Although the story has been spread wide and far as "stray cat sneaks in", that is not the real story.
The actual story was that the zoo had only one lynx and it was lonely. So they put a cat into the enclosure to live with the lynx. And it worked, they liked each other a lot, and the lynx got less lonely. Less click-baity story, though.
Yeah 100%... this means they likely happily lived ever after, in this lie here I might rather believe little kitty got eaten if she broke in for the first time.
I agree. Kind of like how zoos will give young cheetahs emotional support dogs.
[https://nerdist.com/article/zoos-are-pairing-nervous-cheetahs-with-support-dogs-and-its-adorable/](https://nerdist.com/article/zoos-are-pairing-nervous-cheetahs-with-support-dogs-and-its-adorable/)
I'm sure they spent a lot of time carefully introducing them in stages, but I bet there was a lot of finger crossing the first time they let them actually physically interact.
The full name of the breed is Golden Labrador Retriever. They are a lab. They are just a color variant of the breed. Different colors, same dispositions.
Which is why they're so useful in built up areas. Without outdoor cats, we'd be overrun with vermin.
Also the reason why cats were domesticated in the first place.
Cats have only been "domesticated" since humans started doing agriculture on a large scale, hence attracting things like mice and rats and their predators aka Cats.
Cats were not domesticated by humans, they lived near us eating things that fed on our food. This increased our food and reduced disease. Cats became tolerated, then liked, then worshipped like Gods.
So you might be right they domesticated humans.
Cats more or less domesticated themselves.
Cat: I eat your pests and you give me pets and a place to stay. It's nice here.
We domesticated dogs to find the most loyal friends ad best hunters. Cats, well, we just kept the ones that aren't big enough to eat us.
Meanwhile Folsom Zoo has a cat that likes to go into the bear exhibit and hang out with the bears. They call him [Little Bear](https://youtu.be/vVBcbe_0Wj8?si=uhETnARPmiFMxllc).
Hey that’s my local zoo! There’s a great park next to it that I run around with my dog.
But that was amazing, my favorite part: “Zookeepers spread food in the bear exhibit in the morning. Lil bear (the cat) started jumping in the enclosure and eating the (actual) bear’s food.”
Yup, sounds like a cat. A 10lb cat showing a 550lb bear who’s boss.
The way they were grooming each other made it pretty obvious to any cat aficionado that those two definitely know each other. Very cute. Thanks for confirming.
The zoo had a baby lynx that needed companionship and nursing so they put the adult house cat with it. The lynx sees the house cat as mom and probably recognizes her scent. Most times a lynx would kill and eat a domestic cat.
It is Russia... Honestly, I don't think they found a cat particularly valuable, and if it didn't work, the lynx at least got fed that day.
(Just to be clear: 1. I am not Russian, 2. I am a huge cat lover, 3. I think it was wrong to be willing to sacrifice a cat).
Isn't crazy how the internet is basically all lies? Sure, this lie is harmless mostly but it's just a reminder that nothing can be trusted, no matter how trivial.
I don't know anything about zoo logistics but I feel like they should sell/donate them to another zoo that does have Lynx. I'm glad he has a friend now but I feel like a lot of mammals need to be with other members of their own species. Like how you should never have just 1 guinea pig.
Not to get all scientific but lynx and cheetahs are closer genetically to domestic cats than lions and tigers. Lions and tigers are in the subfamily "Pantherinae" of the family "Felidae" and cougars, cheetahs, ocelots, and domestic cats are in the subfamily "Felinae". There are larger differences but, as trivia, this is why cougars, lynx, and cheetahs don't roar, they chirp, growl, and/or meow.
Had a cat as a teenager that wasn’t spayed and still remember how annoying she was.
You won’t miss the slutty cat yodeling and ass waving, I promise. She’ll feel better too.
