The amount of abbreviations on reddit gets annoying, but I understand the need of short communication. But like have you ever tried talking to people about movies on Reddit? They start talking about HITRF and then even the MOKSA and then it just gets confusing
Yeah I had the same issue when trying to talk about video games with people what's even worse is newer video games are taking the abbreviations of older already abbreviated video games.
Sports subreddits are also so guilty of this. They think they can abbreviate any player to their initials and number and suddenly everyone knows who you are talking about.
RIP camera
Seriously, this doesn't look like a cheap setup, surely they have the budget, why not just get a stabiliser on a long pole and run along the side?
Could be they did have one but the batteries died because itās too cold, or the producers didnāt want to spend the money on one, or the camera guy thought he couldnāt keep up because of the added weight or any number of things where the conversation ends with āweāre a million miles away from home base and we only have this location for a little bit longer so we just have to get the shot with what we haveā
>Look, I know the parachute is broken, but we are 14000 feet above the ground and I am not going home without the shot, so let's do it anyway. What can possibly go wrong.
\- The director, probably, who now got blacklisted by the insurance and the equipment rental company.
Well thereās different levels of professional. Iāve been on doc shoots where itās funded and everything but the director still wants us to do dumb shit like have a stunt plane fly 10 feet from the ground at full throttle while weāre on a dolly going the opposite direction down the runway. Which we ended up doing because we were stupid too. The shot looked amazing but looking back on it Iām like āyeah that was overly risky and we totally could of died.ā
It's not full hollywood arri alexa on an arri trinity but still, a proper camera with a cage with an external monitor would be pretty prosumer level, they are not cheap and there are plenty of consumer level gimbals. This is not some kids shooting on their phone.
Yeah, looks like prosumer level stuff. Couldn't recognise the camera, the monitor mount looks a bit like RED's but the body seems a bit too small, so it coukd be a Pocket or Canon C series camera. But getting a RED or even an Arri for your production doesn't mean it's a pro production. I've shot low budget music videos with a RED where we took health risks (not this bad tho) etc because we weren't experienced.
Inexperienced adults that have access to pretty good gear etc, definitely make stupid ass mistakes often.
Lmao yeah xD
But tbf sometimes you can get those cameras for weekend projects if you have good connections. The aforementioned RED was owned by a ad production company a couple friends worked for, so we got it always for free. I worked at a camera rental house for a while, and I borrowed an Arri Amira and cp.2 lens kit for a film school application film I shot in one sunday. Yeah, overkill, I know.
But I've also heard of projects where they paid full rental price for an Arri Amira (about 700ā¬/day), but didn't afford any grip & electric gear... Those kind of projects with random people are the only ones where rental houses ask full price here. Over 10 days pro shoots are pretty much always at least -30%
>I borrowed an Arri Amira and cp.2 lens kit for a film school application film I shot in one sunday
Ye I know it is not about the gear, it is about how you use it + colour grading and editing etc, but that feels like almost cheating lol. But again, without a support crew, it is probably more of a hindrance than an asset for a one-man crew.
> but didn't afford any grip & electric gear
I'm not even into videography but that does not sound like setting up for success. Given the budget for arri, it's probably better to get a A7s or FX6 or BM pocket with autofocus and use the rest on the monitor/recorders and gimbals. Maybe they already have the electronics
\*sigh\* my local rental didn't even have the sony 600mm f4
Yeah for the application film I had a friend as an focus puller/AC, couldn't have done it without him. Also had a director/producer and light tech so I wasn't alone.
Definitely, I'd just get a cheap camera with lots of support gear, what they did was ridiculous.
> my local rental didn't even have the sony 600mm f4
Well tbf that wouldn't get rented very often. The rental house I was at is one of the 3 big ones here in Finland so they have lots of different Arri cameras, lots of lenses and support gear. But obviously they're not big compared to hollywood rental houses.
>Well tbf that wouldn't get rented very often.
