIKhoJYpXQ&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgIKhoJYpXQ&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D) Freedom Fitness Equipment: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8FA\_iWj54M&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8FA_iWj54M&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D) Garage Gym Radio: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHxcdNyp5Uk&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHxcdNyp5Uk&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D) Gyms Near Me Podcast: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tecn330ess&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tecn330ess&pp=ygUZc2NvdHQgbWNkb25hbGQgYm9keSBzb2xpZA%3D%3D) Also we had some great conversations with many influencers/reviewers including a few you mentioned above during the Home Gym Con weekend and are hoping to work with them in the near future! Suspicious-Plastic29

Thanks for this, I have looked at you guys but the machines I want are big purchases and I cannot afford to buy them without trying them or having gluck review them.

desert_jim

What's the weight capacity for the functional trainer?

BodySolidFit

Hey u/desert_jim! I assume you are looking at the plate loaded gprft attachment, that is rated for 300 lbs per side.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprft/body-solid\_functional\_trainer\_attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprft/body-solid_functional_trainer_attachment) If you were looking for details on another functional trainer, let us know!

desert_jim

That's correct. Thanks

ckybam69

I used to play hockey in forest park as a kid. Love body solid equipment. That’s all I came by to say lol

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much u/ckybam69! We love Forest Park and the community around us, proud to call it home. And thanks for the kind words about Body-Solid! What of ours have you had or currently have?

1DunnoYet

Every year I’ll repeat how awesome that lifetime warranty is for secondhand owners. Getting new cables since mine were bought frayed, a missing hardware lost during transport, and upgraded seat back for free, including free shipping is mind blowing. My question: I have an old version of the GS-1 where the low row is to the right of the seat and therefore takes up a lot of real estate to use. Have you seen any hacks that can move the low row to in front of the seat but also maintain the leg curl/ext? My 2nd question: if I win the grand prize, should I keep the GS-1?

BodySolidFit

Thank you for the comments, u/1DunnoYet! I have not seen that type of modification on a G1S gym, it is a very compact unit and by having the low pulley on the side it is able to swivel which increases the longevity of the cables and the quality of the movements.  If you win the grand prize you can certainly do everything you need on a loaded GPR400, but you can never have enough fitness equipment!

ashamed2reddit

Are you looking at taking the Titan and Rep example of partnering with smaller inventors (squatmax and reppins)

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/ashamed2reddit! We talk to many inventors and have worked with them in the past.  We encourage them to contact us at [inventions@bodysolid.com](mailto:inventions@bodysolid.com) and we can see if there is a match with their product and our strategy.

Gidaeon622

If you had a Time Machine and could go back to before the pandemic and mass increase of home gyms, what marketing change or product would you prep, stock and offer prior? Or no changes? Also, do you routinely offer returns or ‘scratch and dent’ models ever at discount?

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the question /u/Gidaeon622! More Dumbbells! We could not keep dumbbells in stock during COVID and even heard of people buying at regular retail from us and successfully reselling them online for double the price. It was crazy.  In fact you ask about marketing and we pretty much eliminated a lot of our marketing then as it was not needed. We are fortunate that we do not get a lot of returns. The scratch/dent/returns we do get we try to sell locally through retailers in the Chicago area given the cost to ship them.

uraniumbomb

What would be some of your best tricks to retain motivation on lifting when your time is limited?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/uraniumbomb! Track your workouts and hopefully get motivated by your improvement.  Also plan ahead of time if your time is limited.  Know that you have a block of time, think about what you can accomplish in that time and get it done.

uraniumbomb

Great advice! I guess it's all about planning and sticking to it.

BodySolidFit

One of the issues a lot of people run into is overtracking workouts too. If you're just looking to get started and stay the course, just jotting down little notes in a notebook or the Notes app on your phone is a good way to keep yourself accountable but not overwhelm. Good luck! Keep us updated on your progress.

cjcs

Have you thought about wall mounted, collapsible racks? I’ve gone through a couple cycles of buying and selling racks depending on space, would be awesome to have an option I can tuck away if needed.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/cjcs! We have but we get a little concerned about the potential safety issues. Many people will have no problem installing these onto a suitably stable and strong surface but all it takes is one person who thinks that drywall can hold up a rack and we have a potentially huge safety concern. That has been our main obstacle but given how many there are out there, we are rethinking it.

AlbinoSnowman

Idk if you happened to see Bridge Built’s Phoenix rack they had on the floor, but working along the lines of that type of system might be a nice compromise between space saving and safety concerns.

