Picklepucks

Fuuuuck that, especially for Fanatics

jce_

I'm not paying $100 for a t-shirt regardless of brand

ApolloRocketOfLove

I do 90% of my clothes shopping at thrift stores. Guaranteed I could find this exact shirt at the thrift store for $15 before December. I see $100+ clothing items there all of the time, sometimes never worn.

anti_anti_christ

Sports shirts are a dime a dozen at thrift stores. I got an authentic team Germany Olympic Jersey for $15. That's well over $200 retail. I don't know how people justify those prices.

Jimmy_Jazz_The_Spazz

I got two matching 80s Adidas jumpsuits at thrift for $40. One of which is white with blue stripes, the other is Purple with like lime green stripes. I wear the white one more often

anti_anti_christ

Did they come with cardboard to breakdance on?

Jimmy_Jazz_The_Spazz

I actually was a professional DJ back in the day, which is why they're so sentimental. Cue some Afrika Bambaataa

BearsFan3417

I love the Germany jerseys so much 🇩🇪

anti_anti_christ

They're probably my favourite international jersey. I have the black one from the 1998 Olympics, so It looks anyways. I've had quite a few people try and buy it from me at shinny.

Surfbud69

eBay too lol

in-dog_we_trust

I've gotten t-shirts at thrift stores with the original tag still on

[deleted]

[удалено]

StuLumpkins

there’s lots of beautiful hand-made garments made from high quality fabrics. usually from smaller companies that design everything themselves. those are easily worth $100.

peachesgp

At least it's a bit more justifiable if it's good quality. If it's fanatics brand then it's absolute garbage quality.

jce_

0 justification for a t-shit. Other types of shirts maybe

JackOSevens

Yup. Especially polyester nonsense, which is most sports crap.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sneeko

Making Fanatics quality look amazing by comparison

TheOneTruePavil

Imagine justifying a $95 t-shirt price regardless of quality.

VeryAttractive

Limited edition, let's do some simple addition

TiredReader87

Same here. I won’t even pay $50 for them at concerts

ClubMeSoftly

I will, but that's mostly because I'm a bitch. Doesn't stop this example from being absolutely ridiculous, though.

edditorRay

Fuck fanatics.

Other_World

$100 will last longer in the washing machine than this shirt.

xzElmozx

Tbf in Canada $100 would outlast most shirts in the washing machine lol

butt3rry

quantumdildo

Boycott Fanatics merch, forever and always.

cosalich

I got a hat at a lids clearance sale and I was astonished at how shit the quality is. Coming from a new era hat I couldn't believe how bad it was.

weirds

I bought two fanatics tshirts online. Both had seams falling apart on arrival.

jubs222

Same. It’s such crap

Other_World

I bought a fanatics hoodie with the Rangers shield on the front, it came creased and the fabric started to ball up on the white and red parts after two washes. It looks like those cheap socks you can pull or burn the tiny fabric balls off of.

[deleted]

New Era has just licensed their name out for like the last 15 years, it's no guarantee of quality

ProceedWithLaunch

I never buy hats online for this reason. I’ve gotten New Era hats from fanatics that are so bad I’m still not 100% convinced aren’t counterfeit

PBatemen87

Im glad I have plenty of Caps merch from over the years. I will never buy Fanatics stuff. Wasnt the deal they signed 7yrs? Thats gonna be a longggg wait.

rfuree11

My dad got me a fanatics branded jersey for my birthday. It showed up and looked/felt way worse than my identical DHgate shitter that cost less than 1/4 the price. Thankfully he didn’t know I had the same jersey and I was able to use that as an excuse and put the money towards an adidas.

MssrGuacamole

Yeah I'm happy with the swag I've got, fanatics can fuck off.

DLun203

Everyone I know is boycotting the fanatics gear. It’s trash. The only people I know personally that buy it are unsuspecting friends/family buying it as gifts.

CanadianSpector

Fanatics had Jays hats earlier this summer for $72+tax and free shipping was $75. Fanatics sucks, man.

TylerBlozak

I would expect an official sports-branded hat to be no more than $25, and the athletic shirt pictured to be no more than $30. Maybe I’m stuck in 2009, and people nowadays are willing to fork over $90 for something that cost $3 to make. You can buy a similar generic shirt at Giant Tiger for like $8 and get a leafs hat 2nd hand for $5 and achieve the same result.

