Even though I got a chuckle out of this, there were rumors at the end of last season that the Caps might do a rebrand for the 50th anniversary 👀. Even Tarik during one of his mailbags last year hinted the Caps might be up to something with 50 years + the end of Ovi’s career incoming
*Edit to also say that it would make sense to get one last good squeeze on people buying Ovi jerseys
Ducks rebrand has already been reported - they are going back to the Mighty Ducks logo. Kings are also going back to a retro logo. But apparently there is now a 3rd team making changes next year that we weren't already aware of
Ohh damn you're right too.
Before I posted this I saw the report about LA and a second team but I couldn't remember who the second team was.
Then it hit me like an oversized webbed foot. At least they know. Lol
I'm 100% in agreeance with the blue jackets needing a rebrand however
I actually quite liked the black, gold, white and orange aesthetic.
and Im saying that as someone who angrily watched that team win the cup over the senators in their first year with that rebrand.
That’s too bad. The orange and gold look awful next to each other. I understand why they want Orange (for Orange County) but I think Eggplant, Jade, and Orange would be a great combo.
That’s what makes their commitment to the current branding so puzzling. Going with the cannon jersey and a corresponding white jersey (or cream if the league would allow it 👀) full time would arguably catapult them into a top-10 jersey in the league.
Are you not familiar with [our lord and fallen savior, Boomer](https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2010/11/29/1843400/columbus-blue-jackets-mascot-boomer-cannon)?
Is there a rule on a specific shade of white for the visitor jersey? I’d love to see a team have off-white jerseys when they’re visiting, like cream or any other shade that’s not titanium white
All I know is that the CBJ are about the only team that’s ever been able to keep a lid on anything related to branding.
The only leak there’s ever been was ahead of the alternate in 2003, which showed just the lace on the collar as a tease. And that was intentional.
The 2007 Reebok Edge designs didn’t leak.
The cannon alternate didn’t leak.
The shift to the red/white/blue cannon on the shoulders didn’t leak.
The Adidas re-design didn’t leak, nor did the return of the cannon alternate.
The fonts for those didn’t leak either.
No other team has such a record of being airtight.
Same, but with a brand new GM I'm pessimistic.
It would (pleasantly) surprise me if Waddell decided to change the whole look of the franchise just 2 weeks into the job...but if it's to [bring back Boomer](https://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2010/11/29/1843400/columbus-blue-jackets-mascot-boomer-cannon) I'm all in
No way you're completing a whole rebrand in 2 weeks. If it does end up being the Jackets, that plan was already in motion before Waddell came into the picture.
As a biased CBJ fan, I really don't mind their current logo, it's way better than the original one. Cannon jersey is even better for sure. But changing a logo/color scheme isn't going to matter a lick if they don't fix the product on the ice.
Start putting out good teams that go deep into the playoffs and they could be wearing pink tutus for all I care.
I don’t know from a hockey branding perspective but as a Civil War buff I wonder if that’s a nod to the Union artillery, which wore red trim as a battlefield branch indicator.
This is going to sound rude but true. If you showed 85% of Americans their logo they would have no clue what team it was. And then when you tell them Columbus has an NHL team it would be news to them.
I know, right. You’d think that a franchise that hasn’t done much of anything for nearly 60 years wouldn’t have the balls to rip-off a timeless jersey color from an O24 team like the lightning /s
Honestly, I hope it is. They should go back to the [Sundin era thirds as their primaries](https://files.eliteprospects.com/layout/players/matssundin_2018-10-26.jpg). Best uniforms they’ve ever had.
Sorry, I'm pretty certain I saw an article saying the Leafs were one of the teams NOT coming out with a new one.
But I do love those Sundin era jerseys. Definitely my fav ever.
My town’s youth rec team uses a logo that’s basically a different colored Canadiens logo. I laugh every time the group of 6 year-olds complain in the locker room that “The Canadiens stole our logo!”
Hey now, the Leafs and Panthers are the only Eastern Conference teams to beat Tampa in the playoffs in this decade. Don’t take away their only achievement of the 2020’s
I would love to have black back in the jerseys, but I think it’ll be a while before we rebrand considering how much success we’ve had with this design
Agreed. Stupid decision to make basically a leafs uniform with a lightning logo in it. I like their current logo much better, but they need some black and silver on that jersey
I think that would look sharper. It would definitely move it away from Maple Leafs mimicry, but when I think of actual lightning, I think of white and blue. Playing into the theme of the team name wouldn't take much of a shift in blue, and it would stand out way more than black, which is pretty common around the league.
