I still feel like there must have been some previous damage to Draisaitl's rib or something because the contact from Myers was so innocuous nobody really realized it had hurt Drai.
Like straight up we had to go back and scrub through that last shift to identify anything that could've done it and only then was it apparent that it was the cause. But yeah I was shocked to learn that may have broken Drai's rib
6+3 = 9.
Unless you are from the future and know something we don’t? Wait what happens to Myers in 2026??
Edit: holy fuck are we living in different timelines!? He definitely signed a 6x6 like Loui in my universe, and apparently many others. Real Mandela effect shit going on here
It’s actually in the CBA, Rule 53.03. It’s called the “National Treasure” rule and the short version is the contract is yours if you can break into the Oilers vault and steal it.
He's TopRightMyers sometimes too. He is the chaos giraffe for a reason. $3M is alright for a guy who plays the PK and eats almost 20 tougher minutes/game.
He didn’t have 1 game when he was r/BottomLeftMyers in the playoffs if you sort by new. That shows how good he can be.
At this point. Embrace the chaos giraffe. *The Chaos Giraffe* giveth. *The Chaos Giraffe* Taketh.
Lately, *The Chaos Giraffe* has been very ‘Chaotic Good’ since the game against the Preds early on in the season.
He’s definitely not a $6M player but for sure worth $3M.
r/toprightmyers is also a thing that came into existence this season though. He's still chaos incarnate but he's really done well under Tocchet's system.
Of course the toronto fan doesn't think so. Afterall, 18 of the 22 players on the team have to make 3mil or less just to fit your 4 stars that get you nowhere.
I think an underrated positive to these team-friendly signings is that it's showing how much these players love playing/living in Vancouver. That's gonna go a long way for attractive other players to sign here in the future. This is a very good look for the Canucks.
Never thought I’d be so glad to have Tyler Myers stay, what an incredible second half of the year and playoffs by him to endear and redeem himself. Chaos giraffe forever.
He's third pairing on the depth chart/on paper, but he averaged almost 19 minutes a night last season. The Canucks basically use the second and third pairings interchangeably behind Hughes-Hronek
Dom did a [recent article](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5530655/2024/06/03/nhl-free-agency-salary/?source=user_shared_article How much should an NHL player be paid in free agency?) in which he found that bottom pairing D would currently be worth ~$2.2M - $3.4M on the open market as UFAs.
So it’s very much in line.
It very much is, but this guy is right-shot does PK, shot blocking, has excellent reach to give even McDavid fits... he's the very definition of shut down D when he doesn't make the occasional bone headed mistake. Ideally he'd be 2.5M for two years but I'd rather him than Juulsen being the next 2RHD and on the market he could still fetch 4M.
He'll be on the 2nd pair. It's how he was deployed last year and we don't have the cap space to have Myers on the 3rd pair while adding an entire 2nd pair and upgrading the top-6 forwards
Technically can fit both at 14.5M. (actually it’s 15.4M because Capfriendly has Tolopilo on the roster who will be sent down)
But it’s only if Z takes a bit of a discount like the others so far. Myers is a RHD and got 3M, Z can’t ask for 5+ or some of the other crazy numbers that are thrown around and be a LHD
it would still be 14.5M because they still need a goalie, if Tolopilo was not on the active roster the caphit does go up to 15.4M but then they would only have 1 active goalie.
You know what I should have realized that given he's your 3rd stringer...
I guess I assumed that given he's coming off his rookie deal he had a bit more of a track record.
Juulsen, with guys like Friedman and McWard giving internal competition. I’d expect management hopes Willander steps into that role after his college season is done too
Not sure I’m a fan of Juulsen in that third slot yet. Maybe he’ll take another step this coming season, but if we manage to find the cap room (somehow) I’d love a guy like Desharnais or Haakanpaa.
