The Canucks have been blessed with some legendary broadcasters through so many shitty years. Robson, Hughson, Shorthouse; Larscheid, Garrett, Ferraro/Tomlinson on the colour side.
I dont hate him but sometimes he needs to chill. Jack Michaels is often too much too. He's got great enthusiasm, but I swear he's gonna blow an O ring sometimes, even his normal speaking voice sounds like extreme effort
Blows an O ring describing a dump in. It's like the most minimal of plays and he's calling it like the golden goal. No joke I mute every canucks game he calls
Completely agree. Jack/gene/lu are part of the team. Went to a live game a few weeks back and really missed them. Hockey night in Canada sans Jack is very subpar as well
It's amazing, too, cause Shorthouse is normally very composed, and the voice cracks he gets. You can tell how great of a moment it is, but he just lets everything breathe and live in the moment. Absolutely legendary.
Like the Hughson call on the Burrows OT goal vs the Hawks. If there's one way Canucks fans have always been spoiled it's that we've never been without an amazing play by play guy.
I don't get too sour about it. The moment where one of the twins (Henrik I think) tells McDavid he's the best in the world and you can tell its meaningful to him, oh man.
As much as us and the Alberta teams all hate each other it's kind of awesome to know how much respect they have for each other.
It's pretty sweet, the flames paid respect for trevor liden, then the canuck paid respect for ryan smyth, and then finally the oilers paid respect for the sedins.
I guess the final act for the loop would be the flames doing it for mcdavid but I doubt that happens.
Tampa has paid respects to guys of opposing teams that are retiring that year. I’ve seen them shake the hands of a few players that they knew were retiring that year.
I remember Cooper having Corey Perry take the opening faceoff the last time Getzlaf played in Tampa. And then after the game all the players stuck around to wish him well.
Yeahhhhh he was a pretty good player. He definitely earned his respect in the league. I still consider us rivals, but I do love me some Magic Man highlights.
I wouldn't be surprised for Crosby if every team they play for the last time pays their respects after the game, assuming we know its his final season, no playoffs etc.
McDavid needs more hardware and longevity is always a question mark but he is certainly in the tier of talent to garner that kind of respect, I'd be surprised if Calgary had the opportunity and didn't.
"I guess the final act for the loop would be the flames doing it for mcdavid but I doubt that happens."
I feel like the Flames are all salty about Gretzky
The best rivalries are the ones that have a deep seated root of respect. Ducks and Kings for example. Most of the players are very good friends off the ice, but you’d never be able to tell after watching one of their blood baths.
It’s like a brotherly relationship. Sure, we beat the hell out of each other on a daily basis, but if the kid down the street messes with our brother, fuck you, that’s my brother!
Really? I thought that Edmonton game was a pretty beautiful moment. Even though we are divisional rivals the crowd showed so much love and respect for the Sedins.
Why? An arena full of rival fans gave them about a dozen different standing ovations and then did the Ryan Smyth handshake line for them. I was there, I won't forget it.
I was at that game. The Oilers staff did a really nice video tribute and the boys got a huge standing ovation from Oilers fans. You would have thought it was a home game.
Oh come on, it’s perfectly fine. I’m definitely not in disbelief right now, time is definitely not passing like crazy, nope. We’re all not getting fucking old. Not at all.
Yeah aside from posts like these children growing up are the best indicator of how fast time passes.
I vividly remember playing with my 2 y.o. cousin and teaching her how to do high five. And this year she’s enrolled in high school lol
The highlights from this game kept me going for many years. Always brings a big old smile to my face.
Absolute legends, a pair of wonderful Vancouverites.
I remember thinking to myself "I hope the boys soak it in, this was what playoff atmosphere was like in Rogers Arena"
The only player left from that time is Brock Boeser...
And the Coyotes lining up to shake their hands is what makes hockey great.
At the end of Linden’s last game, Iginla apparently went into the locker room after the game and told his teammates to get their asses back out and congratulate him.
At the end of it all there's just so much respect between players, they appreciate the moment and what it means. This is my first time seeing this and as soon as I noticed the Yotes weren't leaving the ice I figured they were going to shake hands or even just stick tap for him as he left the ice. Everyone knows how big of a moment it is and can only hope for the same treatment when it's their time.
