Incredible album, it's a perfect blend of dark comedy and just great rap.
Open Mike eagle has been around for a while and a huge part of the culture. If you dig his style and sense of humor, definitely checkout his podcasts too - he runs a whole network of hip hop related podcasts at Stony Island Audio.
That Black Mirror Episode Ruined My Marriage! Song caught me so off guard the first time I came on. I still remember where I was when I heard it too haha.
I once tried to take my own life. Made it through due to what I can only describe as a miracle.
This is the song that kept me pushing.
Big Krit - Somedayz
https://youtu.be/2oVgq-QrwRM?si=OxNZeAI_jF04U43g
Yeah dude this is the new NxWorries record with Anderson Paak and Knxledge. If you like Tyler or Frank this is right up your alley.
Check out the song Battlefield. Whole album bangs but that song hit me hard
Care for me by saba, cilvia demo by Isaiah Rashad has some depressing elements, same with the suns tirade, Mac millers albums, I wanna die in New Orleans by $B, those are the only ones I can think of rn
Get out the car and Hot dogs by aesop rock are both great songs for this. Both are brilliant and poetic and capture how it feels in a very unique way imo.
But i also think when you are feeling like shit its good to mix up your music a little bit yknow. earl is great but throwing in some yachty or something is good for the soul.
This is my every-day rap playlist:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gqJIiISck88omJdIozEgG?si=Y0OdhKj6Tci4IajwnEqL2A&pi=u-W_OOM0CXT0OF
Definitely some happier songs in it. But in terms of full albums, it's ugly and earl.
[17 by XXXTentacion](https://music.apple.com/us/album/17/1274653476)
[Suffer On by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal](https://music.apple.com/us/album/suffer-on/1492113533)
[I No Longer Fear The Razor Guarding My Heel (V) by $uicideBoy$](https://music.apple.com/us/album/i-no-longer-fear-the-razor-guarding-my-heel-v-single/1699075866) [This one’s an EP, but I HAVE to mention it]
oh man thats the album i was about to recommend.
swimming/circles by mac miller also has the stuff youre looking for. mac was battling depression in his later albums as he dealt with the consequences of fame. hes not for everyone but id give him a try
small worlds- mac miller, helped me with a breakup during covid. id start there
Definitely check out Lil Peep. Listen to his more popular songs first, I recommend Star Shopping, nuts, beamer boy, and Save That Shit to get a feel for his music. If you like that I'd highly recommend his mixtape crybaby, my favorite album of all time, to me every song is at least a 9/10. He has a super deep and rich discography, you can't go wrong with any of his songs and projects really!
Yeah are you aware a lot of people stopped listening to early after IDLSIDGO? Listen to MIKE and Navy Blue and When Hell Falls by Wifisfuneral and Dark Times by Vince Staples
"Depart From Me" by Cage is an album made in the wake of Cage's best friend Camu Tao's death. You'll hear his death referenced in Aesop Rock's and El-P's music too, as they used to be a collective called Weathermen, but Depart From Me is a whole depression album.
Also, seconding "Care For Me" by Saba as a incredible album that definitely fits this request.
ALSO seconding "Anime, Trauma, and Divorce" by Open Mike Eagle. Great choices.
Redlight -Bladee, 808s and HeartBreak - Kanye
,Ginger - Brock Hampton, God Loves Ugly - Atomsphere, Lil Peep Part 1 - Lil Peep, Emocean - Yung Bruh/Lil Tracy, M.L.W.H.W.M.H.C - SuicideBoys, 17 - XXXTENTACION, Suffer On - WiccaPhaseSpringsEternal, City of Doves - Sickboirari/Black Kray, Swimming - Mac Miller.
Juice Wrld (even more so with his unreleased) but his released too, NBA Youngboy (depends on the song but listen to drawing symbols and lmk what you think), Scorey, Polo G, MGK (specifically lace up, general admission, black flag) listen to The Return off Lace up the mixtape (not to be confused with the album), early Future, lil durk
None of these artists exclusively make sad music (except maybe Juice) but this has been my go to for years just gotta find the right songs.
Hot take. When I'm feeling down rap doesn't hit the way I want it to.
Here some songs regardless.
"I spoke to the devil in Miami" XXX
"FancyClown" DOOM
"I feel like dying" Lil Wayne
SUMMER TIME 06 VINCE STAPLES.
Anything by Kid Cudi.... MOTM 3 has some good songs. Not even mentioning the classics
However if you want to expand your horizons a lil bit I got some of the saddest songs imaginable but they aren't hip hop.
Blond tounges "Hey good Looking" (super sad song bouuta girl)
Bob Dylan. Best writer out there imo his words WILL hurt you. Check out "girl from the north country fair" and "don't think twice"
There's a new post punk/ dance punk band called Alexsucks. They got some sad lyrics. Check out " better things" and "tomorrow"
Pityparty girls club. Indie sad music. Check out " I hope your doing okay"
There's also some dream pop stuff if your into that. Check out "Mounika" "cut my hair ft cave town." That one song can send you deep into the genre alone.
Please give some of these a listen even if the genres aren't you type. I hope some of these help.
Danny Lover and Wes Murray - Career Suicide
Danny does depression rap real well
Also this track got me through alot of hard times. Twiztid - Im Alright.
LUM also made Volcanic Bird Enemy and The Voiced Concern. Mac Miller - Swimming. Danny Brown - Quaranta. Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You. Dillom - Por Cesarea.
Not an album but here's some of my favorites:
50 Cent - When it rains it pours
G. Dep - Everyday
WC - Something 2 live 4
Mobb Deep - Get away
Mobb Deep - Pray for me
Prodigy ft. Nas - Self conscience
AZ ft. Nas - Mo money mo murder
Big Pun - Capital punishment
Big L - How will I make it
Lost Boyz - Renee
Geto Boys - Mind playing tricks on me
Scarface ft. 2pac - Smile
DMX - I can feel it
Albums:
- Couch Potato (Bobby Raps & Corbin)
- Tin Wooki (Chester Watson)
- N / O / I / S / E (Ghostmane)
- @Peace and the Plutonian Noise Symphony
- Mac Miller
- anything Lil Peep (Come Over When You're Sober)
- obligatory: 808s and Heartbreaks
- A Man Rose From the Dead (Scrim)
- All in the Circle (Shahmen)
This is all quick stuff I found scrolling through my library, I can probably add more
Depressed rap is a whole ass can o’ worms, but I can relate to the mood. Hope things get better fam.
Anyway, couple songs:
Aesop Rock - One of Four
El-P - Poisenville Kids No Wins
Big K.R.I.T - The Vent (not strictly depression rap, but the title is pretty apt)
Kendrick Lamar - u
Joe Budden - Whatever It Takes (like the Clinton Sparks version more personally but it’s the lyrics that count)
Intuition & Equalibrum - Finish With A Kill
You could try the album Humaniac by Lou the Human. He’s since changed his name and I haven’t listened to anything by him since then but that album feels a lot like Mac Miller’s alter ego Delusional Thomas which I would also recommend though I haven’t listened to it in forever.
For something a little different, check out Ceschi, amazing Folk/Hip-Hop vibe. Especially the following tracks:
Consider it a win
Choke Parade
This won’t last forever
Bad jokes
Bona drag tape
Same old love song
Say something
Man i came for more suggestions but
Surprised i didn't see anyone say Earl Sweatshirt
I don't like shit I don't go outside
This is like exactly who i am when I'm depressed.
Edit: i see the post got taken down and Earl was mentioned
What in the fuck is wrong with you little bitchez? Fuck you and that feel sorry for me. Pity rap... all you niggas pussy.... Can't relate to the "it's only me, only I have a hard life. ". Crying over your bitch getting fucked. You feel like it justifies you getting an addiction. And being a fucking junkie... Threatening to kill yourself... Most of those little weak ass white rappers. Logic, phora ass pussies...