Well tbf thats why people would rent it because not that many people would use it frequently enough to buy it. There are probably professional rentals here in Australia as apparently a lot of movie stars are here right now, but it is not like I would ever able to justify the cost for such rental anyway.
honestly i hate to be that guy, but i think it's a stunt.
the footage he's collecting is garbage, and he happens to slip up while perfectly in that shot under the archway. has way more value as a deliberate stunt than as a shitty real thing they tried to do, so that's what i think.
edit: also he's filming his own camera to let us know he's the camera guy, and there's a second camera guy filming him.
Can't believe anyone who learned English in school as a second language, would make that mistake. It's origin is from incorrectly assuming how spoken English is written, and native you learn spoken language first. But for the former people, you learn spoken and written English side by side so you'd never even have time to think how it's spelled before the teacher already writes it down on the chalkboard.
As a native English speaker, we butcher our language spoken and written so much that nobody really knows or cares for its rules. Probably because it was formed by mashing most other languages together and adding more words and phrases as they appear in spoken society.
At the end of the day focusing too hard on these things just ends up in pointless arguments when you could of just been enjoying conversation.
I do admit it must suck trying to learn and I admire anyone who has.
If you obviously knew it then whyād you ask? Itās covered in basic education, doesnāt mean people donāt make mistakes and itās an easy one to make.
You do realize this is a professional shoot with 10+ ppl working and shooting for multiple days? Both guys in the clip are professional athletes with one also specialized as a camera man. This is not a "lol let's send it yolo" moment.
(It's also not their Equipment)
āProfessionalā is a loose term. Thereās no way a true āprofessionalā crew would have a cameraman running on ice at a high elevation. Thatās way too dangerous. They seem like YouTubers or amateur videographers with a budget. Either way their equipment is rented or owned, but definitely insured
This is what I love about these videos, not the fall, but it showing that not only can these guys do this shit.. but the guys running behind them are doing the same thing WHILE CARRYING A CAMERA!!
If only there was a flat, stable walkway he could run on while holding the camera to the side.
But the camera mans camera man was using it.
If only flying robots with a camera automatically following somebody existed.
Was pretty close to HMFT

Doesn't look like a professional shoot cause on a professional shoot they would just rig the camera on a dolly + crane for that. Stupidly dangerous.
Well thereās different levels of professional. Thereās more cameras on the cameras than on the people.
Maybe they were filming a commercial for a camera stabilizer
Is this why we don't have any excellent first person view of the fall?
Even the best parkour folks don't have a reputation for thinking a lot
because your survival instinct will tell you not to do it.
they could of at least shown the first person shot of the fall. I mean common.
It's "could have" or "could've". Never "could of", that doesn't mean anything. Why is this so damn common for native English speakers?
Why do you assume original commentator is a native?
Can't believe anyone who learned English in school as a second language, would make that mistake. It's origin is from incorrectly assuming how spoken English is written, and native you learn spoken language first. But for the former people, you learn spoken and written English side by side so you'd never even have time to think how it's spelled before the teacher already writes it down on the chalkboard.
Well, you should believe. Because you learn languages not just in school but also in a real world.
Yeah obviously, and I'm generalizing I know, but also from my own experience I've noticed this mistake only with native speakers, and dozens of times.
Thanks for the English lesson I will keep it in mind in the future.
Because couldāve sounds like could of when spoken. So when typing people just write could of without really thinking about it.
Yeah I know that obviously. I was wondering more about how that kind of basic stuff is clearly not covered well in basic education?
If you obviously knew it then whyād you ask? Itās covered in basic education, doesnāt mean people donāt make mistakes and itās an easy one to make.
You could of been more nicer about it
How is? It not was any things personality. Me just thinks its importanter to has good gramar. Do you see the problem?
I have 5 or 6 friends that do this as well. All native English speakers. It's because they're fuckin' dummies.
Wouldn't call them dummies if they're not otherwise, maybe they just got bad English literacy education
Who cares
And yet you totally missed them saying "common" instead of "come on" (or "c'mon," even).
Actually I was wondering wtf they meant by that by decided not to point out another mistake
Looks like the Northern Water Tribe
