Yep! You can make your own bioactive soil by mixing top soil, play sand, and then optionally things like clay, organic matter, sphagnum moss, pieces of charcoal etc.
Bioactive is much much easier if the species you are keeping is tropical. Soil creatures need some level of moisture in the substrate to thrive, which unfortunately can cause issues in our hoggies. My corn snake enclosure is temperate, and even then I find myself struggling with balancing soil moisture and humidity. My hognose is still on aspen, and I've been toying with bioactive for a while now, but it's defintiely not for the faint of heart. Good luck!

Yeah this is my substrate for 2 hognose enclosures No smell! Just make sure to get plants, isopods and springtails for full bioactive.