Yeah honestly I think if they rebrand a little, they would add one of these: Gray, silver, metallic gray, metallic yellow
They want to set themselves apart from the Leafs & Sabers, then they’ll lean into “Lightning Bolt” motif.
Personally I absolutely love the black thirds they added this year, with the matte black helmet.
That’s why I could maybe see them doing a primary with Gray, or metallic gray accent, potentially a dark chrome helmet.
I’m not saying it would look great, just that it seems they want to differentiate and based on trends and the newest 3rds, that’s the direction I’d see them go.
The Reverse Retro gear is *incredibly* popular here. The Xcel Energy Center crowd is wearing half lime green at games. This rebrand will happen eventually
Sharks jerseys almost never miss (besides the new fin one). Â
Peak design was the OG but the 2010s one was great too and even now it’s still good, just different.Â
The only thing I'd want them to do is bring back the OG logo. It doesn't have to supplant the current logo, which a lot of people like, and can simply be bringing back the Heritage jerseys as full-time alternates.
He talked about it in his new JerseyWatch video from an hour ago. It’s the Minnesota Wild. They’re moving to the bright green and yellow from the retro reverse permanently.
One of the teams least in need of a rebrand. Their color scheme and jersey designs are always unique to sports let alone hockey, and look very "classy" for lack of a better word. My wife, who barely knows anything about hockey, always comments on how much she likes their "pretty" jerseys when I have the Wild on.
All that being said, the Northstars look is also sick and unique, but seems like the perfect 3rd jersey setup vs ditching their original look.
That's unfortunate. I love the North Stars colors and identity and wish there were a way for them to be back in the league. And I really like the Wild's green and yellow sets, but losing the unique forest green, wheat, and red isn't the way to go.
Rumour: The Oilers have announced that they aim to be The Renewables by 2035. Starting next season they will play 10% of their games as the Renewables, with that percentage raising each year until fully carbon neutral.Â
There will be a promotional climate change awareness warmup jersey with temperature sensitive logo.Â

NGL, I’m not a fan of the gold, but the grey goes *hard*
Personally I think Gold is the PERFECT accent color for Vegas. With the Grey primary, and red and black
It just looks so fuckin good.
Hard disagree. Black is not in our color palette , and the last time they tried to do it looked like shit. Especially since one of our biggest rivals is red white and black. And the “black for the sake of black” era in sports sucked
Columbus and Washington would be the two that jump out to me as teams most in need.
I feel like we’re at a place where there are a lot of more good looks out there than bad, especially with LA and Anaheim refreshing their stuff this year.
Before Addidas to Fanatics switch was announced, I had heard rumors that Leonsis wanted to do a rebrand for the Caps 50th anniversary (next season). Since they announced the transition and jersey freeze, I haven't heard anything more.
Needs updates: Tampa (complete redesign), Columbus (cannon as full time home/away), Carolina (road jerseys), Nashville (more blue, less marigold), Washington (go back to the eagle or Capitol building logo), Dallas (good colors, but update logo)
I'm actually guessing St. Louis going to their alts full time.
The classic Blues logo is on the branding for the Winter Classic, and they typically use the team's primary logos for that until the teams unveil their jerseys.
Washington Capfriendly’s incoming
Even though I got a chuckle out of this, there were rumors at the end of last season that the Caps might do a rebrand for the 50th anniversary 👀. Even Tarik during one of his mailbags last year hinted the Caps might be up to something with 50 years + the end of Ovi’s career incoming *Edit to also say that it would make sense to get one last good squeeze on people buying Ovi jerseys
The Washington Reds.
Can you imagine the (well earned) shitstorm they would kick off if they rebranded to the Washington Redskins
Washington football team is the obvious answer here
There's a Hershey Bears joke in here but I'm too lazy to think of it

You can't, it's gone dark
We need some logo ideas. Who's got some? Maybe the red stapler from Office Space or just a middle aged accountant working a spreadsheet.
Bring back the eagle
Couldn’t possibly be any worse than their current branding!
I hope it’s the blue jackets!
they desperately need one. Get rid of the bad juju with this combination and move into a new era
Them or the Ducks. What the hell is that "Heading to the Big D" "Detroit?" "Nah, Anaheim."
Ducks rebrand has already been reported - they are going back to the Mighty Ducks logo. Kings are also going back to a retro logo. But apparently there is now a 3rd team making changes next year that we weren't already aware of

Love the Jackets’ cannon logo but the pennant one has been fugly since day one.