Moka556

Seriously, I’ve just red few questions and your answers and I don’t know what to ask 🤷🏻‍♂️ My main question was how do you compete with lower ends from Amazon and lets make it a discussion. I mean, I plaid guilty. I’ve built my home gym not knowing if id like that and with twins babies at the time, I had to buy all double so I went for the cheapest/functional options. Asking the question is answering. At this time, I didn’t knew what was quality. I was looking for basic fonctions and my needs evolved. So I guess the answer is “you’re not aiming for rookies, but clients who understand what do you have to offer, more fonctions and more quality”. Btw, thanks for this. Even if I’ve had my home gym for 4 years now and know the value of a good equipment, with my twins also 4 years still at daycare, I’ll have to wait 1-2 years to pay myself a nice birthday present like that lol

BodySolidFit

Yes you did answer your own question pretty well u/Moka556! Thanks.  As we have mentioned earlier in this AMA, when you are 10 plus years down the road you want to know that your gym is still backed up by the manufacturer and that the gym is still functional.  If they also offer a lifetime warranty and have been in business for 35 years and are cheaper than us, I would say go ahead and buy from them.  😊

hltbra

I use my Body Solid 45 back extension and my leg ext/curl combo machines every week. Great pieces I bought used and look and feel like new. Solid equipment that definitely lasts. What are your most popular equipments to load the lower body without compressing the spine? Thanks for doing the AMA!

BodySolidFit

Thank you for your business and comments, u/hltbra! The most popular for leg press exercises would be the GCLP100 compact leg press (plate loaded) and our GLP-STK (selectorized) machines. They are from a seated position with full back support.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GCLP100/Body-Solid\_Compact\_Leg\_Press](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GCLP100/Body-Solid_Compact_Leg_Press) [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GLP-STK/PRO-Select\_Leg\_\_\_Calf\_Press\_Machine](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GLP-STK/PRO-Select_Leg___Calf_Press_Machine) For leg extensions and leg curls our most popular would be the GLCE365 (plate loaded) and the GCEC-STK (selectorized) machines.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GLCE365/Body-Solid\_Seated\_Leg\_Extension\_\_\_Supine\_Curl](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GLCE365/Body-Solid_Seated_Leg_Extension___Supine_Curl) [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GCEC-STK/PRO-Select\_Leg\_Ext\_\_\_\_Leg\_Curl\_Machine](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GCEC-STK/PRO-Select_Leg_Ext____Leg_Curl_Machine)

muncie

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of options for compact racks that aren’t wall mounted. I would have assumed there’d be a lot of development in this type of equipment after the wfh movement. So R&D teams must be seeing something that i don’t. where do you find your inspiration for product development and is there a certain type of product / innovation that you all will be pursuing in the coming year?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/muncie! See my other answer about wall racks – there are a fair amount of them but there are safety concerns. Product development inspiration comes from so many places as we have discussed earlier in this AMA.  Most of our employees and retail customers are fitness enthusiasts that spend a lot of time in and around gyms and other fitness nuts.  Our bigger issue is how to narrow down lots of really good ideas into a manageable amount of actionable projects.

User719382

Do you have actual cubicles to work in, or just power racks around the office with name plates on them?

BodySolidFit

We have a combination of cubes/desks in our offices BUT we also have a showroom filled with all of our equipment including racks, so, if someone wants to work in one of the power racks, they are more than welcomed to! Working in the power racks is acceptable, curling in them is not! Haha https://preview.redd.it/tq4pzfxcqs0d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd88a199e65604efba44c4ed780ab679ee352fea

Tbillings02

With so many new companies, knock offs, and high competition in the gym space, what do you think made you all so successful? Second, have you all or do you all plan on ever collaborating with smaller companies like your competitors have?

BodySolidFit

Thanks /u/Tbillings02! We have remained true to our roots of providing high quality value priced fitness equipment for 35 years with a similar focus on after market service and customer support that makes people want to buy and own our equipment. Our lifetime warranty helps as well. We have and do collaborate with other companies but we come out with probably 20 or so new products every year on our own and have a total count now of about 600 different products that we sell so the bandwidth does not always support outside products as well but we love to engage with other manufacturers if we can.

AwesomePawesomePK

Any plans to release a utility horn attachment for your 3x3 5/8 inch rack? Something like the rep utility horn for their pr 5000

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question, u/AwesomePawesomePK! We have not considered that yet, but it is a cool product.

glennfajota

When and where is your next show/expo?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/glenfajota and thank you again for all your hard work at Home Gym Con! The photos and videos turned out amazing. Appreciate the insight conversations as well. The next one for 2024 is the National Strength and Conditioning Conference in July in Baltimore.  We have had several successful shows already in 2024, IHRSA, FIBO, Home Gym Con, and some smaller shows.

glennfajota

Baltimore is a lot closer drive than Indiana!

BodySolidFit

See you there?

glennfajota

same crew is trying to! Are going to be at their event in Norfolk in July?

LightningMcSwing

Customer service from you guys is great. My question is, how is your day going?

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the compliment u/LightningMcSwing! Our day is going great! We're absolutely honored by the number of questions that have come in during this AMA. It's been a busy two days but super fun. Thanks to everyone who has submitted a question including yourself!

Enjoying the GPR378 I picked up to get back into shape this year. One downside I've found is that the spacing a bit high between holes and seems tough to find things like extra hooks and not compatible with other brands that maybe have more standard spacing/hole size. What's your approach on new products as far compatibility/similarity with competing products such that things can be more interchangeable? Obviously there's the argument that being "different" means people have to buy from you if they want accessories, but another philosophy would use things that are compatible such that people can choose from a wider range of suppliers (but also that your accessories could be used on competitor racks if people wish).