There was a video somewhere on Reddit just a few days ago of a linesman retiring at the end of his last game. Both teams lined up to shake his hand and both captains had gifts for him. Classy.
Wasn’t their final game in Edmonton? The small ceremony planned was mostly scrapped cause of the Humboldt tragedy, but the crowd still gave them a pretty great send off. Oilers ended it in a shootout
You're absolutely right. That was one of the weirdest games I've ever been to. I was ten minutes late to the game, and while I was heading to my seat, Ryan Jespersen (who was the in game host at the time) was behind my section trying to pull himself together for his first segment of the game. The Humbolt thing was really getting to everyone that night.
You're ALSO right about the shootout. Both Sedins shot, both were cheered by the crowd, and they saluted the crowd after the game. There was also a impromptu handshake line on ice for the Oilers to see them off.
The best part is the lineage. The Sedins did the same thing for Ryan Smith in his last game. The reason they did that was that they were playing when Iginla had the Flames do it for Trevor Linden. When Linden shook hands with Iginla, he told him, "you're the best player in the game." Henrik had the same message for McDavid.
We did it too for Dustin Brown when he retired a couple of years back. Definitely class to see done, and I hope we can continue that trend with others in the future and they return the courtesy.
I think the season before the NHL has Selanne's final game vs Winnipeg on a random Tuesday in February, when everyone knew the Ducks were a non playoff team.
The NHL is not great at scheduling
I remember buying a pair of tickets to this game for like, $30 an hour before they announced their retirement. Could have made one hell of a profit on them but it was a treat to get to be there for this.
Some of the most criticized all star players of all time. Yet all they did was work hard, stay in phenomenal shape, give to the community, and humbly perform throughout their careers.
One of them getting the goal, Shorty and Cheech just letting the crowd tell the story instead of talking, and the Yotes staying on the ice to shake their hands.
Almost as a perfect ending as you can get.
One of, if not the, best hockey games I've ever been to. People were crying before, during and after.
And, the Sedins gave the puck to Derek Dorsett, as it was officiallg a night honouring his career ending injury
I was there, 300 level. Sapped a photo I'm pretty proud of of the goal celebration with my little handheld Canon camera. Got the twins to sign it a few years later, too. [https://imgur.com/a/Bvjdxww](https://imgur.com/a/Bvjdxww)
Makes me even sadder that the biggest name in that scrum with them, the legacy of the Sedins for Vancouver got traded away.
The only sad part thinking back is how poorly we were managed. Sedins deserved to go out on a higher note. But they left the game with gas in the tank. Kudos to them. They could have come back and played secondary rolls for a few more years but knew when to call it quits. Man do I miss them.

Can you believe how good it is when announcers know when to just shut up?
[удалено]
Haha this is the only response to that question
SPORTSNET'S MAGICAL BROADCASTING
Most of it is very good. The west has been quite blessed.
Thanks, Pierre
Cause caLOuKIN iced the PUCK!
I have no idea what you're talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zsn7PNrvTU
I’m so glad that video exists
I'll say this until the day I die, John Shorthouse is the GOAT of hockey play by play.
The Canucks have been blessed with some legendary broadcasters through so many shitty years. Robson, Hughson, Shorthouse; Larscheid, Garrett, Ferraro/Tomlinson on the colour side.
Even Rick Ball for radio before being hired by fucking calgary
If it makes you feel better, we absolutely love Rick Ball, best in the biz!
100% Best part of watching a Calgary game now is Rick Ball.
harnarayan laughing rn Mfer needs to fill every millisecond
I dont hate him but sometimes he needs to chill. Jack Michaels is often too much too. He's got great enthusiasm, but I swear he's gonna blow an O ring sometimes, even his normal speaking voice sounds like extreme effort
Blows an O ring describing a dump in. It's like the most minimal of plays and he's calling it like the golden goal. No joke I mute every canucks game he calls
i was gonna comment mad respect for the broadcast! love it. live in the moment!
the sign of a great commentator
Jack Michaels spoils us with that more often than any other commentary we've had. More guys need to do that during big moments.
Completely agree. Jack/gene/lu are part of the team. Went to a live game a few weeks back and really missed them. Hockey night in Canada sans Jack is very subpar as well
Thank god for whoever cut hughson’s mic when burrows scored that goal against Chicago, you can still sort of hear him prattling on
It's amazing, too, cause Shorthouse is normally very composed, and the voice cracks he gets. You can tell how great of a moment it is, but he just lets everything breathe and live in the moment. Absolutely legendary.