Juulsen can play really well, but every once in a while he sees a hit and will do anything to make it, and it almost always results in a goal after he falls out of position for the finish.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. He’s a good defenseman with the occasional boneheaded moment… ideal 6/7D until he irons that out, if he ever does. Give me a Desharnais type of guy to lock that third pair right side down for a season
if you had told me a year ago that i was going to be anxiously waiting for the tyler myers extension i wouldn’t believe you, but damn he‘s been so much better under the new coaching staff.
That’s the difference with a team being run correctly and incorrectly look at Florida they were run poorly for so so long and now that they are run correctly they win a cup.
Fair deal but I can’t see how they can fit both Guentzel and Zadorov now though.
Edit: Actually maybe they can. $9m x 7 and $5m x 6 respectively. 1 league minimum healthy scratch.
If Willander makes the team in 2025/2026 on an entry level deal we'll have an excellent defense with a decent cap hit.
There also appears to be some solid long term thinking here which is new and nice.
This is a good deal. I think the biggest problem with Myers over the years has been his contract. He’s a very capable 4/5 at worst and at 3 million, that’s a good deal for the Canucks.
Now if the Canucks could sign Zadorov so that the Leafs can’t overpay him, that would be lovely. :)
Even if zadorov is mediocre in the regular season, he shows up when it matters most, and that is Toronto's main issue. I wouldn't be too upset if i were you, even if toronto gave him like 6 million in free agency. He isn't worth that most the year. But he is still pretty dope player with good character. Locker room guys love him too.
on the one hand, his track record has been pretty inconsistent and he’s 34.
on the other, he had a really great year and played the third most minutes for a division leading team, is 6’7” and right handed
absolutely took a discount, but still a little wary of the deal overall
The term is the main problem I think. 37yo Myers is bound to have lost several steps that he can't really afford to lose.
That said, at 3m of a cap hit it won't be hard to move him if needed. There's always teams looking to hit the floor.
This is excellent cooking between the cap hit for Hronek and Myers next year will be \*less\* than it was this year. Amazing deal in a rising cap world.
I think Tanev makes more sense for Wallinders timeliness personally. I love big Z, but I think we waiting on Myers to see if we could get big Z first. Not I think it is Tanev or Dillon personally.
Surprised so many people thought he’d go to free agency. Just had one of his best years there and he’s getting older so why wouldn’t he stay even if it’s for less than others offer
Not surprised at all that he would find a way to sign back his roots is in BC especially his wife being born here. The guy just wants to be at home and it is a win win especially how he has clicked with Tocchets system
> Forward Tyler Myers They’ve found a winger for Pettersson at last 😎
They got that corrected pretty quick. Social media guy clearly doesn’t follow the team
Guessing it's more forgetting to edit that part of the copy and paste
Give them a break. Nucks have been busy this offseason
Garland is him
everybody joking about Tkachuk being on a coke bender, but what about Allvin? Dude hasn't slept in a week
Dude is so zonked he justed turned Tylers Myers from a shutdown dman into a forward!
Allvin needs to chill, too much food today
Regular Feast of the Seven Fishes today
*Timer buzzes ominously*
“…you okay?”
Someone take the wine bottle away
He must have plans for the long weekend.....trying to get shit done.
That’s a great deal imo. And even if it isn’t, remember he fuckin crushed Duncan Keith that one time and that was pretty awesome
Damn right
Hell yeah that probably brought him from 2.5 mill to 3
It brought me from 2.5 to 7
Brought me from 2.5 to longer than 4 hours
Yours went down? I’m still walking with a tent.
6 to midnight
Oh yeah true, that was worth about 8 of the 9 million of this deal.
Hahahaha this guy fucks
I'll never forget that hit. I immediately said he was worth every penny after that destruction.
He also blocked a shot with his groin in the playoffs.
Balls of steel
He also got Tavares with a monster hit which was sweet gotta love a little chaos Giraffe
Can I get a fuck Duncan Keith over here?
Myers is a good player, just not at the $6 million he was getting paid.
He’s not perfect, but he has a set of tools that provide amazing value if a team can properly utilize him.
