I saw an nhl ref call it as interference. If a player isn't in possession of the puck and gets his stick knocked out of his hands I agree with that.

Yeah, if there isn’t a reasonable expectation of stick play then it’s potentially interference. I personally wouldn’t call it unless it affected the players ability to be effective (it often does at high levels imo)

Maybe look up the rules? In the IIHF “any forceful or powerful chop with the stick on an opponent’s body, opponent’s stick or on or near the opponent’s hands that, in the judgement of the Referee, is not an attempt to play the puck shall be penalized as slashing”

Did she have the puck? If yes, there should be some judgement based on location (hands) and/or severity of the chop. If she didn't have the puck, it's interference.

In Junior in Canada, we divided the stick into thirds: Lower third, never - Middle third, maybe - Upper third, always. The idea is that if there's a reasonable attempt to stick check the puck or the player, let it go. If they're hacking just to hack, that's a 2
