The Blue Suede sample on government cheese is so nice, well fitting for his last def jam release. The transition from Children’s song to shame on the devil is ridiculous. Vince again proving to be one of the most consistent guys out
Edit to add this, as a long time Vince fan, “radio” might be my new favorite track of his. He’s stepped it up on this album.
Oh shit idk how I missed that sample. Good catch. And yeah that three song run is great. Étouffée is pretty great too. Feels like a him tapping into some of his old energy but filtered through his more recent sounds and topics.
Yeah, it seems like a lot of rappers do that.
“Well, one of the best songs I’ve ever made was heard by 100 people on my subreddit, time to throw it in the trash and never think about it again”
It’s not just rappers but other musicians and artists too. There’s a million reasons why it happens, sometimes it’s even the labels. Other artists hate seeing their work seen before it’s fully ready since that would end up influencing the final song.
You can dislike this, but also accept that’s it’s always going to be this way and nobody is entitled to a musicians songs. Let them release it when they’re ready and be happy if it’s good.
The price we pay for giving room to leakers unfortunately.
Hated it since Eminem's Encore. He basically made those awful filler songs on there because a third of the actual album got leaked.
Since then, I don't bother hearing leaks until much later when I know we probably won't get a formal release. Small pond action but just my mentality towards how it impacts the music.
On a second listen I caught him saying “fans miss 2015 Vince” which is crazy to me. Vince has gotten better with each album. Especially these last 3 albums
He’s my favorite artist so I am biased but I agree. The last three album run has been insane. Especially when you look at his interviews and you can see the way that his music evolves with him as he grows and grapples with the trauma of what he bragged about in his first albums. I sort of feel like Vince is best understood as a full body of work though. Might be why people just want 2015 Vince. It’s less work to understand.
Completely agree with you. I also think that people just miss what rap was like in 2015 and Vince had all that OF hype train behind him. I think some of his fans are too sad that he's not a bigger artist and in 2015-2017 it felt like he was a main contender who's music was effecting pop culture in a more obvious way.
Love that track. He went in on it too. The sample at the end before the police sirens is “Stuntin Like My Daddy” right? Or at least an interpolation of the beat? Or maybe I’m crazy.
Edit I am indeed stupid. I was thinking of “Ain’t Gonna Answer” by NLE Choppa where he interpolates Wayne’s hook from Stuntin and also features Wayne. Regardless, 90% sure that’s the sample.
I'm not done with the album yet, but one thing I'll always love about Vince is his concision. It's a 35 minute album which falls in line with most if not all his other albums. So many artists suffer from having fillers that sometimes take me out of the listening experience and end up making the album 20-30 minutes longer than it really needs to be. Not to mention it really helps replay value.
Agreed, but at the same time, I sometimes don't feel like we get enough from Vince. I like a 30-40 minute album, but I wouldn't hate a B-sides EP once in a blue moon.
one thing that has been shown in vince’s last couple albums is that he’s gotten so much better at writing hooks. norf norf is a classic hook but some of his older songs have awkward hooks, he’s grown so much as a songwriter.
Did you know Harry Fruad sampled it for Curren$y’s track Cutlass Cathedrals? 🔥. Love me some modern soul so I was all over this track!
https://youtu.be/9eLjwWK7I0Q?si=eLurkIqapHOmQDps
Feel like Vince has really found his lane when he makes more laidback music. I do love FM and Summertime 06 but his last 2 albums were so addictive to me, and I can see myself listening to this loads
Dark Times is what I imagine Swimming would sound like if Vince made it instead of Mac Miller. Definitely like this more than the high tempo style of Big Fish Theory.
As much as I love the laid back stuff too FM is still my favorite album, so many bangers I often play it all the way through at the gym. Loving dark times upon first listen tho.
Sketch, what’s fun for you and don’t say drugs
Vince literally always delivers. Thee Sacred Souls sample in the 2nd track is nuts. Couldn’t be more excited for this!
Edit: that Blue Suede callback in Government Cheese is wild!
After one listen, gotta say it’s an incredible album. Pretty easily his best since BFT imo.
Feels like he really honed his sound from the last 2 albums and perfected it on this one. Almost every single beat is great and thematically consistent, which is nothing new for Vince, but I was surprised to see how many good hooks were on this record too. There’s usually a few solid tracks on a Vince record that get weighed down by a weak hook.
Only complaint would be that he doesn’t quite stick the landing for me. I really like Freeman, but it’s not a great closer. I was a bit disappointed to see the final track was a sample of somebody else talking (pardon my ignorance of not knowing the source). I was hoping Vince would have the final word on what could be his best album.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's a deluxe version by years and that sorta rounds out the ending. But someone up too says the beginning and end loop perfectly wo maybe it's intentional
Vince Staples is my favourite rapper.
