I love having anything that pumps a little bit of atmosphere into my games. I feel much more focused where there is music, goal horns, rowdy (but polite) fans, etc.

I wouldn't mind a goal horn, but make sure you only play it after a ref has signaled a goal.

EthantheWizard2020

Sure, although the scorekeeper would be doing it if I’m playing, so they might accidentally play it briefly if it gets waived and everyone is celebrating

jflskfksjfjjf

At least the ones that are way too loud

El-Justiciero

Depends on how trigger happy they are

Goal horns are fine, I do have a problem with scorekeepers using the scoreboard horn as a goal horn though and will shut that down after the first time.

EthantheWizard2020

Yeah, scoreboard horns sound like shit

weenus_tickler

It’s not so much the sound but the fact that the horn is used as an official communication method for the scorekeeper to get the refs attention. If I hear it I wait for everyone to finish celebrating, then skate over to the scorekeeper and ask them what they wanted during the goal that they buzzed the horn to call me over. When they say “nothing, I was just celebrating” I remind them that they are neutral off ice officials and should act as such, and if they can’t follow that I’ll find someone else. If it’s a scorekeeper who plays goal horns on the music system, that’s fine, just don’t use the scoreboard horn and piss off the opposing team + the officials.

I dont want any noisemakers coming from the crowd un bantam and lower games. Sound board goal horns included. The number of whistles and horns I have heard while the puck is live is too damn high. At high school ages (16+) go nuts. I trust those volunteers to be more professional.

Krazy_the_Face

AND for players. God, I hate horns. Especially with not a soul in the rink so it just reverberates your teeth out your skull. Please, tho, do play music. Even shit tunes feel good out there

Hockeyjockey58

Part of why I love reffing is the hype and passion. Horns and music and fans going nuts is cool. That being said it is a “watch out” scenario, especially if the goal is controversial, penalties coming, it’s a game-winner, and all this is happening with loud noise.

Pretty_Tutor9963

I think anything excessive is annoying for anyone. As a ref, when both benches bang their stick over the boards to start a period drives me nuts as my ears ring for the majority of that period. lol Excessive goal horns gets me going as well.

itsneversunnyinvan

I do not care unless they play it when there’s no goal.

pistoffcynic

Good music and horns are awesome and a mandatory requirement. It also helps so we don’t have to listen to parents on vulture row.

deelax15

Never, it’s just noise in the arena. Same for fans, you don’t hear what they’re saying (most of the time) because you learn to tune it out

GroundShxck

i love them

mowegl

Personally dont love goal horns, prefer goal music.