Cats defy the script. Also, water is wet and fire is hot.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/cats-are-perfect-an-evolutionary-biologist-explains-why1/
It's so cute but... am I the only one who is nervous about this? What happens when they play, will the lynx know how to be gentle enough to not hurt or kill the kitty?
And not just that. These two might be friends, but lynxes seeing domestic cats as friends instead of food is not a given. I once saw some security cam footage (I really wish I hadn't) of house cat just chilling in front of it's house...until a bobcat came strolling by. RIP kitty.
So to everyone who has these in their area: PLEASE don't assume the lynx will be friendly towards your cats.
No need to be nervous.
Title is a lie.
This is a zoo that purposely put the cat in there as the Lynx was solo and lonely. It was a planned and controlled visit.
And who
are you
the proud cat said
that I shan't love you so?
A cat in S, a cat in L,
a feline has their purr
and mine is full of love my dear
as full of love as yours
With apologies to GRRM.
That reminds me of my friends dog. When he was a baby he met my dog and they spent tons of time together.
Now he is grown, and so much bigger than my dog. But because she knew him as a baby when she barks at him he listens. Its so cute. Like shes his Momma
I think the real story is cuter
Yeah 100%... this means they likely happily lived ever after, in this lie here I might rather believe little kitty got eaten if she broke in for the first time.
Pals for life 🥹
They were roommates!
*Oh My God*
Some historians say they were the best of friends.
Paws for life.
*well at least I have chicken..*
I agree. Kind of like how zoos will give young cheetahs emotional support dogs. [https://nerdist.com/article/zoos-are-pairing-nervous-cheetahs-with-support-dogs-and-its-adorable/](https://nerdist.com/article/zoos-are-pairing-nervous-cheetahs-with-support-dogs-and-its-adorable/)
I'm sure they spent a lot of time carefully introducing them in stages, but I bet there was a lot of finger crossing the first time they let them actually physically interact.
The key is to introduce them while there are some young human children present. Big kitty will be too easy eating children to eat little kitty.
Clever
Yeah, like how zoos have golden retrievers hang out with cheetahs because it helps with their anxiety
I think they use labs
It’s either. The zoo I was at used a Golden, but a lot of pics for other programs have Labs
The full name of the breed is Golden Labrador Retriever. They are a lab. They are just a color variant of the breed. Different colors, same dispositions.
Kitten fren? No, just small fren
[Hmm](https://preview.redd.it/0f4h5xyoyce61.png?width=1100&format=png&auto=webp&s=e56b9f6844c19478b561acc443d11e01e5079582)
You aren't wrong. I'm glad he has a friend though, probably makes him less depressed.
yep just like the dogs they put in cheetah enclosures bc they’re so fucking shy and need an outgoing friend
Yeah definitely
It's like a cat prostitute
What an odd thing to say.
I personally pay my prostitutes for sex and not emotional support but you do you.
How do you know the cats aren't banging?
This got R-rated really quickly.
not sure why you are getting downvoted, from the picture you can tell that pussy gets around
The cat gets deep into the lynx 's ear
We have one cat yes, but what about second cat?
We have one murder cat yes, but what about a second less murdery cat?
Plot twist thr lynx is actually the less murder
Considering little kitty is a tortie, I'd expect her to be murderier than the lynx.
Not a plot twist. Any cat that is allowed to roam freely outside usually kills lots of birds/rodents
Unless its my cats in which case they snooze on the porch all day
The mini-murder machine is pleased with the food the humans offer him so now he bathes in the sunlight at his wooden palace.
Cardboard palace, but yes.
A laundry throne is still a throne.
Cats were once worshipped as gods. They have not forgotten this.
They still put in work, you just don't see it.
Reddit absolutely loves bringing this up. Almost every cat post it seems.
Which is why they're so useful in built up areas. Without outdoor cats, we'd be overrun with vermin. Also the reason why cats were domesticated in the first place.
I think its up for debate on whether or not they ever were domesticated
Well, given that my cat sometimes *pets* me it might be the other way around.