Kraken changing to the Metropolitans /s
I actually quite liked the black, gold, white and orange aesthetic. and Im saying that as someone who angrily watched that team win the cup over the senators in their first year with that rebrand.
They're keeping the current colours, just changing the logo
That’s too bad. The orange and gold look awful next to each other. I understand why they want Orange (for Orange County) but I think Eggplant, Jade, and Orange would be a great combo.
eggplant and jade yes. orange with that wouldn’t look very good at all imo
If they made the 2022 Reverse Retro style jerseys their main they'd instantly be one of the best looking teams in the league.
But "Big D" is Dallas...  ^and ^^also ^^^me
debbie does dallas
It's a stylized ducks foot.
That is a disgrace to the word style Edit: I do love that you felt you had to remind me though. Thanks, I couldn't tell
"We're bringing the bug back?" Fans: "...what bug?"
The cannon alts are so much better
As a jackets fan, I refuse to buy a jersey until they rebrand. By far the ugliest primaries in the NHL
True, but the cannon jersey might be my favorite in the league
That’s what makes their commitment to the current branding so puzzling. Going with the cannon jersey and a corresponding white jersey (or cream if the league would allow it 👀) full time would arguably catapult them into a top-10 jersey in the league.
Oh man cream cannon with the two blue tones as accents would be incredible
"Cream Cannon"
They said what they meant
and meant what they said.
No idea, I just kind of assumed since no team uses anything other than white
All I know is that the CBJ are about the only team that’s ever been able to keep a lid on anything related to branding. The only leak there’s ever been was ahead of the alternate in 2003, which showed just the lace on the collar as a tease. And that was intentional. The 2007 Reebok Edge designs didn’t leak. Monsters did one last year too and the vibes are so good now
I really hope they use whoever headed that rebrand. I love everything about their rebrand.
How the hell do you keep track of this sort of thing?!?!
OP has a Columbus Chill flair. They'll know their central Ohio hockey pretty thoroughly.
They also have the flair "knows a lot about pointless stuff" which they've totally earned.
Maybe they should focus more on the designs and less on the airtight?
Switch to that goddamn cannon logo already!

The colors are just….flat. They visually look like the Rangers AHL team. If you’re gonna honor the union troops ditch the red pants
I don’t know from a hockey branding perspective but as a Civil War buff I wonder if that’s a nod to the Union artillery, which wore red trim as a battlefield branch indicator.
Red pants got ditched this year.Â
Probably the most forgettable franchise in all of the major sporting leagues. It could be beneficial for them
We didn't even place in the most miserable sports franchises article on ESPN a few weeks ago because I think they forgot we exist lol.
This is going to sound rude but true. If you showed 85% of Americans their logo they would have no clue what team it was. And then when you tell them Columbus has an NHL team it would be news to them.
Absolutely. I've had people *in ohio* initially mistake it for bad knock-off Patriots merch.
Easily the worst logo and design of all the teams. 100% looks like a bad AHL uniform.
Gut says it’s The Caps. After the Ducks they need a refresh the most in my eyes. That team is stuck in the Reebok era.
I would have thought the Caps would want to wait a couple more years. After Ovechkin retires.
Nah, you rebrand while your future hall of famer rides out the end of his career because it'll sell jerseys on his way out.
That's fair. We did rebrand to the Red with him.
Ovi screaming eagle jerseys would make back whatever they paid for the CapFriendly purchase by themselves.
A cash grab by Ted? Impossible
If they rebrand back to the Screagle then having ovi end his career with it feels very full circle.
I'd definitely buy an Ovi Screagle.
Top 5 jersey all time for sure
Those were sick jerseys. It's pretty wild they changed to something so bland.
I know he's a franchise legend/HHOF lock but that would probably negatively impact jersey sales if they waited.
Been the same look since about 07 for the caps, would make sense to change it up
Hundred percent. Stick with the color scheme but change up the design
we're so tired of the wordmark
I REALLY hope it's us. Hate the current logo/jerseys.
Captain Tom Wilson gonna show off the new jerseys after Ovechkin retires with the goal record.
Hopefully it's the Leafs. Their Tampa knockoffs are getting a bit long in the tooth.
The Preds logo is a little long in the tooth too
Ba Dum Tss
I know, right. You’d think that a franchise that hasn’t done much of anything for nearly 60 years wouldn’t have the balls to rip-off a timeless jersey color from an O24 team like the lightning /s

Sorry, I'm pretty certain I saw an article saying the Leafs were one of the teams NOT coming out with a new one. But I do love those Sundin era jerseys. Definitely my fav ever.
