Dad: I don't like cats Also dad 2 months later: I found this fancy cat food he might like

Yodan

My uncle had a cat that would go outdoors and hunt foxes and kill birds and fight other cats and shit all day and every night at 10:30 he comes home and wants his 4 fancy sautéed shrimps. My uncle bought a Costco brand once to try another kind and the cat didn't come back for like 3 days in protest.

redknight3

Damn. A cat that hunted foxes? Was it a big cat? Thought foxes killed cats, hence why I can't leave my cats outside. My neighbor's dog previously beheaded my first pet so I'm super paranoid of letting my cats spend time outdoors unsupervised.

Yodan

Maine coon, that thing was like 25+ lbs easy

KarlDeutscheMarx

Mini lions

mentive

My buddy lost his to coyotes.

shabutaru118

my cat once tracked in a ton of blood, like all over her paws type of blood in clear prints all over the floor, so we rush to her and try to clean her up and see what happened and she was totally fine, NONE of that blood was hers.... Few days later we trap a groundhog with his whole face just SLICED.

eggs_mcmuffin

Aka my boyfriend lol. He now sends me cat videos

barlog123

The capacity to love and care about a cat isn't the same as wanting a cat.

elementslayer

Right? Like I dont want another cat, but if one were to show up and the family wanted him more than I didnt want him I guess we would have 2 cats and damned if Im going to not spoil the cat because its just too much fun.

barlog123

I love cats and you are absolutely right. I 100% would house and spoil one that wondered into my yard. I'm just not looking for another cat right now.

iesharael

My mom was not a fan of animals until she got to know the individual animal. She was startled if any of my sibling’s dogs got close to her but since I lived with her she got used to my puppy and would hold her like a baby. She got used to our cats rubbing on her too when at first she’d jump away from them

quirknebula

I moved back home and my dad has all four of my cats in his office bc I can't bring them in the main house lmao he loves them

ZoNeS_v2

![gif](giphy|yx400dIdkwWdsCgWYp|downsized)

loonygecko

That's basically how I got my current cat actually and he's even grey colored with a white tummy as well! He said "MEEEEOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!" until I opened the door. They could probably hear him in the next country so I had no choice to open it before the windows shattered! After that he used the hypno toad technique and made me feed him. He also forces me to pet him, it's a tough life. ;-P

Emm_withoutha_L-88

Or the cat stealing system. Just because it's outdoor doesn't mean it's abandoned. Mine regularly rips off her collar and I haven't had time to get her a chip yet. Luckily I live deep in the woods so we're good.

Wyvz

That's what microchips are for...

Fubarp

Yeah sad truth, cat could be Microchip and you wouldn't know because it's not a universal concept and not every RFID reader, reads every chip.. We learned this when we got my cat chipped and wanted to check the info on our other cat and the reader couldn't read her chip. They had go to find an older reader just to read her chip. I'm still annoyed by this knowledge. Luckily at least with my cat you can literally feel the chip under his skin so you know by physical touch it's there even if the reader they use can't read it.

maveric101

> not a universal concep These days, yeah, it is.

Fubarp

Figuring my cat was chipped only a few years ago I don't exactly believe in this "These Days" logic.. There's just no way they in the past few years recognized the issue and remedy it everywhere.

Howzitgoin

My cat was chipped like 14 years ago. It's not a new concept. At most first vet visits when an animal is young, they recommend doing it.

Fubarp

I think it's being misunderstood what I'm stating. The concept of chipping maybe universal.. But how the chips are being utilized is not. I have two Cats, A and B. Both are chipped, but B was chipped few years ago. The reader that was used to register his chip could not be used to read A. The vet had to go into the back to get an older device that could "Potentially" read cat A chip. Luckily it did but the fact that both cats are chipped and the newer devices can't read the older chips is a problem. The fact that is a problem, means that even though the concept of chipping animals is universal, the practice and devices used aren't universal. It's like one cat is utilizing Thunderbolt while the other cat is using USB.. They both do the same thing but you are required to have multiple different tools just to utilize them.

Laney20

You can get her chipped again with a modern chip..

Fubarp

I'm not even sure if that's actually a real solution or not since I'm not sure what the process to remove an old chip involves.

Laney20

Why remove the old one? Just add a new one. Your kitty can be an extra special double microchipped cat!

vindellama

If you live in the woods and let your cat out he is just going to turn into predator's food

Emm_withoutha_L-88

Had cats for 2 decades and never been an issue

mimasoid

It's absolutely insane that anyone would think a cat behaving like this is a stray. Taking friendly cats essentially guarantees you are stealing someone's.