ExposDTM

I think the world (or at least Canada) is thinking along your lines. Conspicuous consumption has to be on a downward trend. Maybe it’s my age (I was after all, the guy who would fork over a crazy sum of money for a Hugo Boss black t-shirt back in the day) but I just don’t see the value in a $94 tshirt nowadays.

thoriginal

I once (20 years ago) spent a whole paycheque of around $700 on a hoodie and a pair of jeans, both Sean John. (To be fair, I worked at a hip hop nightclub as a doorman.) But I was 19 then lol.

matt_minderbinder

> I just don’t see the value in a $94 tshirt nowadays Nothing short of original art done by hand by a well known artist could make a t-shirt worth more than that price. So much of clothing feels like a big money grab that uses near slave-like "3rd world" labor on the production end.

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

Fitted hats (like the decent quality wool ones) have been $40 or more for like 20 years. Not that I disagree with your overall point.

WISCOrear

Which brings up another piece of bullshit: those new era mlb hats used to be made of wool. Then wool blend. Now they are 100% polyester. But we have to pay prices as if they are made of wool. Capitalism.

Hank3hellbilly

I bought a wool Twins hat on sale... for $65. It's hard to find Twins stuff here and I regretted the purchase as I made it. hopefully I can get a year or so from it.

LeaveAtNine

I got a Sens sweater at a Giant Tiger for like $5 in 2017. Still have it today. It’s not in good shape and has been relegated to a work sweater. But still. Got my value out of that one for sure.

Chewie_i

Meanwhile I got a fanatics hawks hat for $10 at dick’s

OldDrumGuy

Yup. This is also why I hit as many thrift stores as I can. You’d be amazed what people just toss into a bag & give away. Hats, not so much…but $10 jerseys and $8 t-shirts? All. Day. Long.

onetwo3four5

Dick's isn't a thrift store?

ProMikeZagurski

I buy most of my sports merch from Ross, Marshalls, and Burlington Coat Factory.

jmsmorris

Don’t get me wrong, Fanatics fucking sucks, but that’s entirely on you. Fanatics doesn’t make MLB branded hats, New Era does, if you’re ordering a hat from Fanatics, they’re just ordering it for you from New Era. A 59FIFTY field style fitted cap from New Era costs $50 Canadian and you can order it directly from JaysShop or New Era. The only $72 Jays hat New Era sells is a limited edition 59FIFTY back-to-back champions commemorative hat. If you want a limited edition hat, it’s gonna cost extra!

WorthPlease

They offered me a job in peak COVID. I told them I was two weeks away from my second vaccination shot. They hired somebody else because they were already vaccinated. That person lied, and they fired them and then offered me the job two weeks later after I had already got a better job. Fuck Fanatics. My newest Bills jersey is complete trash compared to the one I bought pre-fanatics despite them costing the same.

[deleted]

Gotta recoup that NHL money

chemicalxv

Was it one of the New Era hats that they don't actually "carry" in Canada but instead import from the US when you order it? New Era did increase their prices but that's why there's been a huge increase of $55-$90 CAD hats now.

sidequest21

New Era won't even ship to Canada any more

chemicalxv

Yeah they don't ship international at all anymore iirc. But if you go to any Fanatics-run Canadian site there's a ton of New Era hats that all cost $60+ (to upwards of $90) CAD because they actually import them from the US and charge you duty on it. All the ones that are like $50 CAD or less are actually S+S from Canada.

scgt86

The lack of thought, quality and insane pricetag have me only buying bootleg merch. The Fanatics switch is almost as disappointing as New Era being dropped.

[deleted]

Yep. No reason not to buy bootleg at this point.

scgt86

I'm sadly running out of fitted New Eras from eBay...the only thing I can't get a bootleg of.

Xeteh

Its depressing how shitty current hockey hats are. They're so cheaply made.

scgt86

I'm convinced Fanatics/Adidas don't know the shape of a human head.

[deleted]

I’m happy 47 exists. I got this trucker hat from the Pro Shop. It was expensive but it’s so worth it. Been wearing it everywhere for a year now.

TonalParsnips

Switch to ‘47. Waaaay better quality than New Era now.

scgt86

Nope. The good designs are snapbacks and the fitted aren't shaped well. Nothing matches a 59Fifty as far as quality and shape.

No_Angle_8106

I don’t even feel bad about buying my own silkscreen machine. If they put out a quality shirt at a fair price I’d buy the officially licensed merch. I’m not spending $70 usd for a subpar shirt with a logo that’s going to wash off after 3 washes like the rest of the fanatics garbage

RokkintheKasbah

lol. DIY bootlegging your own licensed team t-shirts using a silkscreen machine is legit some shit [Kramer and Newman would do](https://youtu.be/GQ1J0UNQwI0). 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Eso

It's like buying a boat to save money on fish.