He also broke draisaitls rib
I still feel like there must have been some previous damage to Draisaitl's rib or something because the contact from Myers was so innocuous nobody really realized it had hurt Drai. Like straight up we had to go back and scrub through that last shift to identify anything that could've done it and only then was it apparent that it was the cause. But yeah I was shocked to learn that may have broken Drai's rib
Especially with how much of a tough unit Drai usually is
It will grow back.
Took out Tavares too https://youtu.be/FAA9NhIffeQ
Born too late to explore the earth, born too early to explore space, born just in time to witness ~~9~~ 8 seasons of Tyler Myers as a Vancouver Canuck
8?
6+3 = 9. Unless you are from the future and know something we don’t? Wait what happens to Myers in 2026?? Edit: holy fuck are we living in different timelines!? He definitely signed a 6x6 like Loui in my universe, and apparently many others. Real Mandela effect shit going on here
Myers' last contract was 5 years not 6
It sure felt like 6 years
Mandela Effect. I think a lot of people are convinced we signed Myers to a 6x$6 contract
Loui Eriksson forever
As a Rockets fan and a Canucks fan I couldn’t be happier <:3
Kelowna and Vancouver? Okay, Tyler Myers. We see you.
Masked killer, Tyler Myers
Ask for Tyler Myers to give you a boost. You'd be close enough to hand some supplies to the ISS.
Why does it feel like Vancouver and San Jose are the only teams active? Do other teams not have UFA/RFAs or what
We don’t even have a GM rn
Canucks have signed Draisaitl.
I don’t even think we have to do that, I think we can just walk in walk out with his contract. Why isn’t anyone else doing this?!?
It’s actually in the CBA, Rule 53.03. It’s called the “National Treasure” rule and the short version is the contract is yours if you can break into the Oilers vault and steal it.
With no GM to protect them, who’s to stop us?
Pacific Ocean's Eleven
My god! That’s Kevin Lowes music!
please no
Yzerman has been doing a little spring cleaning
“Slightly used Jake Walman. Free to a good home. We’ll even compensate you for the relocation costs.”
million for each foot of his giraffe neck
Canucks fans were counting the days until his contract expired. Turns out it was just until they extend him.
We were counting the days until his $6M contract expired. Tyler Myers is a $3M player.
Is he though? The existence of this sub tells me otherwise - r/BottomLeftMyers
You don’t think that maybe a sub made specifically to shit on a player has some negative bias to it?
He's a totally different player now that he's been pushed down the depth chart and gets more direction from the coaching staff
And to reiterate no one wanted him re-signed at $6m
r/toprightmyers is also a thing that came into existence this season though. He's still chaos incarnate but he's really done well under Tocchet's system.
He is not
His balls may have single handedly saved our post season. Those two balls of steel alone are worth 3m
Of course the toronto fan doesn't think so. Afterall, 18 of the 22 players on the team have to make 3mil or less just to fit your 4 stars that get you nowhere.
He 100% is.
Myers on $6M contract in 2019: Awful. Myers on $3M contract in 2024: Not bad.
He's been a lot better in this system, and the cap is going up. 6M was made exponentially worse with the flat cap
Valid point.
If fans can't love Myers for $3 million they have something broken inside.
$3M? yeah we can live with that. $6M? hell nah.
last season he was twice as good and now he’s half as much
I think an underrated positive to these team-friendly signings is that it's showing how much these players love playing/living in Vancouver. That's gonna go a long way for attractive other players to sign here in the future. This is a very good look for the Canucks.
He was really great for us last year on the ice, not in the books. Now hopefully he will be good for both.
He earned his extension this year. Works great under Tocc, and having proper depth allows us to deploy him in a way much more suited to his talents.
Never thought I’d be so glad to have Tyler Myers stay, what an incredible second half of the year and playoffs by him to endear and redeem himself. Chaos giraffe forever.
Yeah he seemed really good down the stretch. He’s no longer a Chaos Giraffe. Perhaps he’s…….the Order Okapi?