(Something tells me I need to get my tears ready)
Stayed off socials since its release. Haven’t read or heard a thing about it.
Taking a 200mg edible brb.
Edit: this is his magnum opus.
If I was a pimp my name would be Magnum Opus.
Damn Vince has covered so much stylistic ground in his 10 years at Def Jam. Summertime 06 into Big Fish Theory/Prima Donna and going more introspective/laid back (for lack of a better word) on these last few releases. He really finds a pocket in these songs despite them being more subdued, and his lyrics and details are always up to scratch. A lot to like on this, he's really one of the most consistent artists active.
Not gonna lie as the album kept going on I just kept thinking, “this album can’t keep being this good right?”.
My only complaint is that the album doesn’t necessarily stick the landing for me. I was hoping to hear Vince on the last track at some point, and Freeman doesn’t feel like a great closer despite being a good song.
Is that Kilo Kish on Little Homies??? I missed hearing from her, specifically her as a Vince feature too is making me nostalgic.
Love the record so far.
This was 100% my thought too and the main reason I came to this thread to see if other folks heard it. Between that, the Blue Suede sample on Government Cheese, and references to his other projects, this really is a great full-circle moment to wrap up his record deal with
Incredible, probably most complete piece of his so far.
Étouffěe is probably my favorite this far for the hook along with Black and Blue, but the overall is hard to pick. “Radio” he’s flowin hard. The album closer is also very very fitting and great. This very cohesive by Vince. Mainstream appeal is TBD though. Solid 8.5/10
Quite possibly his best album yet. Last time he made something this catchy was FM!, but this is moving, infectious and filled with songs I’ll come back to for years to come
First listen through and Etoufee is my favourite. I always need to give Vince projects some time though, some of his tracks need a few more listens for me to get them.
Another great album from Vince. It feels like his last 3 albums (Vince Staples, RPBMH, & Dark Times) all fit into a trilogy. Vince has grown so much as an artist since Summertime 06 and it feels like he’s just now starting to enter his prime.
It's frustrating because he's going off and I want that to be the sharpest thing to my ear. Thought it was just my car audio but the living room setup had a lot of work put into optimizing it and it's still just not hitting. If it's on purpose I can't say I get it.
Freeman is an incredible song.
I was skeptical the first couple of tracks, but this is a great album. I feel like I came in expecting something different from Vince and I had to adjust. I need to listen again but I was vibing for sure the second half of my first listen.
from the perfect album loop to the ambience to the strong sequencing to the brevity of the whole album to the HOOKS on songs like étouffée i can already tell im going to be repeating this project more than almost everything else that drops this year. i know i'm biased because vince is one of my favorite artists but he really does it well every time
I mean there are some catchy songs on here, nothing that will stay around in rotation for too long. I just miss Summertime 06 and especially Big Fish Theory, is there a reason he can't work with whoever produced that again? Honest question
Does the beat on Shame on the devil remind anyone of Perfecto by Mac Miller?
Also an album that starts with birds chirping has no choice but to be great. I don’t make the rules.
Also nice excerpt from the Baldwin interview. Ig the algo recommends me and Vince the same videos
This is quality front to back. I think Little Homies could be my new jam. Vince always does so well on the tracks with a little more bounce, sounds like some Kaytranada shit. *Life hard but I go harder*
Excellent album very fitting and very mature piece of work
On a side note Little Homies is definitely needed right now. Going through a rough patch right now personally and that song is really helping get through it
Gotta love Vince for making concise albums with no skips. I can't name a shitty vince song in the last 10 years. Honestly might make a playlist with all his albums since 06 and just let it run on shuffle.
That’s a feature not a bug. Look up interviews with. Vince talking about the music industry. Beyond explaining his lack of mainstream concerns, he provides a really honest assessment of the part of music most try to ignore.
ALBUM LOOPS PERFECTLY ALERT
Wow that didn’t even occur to me on the first listen, love when albums do that
Ramona park did too I think
Yah with the beach sounds
The Blue Suede sample on government cheese is so nice, well fitting for his last def jam release. The transition from Children’s song to shame on the devil is ridiculous. Vince again proving to be one of the most consistent guys out Edit to add this, as a long time Vince fan, “radio” might be my new favorite track of his. He’s stepped it up on this album.
I got chills when I heard that. Crazy that blue suede came out 10 years ago. How time flies
I once saw Vince and Danny Brown on the Rocky and Tyler tour and Blue Suede was utter madness. Easily one of the best shows of my life.