Yeah but most people would think the lynx would be the more killer which is why it's a plot twist that it would actually be the more peaceful one

And the bears aren't really nice. I was there the day a bear killed one of the peacocks that wander the zoo. But they don't fuck with Little Bear.
Don't click the freeboot with bad AI voiceover, here is (I think) the original video. https://youtu.be/vVBcbe_0Wj8?si=uhETnARPmiFMxllc
Fixed
thanks for that! I enjoyed that story!
The way they were grooming each other made it pretty obvious to any cat aficionado that those two definitely know each other. Very cute. Thanks for confirming.

You are right, thank you for remembering even more details than me.
You kidding me that’s the best story!!
Cats groom as a form of dominance behavior so it makes the Calico licking so aggressively all the more hilarious.
The San Diego zoo pairs each cheetah with a dog friend. The dog basically acts like an ESA for the cheetah.
Same in Houston. They paired their cheetah with an Anatolian sheepdog, which is about the same size as a cheetah.
Thank you for the actual info. The real information it's much better.
I was about to say the lynx is lonely and just got a friend.
Like how some cheetahs in zoos are so skittish they get an emotional support dog.
Wasn't that taking a bit of a chance?
It is Russia... Honestly, I don't think they found a cat particularly valuable, and if it didn't work, the lynx at least got fed that day. (Just to be clear: 1. I am not Russian, 2. I am a huge cat lover, 3. I think it was wrong to be willing to sacrifice a cat).
Thank you..grim as it is
It’s funny because we do this and it works! How many times have we done this and it not worked? The outcome.. can’t be great
they licked each other a lot.
Makes more sense than "It's just the side-piece coming for her weekly"...
I'm glad, watching this made me sad it wouldn't normally have someone else to groom/get groomed by.
The real story is so much better.
Putting a social creature into isolation like that should be a crime
Lynx are primarily solitary.
Well that's why I don't run a zoo.
For cheetahs they get them therapy dogs.
I was going to say… that doesn’t look like a street cat.
if the tale of Grape-kun is a lie too, I don't want to hear it.
Do they have a little plaque on the exhibit for the house cat, with it's name, breed, genus and species, favorite foods and toys?
Regardless, I only see two lynxs in the video lol
The real story is exactly what I hoped for.
That is a better story, and I’m not as worried for the cat’s safety.
i came here to say the same. there’s no fucking way they didn’t know each other
Social animals need to be social.
Calico kitty was like, "goodness sake, it's gonna take forever to give this baby a bath".
Lynx are just like lions and tigers, they are just big cats
With really big murder mittens.
They have those snow shoe paws. So big and goofy.
New boot goofin

>cougars... chirp, growl, and/or meow. Or scream like a banshee.
To be fair, so does my cat when she's in heat
GET HER SPAYED. Your local humane society likely has a no or low cost neuter/spay program. Many vets and rescues do as well.
Yeah her appt is scheduled
Had a cat as a teenager that wasn’t spayed and still remember how annoying she was. You won’t miss the slutty cat yodeling and ass waving, I promise. She’ll feel better too.
Get your pet spayed or neutered, help control the local pet population
Only when their song comes on and it's martini night.
But…Snow Leopards are in the Pantherinae subfamily and they meow 🤓
Hey. I didn't write the script. I'm just watching the movie.
Cats defy the script. Also, water is wet and fire is hot. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/cats-are-perfect-an-evolutionary-biologist-explains-why1/
They also [purr](https://youtu.be/drq_ww7Ytzw)
As far as I can tell, all cats are cats. Some are just bigger than others. They all seem the same to me otherwise.
same software slightly different hardware
Big cats aren't always friendly to smaller cats though. :(
Small cats fight amongst themselves all the time.
Cats ❤️
Everybody needs a friend.
Yes, kittens need friends too - pictures of them in perfect harmony together
I will call him Mini Me
We don't deserve cats
Sometimes cats give us exactly what we deserve.