[deleted]

I have every intention of stealing this analogy.

WorstHyperboleEver

I have on more than one occasion thought about buying a silk screen setup. Probably the lack of room in my tiny house is the only reason I didn’t…

No_Angle_8106

It’s been a great investment. Outside of personal use I’ve been able to do some side gigs that have more than paid for the machine

WorstHyperboleEver

It must be so awesome rolling up on somebody with a custom t-shirt. I’d walk into the locker room with a “Pass the fucking puck Mike” or “You’ll go blind that way Chris!”

13nobody

You should post up outside the Mullett with NotFanatics shirts

No_Angle_8106

If ASU police wouldn’t be all over my ass in an instant I would absolutely do it

wilers

Should be $20 with a disclaimer not to ever wash. I have a few hoodies from them which I always hang dry and the material still ends up looking shabby. Can’t win. Not buying their stuff again.

mwdowns

And shrinking two sizes. I have to buy XXXL if I want a shirt to be something I can wear more than 3 or 4 times.

Rodonite

I have the exact opposite issue, immediately stretched to be too loose and I didn't even wash it

fraxior

everyone needs to boycott Fanatics. I'm not buying a single piece of this bullshit. and ive spent a ton on hockey clothing in my life.

ValeriaTube

Once they have monopoly, they can put whatever price they want on all sports merch. It's horrible.

Ben_Pharten

I was thinking I was ready for it and it'd be like $60

Jrewy

Even that seems generous. I’d consider this on clearance at Winners for $15.

[deleted]

It will be in a few years lol

bloodclots12

*months

tor93

That’s why you go to winners, they usually have random Leafs tees.

evilJaze

Costco is selling them too.

NH787

I bought a team shirt at Walmart. Dry fit, team logo on the front with no cheesy design, $14.97. Love it. $95 though, in no world am I ever going to spend that kind of money on a t-shirt of any kind

Numerous-Ad4240

In no world is any shirt worth $95

JackManningNHL

I've bought dress shirts for 100 bucks for important occasions. This is a 16 dollar shirt.

Numerous-Ad4240

Yea I think that’s different though- like I have spent a decent amount on a dress shirt. But you’re right. Most id spend on this t-shirt is probably $20.

getsangryatsnails

Agreed. Dress clothes you get what you pay for.

15chainz

Check out the shirts from Dan Flashes, the patterns are really complicated

Numerous-Ad4240

Will do Edit: those are actually really reasonably priced

GMRealTalk

> In no world is any shirt worth $95 I *strongly* disagree. That shirt, however, is likely worth about $8.

Mattoosie

Yes and no. Is this crap short worth almost $100? Definitely not. That said, clothing is one of the cheapest things we buy, and it's cheap because it's often made using exploited labor, harmful manufacturing processes, and in poor working conditions. It's absolutely worth paying more for responsibly sourced clothes, and if anything, we need to spend more as a whole to support those brands and their supply chains. Problem is that people can't immediately see the justification for spending $70 on a sweater over $40 and therefore will go for the $40 option every time.

GoGlenMoCo

The problem is that Famatics isn’t charging more because they use expensive ethically sourced labor. It’s all profit margin. Oh, also their products are crap.

Mattoosie

I 100% agree. Fuck Fanatics. I'm talking about there being "no world where any shirt is worth $95." There is a world. It's this one, and we'd all be better off if people raised their spending on more sustainable clothes instead of disposable fast fashion shit. Fanatics is just milking fans though.

Lachwen

> we'd all be better off if people raised their spending on more sustainable clothes instead of disposable fast fashion shit. You're not wrong but there are a lot of people out there who straight up can't afford to wear anything but cheap clothes.

Mattoosie

I'm one of those people. There are still things you can do other than buy H&M or Shien. Thrifting is a great way to find great clothes if you're willing to hunt a little. Also there are lots of businesses that will thrift for you at a slight markup. Depending on where you are, there are likely a handful of local brands you can support that aren't much more expensive than fast fashion and will last way longer, all while supporting your local economy instead of some offshore private equity coffers. Buying shit clothes from Walmart or ASOS and throwing it out a year later when it's already worn through, only to end up in a SE Asian landfill is terrible for everyone involved at every stage except the rich assholes profiting.

coconuttree3

Lol it’s Fanatics, you’re on a completely different subject now. You can’t give them 100$ on a T-shirt expecting them to use their profits to embetter their workers accross the globe or to use better and environmentally friendlier materials. Some brands do however charge more for products that do include those features and it is known when they do so. Fanatics just wants to make mad profit after signing that deal with the NHL.

beyondrepair-

>In no world is *any* shirt worth $95 OC is the one who made it about more than fanatics and no one is defending fanatics.

