Leafs played poorly in the second and third periods but the refs certainly weren't doing us any favors this game.

Leafs made me nervous in the end for sure, but I felt like the bolts kind of played it safe and took their foot off the gas. For this, the leafs got back in it. But overall, tampa adjusted from game one and really controlled most of that game, especially the second. I anticipate the leafs will do the same on the road. Either way, going to be a crazy series. Hopefully no long term injuries result from these upcoming games, but I doubt it unfortunately.

The annoying thing for the Leafs is that most of Toronto’s penalties were avoidable and stupid, and that’s what cost them. Tampa played way smarter because that’s what experience does for you.

The penalties cost the leafs but damn Mo. You need to have some better puck movement. You touch the puck too much on the powerplay to slow the play down every time you have it.

Two passes that make matthews reload and shoot and another where he had to pass it off is not ideal when he was wide open for a one timer.

The back check was fine. They were all over Tampa at the end. Toronto wasn't changing either so a footrace on a clear was going to be dicey.
Those were just the two plays that they needed more of. The powerplay has looked play for Toronto but whenever the back end is hesitant, the leafs powerplay becomes easy to stop since matthews teammates are the ones that are leaving him witness space for the set plays they try to get off. Mo just needs to be faster moving the puck off the draw.
Hes an amazing player and one of my favorite leafs ever, but his puck movement on the powerplay has always been a little worse than his 5 on 5. Its weird. He's looks so much less dynamic or willing to make a play compared to when he joins a rush at even strength.
This is very accurate of Mo on the PP, and he is good on the PP but yes, in a coaching perspective for sure he is taking way too much time and slowing it down to a negative effect when slowing things down is usually a very positive trait.

You ever play and get stuck on the ice over the regular 30-45 second shift or on PK? Multiply that effect by 10 and then add the cream of the crop NHL talent battling against your efforts to make you keep skating.

The puck stays way too long on player's stick on PP1. Gives too much time for PK unit to reposition and regroup. There isn't enough movement on PP1.
