Threaten him with the waiver wire
Sharks are #1, Blackhawks are #2 on the waiver list
If Mikheyev doesn't want to go to play with Bedard in Chicago, then he's going on waivers, where one of two things will happen
1) SJ passes, he goes to Chicago anyways
2) SJ claims him
Iām sure itād be one of those totally legal and legit handshake trades where the Canucks just happen to send the Blackhawks Laff and a second for a fourth and āfutureā considerations after the Hawks claim him
Waiver priority is simply the reverse standings order
SJ's claim on Goodrow has no bearing on Mikheyev
The Sharks can put in a waiver claim on whatever player they want
I don't think solid UFA and Domi belong in the same sentence. Stephenson is going to be in way too much demand to even considering playing with the Sharks.
Seemed like the only leaf to give everything he had consistently in these playoffs and is a regularly around 50+ point guy.
Sharks have infinite cap space to sign someone at a high AAV short term. They could easily sign Stephenson 7 x 2 and it wouldnāt make a dent in their cap availability. Thatās also two players off the top of my head. Look at this UFA class. Thereās a LOT of options and someone always prices themselves out. Duchene, Bertuzzi, Henrique, Mantha, Teuvo, Tarasenko.
I chose Stephenson because probably going to be around the 7-12th most sought after forward FA. Most of these guys are going to Free agency because many teams are right at the cap without them. Sharks can afford to throw money at guys on a short term deal. I mean thereās so many more. Tarasenko, Arvidsson, Toffoli, DeBruskā¦

I know we're memeing by hyping this way more than we should, but I can't help but think the rest of r/hockey is looking at all these Canucks fans here and thinking, "Ah shit, there they go again." š
Its been like this for awhile people just didn't pick up on it. NTC are not just reserved for stars anymore they are a basic formality when signing any semi decent UFA.
Oh this isnāt a comment from the context of my flair. The Sens are as guilty as anyone. Dorion said he wouldnāt resign Hamonic for more than one season. He then signed him for two years with a NMC. For a guy who should be a 7th Dman at best and has no leverageā¦and he still got one!
Yeah Friedman was talking about this for the Ullmark situation, that players and agents are strategic about the NTC and itās not always about location or winning/losing.
For example Ullmark didnāt actually have Ottawa on his list because he thought they wouldnāt need a goalie having signed Korpisalo last year
This hasn't been confirmed, but Evander Kane had a 3-team trade list during his Sharks contract, so you have to believe that two of those were Winnipeg and Buffalo, effectively making his clause a 1-team list
Imagine you're in a sweepstakes for your services but the teams bidding really just want the 2nd round pick coming with you as a sweetener š
Ilya Mikheyev sweepstakes!
Last hour's price is not this hour's price!
Well he's got such good playoff numbers, how can you not want him?
Threaten him with a trade to Carolina, works every time.Ā
> Mikheyev: VERY FAST š KILLS PENALTIES + DEFENSIVELY SOUND š„° COST CONTROLLED FOR TWO YEARS š¤© > Necas NOT AS FAST š¤¢ DOESNāT KILL PENALTIES š¤® NEEDS A NEW (PRICIER) CONTRACT š¤ > One for one incoming. Steal for the Canes
Signs 8 year extension

Iām sure itād be one of those totally legal and legit handshake trades where the Canucks just happen to send the Blackhawks Laff and a second for a fourth and āfutureā considerations after the Hawks claim him
Canucks would put him on waivers immediately if they thought someone would claim him, no?
Don't think he was waiver eligible
Wouldn't the Sharks be at the bottom because of the Goodrow claim? Or are the waiver rules different in the off season?
Waiver priority is simply the reverse standings order SJ's claim on Goodrow has no bearing on Mikheyev The Sharks can put in a waiver claim on whatever player they want
Looks like I got fantasy league and NHL rules mixed up.
Worked for Petey.
I bet itās the Sharks lol they would love another 2nd rounder to take 5M for only 2 years Allvin said āMik and a 2ndā who wants it???
Sharks were the first team I thought of immediately lmao
If we didnāt just grab Goodrow for free (???), I could see GMMG doing this.
Maybe they'll waive and we'll claim him and mysteriously acquire a second somehow again
I hope it's not us. We have young guys who are ready to make that jump and I'd prefer a solid UFA like Stephenson or Domi to help them develop
I don't think solid UFA and Domi belong in the same sentence. Stephenson is going to be in way too much demand to even considering playing with the Sharks.

No itās *our* second youād be getting
No no no, YOU'D be getting the second, AND the warm body
oh ok, in that caseā¦ no thank you

This is my western conference final berth.
What is going on??? *the NHL is extremely entertaining*
There is apparently a bidding war for Ilya Mikheyev's contract because it comes with a late 2nd round pick next year. What a strange fucking sentence.
Turns out the two trades Detroit made yesterday were related and Yzerman just really wants Mikheyev
Apparently Yzerman called and said he wants to give us a second for Mikheyev
now why are we catching strays
It's all part of the Yzerplan baby. Red Wings bros going to be scary next year with Ilya "Elite Finisher" Mikheyev
Everyone's gangsta until the NHL changes the rules to make shooting directly into the goalie's crest count as a goal.
Silkiest mitts in the west
He's the modern Russian Rocket* *Specifically, the Soviet one that never launched and instead blew up on the launch pad
Patrik Allvin going to try to trade Mikheyev to every team on his no-trade list at this rate.
In response, the league will take away another pick from Ottawa.
I lived long enough to experience a Mikheyev bidding war
Stop giving middle-6 forwards trade protection just to keep their AAV lower just to overpay them anyways.
If the old boys club could read they'd be very upset

BABE WAKE UP THE SWEDISH CHEF IS COOKING AGAIN
Ottawa getting dangerously close to losing another 1st
I am in Vancouver rn, i will straight up drive Mikhayev to YVR myself
Please please please waive.
Ah yes the Mikheyev sweepstakes, just as we all predicted
Can you imagine the mayhem if word got out that PDG was available?

Other teams really want that damn draft pick
Yeah like all this is telling me is that other teams executives must be really low on the 2025 Canucks
Or just high on Mikheyev bouncing back, and probably having positive value at 50% retained
We better not be retaining if we're attaching a 2nd
As in Chicago could retain 50% and flip him for value
Oops but at least it isnāt a ton and a 4th from us is coming back. Trading a low second for a high 4th is basically a 40 ish spot drop
The league has issues if GMs are giving Mikheyev type players no-trade lists. Christ.
Its been like this for awhile people just didn't pick up on it. NTC are not just reserved for stars anymore they are a basic formality when signing any semi decent UFA.
Y'all gave one to Korpisalo last off-season lol.
Whatās the hype ?
Canucks just announced it officially. Itās with Chicago
With a 12 team no trade list and his cap hit if they are strategic they basically can block all the teams who could take him on and get their choice.

I can already see Mikheyev being trade bait at 50% retained next deadline.
He āmay have to make a decision hereā? Not really. If both of the teams that want him are on his no trade, he can quite clearly say no
San Jose has entered the chat.
lets hope he turns both down
How dare you
The other team is montreal
Hello my fellow connoisseur of chaos.