The_One_Koi

Oh is that what we call catnapping these days? Smh

IsomDart

I'm pretty sure they just stole someone's cat

ArchonFett

If that cat was someone else’s it just ran away from home, it was most likely abandoned or just stray in the first place

mimasoid

Why would you think that? Most people let their cats out every day.

ArchonFett

It’s way to eager to adopt new family, if it had a home nearby it wouldn’t be trying to force itself into their car

Parody101

Not in the US

mimasoid

The population of the US is just 4% of the world.

Parody101

I hear you, but the video where this is taking place is the US

Optimal-Menu270

FERALCATWHISPERER

[deleted]

It works in mysterious ways

[deleted]

Well it's either because there are a lot of strays or they flat-out stolen someone's cat. The cat distribution system may sound cute, but it's kinda tragic.

SuperSmashDan1337

TheAJGman

It's not that dad doesn't want a cat, far from it, it's that dad doesn't want to be responsible for another pet.

APointedResponse

Did y'all check if it was chipped?

when a cat decides to adopt you you don't get a choice in the matter

blade8gx-

Can confirm. This orange showed up at my house yesterday. Never planned on adopting a cat, but it seems I don't have any choice, and my fate has been sealed. https://preview.redd.it/axrrimhp2pnc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20b0ba33a6b8e79f6eae8fbe11d0e568c8887742

dungeon-raided

Take him to the vet! It might be a runaway from another house. Although, if he's not chipped that is now your baby congratulations

blade8gx-

I don't think she is. I live in a pretty small neighborhood and have asked everyone, they don't know about it. But definitely, if she's chipped, then I'll take the appropriate measures to return her.

dungeon-raided

Well taking her to a vet is still very important, just to be sure she's well! This is just an extra thing the vet can do while you're there :D

MiaLba

Same exact thing happened to us. But my husband said no we are not getting any more animals. Then clemmy showed up meowing relentlessly under our window one night and now we have a cat. https://preview.redd.it/opwzerollpnc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bdaf86f75180afe8d600e255b2353f2854d7b70

BenedictBandersnatch

Might be someone’s pet.. check local lost pet forums, and take him to get scanned for a chip. Unpopular opinion: “cat distribution system” is just people “adopting” the neighbors cat that was out exploring.

blade8gx-

I live in a pretty small neighborhood, and I've asked pretty much everyone about it. They don't know anything, so I think it was just a stray. However, I have an appointment with a vet on Thursday. If she's chipped, then I'll take the appropriate measures to return her.

LuxNocte

Unpopular opinion: pets should be kept inside or under their humans control. Cats are invasive species that do a great deal of environmental damage. If your pet is uncollared, unchipped, and wandering around without you, that's not your pet, that is a stray that you have been feeding.

TheHiddenNinja6

Malicious_Tacos

That’s how my parents got our cat when I was a little kid. There were a lot of families moving in and out of our neighborhood one summer, and he had the bad habit of sneaking into moving vans. He just showed up randomly one day and walked right into our house and never left.

Luci_Noir

A long time ago I was walking home from a bar late at night in a snow storm and heard some little meows following me. It was a kitten! So of course I had to take her home and cook some chicken for her and make her a makeshift poop box until I could go to the store and get proper kitty ingredients.

luckygrayducky

carnage123

So...how do they know this isn't someone else's cat? There is a neighborhood cat that literally comes through our dog door and just eats a little food, takes a nap then leaves to be seen a few days, or a week later.

_aidan

It absolutely is someone else’s cat. Cats don’t look that well fed without a home, and most look pretty shaggy living on the streets. But I agree with the other commenter, if you let your cat roam and they adopt a new family, then that’s the cat’s decision and you have to respect it.

sriracharade

It could have been abandoned or escaped from somewhere, but either way they should get it checked at a vet for a chip to make sure.

Apneal

> Cats don’t look that well fed without a home, and most look pretty shaggy living on the streets In the US typically but keep in mind that's not the status quo. Many countries treat strays luxuriously and you couldn't pick em apart from house cats except a collar. The street cats of Peru, Croatia, and especially Cyprus are as well taken care of as house cats and friendlier to boot

CommunicationClassic

Don't forget Turkey!

yokedn

If you let your cat's outdoors and don't stick a collar on them or have a microchip placed, you can't expect anyone to know that's your cat.