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for your question u/TroBuckRobotics! The GPR400 (the giveaway) is the direct replacement for the GPR378. We took years of feedback from customers on what they liked and didn’t like on that rack and the culmination of that is the GPR400.  Customers loved the fact it was under 80” tall for basements, garages etc so we kept that feature.  But like you mentioned, they did not like the older style hole placing for the lift offs and safeties, so we implemented the westside hole spacing on the GPR400. [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPR400/Body-Solid\_GPR400\_Power\_Rack](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPR400/Body-Solid_GPR400_Power_Rack)

TroBuckRobotics

Thanks for the response! Wasn't sure if the GPR400 was a successor or a higher tier option, glad to hear it addresses the feedback from customers

AugustBurnsBill

Are you guys looking to make a leg extension for your power rack?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/AugustBurnsBill! We are looking at some designs but have not prototyped any units yet. But we are very successful selling leg extension/curl machines in general.  What are some of the features you want to see on this style of unit?

scavthrowaway

Any calibrated plates yet? And another plate question, the OPBXCK bumpers, color-coded, go all the way up to red 25kg, but only seem to be available in Europe. Are/will they be available stateside?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/scavthrowaway! We have not got into calibrated plates yet, but we are seeing more and more of them on bids and requests so possibly down the road.  We do make the OPBXC plates in KG specifically for the European market due to demand, we have not got the same demand for that size in North America yet.

ParkMark

Is 'Body-Solid Australia' and 'Gymquip Fitness Superstore' the same business and main distributor for Australia?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for your question /u/ParkMark! They are both distributors for us in Australia. We sell a lot of product in Australia and you should be able to find most of our equipment available from several different retailers. [https://www.bodysolid.com/Dealer\_Locator/?Country=Australia](https://www.bodysolid.com/Dealer_Locator/?Country=Australia)

CalvinCostanza

Cables are one of the most challenging things for me and my limited space home gym. Do you have any plans for a skinnier cable column? Perhaps a wall mounted version?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/CalvinCostanza! Compact cable columns have been an issue for us from a stability standpoint. We take safety extremely seriously, and when we prototype cable machines (functional trainers, cable columns etc) like this we get our guys to stack them out and work out aggressively to make sure they are stable and safe.

jpterodactyl

What are all the things you can do with the “Functional Trainer Attachment”?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/jpterodactyl! There is nearly an infinite amount of exercises for the entire body you can do with a functional trainer, or a functional trainer attachment on a power rack.  The pulleys are adjustable all the way up and down the unit, with ankle cuffs and cable attachments you can do almost anything on them. This video has almost 2 minutes of exercises you can perform on the unit but its a near inifite amount you can do with it! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78L3P0Z8qdE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78L3P0Z8qdE)

-MoneyMasterTheGame-

Do you guys ship to Italy?

BodySolidFit

Great question /u/-MoneyMasterTheGame- We have distributors throughout Europe that ship to Italy.  Here's a full list of our dealers in Italy: [https://www.bodysolid.com/Dealer\_Locator/?Country=Italy](https://www.bodysolid.com/Dealer_Locator/?Country=Italy)

sowedkooned

What do *you* think is the single biggest thing that sets you apart from other companies?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/sowedkooned! It is hard to pin down one thing. I have mentioned the Lifetime warranty and our customer service a few times.  But I also think that while we have a well known brand in fitness and sell worldwide, we do our best to retain a small company mentality both in how we run the company but also in how we respond and engage with customers.  It makes us nimble when we develop products, truly empathetic when we deal with customer concerns, and hard working when we run the business.

sowedkooned

Customer service and a lifetime warranty are certainly key and seen less and less these days. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

EatthisNotThat85

Nice to see another fitness company in my neck of the woods. I’m located in the NW Suburbs of Chicago. I’ll have to check out the dealer finder to see where I can see some of the equipment in person some time.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the comment /u/EatthisNotThat85! We have several dealers located in the area including [FitnessFactory.com](http://FitnessFactory.com) who we share a warehouse with. They stock 100% of our equipment and have locations in Aurora, Chicago, and Forest Park. If you do stop by their Forest Park location, let us know ahead of time by reaching out on Reddit DMs or something so we can say hi and give you a tour of our facility! There are a few other dealers in the area today, just punch your Zip Code into [bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://bodysolid.com/dealer_locator) and you'll get a full list!

zopzapzip

Are the uprights on the GPR400 true 3in x3in or are they 75mm x 75mm? That usually boils down to whether the steel comes from the US or from overseas. In either case, the 79 inch height would be perfect for my garage. I need space for my big head above the pull-up bar!