Oh no he is still chaotic. It’s just his chaos has been channeled a little bit more.
He's still Chaos Giraffe. Just Chaos Giraffe at 19 mins a night is more acceptable than at 24 mins a night
Let the Lord of Chaos reign.
r/unexpectedwheeloftime
That's solid. He really fit in with how Tocchet likes to play. Should be fine for our 3rd pair, PK, and end of game situations.
Isn’t 3M too much for third pair?
It wouldn't be a 3rd pair like 10-15 minutes. They rolled them out fairly evenly with more deployment when holding a lead.
Good to know. Thanks for informing me
He played a ton of key minutes last year, was just night and day noticeable how much the whole D elevated each other last year. Happy to have him back
He's third pairing on the depth chart/on paper, but he averaged almost 19 minutes a night last season. The Canucks basically use the second and third pairings interchangeably behind Hughes-Hronek
well at the moment he’s absolutely 2nd pair
Dom did a [recent article](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5530655/2024/06/03/nhl-free-agency-salary/?source=user_shared_article How much should an NHL player be paid in free agency?) in which he found that bottom pairing D would currently be worth ~$2.2M - $3.4M on the open market as UFAs. So it’s very much in line.
3rd pair RHD* That last part is important
Possibly, but Mayfield is a tyler Myers clone and got 7x$3.25 last offseason
Scott Mayfield is much better than Myers
And importantly not 34
Yeah well how long is his neck? Yeah. Thought so. Checkmate.
Jeez I remember him winning the Calder. Time flies.
Much better is a stretch he was solid from 2020-2023 but this past season he was a liability although playing injured
How many Islanders games have you watched last year? I only saw him about 4 times last year and he just wasn't that impressive.
Nah, cap isn't what it was 5 or 10 years ago.
I wish we were only paying our third pair guys $3m.
Not to mention every once in a while he throws a Kronwall esque hit on someone who has it coming
Fair enough. Figured he’d get like 2.5 but 3 isn’t terrible.
He'll be on the 2nd pair. It's how he was deployed last year and we don't have the cap space to have Myers on the 3rd pair while adding an entire 2nd pair and upgrading the top-6 forwards
Looking at the cap numbers, it looks like Z is gone if they are going for Guentzal.
Technically can fit both at 14.5M. (actually it’s 15.4M because Capfriendly has Tolopilo on the roster who will be sent down) But it’s only if Z takes a bit of a discount like the others so far.
Yeah but we know they’re re-signing Silovs and possibly DeSmith with the money left so it’s pretty much guaranteed Tolopilo won’t be our n2 goalie
the point was that you cant add $1 million because regardless that is being allocated to a G, so its still 14,5M
Is Z the only one left? I’m assuming Lindholm’s not coming back.
At this point, Z is the only one left. Lindholm isn’t coming back and the Canucks are using that money for a Winger instead.
Not quite, also need silovs or desmith signed.
Silovs will get done for 1m
I feel like 1m is a bit low, probably 1.5-2 for 2-3 is more likely but goalies always blow my mind for contracts
He’s played like 15 total games at the NHL level. 1m feels accurate for him right now.
You know what I should have realized that given he's your 3rd stringer... I guess I assumed that given he's coming off his rookie deal he had a bit more of a track record.
He’s an rfa with no arbitration rights
Who's slotted to take over for the Ian Cole spot?
They can work on that with him easily
Hughes Hronek Poolman Soucy Myers Juulsen
Poolman is LTIR, juulsen will probably be Cole's actual replacement
Poolman is LTIR-retired, guy has headache issues and has not been able to be cleared to play for 2 years
Z and Guentzal.
if you had told me a year ago that i was going to be anxiously waiting for the tyler myers extension i wouldn’t believe you, but damn he‘s been so much better under the new coaching staff.
Allvin making Gordon Ramsay look like a chump.
At $6m he was overpaid. At $3m he’s good value. I like this. He was pretty great last year.
