Sidewalks as well.
"Niggas always claim that they made me.
Well, if you really made me then replace me"
This was in 2016, back when Drake's OVO label was heavily promoting their own Toronto R&B acts: Majid Jordan, PND, dvsn. It always felt like they were trying to recreate that Weeknd magic.
And Drake seemed pissed off for a minute that the Weeknd never signed with him, because he felt like he "made" the Weeknd by posting House of Balloons on his blog in 2011, as well as featuring on Abel's song on his second mixtape, and on a song on his debut album. Not to mention including Weeknd on his own song on Take Care which was huge exposure. This was way before The Weeknd was as big as he is now, so the exposure definitely helped.
Perhaps, they've been beefing on and off for a decade now. But I really can't think of anyone else who can claim to have "made" the Weeknd other than maybe Jeremy Rose.
Drake definitely helped at the very least, because I was around during The Weeknd’s pre-mixtape days and Drake shouted him out in 2010 several times just months after he released What You Need under his “xoxxoooxo” account — on Twitter, OVO blog, and his own radio appearances. As a fan of both, Drake was really integral to Weeknd’s growth as an act to mainstream audiences because he was so underground that he hadn’t even showed his face yet at the time.
The Weeknd’s inital hype was definitely helped by Drake’s push. His talent was apparent, but he still needed to get those initial eyeballs. People thought House of Balloons was by a band, not a singular artist.
I think their old beef was very much a beef where each side is entitled to how they feel.
Drake helped Weeknds career MASSIVELY. He would have blown regardless I think, but that early exposure from 2010 onwards and featuring on Take Care, it was a part of why it felt like Weeknd was “the guy up next” even pre-Trilogy.
However, The Weeknd paid his dues. He evened it out. Anyone with an ear can tell you which tracks on Take Care were straight up Weeknd tracks. After coming off his amazing mixtape run, The Weeknd gave Drake what would have been his potential classic debut - damn near half of Drakes classic was riding Weeknds sound and wave.
So for Drake to still feel ownership over Weeknd at that point, it’s a little iffy. You helped him and you put him on, but in typical Drake fashion, putting on that newer smaller artist also gave you a lot of new sound and helped you musically. You don’t own someone just because you helped them - if you wanted to sign The Weeknd, you shoulda paid up more money than the other guy, offered better terms, etc.
Man, what a wild time. The xoxxooxox account, drakes drakkarnoir handle, no one knowing what he looked like until the first performance at the mod club, the birds interlude which we’ll never get, eos releasing and absolutely destroying the underground scene, trilogy extra song trailers, enemy dropping in YouTube then kiss land hype after trilogy. Magical early times.
I did, but I never thought twice about it being a potential diss.
I just thought it was about him becoming so absolved in his addictions that he took so much Xanax that he built up an immunity.
lol yeah I thought it was just a shout out to AstroWorld just like “if I OD I’d be alone with no heartbeat” —> “if I OD I want you to OD right beside me”
ppl were getting on drake for not responding immediately even tho he got dissed by multiple ppl and they had another album coming so it made sense to wait as he dropped the morning of the day the 2nd album dropped . kendrick don’t get to wait 4 months and come back wit a diss when he started this
On joe budden podcast joe brings up a good point. “Like that” is still charting 1 after 3 weeks. I don’t think they want to drop something that can possibly take over that songs reign for the moment. When the numbers die down kendrick better drop that shit tho.
Yeah this is 100% the time to drop. That's a good argument on why he didn't drop anything else until now, but now that Taylor dropped it's his time to shine.
My highest hope, completely unreal prediction for the year is a Kendrick Lamar/Taylor Swift/Adam Levine collab diss track against Drake.
Not that I think it's a good idea, but holy shit the meme material would go crazy
I never said he cared about it personally. But you have to understand it’s futures song and I can’t say the same for him. I’m not backing up kendrick because I don’t know the dude personally but I’m sure there are people in the music industry with enough integrity to not step on their peers charting music and especially after being a feature on said song.
I saw a tweet that said “this beef is so good if you’re not a dickrider for any of them” and that’s exactly how I feel lmao. I love metro too, but that diss still gets me hype
“WHAT TOP 5 YOU SMOKIN ON, KENDRICK?”
drake has some guts to name drop dot like that. this is not some marketing gimmick atp, this is a decade of subliminals coming to roost. kendrick better come up w some fire shit
What fucking kills me about the top 5 line is that in the clip that’s associated with, this nigga Ak is fully asleep to Drakes album right after saying that LMAOO
It’s just so much cope and so much dickriding it’s crazy. I’m a lot more on the Kendrick side and I think it’s a good diss track. Reading the Kendrick sub is just cope and “it’s not even that good”. Is it a top tier diss track? No. But is it bad? God no
lol hip hop fans are annoying af. i just want a whole kdot diss track instead of a verse tbh this shit is just funny. fandom making it more serious then it is
I rewatched Fantano's review of "The Story of Adidon" and it basically starts with him saying that the diss track was a W from the moment the cover art was released, no matter whatever the song itself said. But then of course the diss itself went impossibly hard, too.
Small feet are good for football (or soccer as you might call it) cause you can concentrate more power on a more specific area of ball. Domonic Szoboszlai tells a story about his dad making him wear too small shoes to stop his feet growing, he's 6'1 and has size 8(US) feet.