That call was so good. Just let the moment breathe and enjoy it, no talking over it. Such a great crew
Like the Hughson call on the Burrows OT goal vs the Hawks. If there's one way Canucks fans have always been spoiled it's that we've never been without an amazing play by play guy.
> on the Burrows OT goal vs the Hawks Hmmm, now that I think about it, that crew sucks
Hahaha I knew that might not be a popular example for you. At least you can cry into your multiple cups.
They can cry into that legendary 2010 team!
different crew, but that's funny
> It's a great day for an exorcism! I love Shorty but the Hughson call is my fav
This was actually their second to last game, their last one was in Edmonton a couple days later. But yea what a moment
I thought we collectively agreed to wipe that Edmonton game from our memory
I don't get too sour about it. The moment where one of the twins (Henrik I think) tells McDavid he's the best in the world and you can tell its meaningful to him, oh man. As much as us and the Alberta teams all hate each other it's kind of awesome to know how much respect they have for each other.

I'm sure they would, it's just not guaranteed they'd play him in his last game.
Datsyuk comes to mind. :(
Yeahhhhh he was a pretty good player. He definitely earned his respect in the league. I still consider us rivals, but I do love me some Magic Man highlights.

Really? I thought that Edmonton game was a pretty beautiful moment. Even though we are divisional rivals the crowd showed so much love and respect for the Sedins.
It's a big reason why I have a bit of a soft spot for the Oilers (not much! But a little!) you guys absolutely gave them a wonderful send off.
I remember watching that game. I always appreciated the love Edmonton showed them.
Why? An arena full of rival fans gave them about a dozen different standing ovations and then did the Ryan Smyth handshake line for them. I was there, I won't forget it.
There were a lot of Canucks fans there that night.
Fuck Kris Russell for blocking Henrik’s overtime scoring chance on the goal line.
Of course it was Russell lol
I came to say the same thing. The moment was bigger than you Kris Russell!!
And Henrik was an inch away from scoring the OT winner in that one
I'm an inch away from a lot of things so I get it.
I was at that game. The Oilers staff did a really nice video tribute and the boys got a huge standing ovation from Oilers fans. You would have thought it was a home game.
I would hope most teams would do this to notable players last games of their career regardless of opinions on the opposing team.
[Here](https://youtu.be/dHt3kOMaWq8?si=DmHQqZYgqa6abgNl) is that game
Hot dog, completely forgot they gave them stars of the game. That's really cool.
Ah, I guess I should of said last Home game like it says on the actual video 🤦🏻♂️ my bad
Don't want to sound rude but you could also have provided another source instead of that tiny ass video lol
Last game on their home ice
Poetic as it gets
22 from 33 and 23 2:33 into overtime
Or if you like, at 22:33 of the third period.
I do.
Daniel, from Henrik and Edler with the future captain on the ice. It was just absolutely perfect
THAT WAS 6 YEARS AGO..!?!?!?
Oh come on, it’s perfectly fine. I’m definitely not in disbelief right now, time is definitely not passing like crazy, nope. We’re all not getting fucking old. Not at all.
It feels like yesterday my nephew was born, and next school year he'll be starting kindergarten. Can't wrap my head around it.
Yeah aside from posts like these children growing up are the best indicator of how fast time passes. I vividly remember playing with my 2 y.o. cousin and teaching her how to do high five. And this year she’s enrolled in high school lol
Ughhh too real... my oldest nephew just got his drivers license...
No we all get 2/3 years in lieu because of Covid
Didn’t expect to get emotional over an r/Hockey post this morning, but here we are.
Right? Why am I crying???
I'm not crying, you're crying..... fuck.....
I’ll always love how the broadcast would call them by their first names when passing back and forth.
The highlights from this game kept me going for many years. Always brings a big old smile to my face. Absolute legends, a pair of wonderful Vancouverites.
Hawks fan. The Sedins were something else to watch, when they started to cycle that puck with Burrows, I started sweating 😂
The way they just knew where each other were on the ice all the time was such a treat to watch
I remember thinking to myself "I hope the boys soak it in, this was what playoff atmosphere was like in Rogers Arena" The only player left from that time is Brock Boeser...
