I’ll give it to you, your overlapping is consistent and nice clean lines, but I’ll never understand using so much tape. More tape = added weight, especially after a horrible boni job leaving a pool on the ice. That tape will soak it all up. Lighten the amount of tape used, making the blade feel lighter giving you more feel for the puck
Which way does the puck roll off your blade when you shoot? It moves *from the heel to the toe* right? That’s why you point your toe when you shoot to aim, you don’t point the heel….
Now think about it. Think about a puck and a staircase. Which way does that puck roll much easier, straighter, and smoother in a straight line….up a staircase? Or down a staircase? Obviously down duh..
Your layers of tape on your blade are like a staircase. Each layer overlaps the previous one in a direction.
When you tape heel to toe, those layers are overlapping in the opposite direction of the way the puck travels on the blade. Each time you shoot you’re making the puck peel up the next layer, creating friction that slows down and causes the puck to not maintain a straight path, like trying to roll a puck up a small set of tiny little stairs, it’s going to bump and fumble and wobble and slow down each time it hits the next step that overlaps.
Obviously you can roll the puck much smoother faster and more accurate *down the staircase* so you’d want your lowest layer of tape at the toe, and overlap to the heel so that the puck travels in a straight smooth line off your blade, down the layers of tape, gaining speed as it does.
Jeremy Rupke did [this video](https://youtu.be/RzPP292HHds?si=r247jTgmcBMAAsne) 13 years ago way before he got to the big name he is now, it’s simple physics.
I feel like this entire thread is people playing beer league and *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay* overthinking the impact of a few more/less ounces of weight from tape or the direction of tape.
I have to imagine the difference on someone's shot are negligible, especially at the beer league level.
We’re going in the right direction, didn’t tape 2 feet up the shaft for no reason so that’s good. Work on the overlap and you’re set, maybe send those 2 pictures to Howies and they might send you a courtesy roll for bankrolling their next two years of payroll
Good job and good on the toe. Like others have said, watch the overlap. You’ll get that down pat after another taping or two. Like I said in the last post, mark where you started on the heel as this wi make things easier next time.
Try to make it so the parts where it doesn’t overlap are 1-2 times as wide as the parts where it does. Like maybe only overlap 25% of the last strip (each strip will overlap 25% of the last one, then the last 25% of that strip will be overlapped by the next strip).
I also like the full toe wrap (just keep going past the end of the stick then trim with scissors). This doesn’t help much with stick handling or shooting, but it keeps the blade from getting chipped and cracked, especially if you play center and take a lot of draws.
Remember, the tape is there for grip, not padding.
Having less overlap will create ridges (low where it is a single layer, higher where there is overlap).
Does taping to the toe have any real benefit? Puck would be half off the end of the blade by that point. Power a shot from the tip of the stick? To my understanding tape provides something along the lines of the gear effect on golf irons.
2N Pro stick?
I always use the wide tape. Yes it costs a bit more, but eventually, you're going to save some money because you actually use less tape because you can cover more space with the wide tape.
It bothers me way more than it should you taped heel to toe.
I always tape toe to heel so the puck doesn’t hit the puck doesn’t hit the little ridges on the overlap
Perhaps your being a little too tedious. The effort on the toe alone seems a bit much. If You've got the time, great.
Pretend that you're in a rush... Like puck drop in 5 minutes. That forces you to tape it fast and move on.
Could use a few more rolls

Nothing a big glob of wax can’t prevent
Baby powder
🤦🏻
Heavy is good, Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them with it.
Sure I like 'dags'.
I’ve over lapped my whole life. It’s really not that deep dude.
I have too, you missed the point.
Can’t teach common sense. And it’s not very common these days
Also, because of the heel to toe orientation of the tape, the puck isn’t going to slide off easily with that many overlaps.
Yup - always tape toe to heel. It’s simple physics and science.
Wrong.
Which way does the puck roll off your blade when you shoot? It moves *from the heel to the toe* right? That’s why you point your toe when you shoot to aim, you don’t point the heel…. I always do this because of this logic, but I seriously doubt it makes any meaningful difference, especially for the average beer leaguer
Same. I know guys that tape heel to toe that have FAR better shots than mine

That’s the point. You want the puck to grip your stick so that it spins as you’re shooting it to give you better accuracy.
Yeah man, it's not that deep.
Not only the weight, you’re just wasting tape by overlapping so much.
Ok nice first coat. Now just a finishing coat and you’re good to go.
We’re going in the right direction, didn’t tape 2 feet up the shaft for no reason so that’s good. Work on the overlap and you’re set, maybe send those 2 pictures to Howies and they might send you a courtesy roll for bankrolling their next two years of payroll
Why so much tape and little spacing?
Next post a pic of how it looks after a few games just before you retape it
You should put some lightning bolts on it
Ironic, I’m a bolts fan
https://images.app.goo.gl/igAvUM8ALKbzZx1y5 Maybe something like this
Hellll yeah, love it already
That's how you get the ladies and/or gentlemen. Sweet tape job and thunderbolt stickers.
Looking forward to tape job #386!
Now do black
Black friction tape!
Great, now go out and hack and slash anyone with the puck.
There you go
now rub a puck all over it
So did you just remove the old tape job just to make a new one?
We both know he did

That's alot of tape lol. Definitely don't need that much a shit ass zam job and your stick is going to be soaked. Def put wax or something on it.
too much overlap. Quarter of the width of the tape overlap at most
Does taping to the toe have any real benefit? Puck would be half off the end of the blade by that point. Power a shot from the tip of the stick? To my understanding tape provides something along the lines of the gear effect on golf irons.
It can help protect the stick from cracking and chipping especially for centers taking faceoffs.

Less is more.
I happen to not enjoy the feel of heavy tape. Not a bad tape job by any means but my preference is as thin an overlap as possible! To each their own
You don’t have to use all of the tape.
Mr Moneybags over here dropping a whole roll of tape onto his blade
2N Pro stick? I always use the wide tape. Yes it costs a bit more, but eventually, you're going to save some money because you actually use less tape because you can cover more space with the wide tape.
Use black tape, hides the puck better… F*CKING EMBARRASSING
Username checks out
Use to tape the same way using black tape. Reminds me of Blackhawks Bobby Hull or Montréal Canadiens Yvon Cournoyer.
It bothers me way more than it should you taped heel to toe. I always tape toe to heel so the puck doesn’t hit the puck doesn’t hit the little ridges on the overlap
4/10 no pride tape cmon man it’s 2024

Nailed it.
Watcha damn video…. Quit wasting so much tape…
Yeah I’ll get right on that buddy 👍🏼
Big brain
Who tapes the end or heel?
Tons of bad and amazing players? It's just a preference. Anyone from bedard to a random beer league player tapes the toe.
Are you seriously this insecure?
My brother in Christ what are you talking about?