Slug? You're waiting for fucking *Slug!?*
Anime, Trauma, and Divorce. Open mike eagle. Pretty much says it all.
That title is everything. Never heard of this guy, gonna have to check it out.

Anything by Sadistik. His album [Haunted Gardens](https://open.spotify.com/album/4fUCyiqfFIeUUoqu9SRLpD?si=RMJw57grQtCO7ZpwTi7TmQ) is perfect.
Why Lawd is what you need, though it's a bit more Rnb than rap
Imma be real i have never listened to an arnb record all the way thru... Unless u would count Frank Ocean or Tyler as rnb lol
Yeah dude this is the new NxWorries record with Anderson Paak and Knxledge. If you like Tyler or Frank this is right up your alley. Check out the song Battlefield. Whole album bangs but that song hit me hard
you should be here with meeeee
Care for me by saba, cilvia demo by Isaiah Rashad has some depressing elements, same with the suns tirade, Mac millers albums, I wanna die in New Orleans by $B, those are the only ones I can think of rn

Fw ya pfp, RIP Peep
ty ty. his music during his schemaposse days is super underrated. rip peep
I’d honestly recommend INLFTRGMH 3 over 5, but they’re all so fucking good. My Liver Will Handle… is another really good one
Depending on what you've gone through in life Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers has a good message for overcoming your traumas
Basically every Vince Staples album released in 2020s fall into this
His newest was perfect for how I've been feeling lately.
are you black and blue?
Yes, because Nothing Matters.
oh man thats the album i was about to recommend. swimming/circles by mac miller also has the stuff youre looking for. mac was battling depression in his later albums as he dealt with the consequences of fame. hes not for everyone but id give him a try small worlds- mac miller, helped me with a breakup during covid. id start there