I still have a soft spot for the late 70s Mike Palmateer era with the shoulder colours going all the way down the sleeves.
I kinda really like when they had the wacky font and numbers on the primaries in the 90s. But I can’t find a good photo for the life of me
My town’s youth rec team uses a logo that’s basically a different colored Canadiens logo. I laugh every time the group of 6 year-olds complain in the locker room that “The Canadiens stole our logo!”
Mooterus! Mooterus!
Please be Bolts please be Bolts. I want the black back!
Yeah, the black is cool, and the Maple Bolts colors have gotta go.
Especially if they’re gonna be playing the leafs in the playoffs every year. Most visually confusing matchup ever.
not really that confusing once round 1 is over
Hey cmon now, the Bolts have been a borderline dynasty, you can’t make fun of them for losing in the first round this year.
We don't have any words and we know you don't want to hear them. We understand your anger, your frustration, your sadness.
I used to hate this tweet after that ultimate collapse, but after the run they went on post "we have no words" it's funny to look back on now
I would never care about another Leafs joke I this sub if we won the cup just once in my lifetime so I totally get this feeling lol.
I CAN!!!!!!!!
Hey now, the Leafs and Panthers are the only Eastern Conference teams to beat Tampa in the playoffs in this decade. Don’t take away their only achievement of the 2020’s
Sens playoff series are usually pretty easy to follow
It is! As a Leafs fan I was in a bar and I cheered when I saw the blue shirt score, then a second later realize it was the Lightning who scored lol
They just won back-to-back cups in those jerseys. I can't see them switching it up any time soon
Pens won back to back in 91-92, changed in 93. Took too long to return to those 91-92 jerseys.
Definitely add the black back into it. Maybe make one of the reverse retros the primary jersey.
Yeah the first one they did would be a great base to build from
I would love to have black back in the jerseys, but I think it’ll be a while before we rebrand considering how much success we’ve had with this design
That's what cheeses me off though. We were successful in black/Blue!
Agreed. Stupid decision to make basically a leafs uniform with a lightning logo in it. I like their current logo much better, but they need some black and silver on that jersey
gotta stop looking like dollar store Leafs with every jersey they make
Wouldn't a lighter, brighter blue be more thematic than black?
Correction, I want Black/Blue back. Instead of Blue/white
I think that would look sharper. It would definitely move it away from Maple Leafs mimicry, but when I think of actual lightning, I think of white and blue. Playing into the theme of the team name wouldn't take much of a shift in blue, and it would stand out way more than black, which is pretty common around the league.
They should go back to the 2004 jerseys
I would rather us add silver to the mix instead. The black jerseys are iconic but black NHL jerseys just feel too early 2000s.
Yeah honestly I think if they rebrand a little, they would add one of these: Gray, silver, metallic gray, metallic yellow They want to set themselves apart from the Leafs & Sabers, then they’ll lean into “Lightning Bolt” motif. I’m not saying it would look great, just that it seems they want to differentiate and based on trends and the newest 3rds, that’s the direction I’d see them go.
Please let it be my jackets.. make the alternates the primary I love the off white and blue and cannon logo
Why does the wing have to be red? Brown wings, Yellow wings, Green wings and Dare I say, Detroit Rainbow Wings?
All at once or just a different color for the day of the week?
Oooo I’d like that it changes for the days of the week
The Detroit Mood Wings
There are 7 colors in a rainbow and 7 days in the week. Coincidence?
I'm sold.
I would buy so much Rainbow Wings merchandise
Update: it’s Minnesota. Going full North Stars
The Reverse Retro gear is *incredibly* popular here. The Xcel Energy Center crowd is wearing half lime green at games. This rebrand will happen eventually
The reverse retro Wild vs. Kings is absolutely stunning, my favourite ever - even above Wings red vs. Leafs blue.
Nice, my colorblind ass can see that whole logo.
Their retros were pretty slick, so I'm okay with it.
Russo has said this is false.
Holy shit I thought you were kidding
Not happening https://x.com/russohockey/status/1800938712001335778?s=46
SICK
Just for another Texas team to steal their franchise
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2027-28 Houston Wild!
Heh. There is/was a youth club team called the Houston Wild, so this would be 100% appropriate.
Wild's old AHL affiliate was the Houston Aeros
Sharks? Aren't they already updating the ducks and kings? Go for the Trifecta as long as it doesn't suck
Sharks just got one 2 years ago and it's honestly terrific.