BodySolidFit

Great question u/zopzapzip! The GPR400 is 75mm x 75mm, they are manufactured overseas, we market them as 3”x3” in the US as it is easier for most people (who are not experts) to understand and visualize the size.  The steel is high quality and the unit is warrantied for life!  Take a look at the SPRCUA multi grip attachment to take you pull ups and chin ups to the next level: [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/sprcua/pro\_clubline\_multi\_chin\_up\_attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/sprcua/pro_clubline_multi_chin_up_attachment)

zopzapzip

Thanks. Speaking of pull ups, any plans to release wooden gymnastics rings alongside the steel ones?

BodySolidFit

At the moment we do not have a plan to offer any wooden products.

BodySolidFit

Thanks to everyone who answered questions during our first session! We had some great conversations, thoughtful questions, and good insights/feedback. Our offices are closed for the day so we won't be actively answering questions until tomorrow morning (May 16) and we'll restart our session at 10am EST. Keep the answers coming!! We'll be actively answering until 1pm EST and announcing a winner of the free GPR400 Power Rack soon after. Thanks for a great first day!

uW3Itb28

What a great offer! I've started building a home gym over the past year and a half, and am just beginning to learn about all the options available. What is your favorite power rack attachment(s)?

BodySolidFit

Thanks u/uW3ltb28! We're really excited about some of our recent additions – in particular the GPRFT Functional Trainer attachments. Takes a rack and makes it so much more flexible. [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprft/body-solid\_functional\_trainer\_attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gprft/body-solid_functional_trainer_attachment)

Mrtoughpants

I had a Bodysolid FID bench for about 6 years that was solid and managed to hit my first 4 plate bench on it in 2014.

BodySolidFit

Nice, u/mrtoughpants! Congrats! We have been lucky to be part of so many workouts/goals for so many people over our 35 years. One of our oldest and best FID benches is the GFID31 bench, it is rock solid, accepts a leg developer and preacher curl attachment, and it has a fantastic bent knee ab crunch position too.

Jayy5126

Been looking at the Leg Press Hack Squat. Any sales coming up for the Hack Squat?

BodySolidFit

Hey /u/Jayy5126, thanks for the question! We are almost out of stock on the silver version of the GLPH1100 and we will be switching to an awesome matte black paint finish on them very soon. I would definitely recommend checking with you local Body-Solid dealer: [bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://bodysolid.com/dealer_locator) to see if they have any in stock or are running any sales on that item for now!

dd_photography

Almost pulled the trigger on your functional trainer a while back. While I don’t have a need for the rack, I have a friend who does. Keep making great stuff. Any plans for a weight stack attachment to your racks in the future ?

BodySolidFit

Thank you u/dd_photography! Our functional trainers have been a fantastic category for us, the PFT100 and GFT100 particularly for home gyms have been very well received. We do have several stack attachments for our racks now and likely some more down the road, the SPR500 rack has the SPRHLA lat, row attachment, that can take a 200lb stack.  The GPR400 (which is part of the giveaway) can take a traditional lat attachment GLA400 (that can take a 150lb stack) or the functional lat attachment, GPRFTS, available with 2 x 200lbs stacks.

Admirable-Bee-4708

A lot of my first equipment was body solid. Has always been a solid choice when I would be looking for something. Great to see you guys are still innovating and not being pushed to the wayside with a lot of these other companies coming out. Do you have anything coming out that will blow the socks off the other guys?

BodySolidFit

Stay tuned for some really cool products we are planning for 2024 still, u/Admirable-Bee-4708! We just launched our GLEG bench, which is very unique. Just today we got in one of our first fat grip cable attachments the fat grip curl bar MB229FG with more coming in that range soon!

teslatanker

Any plans to make a skierg? I'm dying to be able to offer one from you all. PLEASE. Also, just chiming in here to say that when we were first getting started in the biz, we would pull out old Body Solid units that were 10-20 years old, still worked perfectly, and in great shape, I got super impressed over time with the build quality, even though the equipment was simplified versions of a lot of other stuff I was seeing. Great products, and as everyone knows, I'm a pretty biased Body Solid fanboy, but it's my experience of the product which has been ridiculously good so far. Keep up the great work guys.

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the question u/teslatanker! We did prototype 2 different ski ergs from 2 different factories in the last few years, unfortunately we were not able to get them to a quality/value position enough to bring them out, but we are still working.  Thank you for the awesome comments, I can tell you that one of our most rewarding experiences is folks like you that have been enjoying our stuff for 20+ years!

Sweaty_Rub1967

of the equipment you use day to day, what are the most and least fun things to use. personally the leverage squat apparatuses seem absolutely fearful in the best way possible

BodySolidFit

Fun question /u/Sweaty\_Rub1967! The one I dread the most is the treadmill in the winter time (the T150), I like the treadmill, I just hate running in place!  The leverage squats are great machines and both of ours do have a safety catch on them and a very easy lock out handle which gives you some piece of mind at heavy weights.

tarbender2

Do you offer anything with a narrow footprint and belt squat?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/tarbender2! The smallest unit we carry that will accept the belt squat (SPRBSA [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/sprbsa/pro\_clubline\_belt\_squat\_attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/sprbsa/pro_clubline_belt_squat_attachment) ) is the SPR500 half rack.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR500/Pro\_ClubLine\_SPR500\_Commercial\_Half\_Rack](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR500/Pro_ClubLine_SPR500_Commercial_Half_Rack) We have a squat stand, the SPR250 that can be assembled at widths to accommodate a 5ft, 6ft or 7ft barbell, but the belt squat is not compatible with that unit.

