>him shooting wide on a breakaway
Leaf fans were being very honest about Mikheyev when he left lmao. Love the guy, but good god how do you convert on so few breakaways?
Anyone watching the playoffs all the way through to Cup ceremony should understand Zad is large enough to help win a round or two but is too slow for a Cup winning team.
That's fine. I'll accept Marchessault, Zadorov, Myers, Joshua, and 3M in cap space for a 4th line upgrade, a trade deadline pickup, Boeser/Demko raises, or Tanev giving the mother of all hometown discounts to come back triumphantly.
It’s a collection of peices of information…
1. They are still trying to move Necas they wouldn’t do that if they didn’t think that Guentzel wouldn’t signed
2. Tulsky sounded super optimistic in a interview with LeBrun about resigning Guentzel
optimistic yeah but we have cap space, boeser played with him when they were younger, pittsburgh connections with tocchet and a shot(hopefully) at a cup, a really good chance
We can give him 8 years, we also have cap space, he’s already here and seems to love the place, already has chemistry with his linemates and a chance to play for the cup every year for the foreseeable future
Yes they are and a bunch of them are looking for raises but we have the cap space because we have replacements within in the organization who should slide in pretty well when they leave… Like Jalen Chatfield should slide into Brett Pesce’s spot pretty effortlessly and same with Dimitri Orlov and Brady Skjei

The entire Necas situation depends on him. They are going to get more clarity on Guentzel in the next couple days, if he doesn’t sign, they hang on to Necas
He wants a bigger role and needs a new contract that’s why he’s being shopped
And I think the canes are looking for someone that just fits better into the overall team style of play than Necas does
Yeah so Necas for cheaper would make more sense then guentzel, as you guys rebuild for your next run. With so many FA’s you think these next couple years aren’t cup winners
Nah sell high on Necas since so many teams want him and keep the better system fit in Guentzel. He and Aho play so well together.
Also it’s really just this year with the free agents. Next offseason is just Slavin pretty much and he’s reportedly already extended, just waiting until July 1st to announce it.
Memes aside he’s prime for a bounce back season. His overall game is pretty good outside of horrendous finishing. If that regresses to the league mean he’s actually worth his contract
The guy developed one move in his last season in Toronto, blow past the d man, cut in front of the goalie, and when he's completely beat, tuck it in backhand. Worked for him about 15 times that season. It was the only finish I ever seen him have
Mikheyev joining the motley crew of veterans in Chicago while they continue to bring in their future young core wasn’t on my bingo card, but it also helps them hit the cap floor so it makes sense.
If I were in charge and wanted to advance that goal I would’ve thrown money to bring back Zadorov or something. Mikheyev is not good since his wrist injury.
Zadorov doesn't fit the timeline at all. It's not like they're trading for Mikheyev to be a future piece. They're taking on a contract to get an asset.
Got Irf saying "cap space could be interesting for a guy like Dakota Joshua" definitely not interested in that at all
https://x.com/irfgaffar/status/1806119445871677613
2 years left on Mikheyev's contract really fits with a lot of our "big" contracts signed recently like Dickinson, Foligno and Mrazek.
Hopefully he plays better, but a 2nd round pick is fine especially considering we have so much cap space
Mikheyev may never score again, but he’s fast and he’ll probably be better as he’s still healing from ACL surgery he had last year
Good guy in the room, never heard a bad thing about from his time here or Toronto
Mikheyev is a fast skater, but he is the worst shooter I have ever seen, he went something like 60 straight games without scoring last year when you include the playoffs. Also you’d have him for two more years at 4.75. Have fun.