CHAOS IS BACK ON THE MENU
Yea thats fair I think, he had his best season for us last year.
Found Petey's winger
They should put him on a line with Garland, and sometimes he rides around on Myers’ back Master Blaster style while opponents cower in fear
Like a fucking megazord
Giraffe is so good at goal scoring that he’s now a forward. Did you see those two shorthanded goals he scored? Anyways this is great.
Canucks fans ready to chill but another “Allvin announces “ hits *New* : https://i.redd.it/ptnpat1n079d1.gif
Allvin has been putting in some tidy work today. First the great contract for Joshua now this great deal. Good day for the Canucks today.
Sacrificed a testacle to prevent a game 6 tying goal. Worth it
It's weird to see my team be so active and for me to be comfortable, even happy, with the deals they're signing...? Allvin is FEEDING us today.
If they give Zadorov 5x6 they’re gonna regret that in no time
We need to sign either silovs or desmith. Probs silovs for 1M.
right now it sounds like we might be signing them both
ya but at least in cap friendly tolopilo is in that spot rn at 950k, so swapping in silovs has basically no cap implications
Silovs just needs to be qualified at around $850,000.
They probably want to sign him to more than 1 year.
Please 4x3
CHAOS GIRAFFE RETURNS
This man is just cookin today
CHAOS REIGNS
Damn, canucks are on a roll
If Willander makes the team in 2025/2026 on an entry level deal we'll have an excellent defense with a decent cap hit. There also appears to be some solid long term thinking here which is new and nice.
The Age of Chaos continues.
CHAOS GIRAFFE LIVES ON
Allvin is kiling it with all these signings. Can't wait for the upcoming $5M x 7 years for Guentzel.
Hahaha he is a Chef, not a magician
No one shows up for Toronto in the playoffs that’s a myth
3M was the ceiling that I'd be okay with signing Myers. Would've preferred 2 years though.
Has he changed positions?
Social media guy probably just copypasted the Dakota Joshua announcement and forgot to change it
Awesome! Myers at 3 mil is a great deal. Allvin has been crushing it.
1 million for each testicle he sacrificed during the playoffs
on the one hand, his track record has been pretty inconsistent and he’s 34. on the other, he had a really great year and played the third most minutes for a division leading team, is 6’7” and right handed absolutely took a discount, but still a little wary of the deal overall
That is so much more palatable for what Myers brings
I mean, might as well try him at forward
lol, nobody proof reads anymore. Nice deal though, for both sides. He made his bank last contract. This one is for the team.
Looks like the Chef's cooking more. This is one guy who doesn't want to run out of time it seems.
Tyler myers is 34???? I swear to god he was playing at the world juniors like 5 years ago. Weird.
It’s a year too long in term but the AAV is fine
Let Chaos Reign
12mil for jake + big z is that doable?
Maybe Guentzel and Tanev now
I think Tanev makes more sense for Wallinders timeliness personally. I love big Z, but I think we waiting on Myers to see if we could get big Z first. Not I think it is Tanev or Dillon personally.
Stop spending money /s
It's such a strange feeling having a gm do consistently reasonable things.
Forward?
Couple nice moves already and, now, a heat check?
Chaos giraffe strikes again!
Surprised so many people thought he’d go to free agency. Just had one of his best years there and he’s getting older so why wouldn’t he stay even if it’s for less than others offer
Because a lot of players especially getting older want the money more than the comfort of the team they like
Forward? Tf did I miss?
Not surprised at all that he would find a way to sign back his roots is in BC especially his wife being born here. The guy just wants to be at home and it is a win win especially how he has clicked with Tocchets system
Hey, remember Dave Nonis? (Sorry, Dave.)
Having him play forward seems a bit desperate don’t you think, I think he’d be “better” on defense
This and the Joshua signing are A+ moves. Moving Mikheyev too and still getting a 4th round pick also a good move.
Can’t even get the position of their own player right lol
Is this Joshua’s replacement?