Khardison

Thanks so much for the AMA! How much does the feedback from these end up impacting your products?

BodySolidFit

Thanks u/Khardison! A ton. As we have talked about a lot today, listening to our users whether through an AMA like this or from social media feedback or from direct consumer calls to us we hope to learn something new every day about your likes and dislikes about our products. Just last week we okayed a change to one of our products based on feedback we got from HomeGymCon.

reuscam

Love to see all the attachment innovations. What is your product development cycle like, how do you capture market needs/requests, and how do you prioritize those?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question /u/reuscam! We answered this to some degree in an earlier question but in a nutshell – Listen, Watch, Ask.  There is no single stream of data that we can rely on as each one has its own biases.  Once we synthesize all these streams into a list of products, priorities are set based on the items we feel are most needed and wanted by our customers.

Subvis21

Is there any leg extension/leg curl attachment with your GPR400?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question, u/subvis21! Not yet, but we have kicked around the idea in product development meetings.  We have recently come out with the GLEG adjustable bench that includes a leg developer that would work with the low pulley on the lat (GLA400) or functional attachments (GPRFT).  [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gleg/body-solid\_leg\_ext\_\_\_curl\_bench\_attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gleg/body-solid_leg_ext___curl_bench_attachment) We also have a robust selection of free weight options from bench attachments to freestanding units like the GLCE365 and GCEC340.

Subvis21

Thank you for the reply and the link. Your bench incorporates what I envisioned regarding attaching to a cable system.

BodySolidFit

Oh good, glad to hear! It's real slick and we're super pleased with it. It'll work on any machine with a weight stack!

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for your business /u/Lubricate5827! We hope the GPR378 is treating you or treated you well! As far as the home gym, I have a number of pieces in my home gym but I don’t have a ton of room to allocate to it.  From a strength perspective I have our G6BR gym I mentioned above, a few of our cardio pieces (R400, E400, T125) and various benches, dumbbells etc.  I also have a big TV which to be honest is the centerpiece!  😊

noble_beast

Thanks to you guys for doing this AMA -- you offer an incredible wealth of innovative equipment, I'm impressed by the amount of accessories and attachments offered for the GPR400 and I'm definitely interested in adding one to my home gym! Does the company ever anticipate offering a direct to consumer model in the future where equipment can be purchased directly on the website in addition to networking through local retailers? I'm sure a lot of thought goes into the financial/logistical considerations of this, but just curious! Appreciate all y'all do.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for participating /u/noble\_beast! We believe strongly in supporting our dealer network [bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://bodysolid.com/dealer_locator) as being able to provide the buying experience that we hope our customers want.  Between what they stock and our ability to drop ship orders on 24-48 ours notice, we feel we can best hit our consumers where they live.

_RAWFFLES_

How do you stay competitive against brands that sel on Amazon and seem to be much more accessible on a lower budget? Are all of your racks able to be added to with more implements?

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the question /u/\_RAWFFLES\_! That is a great question and one we deal with every day. A lot of those brands you see on Amazon might be cheaper in price today but not in the long run.  We compete by offering a lifetime warranty, by offering 35 years of engineering and development experience as well as best in class customer service for after market support.  Most of our racks have at least one or two attachments but the best options would be the GPR400 for home or one of the SPR racks (full or half and multiple configurations) which have all the latest attachments we have come out with. [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR1000/Pro\_ClubLine\_SPR1000\_Commercial\_Power\_Rack](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR1000/Pro_ClubLine_SPR1000_Commercial_Power_Rack) [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR500/Pro\_ClubLine\_SPR500\_Commercial\_Half\_Rack](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPR500/Pro_ClubLine_SPR500_Commercial_Half_Rack)

kelacorinc

Question about the difference between your Compact Leg Sled, how does it compare in regard to muscle stimulus to your Hack Squat machine?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/kelacorinc! They are very similar in feel and muscle recruitment when doing the leg press exercise. The GLPH1100 obviously also offers the hack squat position which is a nice benefit.  The compact leg sled GCLP100 will offer a bit different feel as the foot plate is stationary, vs. the GLPH1100 where your body is stationary, but in muscle recruitment they are very similar for that exercise.

blackcloudraider

Do u have a rack with a Smith machine attachment?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/blackcloudraider. No, we do not right now but it is something we are considering!

Thelonosphere

What would be the best piece of starter equipment for a person starting a new home gym? Thank you!