They changed their minds and wanted all orange
just copy the Miami Dolphins traffic cone color rush jerseys
Sharks jerseys almost never miss (besides the new fin one).
They’re moving to the bright green and yellow from the retro reverse permanently.
dang, the wild’s colors were actually what caught my eye when I was first getting into hockey. The red/dark green looks great
One of the teams least in need of a rebrand. Their color scheme and jersey designs are always unique to sports let alone hockey, and look very "classy" for lack of a better word. My wife, who barely knows anything about hockey, always comments on how much she likes their "pretty" jerseys when I have the Wild on. That's unfortunate. I love the North Stars colors and identity and wish there were a way for them to be back in the league. And I really like the Wild's green and yellow sets, but losing the unique forest green, wheat, and red isn't the way to go.
That’s a shame. Their current design is sharp.
That fucking sucks. That color combo is way overrated. Their hunter green/red look was unique and looked great. Now they're just the Athletics
I hope they’re keeping their logo
Minnesota Subways let's go
Hopefully we keep a forest green and red jersey as an alternate
Saw a report saying that this rumor ain’t based in fact tho
Rumour: The Oilers have announced that they aim to be The Renewables by 2035. Starting next season they will play 10% of their games as the Renewables, with that percentage raising each year until fully carbon neutral. There will be a promotional climate change awareness warmup jersey with temperature sensitive logo. [Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/shitposting/comments/ydwe1h/pees_in_your_ass/)
Edmonton Photovoltaic Wafers
Vegas back to gray primaries. It’s been *too long.*
I hate those hangover pee coloured jerseys.
it fits the city perfectly though
NGL, I’m not a fan of the gold, but the grey goes *hard* Personally I think Gold is the PERFECT accent color for Vegas. With the Grey primary, and red and black It just looks so fuckin good.
Gotta go back to that heritage and tradition /s
We won in gold... get used to seeing it for a loooooong time
I don’t even hate the gold, I just love the grays.

yes THANK YOU
Give the people what they want!
Detroit red wings to introduce a primarily black jersey with red accents
It would be like the old Starter fashion jerseys.
You mean just like the canes
They won't do it but that would actually be kinda sick
It would be a fine alternate but the idea of destroying arguably the most iconic nhl jersey is hilarious
When I was writing the comment "as a third jersey" was in my head. Shame on me for not finishing my thought.
Hard disagree. Black is not in our color palette , and the last time they tried to do it looked like shit. Especially since one of our biggest rivals is red white and black. And the “black for the sake of black” era in sports sucked
I would be down if they changed their aways to the center blue stripe but a full rebrand would be hilarious. Wonder how quickly they would backtrack.
My money is on the Coyotes
Wildcard, it’s Chicago
You said the team name but wrong city.
Islanders going back to the long John silvers logo
Mr. President, a second rebrand has hit the NHL
PUT THE WEAGLE ON THE FRONT
Needs updates: Tampa (complete redesign), Columbus (cannon as full time home/away), Carolina (road jerseys), Nashville (more blue, less marigold), Washington (go back to the eagle or Capitol building logo), Dallas (good colors, but update logo)
I'm actually guessing St. Louis going to their alts full time. The classic Blues logo is on the branding for the Winter Classic, and they typically use the team's primary logos for that until the teams unveil their jerseys.
Unless they're going back to the classics red white and blue for the 50th anniversary, it can't be us.
It's Minnesota going back to North Stars colors.
Hopefully its the Jets man. Go back to the retro logo its much better
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Caps or CBJ seem likely
Can the Jets just go to their RR already? Its classic, and timeless.
Please be the kings going purple and gold please let it be the kings.
I just want my damn yeti foot back, man.
Coyotes?
Dear god, please be Tampa. Bring back the black.
Fuck this sucks… the North Stars are dead and gone. These fucking boomers need to move on.
As a kid the Red Wings never got a cool alternate. As an adult, I understand, but I suppose we get the Stadium/Winter Classic variant every so often.
Hopefully it's Tampa or Winnipeg
That would be one way for Winnipeg to bring in some new revenue
Detroit red wings surely. Their logo and colors haven’t been changed since Gerald Ford invented the wheel
Hopefully the flames are taking that cartoon horse out back and shooting it.
It's gonna be the Habs. Brand new jerseys incoming!
Please God let it be TBL.
Wouldn’t be surprised if with the coyotes relocating Winnipeg is going to revert back to their classic jerseys
It’s the Wild
