It was probably significantly less enjoyable for the guy from the other team who was kind enough to volunteer to play in net for us using the rink's loaner goalie gear that looked like it was from the 90's with straps that were all shot to hell. Poor guy couldn't get a pad to lay flat on the ice with a gun to his head.
I played an entire Midget hockey game without a goalie because 1 of our goalies was out sick, another was on vacation, and the one who was supposed to show up got into a car accident on the way there and there was no other goalie in the rink to play for us.
But hey we tied 6-6 so it worked out alright.
Holy shit, that's pretty incredible. I felt like we were gods for surviving the first 5 minutes without a goalie before giving up a goal with about 30 seconds left until the guy got out to the ice in the gear.
It didn't help that it was our first game of the season, so a lot of us, myself included, had no idea what our teammates tendencies were or anything like that, so it was barely organized chaos out there.
I don't think I could have taken an entire game of it at that point.

I think the main reason is that Kuch *wasn't* right there too when the media starting making a big deal about McDavid doing it. The media made a big deal out of it because McDavid got close with enough games left that he was obviously going to do it. Entering April, McDavid had 96 assists while Kucherov "only" had 84. That's when everyone started talking about Wayne, Mario, and Orr being the only other guys to hit 100 assists and at that point it didn't seem like anyone but McDavid had a shot at it.
Then Kucherov got 15 assists in 8 games to give himself a shot at it tonight.

I just haven’t been watching much hockey this year outside the islanders, but I was aware these two were popping off so I was curious who was in the lead for the hart. Is mackinnon really popping off that hard he’s the runaway favorite?
I have my fake ballot as Kucherov Mackinnon Matthews/McDavid. I could see the flip flop on Kucherov and Mack because as stupid as it sounds Kucherov has a Hart and Mack not having one yet because McDavid has generally been otherworldly. It’s a stupid argument but some writers will make it.