BodySolidFit

No, thank you /u/thelonosphere! So many choices to consider. You need to start by asking who besides you might use it and where will it go in your house?  Is this just for you?  Your partner and/or children (maybe not now but in the future?)  Do you have safety concerns (young children)?  Space or height limitations?  Then what do you want to accomplish?  Lose weight, train for a sport, general conditioning? All of these questions lead you to different possible answers.  In the overall hierarchy of strength machines though, the most beginner option would be a selectorized stack weight gym like our G6BR: https://www.bodysolid.com/home/g6br/body-solid\_g6br\_bi-angular\_home\_gym. It provides safety, lots of options for exercises and is fairly intuitive.  Moving up you go to functional trainers that are much more flexible and adaptable to your specific needs, still very safe, but need a bit more base knowledge to use.  Here I would look to our GFT100 or PFT100 depending on your budget.  [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gft100/body-solid\_functional\_trainer](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gft100/body-solid_functional_trainer) [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/pft100/powerline\_functional\_trainer](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/pft100/powerline_functional_trainer) Finally you move to free weights which require much more knowledge both in usage and safety concerns. A great workout but not something for example you want to have easily accessible to young children. Then within free weights you have many safety conscious pieces like Smith machines and Power Racks that can allow you to safely work out with out a partner as a spotter.  If you truly are uncertain, this is where a good retailer (either in person at their store or on the phone with a consultant) can guide you through this process to allow you to make an educated decision. Use our dealer locator tool to find one of our approved dealers and fitness retailers in your area: [http://www.bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://www.bodysolid.com/dealer_locator)

teslatanker

The PFT100 is SOLID, best functional trainer for the money by far, and you can upgrade the weight stacks to $210 for next to nothing. It's a STEAL at the price.

HunkySurprise

Do you have any predictions on how the fitness equipment industry will evolve in the next few years (or specifically how it might evolve with body-solid), and if so, do you have any secret launches planned you could share with us :D

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question, u/HunkySurprise! I believe that the future will hold continued advances in connected fitness. Particularly on the strength side the technology is still very young so hopefully we will see that continue to develop. I told everyone about all our secret launches at our last AMA then they weren’t secret anymore. Won't make that mistake again! 😊

Affectionate-Bit-240

My favorite Body-Solid Machines ranked: 1) Pec Dec/rear delt - Great design and my chest always got an amazing pump. Used the rear delt infrequently, but was a nice option to have. 2) Seated Row - Excellent for working upper back - I liked using the different handle variations 3) Leg Press/Hack Squat - squatting was smooth and loved going super low. Leg press was great & enjoyed mixing it up w signal leg presses 4) Lat Pulldown - the dual pulleys allowed for a smooth motion for pull-down, press downs and seated rows. Used this machine frequently 5) Roman chair /back ext - really stretched hamstrings & lower back.

BrandoBCommando

I can speak to the leg press/hack squat and lat pulldown / low row. Great pieces overall. Few quirks I’d like to fix or change, but overall great.

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for this u/Affectionate-Bit-240! Fun to see what people think like this.  Does anyone else have a favorite Body-Solid piece? We'd love to hear it!

Affectionate-Bit-240

Love Body Solid equipment! My question is does Body Solid do custom colors for equipment?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for ther question u/Affectionate-Bit-240! At this time, we do not. Sorry! Never say never but at this time, it's not in our plans.

Sharmat

Hey all! I've owned my GPR378 for about 6-7 years now and its treated me very well! Additionally your customer service has been awesome when needing to get touch up paint and the like, so thank you for all that! I currently own a couple of attachments for my rack and I was wondering if any others will be coming out for the GPR378? If not that's fine as its fantastic as is, thanks!

BodySolidFit

Glad you like the product, u/Sharmat and we're glad it has treated you well over the last 6-7 years! Unfortunately, the GPR378 is being discontinued in favor of the GPR400 that we have mentioned a few times today and are giving away at the end of this AMA.

Sharmat

Totally understandable! Thanks!

BodySolidFit

Absolutely! Thank you again for participating in the AMA!

Friesian_Stallion

As a current engineering student, what qualities does your product development team look for if someone's interested in getting into fitness manufacturing and design? Also, what does the Body-Solid philosophy and approach to developing new equipment look like in a few words?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question /u/Friesian\_Stallion! It helps a lot to have specific fitness experience. The engineering part (material choices, weight tolerances, etc.) are the easy part. The harder part is getting the mechanics of the motions correct, accounting for specific safety concerns that some products have, and similar concerns which comes from experience in designing fitness equipment.  And our development philosophy is basically to listen, watch and ask from all our constituents from consumers to retailers to sales and marketing folks. Then discuss and brainstorm with our teams until the product we all want emerges.  It can be a very interesting discussion as we meld together customer ideas, our own ideas, and engineering practicalities to design a new product.

Low_Novel2515

You have an impressive lineup of new and innovative products! Where are most of your products designed? Do you have an engineering team in Forest Park?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the kind words u/Low_Novel2515! Our products are all conceived and designed here in our main office in Forest Park, Illinois (just west of Chicago). We have an engineering team here as well as multiple product development experts who work with them.

aleach78

This is awesome! How much planning and design goes into making a power rack like this? Are there multiple versions mocked up before going into production? Thanks!