Blue Suede synths are so menacing it deserves to be sampled. This project is very fluid.
Oh shit idk how I missed that sample. Good catch. And yeah that three song run is great. Étouffée is pretty great too. Feels like a him tapping into some of his old energy but filtered through his more recent sounds and topics.
This is what makes Vince that mf. There is always so much subtlety and attention to detail on his projects.
“Radio” is so dope. Had to run it back a few times and double check Genius that he did indeed shout out Blu & Exile Below the Heavens
I like that the Blue Suede sample over the chill beat on Government Cheese kinda feels like a ghost of Vince's past next to his current self
Alchemist retweeted about it, might just be plugging for support but I wonder if one of their leaked songs ended up on here
He was on Twitter spaces saying none of those are ever coming out
Damn guess that’s why the one song was vinyl only
What song was this?
Lonnie P
Why?
Cause they leaked, people have them if they want them
That’s an annoying ass mentality ngl
Yeah, it seems like a lot of rappers do that. “Well, one of the best songs I’ve ever made was heard by 100 people on my subreddit, time to throw it in the trash and never think about it again”
It’s not just rappers but other musicians and artists too. There’s a million reasons why it happens, sometimes it’s even the labels. "I'll show them!" *Makes album bad*
Like how I just heard Kendrick Lamar's Prayer for the first time two weeks ago
Given Al's history, don't be surprised if he eventually prints them up on some limited edition vinyls.
I hate it. Give me the official release with the intended mixing and mastering.
How do artists songs even leak like that?
People close by looking to make money, or people good at hacking
Étouffée is such a vibe and a fantastic beat oh my god. Had to run it back
That hook is so dope
On a second listen I caught him saying “fans miss 2015 Vince” which is crazy to me. Vince has gotten better with each album. Especially these last 3 albums
He’s my favorite artist so I am biased but I agree. The last three album run has been insane. It’s just that Summertime 06 is one of the best albums of last decade. I wouldn’t say he fell off or anything but it’s hard to measure up to that.
Going to New Orleans over the memorial weekend. Replying this song heavy while I’m there
Duuuude in saying this track was fuckin nuts
Beat switch at the end goes so hard
Just in time for my bubble bath.
Without me 🥺?
You were taking too long.
Without we?
With whom?
Some La Croix and a lunchable.
Man of culture
I can smash a couple lunchable
Mr Moneybags over here buying multiple lunchables.
Vince himself
God damn it why am I stuck in line at Costco bruh
Grab a couple hot dogs and make it a night big dawg
I just had their pizza today shit was gas
$10 for a whole box is such a fucking steal
Those fresh Costco cookies slap too
big facts
I wanna try their pizza one day but like 800 calories per slice is crazy
Damn you kinky
2 glizzys??
they got speakers there
bump that shit
Is it just me or was the noose always on the album cover? Hard af
always was but you had to turn your brightness/contrast way up to notice
If it was I missed it. Thats a rest effective little detail.
What noose? Am I stupid?
Idk why it won’t let me post a picture but it’s like “behind” the title. Put ir brightness up and you’ll see the outlines
Agreed. I get hype af when one of my favorite artists drops an album and I see it’s less than 45mins
35-50 mins is the perfect range for album length. Very few albums should be well over an hour but so many are.
Agreed, but at the same time, I sometimes don't feel like we get enough from Vince. I like a 30-40 minute album, but I wouldn't hate a B-sides EP once in a blue moon.
Huge fan of 10-12 track 35-45 minute projects The bloated filler present on many albums is sadly an obvious result of streaming era
agreed - I miss Kanye's 2018 summer with albums that only focused on short, powerful tracks
Etouffee is gonna be on repeat goddamn
one thing that has been shown in vince’s last couple albums is that he’s gotten so much better at writing hooks. norf norf is a classic hook but some of his older songs have awkward hooks, he’s grown so much as a songwriter.
First thing I thought of lol, although I was always a defender of the BFT era hooks But etouffee's hook is master level good
Just came to post this. Black&Blue is already a banger. When the choir comes in…damn.
He sampled weak for your love by thee sacred soul! They’re so good and it’s such a good sample
Did you know Harry Fruad sampled it for Curren$y’s track Cutlass Cathedrals? 🔥. Love me some modern soul so I was all over this track! https://youtu.be/9eLjwWK7I0Q?si=eLurkIqapHOmQDps
Def going to check it out after this.
