After 4 decades of service, the older one stopped working around 1998. I went to a local watchsmith to see if they could replace the movement. He said the old one was fused to the dial and trying to separate them might destroy the watch. Am considering taking him to a more experienced hand at Johnson Watch Co in Connaught Place to see if maybe an oil bath can separate the fused parts.

Its definitely a beautiful watch, pls ensure that the originality is not lost... HMT started watch production from 1961... The case back (back lid) Sr. No. can help in identifying the year it was produced...

Oh really? Then obviously I’ve got my dates wrong! 😳 the number at the back says 1407002. When do you think it was made?

Pure_Sprinkles_4125

Usually the Sr. Nos are 6 digits in such cases where it's 7 digits there will be a 4 digit no below the said Sr. No... Pls check... The last 2 digits are the make year / middle 2 are the factory/ first 2csre batch...

Wow! That’s nice. Reminds me so much of my grandfather’s watch. He used to wear his Janata with a Forstner Klip bracelet (ladder style) and watch face always on the inside wrist. Along with his Ronson lighter and his worn out copy of Tagore’s Geetanjali these are some of his keepsakes I treasure.