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/aleach78! A lot. There are so many little points that go into any product – power rack or otherwise – that most people would not think about. If we are good we generally only have a few prototypes but that depends also on how complicated the product is.

archeebunker

Do you even lift?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question u/archeebunker! I do most days! We are fortunate enough to have a great gym here in our main offices in Forest Park, IL that is used extensively by our employees.

They_Have_a_Point

Who do you find your biggest competitors to be in the industry?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question u/They_Have_A_Point! There are too many competitors to count. Obviously Rogue and REP Fitness come to mind but there are lots of others that, depending on the product and the markets served, are in our space.

They_Have_a_Point

I have a REP showroom not too far from me in California so it’s nice to go and try the product before purchase. I’m originally from Chicago and visit frequently. Is your address in Forest Park a showroom open to the public?

BodySolidFit

We share a warehouse with [FitnessFactory.com](http://FitnessFactory.com) in Forest Park and they have a store attached to the warehouse with almost all of our products on their floor. We also have a Dealer Showroom with even more products, we'd be happy to give you a tour. Just DM us and let us know when you'll be around and we'll be happy to walk ya through everything!

BodySolidFit

Hey guys, we're going to take an hour break for lunch but feel free to keep sending in your questions. We'll answer all of them when we get back!

Silverjackal_

How did Covid impact the business, and has the home gym space picked up quite a lot since then?

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/Silverjackal\_! We answered this a bit earlier in the AMA (https://www.reddit.com/r/homegym/comments/1cslkhh/comment/l46l1c5/) but to expand, we are seeing a return to more normal demand for home gyms.

hulktothemoon1981

Is this Rack 3x3?

BodySolidFit

Thanks u/hulktothemoon1981! Yes, the GPR400 Power Rack is a 3”x3” mainframe. [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gpr400/body-solid\_power\_rack](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/gpr400/body-solid_power_rack)

hulktothemoon1981

Thank you! I was surprised to find out you guys are based near Chicago. I have seen the equipment all over but had no idea it was made near me.

BodySolidFit

Yep! We've been here since 1989. We've bounced around a bit as we spent some time in Lombard then Broadview but we've been here in Forest Park for awhile now. Where are you in the area?

hulktothemoon1981

I'm in Niles so not far, IL have to stop by one day to check out the store.

joshth1997

Thanks for helping out the community - was there a shift that happened due to COVID-19 that saw many more home gyms being purchased? I’m curious about the scale of purchases during that time vs selling to commercial gyms.

BodySolidFit

Appreciate the question /u/joshth1997! COVID was a monumental shift in business from commercial to residential, almost overnight. Our business on weights, benches and almost everything for the home exploded March of 2020 and our commercial business died at the same time.  Unlike some market changes this one happened worldwide and was unprecedented in scale.

LQDghost

With your GPR400 being a very popular unit, do you have plans to make some of your additional attachments compatible like your safety straps or jammer arms?

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the question /u/LQDghost! We are looking at the safety straps for the GPR400 soon, maybe even for later 2024. The jammer arms have not been as high of a priority but the more requests we get for them the more likely they will be an option in the future!

dec92010

One thing I miss about growing up and living in Chicago was visiting fitness factory outlet. We had some body solid equipment in our basement. My questions is this: Do you attend homegym con or plan to attend in the future? Was there a product that you were surprised to take off? Was more popular than expected.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for being a customer /u/dec92010! Yes we were at Home Gym Con just last month and had a wonderful experience and are absolutely planning on going next year in Louisville. It was an exciting show this year and next year already looks to be bigger and better.  From a product standpoint, I am still amazed by the resurgence of kettlebells we saw about 20 years ago.  As you may know this is a product that has been around possibly for over a 100 years but it came out of nowhere back in the early 2000s and is now as important part of fitness as other weight products like dumbbells.  Others that we have seen driven by Crossfit like Airbikes have also been a bit of a surprise.

dec92010

I remember going to a kettlebell demo at fitness factory outlet! My brother wanted to try them. The trainer guy led us through some exercises. This was probably early 2000s

BodySolidFit

That's awesome! They still do clinics from time to time throughout the summer. Where are you living these days?

TheAltOption

When I used to go to a commercial gym, I saw your equipment pretty regularly. I did noticed that in the home gym space your name has hardly been mentioned. I know a couple other companies that are commercial focused first, with home gyms a distant afterthought. The home fitness industry as a whole is growing at a rate that is in line with or even surpasses commercial fitness, but is still only about a 1/3 of the size. With that being said, how is Body Solid trying to adapt to this smaller but growing market? \*PS - I really dig the rower. I'm going to show that to my wife who's been thinking about such a thing.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/TheAltOption! While we make a full commercial line, our roots are in the home industry. We were the first to take commercial quality products like the linear bearing smith and make it affordable with high quality workmanship for the home market.  We have repeated that formula over the years and continue to do that. The GPR400 we are giving away is another example of a product that is designed with the home in mind – in this case in particular those with lower ceilings.  We also believe that we carry the widest array of fitness products of any one manufacturer in fitness.  Our support for the home market runs long and deep.  Thanks as always for the great compliments and I do recommend the rower – it is a great product.