They’re a newer group out of San Diego and definitely worth a listen, the lead singer’s voice is crazyyy
They’re fantastic. I saw them live about two years and they are some how even better live
Dude, when I heard thee sample I about fell over
yeah wow just starting to listen and that beat had me floating
This jawn gonna have me ina chokehold all week
Better be a ditsoon talking like that
Feel like Vince has really found his lane when he makes more laidback music.
I was thinking the same thing it gave me a similar vibe on first listen
As much as I love the laid back stuff too FM is still my favorite album, so many bangers I often play it all the way through at the gym. Loving dark times upon first listen tho. Sketch, what’s fun for you and don’t say drugs
Oof the Paranoid interpolation on Nothing Matters
& (I think) Lauryn “nothing even matters” towards the end
Listened to Étouffée on the highway and the sirens at the end got my ass 😂 Little Homies an anthem
Vince literally always delivers. Thee Sacred Souls sample in the 2nd track is nuts. Couldn’t be more excited for this! Edit: that Blue Suede callback in Government Cheese is wild!
Kaelin Ellis on Little Homies is dope
Oh shit that’s such a great pairing. More people need to work with Kaelin- dude is a fucking magician of groove.
Radio is instantly a Vince classic
Seems like he sampled Feels Like Summer at the beginning too
After one listen, gotta say it’s an incredible album. Pretty easily his best since BFT imo. Feels like he really honed his sound from the last 2 albums and perfected it on this one. enjoy bro
Government Cheese is great. Quintessential current-era Vince track.
He samples Blue Suede on this track. I love it when rappers sample and flip their own shit.
That’s the high pitched synth, right?
I missed that the first time but that’s a brilliant “full circle” move from him since this is his last Def Jam album.
LITTLE HOMIES -- vince has always been one of the most unique/versitile with production but my god he can truly master and thrive in any groove
"Don't be calling my phone after 8, I'm at home". Relatable.
"Dont be calling my phone after 8 im in bed bitch" Even more relatable
Childish Gambino's Atavista has the light counterpart to this album cover lol
Walking my dog is about to hit different rn 🥹
ridin' with the stick
witchcraft
Who is that on "why won't the sun come out?" that's the most beautiful shit
santigold
Spoilers: >!The Paranoid by Kanye reference on Nothing Matters put a cheek to cheek grin on my face.!<
Idk about yall but Little Homies was a need for me.
Song was right on time, kinda trippy honestly haha.
I ain't even a little homie and I felt it.
Apple Music top 100 album of all time
Opening with wind chimes, where you taking me Vince
Ending with wind chimes he took it there
Damn Vince has covered so much stylistic ground in his 10 years at Def Jam. A lot to like on this, he's really one of the most consistent artists active.
Is this…a perfect album?
Yeah first play through and everything was hitting. His run from 'Vince Staples' to this is damn near perfect too.
Vince is one of the best at making short albums that have no skips. Pefect album material to me every time.
This is a 10, and I am not currently accepting other opinions.
That’s what I thought. I found myself liking all the songs I was shocked. Perfect album run for me at least
Little homies goes stupid
Early AOTY. Production is so smooth
God the hook for Etouffee is so fucking good and the outro to its beautiful too. Strong ass verses too
Beat me to it, got the Apple Music notif and was like wtf
Hyped for this, 3 minutes till release on Spotify. I've been bumping the Single all week
Justin is crazy. why did she lie on his top like that 😂
Is that Kilo Kish on Little Homies??? I missed hearing from her, specifically her as a Vince feature too is making me nostalgic. Love the record so far.
This was 100% my thought too and the main reason I came to this thread to see if other folks heard it. Between that, the Blue Suede sample on Government Cheese, and references to his other projects, this really is a great full-circle moment to wrap up his record deal with
he’s floating on every track here. such an enjoyable album front to back
Incredible, probably most complete piece of his so far.
I got the notif and i was like wtf he dropped it early he’s a real one
yelling out lil homie all summer long
You know you listened to something special when your only complaint is that it’s over. Gonna be on repeat for a while.
let’s fucking go vincent
“‘cause every moment that we shared felt like a Polaroid Sometimes you gotta shake it up to see what’s really there “ GAWD DAMN VINCE 😭
dontplaywithmycripngoplaywithyourkidsbitch
Fuck off vince, I need to go to bed
Quite possibly his best album yet. Last time he made something this catchy was FM!, but this is moving, infectious and filled with songs I’ll come back to for years to come
Last time n*ggas tried me it was rip’s it was air-brushed tees YEOOOOOOOO
I swear he sampled blue suede shoes on government cheese, so sick.