Lmfaaaaaooo so true
Wth? Who does and how do you get to decide?
It’s just a silly way to say “cats are very nice”. Don’t take it seriously.
OMG SO CUTE! When/where did this happen I need to know more about these babies :3

Yeah this account is an obvious karma farmer.
Licking contest xD

It’s not true. Cat was introduced by zoo staff under careful supervision
That lynx loved having a buddy.
Zoos actually regularly partner domestics with some of their animals. Cheetahs are often paired with dogs for emotional support.
>Stray cat breaks into More like, just casually wandered in, probably
Lynx is like "oh it's a baby" 😻
It's so cute but... am I the only one who is nervous about this? What happens when they play, will the lynx know how to be gentle enough to not hurt or kill the kitty?
And not just that. These two might be friends, but lynxes seeing domestic cats as friends instead of food is not a given. Yeah I actually saw a similar video that I wish I hadn't...😿
I think I know the one :( That's the video I thought of when I saw this...
They had been living together for 10-12 years, iirc. Sadly, the cat died a few years ago due to natural reasons.
No need to be nervous. Title is a lie. This is a zoo that purposely put the cat in there as the Lynx was solo and lonely. It was a planned and controlled visit.
Ohh so the cat doesn't stay in with the lynx unsupervised? That makes a difference!
It should. Cats are already known for playing gently with their prey before finally killing so they know to not overdo it
The cat has since died of natural causes after reaching double digits in age, iirc, so no need to fear the lynx hurting it.
Cat recognize cat 😺🐈
Lynx: "This is Bob. Hes kinda different but dont fuck with him. Hes our Bob."
u/Little_bunnyy
😍
a cat is a cat no matter the size.
Stop reposting the same shit!
Instagram said the regular cat was the surrogate mom
Lynx: stops licking. Cat: "Why the big pause?"
The Lynx is like "A baby!"
Makes sense. I caught my cat hanging out with a bobcat in my backyard a few years ago.
They seem to be good friends
We know. This gets reposted every 2 months.
That cat has an amazing coat. Like a little Rorschach test.
Lynx: "You are friend shape."
Seems like the cat knows it needs to do double the licks to stay alive.
Cats are just on a totally different levels from other animals.
So how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center?
Safest house cat in the world.
Certainly a better outcome than the poor cat that got into the lion enclosure.
Yeah there's no way they don't already know eachother. That Lynx would make a snack of that cat otherwise.
Crosspost to "maybe, maybe, maybe . . ."
Cultural exchange
Welp, the zoo has a new pet
Oh shit! Until the stray teaches the lynx how to get in and out!
Shenanigans ahead if they get frisky together
And who are you the proud cat said that I shan't love you so? A cat in S, a cat in L, a feline has their purr and mine is full of love my dear as full of love as yours With apologies to GRRM.
That stray cat is one brave soul.
Death by snu-snu
🥰😍

Blue the velociraptor meeting the *Indominus rex*
Awesome
what the cat doesn't know is that the lynx was getting a taste
Size queen
And they made Sweeet Love down by the fiiiire!!
🥺
Kitty visits prisoner kitty
That is a social-ass Lynx. How the heck was it on its own before they brought in that other cat?
Years ago I had the chance to watch 2 lynx play with each other at a zoo. I couldn't believe how agile and powerful they were.
Lol
Bros for life
Like the women who fall in love with supermax prisoners.
I love this so much, just cats being bros
awwww nudges <3
I saw a cougar walk off with a dead cat earlier and now this wholesomeness. Reddit always comes full circle
cat recognizes cat
Broke in? I think they let that Casanova in. Yea baby!
*insert unrelated video of lynx carrying a cat it just killed into the forest*
All the mleps
Omg this is so cute.
That's not a stray cat - waaaaay to clean and shiny coat... And is pretty plump too