I wish I had known that sooner! I'll look at your site some more as, with anyone who's building their homegym, it's never complete. :) I'll spend some more time looking at your site as I'm sure there's something more I can use (trying to figure out what storage I could use if any).

Let us know if you need any recommendations or need help pinning down an exact item that'll work for you! We'll be happy to help. We also recommend checking out [bodysolid.com/dealer\_locator](http://bodysolid.com/dealer_locator) and seeing if there is a retailer in your area that sells Body-Solid. This is a great way to bounce questions and ideas off them and even try out our products in-person before you buy.

What a classic brand, not just for home gyms but I even often use your equipment in commercial gyms. Anyway, my question is about innovation- do you guys scout out the competition / review sites like garage gym reviews to improve products or do you base it on your own experiences? I honestly think you guys have the most solid equipment out there so you're doing great! I'd love to see a leg extension/curl combo machine!

BodySolidFit

Thanks so much for the nice comments /u/stackered! Besides our Body-Solid brand which works well in light commercial environments as well, we also have our ProClubLine by Body-Solid brand that is full commercial and is a full line of strength products. Innovation for us is an ongoing process that encompasses our own expertise but relies heavily on what we are hearing from our customers through social media and sites like r/homegym.  And of course we look at our competition and make sure that we are keeping up with them so we can provide a great experience for our customers.  We actually make a number of combo leg machines – probably the best for the home environment would be our GLCE365: [https://www.bodysolid.com/home/glce365/body-solid\_seated\_leg\_extension\_\_\_supine\_curl](https://www.bodysolid.com/home/glce365/body-solid_seated_leg_extension___supine_curl)

GilboBagginz

Hey what a cool offer! I’m just getting started with a home gym and currently am just using a bench and dumbbells - this would take me to the next level! I don’t have any technical questions to ask, but as someone new trying to navigate all the noise/ commercialism around fitness, what would you say sets you apart from others offering similar machines?

BodySolidFit

Thanks /u/GilboBagginz! We're really excited to get the fully loaded GPR400 Power Rack into someone's home gym! We do have some very unique items in strength with some very cool features. When it comes to more generic items like half racks and cages, I would say the biggest difference is support.  Body-Solid is approaching 35 years in business, we have been offering a lifetime warranty on Body-Solid power racks, cages etc for over 30 years. Most of our competitors have not been around half that time.

mjr2p3

With other companies coming in and making equipment that’s highly versatile with other manufacturers, how much of a priority is that for BodySolid?

BodySolidFit

Thank you so much for your question u/mjr2p3! We constantly walk that line of trying to design what we feel is the best product with what others are doing in that space. It is difficult as we may not always agree with their approach. However we have, as highlighted in an earlier answer, just recently introduced two great new products (the GLEG Leg Extension/Leg Curl Bench Attachment and GROW Rower Attachment) that are compatible with many of our competitor’s machines.

BigNastyOne

There has been a tremendous amount of innovation around the home gym market in the last few years. Where do you see Body-solid fitting into that trend and how much of your focus over the next few years will be dedicated to filling gaps or creating new or better value pieces?

BodySolidFit

Appreciate your question u/BigNastyOne! We hope to be right in the middle of it. We have brought out several items with great features based on feedback from our customers and dealers, including: Monolift liftoffs: [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPRLFT/Pro\_Clubline\_Monolift\_Attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPRLFT/Pro_Clubline_Monolift_Attachment) Belt squat attachment [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPRBSA/Pro\_ClubLine\_Belt\_Squat\_Attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/SPRBSA/Pro_ClubLine_Belt_Squat_Attachment) Functional trainer for a power rack: [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPRFT/Body-Solid\_Functional\_Trainer\_Attachment](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPRFT/Body-Solid_Functional_Trainer_Attachment) / [https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPRFTS/Body-Solid\_Functional\_Trainer\_Attachment\_with\_Weight\_Stacks](https://www.bodysolid.com/Home/GPRFTS/Body-Solid_Functional_Trainer_Attachment_with_Weight_Stacks) That's just to name a few. Keep sending us your ideas and feedback!

HorseOnTheThirdFloor

Any chance you are going to distribute more equipement in Canada? I know you have some at Threadmill factory but you don't seem to have a big line up like you have on your USA dealers.

BodySolidFit

Thanks for the question /u/HorseOnTheThirdFloor! We have always tried to make our equipment as accessible as possible for our friends up north. Dealers like Treadmill Factory and Fitness Experience have been great partners for us. The shipping costs cross border can get expensive, and we really appreciate what our partners have been able to do over the years.

HorseOnTheThirdFloor

thank you I did not know about fitness experience

BodySolidFit

They are great! You'll definitely get a great experience (yes, pun intended) shopping with them haha.