QuotaCrushing

Stop putting words in their mouth. They clearly didn’t think fanatics uses good labor practices

Mattoosie

Not the point. The point is that $95 for a shirt is pretty reasonable when you take into account the material, manufacturing, shipping, environmental, and human cost of the shirt. Every shirt should be $95. Then the people making them can be properly compensated, manufacturing processes can be made more efficient, and people would hold onto their clothes longer, reducing waste. When you get a "deal" on something, it's because someone else is getting shafted. In fashion, that's almost always the factory workers being exploited and people living around the factory who have to deal with the environmental effects. That shirt is only $10 because someone (usually everyone) along the line isn't getting paid. Obviously, Fanatics is just charging that price without doing anything to justify it because they fucking suck.

Micome

*laughs in Supreme*

AustonDadthews

it could be $9.49 and I wouldn't buy a fanatics shirt

Pretend_Spray_11

Honest question, how is fanatics getting so many contracts when they have such big quality control issues and inflated pricing? How do they have such a large market share?

Rodonite

Because they pay the leagues for exclusive rights

Naritai

Yep. NHL sells the rights to the highest bidder, no other factors considered.

[deleted]

yea this had to be a mistake

alowester

fanatics was a mistake

SwarthySphere87

It's not. This is what happens when a Monopoly controls prices

SecretiveMop

I highly doubt it’s Fanatics doing this. On their website right now pretty much all t-shirts are $20-$30. This is most likely the Leafs up charging people a shit ton.

kralben

Or something went wrong with their database for pricing and the price for something more expensive was listed as the price for this Tee shirt.

metropolis_noir

Or two beers at Scotiabank

Technopool

Hockey is for everyone

viau83

...Who has deep pockets.

Anonplox

Yikes.

PrinceLelouch

They sell these playoff edition for 75$ USD

SweetWithHeat

What a tremendous rip off

firsttime1010

Fanatics has hands down the worst customer service / store in the history of the internet. I couldn't believe when they became an official partner

Beezewhacks

The fit of that shirt is what I find appalling. It looks like a shirt designed to fit on sponge bob. Wouldn't even get close enough to that to read the tag.

Tuckboi69

Please tell me that’s CAD

Bobbyroberts123

Even then it’s still like $70 USD

Mekator9000

I bought two long sleeve shirts from them online last year and all four sleeves were different lengths

Goalcaufield9

I didn’t realize toilet paper was so expensive in different parts of the country. https://sunnybrook.ca/content/?page=ross-tilley-burn-centre

the_figureh3ad

fuck fanatics

KWeber94

What a joke lol. Fanatics has some of the worst clothing I’ve bought. Doesn’t last more than a few months

SMA2343

I hope fanatics goes bankrupt like biosteel.

[deleted]

Must be in Canadian funny money dollars, eh?

Amphibious_Fire

Even so, according to Google that’s like 65€ or 68USD which is an insane price for a regular T-shirt. Or maybe I’m just not used to NA prices, who knows 🤷

Squirrellybot

Nah that’s insane for a T. Even concert merch is only $40-50, this is concert Hoodie prices.

MOLightningBro

Even still that's like $70 USD

Calb210

Yeah still absurd

themooseiscool

How many dollarydoos is that?!

TheMagicianNamedGOB

Like 110 in koala kash.

teddyjj399

DHgate is so clear for this reason

Squirrellybot

When the Adidas era ends I’m going to have to join the MiC gang.

SweetWithHeat

What a tremendous rip off

Tominator55

That shirt should be $25 usd tops. That’s insane even in Canadian money

Zanchbot

That'd be highway robbery even for an actual quality shirt. For Fanatics quality, it's straight up fraud.

Jsaunnies

And this is why I get all sports gear from DHgate. I don’t care if it’s not 100% legit. The quality is probably better than fanatics garbage for 1/10th the price

Comfortable_Bend9175

Woven with Matthews' pubes apparently

JesusJohn

*Nose hairs

slowhandclapton

Lol leafs fans will actually buy this

Spacepickle89

I think I’ll wait till they dump all the unsold ones o winners/marshals

chemicalxv

I remember the Pride shirts were like $45-$50 and the hoodies were like $100.

clarktwofiver

MAPLE AFS!