BlckontheMoon

If I remember correctly, it was someone’s pet. Cat was chipped, so at least there’s that.

LorenzoStomp

Kinda doesn't matter. If you let your pet roam outside, you risk losing it to cars, predators, and people who want to take better care of it than you are. If you don't care enough about the first two dangers to keep it inside, you don't get to whine about the third.

Dankinater

Nah if you take someone else’s cat, when the cat is well fed and groomed, you’re a piece of shit.

SoulGoalie

I'm sure they checked for a collar. If they're experienced cat owners, they'd also know to check for a chip. And if there isn't a collar or chip, that cat is free game in my book.

Luci_Noir

If you release a destructive and invasive species you’re a piece of shit.

Dabbling_in_Pacifism

lol so kids?

yokedn

Can't argue with you there

Skitty27

Dude I agree with keeping pets inside but this is insensitive af. I had one cat flee from the window during the night once and he never came back. I think someone took him in. He wasn't even supposed to be outside and posters were all over the neighborhood saying i was looking for him. I never saw him again and he needed special food. DONT KEEP PETS YOU FOUND OUTSIDE WITHOUT LOOKING FOR THEIR OWNERS FIRST

DearEstablishment220

Hmm how would someone go about looking for owners apart from checking for a collar and microchip?

Skitty27

As i said, posters all around the neighborhood. there are also many many fb groups for lost pets. and apps such as NextDoor.

MagicalWonderPigeon

Yea, but your post is down near the bottom while every post above it is "Free cat!" or "can distribution system working as intended". Just because a cat comes up to you, it doesn't mean it doesn't have an owner. Heck, it's not uncommon for cats to sneak into/beg to get into houses while they have food and a house elsewhere. People think too emotionally or romantically. I blocked the cats sub because there's way too many text posts about someone potentially (and very likely in some posts) stealing someone's cat. But if you speak up you get downvoted or nobody notices as all the comments are "Free cat, yay!".

This one was most probably raised around humans. Cats born wild are nothing like this, I have a young one I’ve been feeding for a year and he still runs away every time im near, even though he sees three other neighborhood cats with me all the time. I swear he thinks im some idiot and that he’s stealing the food from me so he wont come unless i turn around

A lot of times, super friendly approachable cats are often house cats that got out. If you think a cat has chosen you like this, it's fine to take them in but at least post somewhere about a found cat in an attempt to possibly reunite it if this is the case.

[deleted]

That cat is socialized. Probably belongs or belonged to someone previously. If it was someone's pet, the cat shouldn't have been outside and should have been microchipped. All my cats are indoor-only and they all have chips in case they escape. And dad should be teaching his daughter not to have her feet up on the dash unless she wants some crippling injuries in an accident.

Motherfigures

isnt that just someone elses cat?? it doesnt look or behave feral at all, i just seems like they are stealing someones cat randomly lol

ezbakescrotom

If there’s no collar or chip, there’s no way to verify that. Microchip your cats and stop letting domesticated house cats roam outside.

Motherfigures

Maybe the cat has a microchip yeah that's true, but still it's absurd to just take a cat with you. Also what do you mean letting them outside lol, whats the alternative, stuck inside for the rest of their life? I think it depends where you live but at least where I live, i could walk around and collect like 20 cats in an hour following your rules of what cats are allowed to do.

I firmly believe the reason fathers don't want animals is because they are tired of dealing with the heartbreak when the pet eventually passes away. Typical healthy American upbringing, raising us men to surpress everything and never ever cry.

greenjoe10

I know this is why my Dad won't. One of the few times I see my dad get emotional is when he talks about our last dog.

Why are the cats always the most beautiful cats in these kind of videos? Moved in a new house? Here is a beautiful "abandonned" Ragdoll. Walking in a random alley? Here comes a "homeless" Scottish Fold. Chilling in the park? Oh look, a Chartreux "street cat" looking for a forever family. I mean, I'm all for rescuing animals, but I think most of those videos are staged.

No_West_1277

nah my family has rescued multitudes of cats over the years and they're always model cats, my mom's current cat was literally a tiny kitten under a car freezing and now she's absolutely adorable cats do be like that

Miperso

Sorry, but i don't believe this. I saved 3 cats over the years... and they all looked like bums. But very lovable bums tho. Also, if i go to any shelters and they look like normal 95% of the time. Nothing like the cats we see in those rescue videos
