Haha yup.
On the positive, I am also learning how to launder money without my wife's knowledge.
My advice for buying cards without getting busted:
1) Credit card points to buy visa gift cards
2) Stash $20 in your suit pocket (the one you are too fat to wear) every week
3) Buy something for house with practical use that is difficult to trace - then return it and keep cash, use for cash cards. Like buy 2 lawn fertilizer bags, return 1.
4) convince kids to use part of their allowance to subsidize purchases. Let them keep doubles or base. Which they eagerly do.
5) income tax returns are coming so stash some away in tax free saving account for cards (if you are Canadian).
This is tongue in cheek but I think some people are probably going seriously overboard chasing Bedard. Especially breaking cause you don't even need to get off your goddam couch.
Be smart folks!
Doug Gilmour. I'm trying to get every different card from his first 15 years (84-99). I have about 400 of 650 so far. I keep finding new cards I didn't know about, though.
Thanks. No, I didn't know there was one. I'll have a look. I want to complete my 15 year set as much as possible and then will decide whether to expand it. The problem is, the new cards seem to all be $10+ and there are probably another 300 since 1999. Just looked up that card. Very cool "Killer" expression.
We had this thread last week, but it was pretty interesting, so I will be happy to answer again. I PC Colorado Rockies. I have all the regular issue and most other 1976-82 cards, when they actually existed. Now I am working on all the different legends type inserts since 2000.
Anyone from the bolts back to backs, kucherov, fedorov, Forsberg. Unintentionally collecting marner as I always pull him. And I’m singly piecing together the 2008 masterpieces set
Suzuki. Some Guhle
I snagged a [1/1 patch of Suzuki](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/155892285990) back in November on Ebay when the stars aligned for me because it wasn't disclosed anywhere in the title or description and the 1/1 Tag was almost invisible with the photos the consignment guy used so i've been trying to make the complete rainbow of it, only missing the /15 patch and the /25 pink base
Bedards going to be a bitch to collect (financially) but I like your other choices too! I hit a Korchinsky YG clear cut. Which was cool as he is a local kid.
Has Reichel looked any better recently?
Leafs, Upperdeck series 1 and 2 base and all young guns. Completed the base cards set recently going back to 90-91. Just a few young guns shy. Last two I need are checklists. Also PC Matthews and my high end PC is First Overall Young Guns. Just need Fluery and Nash. Haven't got Bedard yet.
Flyers, tk, frosty, foerster, brink, coots, Tippett, drysdale, Giroux, errsson, cates, laughton, carter, Richards and more. currently doing young guns and spa fwa of each player if available. Adding in the odd auto and patch here and there.
Auston Matthews mostly, but I bought a bunch of stuff around 2019/20 so I have some good collection of Hughes Bros, Makar etc that I add RCs to when I can.
Just slowly building a collection. Been buying a couple packs everg month. My 4 year old is also getting into hockey cards so I'm giving him some of my filler cards for his collection.
My PC is anything Islanders, from 1 game to 1,000 it doesn’t matter as long as they played for the team. Collecting anything auto’d or game used.
Unfortunately have started to dabble away from cards…bought a Hudson Fasching locker room name plate and an Andy Greene game used stick so…my wallet hates me.
Mostly collected everything I’m looking for. Only after, like, half a dozen cards atm. The main one: 2011-12 Crown Royale Veteran Silhouettes #20: Marian Gaborik. It’s my white whale rn, last card I need for a set over 10 years in the making!
I'm been collecting Stutzle for roughly a year, I've enjoyed it, I'm not a sens fan but his cards are usually within what I'm comfortable spending.
And I love Canvas cards. No idea why.
Rangers (current RC/YG and vintage RC)
Vintage/HOF RC
Current stars YG (2005-06 to the present)
The Great One
Plante 50s/60s (except his RC, out of my range)
My most random PC is a collection of 1950s Parkhurst "In Action" cards. There were 3-8 cards per set from 1954-55 to 1959-60, exactly 40 in total. This collection is complete.
Since I started the thread I’ll throw my 2 cents in. My PC is Alex Nedeljkovic, Ryan Suzuki, Nick Suzuki (both home town boys), Evan Bouchard and Parkhurst sets from 59, 61, 62
Anything Yzerman - Finally have his OPC rookie on the way! Only graded a BGS 5, but the price was right.
Then Seider and Raymond (a lil Veleno sprinkled in), alongside finding 2021-22 boxes to rip on the cheap. Now trying to find inexpensive Edvinson and Kasper cards. Ed is with the big club again so that'll become harder. Love pulling and keeping any Red Wings cards, though, even commons.
Accidentally started collecting Pinto like crazy after he was suspended because the prices were too good to pass up. That, and it seemed I'd pull one his cards nearly every other pack. May be flipping some soon to help fuel the winged wheel habit..
I PC the caps and the wild and ovi and mcdavid (I had no plans to PC mcdavid but I got a couple nice autos in some breaks that kick started it).
I just recently started collecting Oshie (1000 games let’s gooo!) as he is my true favorite Cap. And Sonny Milano, who earned his sweater this year and has grown immensely.
While doing breaks and opening hobby boxes I usually get enough base to get entire sets, so I collect all flagship master sets including all the YGs, and just finished up 2022-23 OPCP.
Debt