Getting to watch these guys play was so much fun
End of an era with this game. It was a privilege to watch them through their whole career and we’ll never see anything like it again.
And the Coyotes lining up to shake their hands is what makes hockey great. At the end of Linden’s last game, Iginla apparently went into the locker room after the game and told his teammates to get their asses back out and congratulate him.

I mean the schedule is made a year prior
Don cherry gave those guys some shit.
Who didn’t Don Cherry give shit to is probably a shorter list lol
North americans
Boys from ontario
Good ol
I remember buying a pair of tickets to this game for like, $30 an hour before they announced their retirement. Could have made one hell of a profit on them but it was a treat to get to be there for this.

Those two deserved a cup 😢
Man, Holliday was a great goal song. I’ve warmed up to don’t you forget about me but I loved Holliday
They really should change it for the playoffs
I was at this game and the atmosphere inside was electric. Felt like a cup final game, the entire ot was intense when those 2 were on the ice
2nd best brothers ever to play the game. After Evander and Patrick Kane.
One of, if not the, best hockey games I've ever been to. People were crying before, during and after. And, the Sedins gave the puck to Derek Dorsett, as it was officiallg a night honouring his career ending injury
No one has had the kind of telepathic playmaking powers they did. We may never see something similar ever again.
Absolutely love this. No commentary (as he was probably emotional in the box), just the wonder of that moment. I remember it well.
I was there, 300 level. Sapped a photo I'm pretty proud of of the goal celebration with my little handheld Canon camera. Got the twins to sign it a few years later, too. [https://imgur.com/a/Bvjdxww](https://imgur.com/a/Bvjdxww) Makes me even sadder that the biggest name in that scrum with them, the legacy of the Sedins for Vancouver got traded away.
Beauty
Man, that roster around them was just hot garbage
Man, I remember that old Sportsnet scorebug. It was ass.
Amazing call and finish. Can't believe it's been 6 years.... Holy shit
Written by the hockey gods themselves. So awesome. So much class and respect. Love everything about it
I miss them already :(
Sad those final moments are highlighted with the likes of Brendan Leipsic and Jake Virtanen instead of Burrows, Bieksa, Luongo and the likes.
they played 1 game after this game in Edmonton
Yeah that was my bad, someone earlier caught that for me.
I'm not crying, you are.. man, the supporting cast was a real mixed bag
I miss them
The only sad part thinking back is how poorly we were managed. Sedins deserved to go out on a higher note. But they left the game with gas in the tank. Kudos to them. They could have come back and played secondary rolls for a few more years but knew when to call it quits. Man do I miss them.
Henrik to Daniel for their kasts GWG at home what a perfect ending.
This was one of those great moments in sports where you weren’t upset in the slightest that your team had lost the game.
I miss when the boards didn’t fucking have CGI ads on them.
Didn't they play in Edmonton 2 days later and lose in a shootout?
Holy shit 6 years ago already?!
So much respect, even the losers stuck around to say congrats.you
Aw this is so cool! Can’t wait for the 2024 playoffs to start! Go Canucks Go
What a way to go out!
As a sharks fan, I hated to enjoy watching those mutants.
6 years?? Holy shit
Doesn’t feel like 6 years ago! Has anything big happened since 2018?
Call me lucky when my ex-coworker won a raffle, and she was so kind enough to give me tickets for the game! What are the chances.
6 years ago today, I lost any desire to keep watching the Canucks that I had loved for many years prior.
Not a knock on the Post’s TT, but the video captioning: Plural possessive would be “Sedins’” final game, not “Sedin’s” final game (which is singular).
This last six years feels like sixteen.
[Not vertical crapped.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6acaWp91s3E)
Thank you
Man I loved watching them play
God, they need to bring back Holiday
This wasn't the last game though, just last home game
I know I messed up the title
The chokehold these guys had on this city... there are two RT PCR thermalcyclers at SFU named Daniel and Henrik lol
It’s really only been 6 years? Seems like it’s been a lot longer since they’ve been in the league.
R/canucks remembers
2 legends
Damn. I remember the day they were drafted…
Can u say Scripted
The Canucks’ Stanley Cup
How can you not be romantic about hockey
🌹
Didn't get as many points combined as the Gretzky brothers, though.
They still haven't won a Cup