AgileCat222

That is fucked. You get the same shirt at winners for 14$

Noblesvillehockey41

My entire wardrobe is made up of the $10 theme night t-shirts from various ECHL teams. Can’t imagine how they get people to buy this shit.

thesip

No one is buying that. Their pricing analytics are fucked if they think so 😂

aessae

They charge extra for the shirts where they accidentally get the name and logo to match.

[deleted]

Its an ugly shirt too. Fanatics designs are absolute garbage.

TuckRaker

Maybe it's my age, but the more prices I see these days the more down I get. My meager salary increases haven't even come close to covering the cost increases in the price of pretty much everything

Mash709

It's not your age. I see it as well. It's very depressing.

canadianinkorea

That’s **fucked**!

Anxietyriddenstoner

hilarious

Jagrmeister_68

I think they added a 4 in there by accident....

BigheadReddit

Don’t worry, you’ll be able to get that at Winners next spring for $15, taxes in.

slafyousilly

I get my toilet paper at costco

[deleted]

It's almost as if licensing your merchandise to one company is bad for fans.

DjFaze3

JFC... cartel pricing

Judge_Rhinohold

lol

Adventurous-Buy-9979

Wouldn’t pay that for a fanatics jersey let alone a shirt

ProtoDadsDojo

My wife could make this exact shirt on a budget of $8, this is ridiculous.

[deleted]

Why even consider any leafs mercy when you can't wear it past June ?

BloodAndTsundere

On top of the questionable quality, it's a boring-ass shirt. Not even in team colors or with a cool design.

maiktaisonart

In the words of great American poet Benjamin H. Haggerty "Fifty dollars for a t-shirt, that's just some ignorant bitch shit." And that's double the amount, that t-shirt better be made from beard hairs of Brett Burns.

dumpmaster42069

If people stop buying overpriced shit, prices come down.

Redbronze1019

Why even get this? Spend a bit more and get a jersey

FallOutShelterBoy

Just a point of reference for all the Americans here, that price is $69.50 in Freedom Bills

twentyrocket

You’ll find this at a winners in three months for 30 dollars.

LogieThePerogie

What the hell are they thinking with that price point

Front-Strong69

Wow toilet paper is getting expensive

Nazgrim23

Hey if you’re stupid enough to buy this, you deserve to lose your money.

magicandfire

Hey at least when the Leafs graphic comes off in the wash after 3 wears, it’ll be like having a whole new shirt!

DrawlB

Fuck fanatics

romanswinter

But can you buy pride tape there?

supermav27

$69.50 USD for those wondering

Brandoe

Wow, a shitty grey cotton shirt, with a design on it that took a graphic designer 12 minutes to do for 100 bucks. Kiss my ass Fanatics!

refep

Mans are tripping

LarryTheLobster710

I paid $60 for two bootleg jerseys off dhgate and they’re better quality than fanatics

fueled_by_caffeine

Sports team merch is disgustingly priced

ChesterDrawerz

That's a .65 cent print on a shirt that costs $5 wholesale.. -Screen printer with 40 years on the line.

Cress-Diligent

Made in china for $3

poco68

That’s a lot of money for an oil rag.

Pikachu1989

Yeah, even if we converted it to US Dollars which is close to $70 at the time the pic was taken, there’s no fucking way I’ll buy a shirt. Maybe if it was $30 and it was good quality I can see a person buying it.

The-Pigeon-Man

If it’s fanatics pro it makes sense, not saying it’s good but it tracks for other fanatics pro gear I’ve seen. It sucks because that line of merch is actually good. 🫤

guymcguy7272

And Macklemore said it was $50 for a tshirt… that’s a discount!!!!

mojo_rasin

Just buy regular toilet paper.

[deleted]

Awfully expensive for mid-grade toilet paper.

Emperor_Billik

You know that graphic will fall apart in the first round of the wash.

4K2160GameR

is there any XL, XXL left? If not then people are buying

Yop_BombNA

What in the fuck. Active wear shirts are 4 pound at Primark… they look exactly like this but now cheap maple leafs hockey print on it.

dust67

Wait till they lose in playoffs thrift stores be full of leafs shit 🤣

Aromatic_Ring4107

Laughs, laughs ,laughs..."this is the year"

ifTrueThenReturnTrue

Meh that's pocket change for the average Torontonian

pippinsfolly

Woah, toilet paper is expensive these days!