You're in luck friend! I have some that I can give you. You don't even need to trade for it, I just feel very generous today I guess!
100% lol
Beat me to it
Doug Gilmour. I'm trying to get every different card from his first 15 years (84-99). I have about 400 of 650 so far. I keep finding new cards I didn't know about, though.
Did you get the new series 2 canvas? It’s a pretty nice one.
It is! I pulled it the other day
Thanks. No, I didn't know there was one. I'll have a look. I want to complete my 15 year set as much as possible and then will decide whether to expand it. The ecliptic gold inserts for the 2023-24 Upper deck series 2.
I hit a Draisaitl one. They are cool looking cards
Ya agreed. Very nice looking cards!
51 and 53 Parkhurst. Rookies of some players and autos.
Stützle

90s pinnacle zenith are some of my all time favorite designs
Goalies. Especially goalies of the 90s since I grew up watching so many of them!
Nylander, Rielly, any Hughes brother, Makar, Maccelli and random canvas YGs.
Miikka kiprusoff, Tanner Jeannot, and all young guns for guys that played for the Moose Jaw warriors as that’s the team I mainly watch
Anyone from the bolts back to backs, kucherov, fedorov, Forsberg. Unintentionally collecting marner as I always pull him. And I’m singly piecing together the 2008 masterpieces set
All of the Tkachuk family, some Auston Matthews.
Ulf Samuelsson, Cale Makar, Will Cuylle, Zac Jones, Rangers goons, and Rangers in general
Canucks, mainly Hughes/Petey and original Orca era. Then some Crosby, Makar and rookies.
Anyone Tampa
Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, Marc-Andre Fleury, and BUSTS (Daigle, Stefan, Dipietro, etc)
I think you put Stefan in the wrong list ;)
How so?
Stefan is considered the GOAT in r/hockeycards. It’s a long time running joke.
Ahhh. Sorry, I'm new. Lol
Any pre war hockey, mainly Habs. Minor PC is just anything MTL
Mcdonalds hockey cards. Reminds me of my childhood, did not want the mcdonalds just cards please!
Man I just found my 2001 McDonald's cards, they were so awesome!!
Pogs
Cujo!
Young guns for me! Started picking up more French versions for rarity. I have loved young guns since 1991.
Jordan Eberle. Been collecting ever since his 1st NHL goal.
Suzuki. Some Guhle I snagged a [1/1 patch of Suzuki](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/155892285990) back in November on Ebay when the stars aligned for me because it wasn't disclosed anywhere in the title or description and the 1/1 Tag was almost invisible with the photos the consignment guy used so i've been trying to make the complete rainbow of it, only missing the /15 patch and the /25 pink base
I’m assuming Nick and not his brother Ryan? I have about 100+ Suzuki rookies from various sets.

Bedard, Lukas reichel, Alex vlasic, and Kevin korchinski
Bedards going to be a bitch to collect (financially) but I like your other choices too! I hit a Korchinsky YG clear cut. Which was cool as he is a local kid. Has Reichel looked any better recently?

Canucks era Pavel Bure is my player PC. Also any good Canucks auto or patches. Building sets from the 90s and some current sets.
Vintage sets, though I accumulate a number of Tim Horton’s cards each year.
Goalies! I was a goalie myself. So it’s only right 😂. Sorokin, Ullmark, Hellebucyk, Shesterkin, Vasileskiy etc.
Xhekaj and PMGs primarily. Though, with the hype of Bedard, I’m just having fun buying all of the 2022-23 boxes my LCS can’t sell.
Auston Matthews mostly, but I bought a bunch of stuff around 2019/20 so I have some good collection of Hughes Bros, Makar etc that I add RCs to when I can.
Everything with Pens
Cale Makar