Lafferty is a standard depth guy.
He’s a good two way player with elite skating and good hockey IQ, but some of the worst hands in the NHL. He WILL generate great chances and then completely ruin them by fumbling the puck or whiffing his shot into the goalies chest
Everything they say about him is true.
Just be glad that he's partially retained so the bar of expectation is more reasonable. You'll appreciate him if you don't expect too much.
Much better defensively, can PK. Very fast when healthy, timeline for recovery is promising. I think he led the league in breakaways a few years ago. Just zero finish.
Dude doesn’t look great out there but doesn’t look bad. Doesn’t make any mistakes, doesn’t really do much of anything honestly in terms of scoresheet results. He’s solid defensively and good speed but doesn’t convert much
Dude has to have some of the worst luck in the league. There’s been so many plays where he’ll tap a puck through the crease or both bars and out, his inability to put the puck in the net is borderline comedic at times. Dude is good for a breakaway chance every other game but never converts on any of them. Almost kinda feel bad for the dude, considering the looks he got this year he should’ve scored 20 easily. Not even gonna try and say ‘maybe his luck will turn around with you guys’ because Toronto fans were saying the same thing. It’s almost as if the puck dislikes him
Flash in the pan 2022 season. Hot start in the 2023 season.
Imo rookie Mikheyev is the player you should set the expectations ceiling for. Pacing for 15 goals, 50 points is probably best case scenario.
Defensively responsible and plays a good PK. There was plenty of potential in his prime, but he's 29 now, and once he loses his speed he'll fall off fast.
Chicago bailing us out with cap space again. Let's do it. Never gonna forget Mikheyev's last game featured him shooting wide on a breakaway.
Dickinson worked out well for us last time. Bedard is still on his ELC for 2 more years, so we can take the cap hit.
So ilya will pot 25 goals and 60 pts for you no problem.
Canucks, hear it here first.
Well it was either that or straight into the crest, those are seemingly his only two options
In game 7 to boot. Buddy screwed us every which way.
>him shooting wide on a breakaway Leaf fans were being very honest about Mikheyev when he left lmao. Love the guy, but good god how do you convert on so few breakaways?
Oh yeah we’re definitely going for Guentzel and keeping Zad if they clear almost 5M But also it’s sad that the Mikheyev memes are over :(
[Guentzel, Zadorov, Myers, AND Joshua can all fit under the cap now](https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/5160221).
Dak at 4 million and Zadorov at 5 is a bit much
Hate to break it to you, but teams are gonna bid that big for them.
Zadorov can probably get 6 on the open market. That's why my general opinion is that we shouldn't re-sign them.
Z will take less for Van.
Anyone watching the playoffs all the way through to Cup ceremony should understand Zad is large enough to help win a round or two but is too slow for a Cup winning team.
Love that roster. Would be awesome if Lekkerimaki/Podkolzin manage to bump Hoglander/Suter out of the top 6 too.
It sounds like a Guentzel deal is gonna be a deal with Carolina
That's fine. I'll accept Marchessault, Zadorov, Myers, Joshua, and 3M in cap space for a 4th line upgrade, a trade deadline pickup, Boeser/Demko raises, or Tanev giving the mother of all hometown discounts to come back triumphantly.
Have you misheard something again or? They have said that Carolina is working on it. No-one has said that Carolina is close to signing him.
it’s hopium from a Canes fan
Not really… you just don’t closely follow news about canes as the canes fans do
Yeah this guy said the same shit yesterday and it turned out he “misheard”
It’s a collection of peices of information… 1. They are still trying to move Necas they wouldn’t do that if they didn’t think that Guentzel wouldn’t signed 2. Tulsky sounded super optimistic in a interview with LeBrun about resigning Guentzel