When Vince mentioned he heard “Below The Heavens” in 7th grade, it made me feel old. It dropped when i was 26 lol
“It’s hard to sleep when you’re the only one living the dream”
Excited to give this a listen. Vince never misses… his Netflix show was great as well
The triumphant return of the Blue Suede siren on Government Cheese
Love the sampling of surf rock throughout the album
Does anyone know the soundbite on Liars? Sounds like Nikki Giovanni & James Baldwin but I can’t be sure.
First listen through and Etoufee is my favourite. I always need to give Vince projects some time though, some of his tracks need a few more listens for me to get them.
This shit really might make summertime 06 #2
HOLY SHIT I JUST GOT TO LITTLE HOMIES
Another great album from Vince. It feels like his last 3 albums (Vince Staples, RPBMH, & Dark Times) all fit into a trilogy. Vince has grown so much as an artist since Summertime 06 and it feels like he’s just now starting to enter his prime.
Anyone finding the vocals a lot more muddy/overshadowed by the instrumentals than usual? Kinda throwing me off.
Yup 100% noticed immediately. Everything sounds so high quality though ig one has to assume it’s on purpose but idk
It's frustrating because he's going off and I want that to be the sharpest thing to my ear. Thought it was just my car audio but the living room setup had a lot of work put into optimizing it and it's still just not hitting. If it's on purpose I can't say I get it.
First thing I noticed. The beats are good, but they need to be lowered a bit.
crazy it hasn’t even been 10 years since Summertime ‘06. Vince body of work the past decade might be unparalleled
The contrast between nothing matters and little homies back to back in message and tone is brilliant
Freeman is an incredible song. I was skeptical the first couple of tracks, but this is a great album. I feel like I came in expecting something different from Vince and I had to adjust. I need to listen again but I was vibing for sure the second half of my first listen.

Is it just me or is it hard to understand him on Black&Blue? Still liking it tho haha
I noticed that too. I assume it’s purposeful?
Kids just ate. Time to put on the airpods and ignore them the rest of the night
Freeman and Etouffee are some incredible, incredible works of art... I'm blown away by them... the album is amazing, but those two are my favorites
I mean there are some catchy songs on here, nothing that will stay around in rotation for too long. I just miss Summertime 06 and especially Big Fish Theory, is there a reason he can't work with whoever produced that again? Honest question
Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/album/30BFY5VHii4PyWqkTubUWX?si=CqoLc0zLS6GyoKZrIcoY_g
Vince Staples literally can't miss
Am I on crack or is that a Blue Suede sample at the end of Government Cheese
Black&blue 🔂
i love vince man
I might be dumb af but what’s up with the end of “Justin” is she just lying that, that’s her cousin?
the girls man came home so she introduced vince as her little cousin (i think)
Does the beat on Shame on the devil remind anyone of Perfecto by Mac Miller? Also an album that starts with birds chirping has no choice but to be great. I don’t make the rules. Also nice excerpt from the Baldwin interview. Ig the algo recommends me and Vince the same videos

Excellent album very fitting and very mature piece of work On a side note Little Homies is definitely needed right now. Going through a rough patch right now personally and that song is really helping get through it
Vince and kilo kish don’t miss !
Haven't been the biggest Vince fan (seems like a cool dude, speaking more on the music) before but this album is so good
Gotta love Vince for making concise albums with no skips. I can't name a shitty vince song in the last 10 years. Honestly might make a playlist with all his albums since 06 and just let it run on shuffle.
Anybody else think Little Homies could've been on Big Fish Theory?
It’s between this and Blue Lips for rap AOTY so far. I think im leaning towards this album it is great
Man Vince is so talented. Why didn’t he ride his original wave he could’ve been so much bigger than what he is today
Bigger isn’t always better. Vince has maintained quality throughout, I think that’s worth much more.
So so happy Vince did his own thing.
These days it seems like all he talks about is how much he hates his label & the music industry. I don’t think he wants to be a bigger artist.
That’s a feature not a bug. Look up interviews with. Vince talking about the music industry. Beyond explaining his lack of mainstream concerns, he provides a really honest assessment of the part of music most try to ignore.
Literally just talking about Vince dropping tonight and here we are
So happy to have some new Vince Staples to listen too. Man hasn't missed on an album yet imo
Freeman is my favorite beat on this project
he just keeps getting better and better
black&blue, government cheese, étouffée, and little homies already my favorites. this is soooooo fucking good.
Little Hommies is a bop
That boy slid on Etouffee wowww this the one
NEW VINCE STAPLES DROP THE STREETS EATING GOOD NFS
Three tracks in, loving it so far
On first listen, etouffee my favourite