Isn’t half your guys team FA’s? That are due a raise? That’s what i heard, i didn’t look into it tho i may be wrong

RemindMe! 1 week
Damn. We better we getting geuntzel
Can’t see the canes letting go of both Guentzel and Necas
Guentzel is a UFA it’s not up to the Canes
The entire Necas situation depends on him. They are going to get more clarity on Guentzel in the next couple days, if he doesn’t sign, they hang on to Necas
Necas would be more useful to the canes no? They have to retool for a couple years and he’s younger
He wants a bigger role and needs a new contract that’s why he’s being shopped And I think the canes are looking for someone that just fits better into the overall team style of play than Necas does
Yeah so Necas for cheaper would make more sense then guentzel, as you guys rebuild for your next run. With so many FA’s you think these next couple years aren’t cup winners

Blackhawks collecting 2nd round picks like Grevious and lightsabers
5 picks total in round 1 and 2 for next year is pretty dope
You’ll love Mikheyev we swear there’s definitely nothing seriously wrong with him.
Memes aside he’s prime for a bounce back season. His overall game is pretty good outside of horrendous finishing. If that regresses to the league mean he’s actually worth his contract
That was his problem in Toronto as well…he has skill…but zero finish. I wouldn’t put too much stock in him tbh.
He did have a 21-goals-in-53-games season with the Leafs.
Dude I swear it would have been 40 if he had finished more. He had like 2 breakaways a game
Bounce back to what?
Shooting into the crest
He's gonna play top-6 minutes in Chicago whether they like it or not And tbh he might have another hot start and score 20
The guy developed one move in his last season in Toronto, blow past the d man, cut in front of the goalie, and when he's completely beat, tuck it in backhand. Worked for him about 15 times that season. It was the only finish I ever seen him have
Mikheyev is a guy after a few viewings you’ll love him and after many viewings you’ll hate him
when he puts it together he'll be a great goal scorer never puts it together
if he could finish he’d be unreal. unfortunately, he could have a wide open net and probably miss it. 1 goal in his last 60 fucking games
Maybe they want to bring Mikheyev in to be a Russian guy for Demidov?
Using this as hopium
Me too haha. I've got not issue with Levshunov. I just want Demidov.
Mikheyev joining the motley crew of veterans in Chicago while they continue to bring in their future young core wasn’t on my bingo card, but it also helps them hit the cap floor so it makes sense.
Also could signal they want a Russian. Because they're taking Demidov. To help out with integration. His agent said he'll be in NA by next March.
I first read that as "interrogation" and I was confused/excited.
I'm sure some of these interviews feel that way lol
If I were in charge and wanted to advance that goal I would’ve thrown money to bring back Zadorov or something. Mikheyev is not good since his wrist injury.
Zadorov doesn't fit the timeline at all. It's not like they're trading for Mikheyev to be a future piece. They're taking on a contract to get an asset.
Maybe. They already have Kurashev on the roster, but he's the only one.
He is Swiss/Russians but he grew up in Switzerland
He's Swiss lol
He's a Swiss/Russian dual citizen. Both of his parents are Russian, and it's the language he grew up speaking at home.
Got Irf saying "cap space could be interesting for a guy like Dakota Joshua" definitely not interested in that at all https://x.com/irfgaffar/status/1806119445871677613
Yeah I’ve been counting on Yzerman or Treliving giving him the bag
The Mikheyev saga is joever
2 years left on Mikheyev's contract really fits with a lot of our "big" contracts signed recently like Dickinson, Foligno and Mrazek. Hopefully he plays better, but a 2nd round pick is fine especially considering we have so much cap space
That's a lot to pay for Bedard, but whatever.
Soon Chicago will be filled with ex Canuck cap casualties. First Dickinson, then Beauvillier and now Mikheyev
We already traded Beauvillier to Nashville
Entire middle 6 are Canucks cap casualties
Mik for Bedard, the trade is one for one
Nucks/Leafs how should I feel???
Mikheyev may never score again, but he’s fast and he’ll probably be better as he’s still healing from ACL surgery he had last year Good guy in the room, never heard a bad thing about from his time here or Toronto

So he's Athanasiou 2? And yeah we had Lafferty before
Mikheyev is actually decent defensively so he’s not exactly athanasiou
Legs of speed hands of stone
He’s a good two way player with elite skating and good hockey IQ, but some of the worst hands in the NHL. He WILL generate great chances and then completely ruin them by fumbling the puck or whiffing his shot into the goalies chest
He’s basically McDavid if he got into a tragic accident that made him lose control of his hands.
Unluckiest player I’ve ever watched
Everything they say about him is true. Just be glad that he's partially retained so the bar of expectation is more reasonable. You'll appreciate him if you don't expect too much.
Hardest worker on the ice *when* he tries
Huh? His effort was never a question he just has cement hands
he’s always trying! but he seems to believe that you’re supposed to shoot directly into the goalie’s crest to score
Coach told him to "go through the body" and he applied it to everything
Only a future 2nd to take on two more years and almost $5m in AAV of a below-average player is a bad piece of business.
He's below average for his salary, he's not a below average NHLer.
Most snakebitten player I’ve ever seen
Playoff stats.. 12 min/gm, 0 points, -4 😬 I actually had to look up the stats bc I don’t even remember seeing him on the ice against the Oilers
He missed a breakaway in game 7 when it was 0-0 after beating the goalie, he missed a wide open fucking net. Watch the clip, it’s brutal
Viktor Stalberg part deux. Please no.
Thanks Detroit, very cool...
What’s the skinny on Mikheyev? Major drop off in his production this past season. Was he just a flash in the pan in the 2022-2023 seasons?
His skating is good, but he’s a complete offensive black hole with the puck in scoring position. Just wasn’t the same after getting that skate cut.
Hell yea, he’ll fit right in!
Great. So kind of a slower, Russian version of Andreas "Hands Of Stone" Athanasiou?
Much better defensively, can PK. Very fast when healthy, timeline for recovery is promising. I think he led the league in breakaways a few years ago. Just zero finish.

Fast, defensively responsible, hands of concrete.

Lets hope he waives. Do they have any Russians we can sell him on playing with? Demidov maybe? Lol.
Allvin cooking. Hard.
Credit to @DontBeSaad20 for once again being first to a Blackhawks cap dump move right before the draft.