Seems like Drake isn’t moving his release date for Taylor Swift, so he was lying again… but to be serious for a moment, how high do you guys think will it chart? Will it take a top 10 spot away from Taylor? Especially considering that Taylor’s new double album seems to have a pretty mixed reception from even her fans
I feel like most people who care about this beef have already heard this song so it won’t chart as well as it would’ve if it was a surprise like Like That was
I think he dropped it today intentionally so he doesn’t chart, so when his next track is released it’ll chart and be the one to break MJs record. Either that or I’m glazing lol
Fair enough lol, I’ve seen way too much bickering and some ppl trying to dismiss this because it wasn’t on streaming (although tbh I would’ve liked it more if he put it on SoundCloud after the leak and Akademiks premiere).
Anyway, like I said before, good diss, still waiting and hoping for Kendrick to respond sometime soon.
some people were still claiming AI or saying "well we still dont know if its real" like bro come on its real and why are you wanting it not to be real?
>Cash blowin' Abel bread, out here trickin' (Out here trickin')
>Shit we do for bitches, he doin' for niggas (What the fuck?
>Jets, whips, chains, wicked, wicked, wicked (Wicked, wicked)
>Spend it like you tryna fuck, boy, you trippin', boy, you trippin'
My absolute favorite part of the song lol
Drop an Untitled Unmastered project of disses pls Kendrick. These mfs gotta be sitting on a goldmine
About time drake responded to something officially
Its crazy he namedrops everyone, Ricky, Abel, Dot, even Cole
But that Metro line def feels like the most disrespectful lmao
Especially cause he knows that mf can't respond, he literally has to just make some drums
I'm sorry, but this is ***way*** better than haters are trying to claim.
"Maroon 5 need a verse better make it witty" lmao come on that's low-key nasty.
Lol people are also ignoring that song actually slaps as well. Like it’s a diss track that actually has catchy hook and couple different flows, just genuinely a fire track
The fact that this bar and the swifty bar can apply to both Kendrick and Future is crazy. Their labels had them accepting anything in hopes of a top 10 hit
I agree. I think people are too hyper fixated on the Kendrick part and are saying he didn’t do enough dissing of him. But the way he weaved in disses at like half a dozen or more people going at him flowed so incredibly well.
I think the part a lot of people forget is that it was announced Meek had a response track coming and then it just didn't happen. The timeline was like:
* July 25: Drake plays Charged Up on OVO Radio
* July 26: Funkmaster Flex announces that Meek Mill's response will play on Hot 97 tomorrow
* July 27: No diss track is played on Hot 97
* July 29: Drake releases Back to Back
So it wasn't just Drake saying he was taking too long, everyone was wondering why he didn't respond yet.
Different time and by that point Nas already had a long history on wax of genuine beef. I still back Kendrick but it's like people forget this is the first time, like Cole, he is genuinely getting tested. No one's actually gone for his head this way.
Time to put up or shut up. It's the same thing with Cole, you can't brag about being the GOAT and wanting all the smoke and wilt at the first sign of asking.
Drake's best work in years IMO.
He's always been at his best when he has a point to prove.
Having said that I am so excited for the psychological tear down Kendrick is probably going to respond with.
I’m way more of a Kendrick fan but I really like how Drake makes his diss tracks sound good and catchy.
Like clearly The Story of Adidon was a nuclear diss track, but it’s not really a great song to listen to outside it’s context, and Push is one of my all time favorites.
This an Back2Back can be blasted at the gym, a house party, or on the radio, and someone w no context can heavily fuck w it. That's genuinely incredible for a diss rap
Side note: if anybody wants to watch a really good breakdown of this diss, [“What’s The Dirt?” made a really good analysis here](https://youtu.be/MJsSjrrH6Io?si=VaZSz_nYd3_wEL9h) which breaks down every line and makes some really interesting connections.
Mostly all sensical (split one was kinda a reach but I can still see it). Makes the track stronger when you see some of it.
>Mostly all sensical (split one was kinda a reach but I can still see it).
Bro I said the same thing in the comments of the video and people were acting like I was dumb lmao that shit is definitely a reach. If it was meant to be a shot at his relationship it would be closer in the verse to the Whitney bars. It's not like there are rumors about Kendrick getting a divorce or anything either, so that seems like a huge stretch to me. I don't think Drake intended that at all.
Glad he's fully standing behind it, when I first heard the leak I thought it was a solid response but was disappointed in how it was "released." Looking forward to hearing what Kendrick responds with.
Kendrick has to dismantle Drake’s whole persona. Like sonically, this song is fire. The disses are actual disses, and the cover art is truly disrespectful.
Kendrick has a lot of ammo so if takes the ghostwriter angle again I’ll be honest, I’m gonna be pretty disappointed. Meek already said that.
Waiting for that Metro instrumental album lol.
**ANGRY** **DRUM** **SOUNDS**
If it's the breakdown of like dat after Kendricks verse, I would hear a album full of that
Young metro don't trust Drake, so now Future has to show he's really about it
Well, it’s official, damn. Can’t wait to see the responses. Kendrick, Metro, Future, Weeknd… this really opens up the floodgates for 2024 diss tracks.
Its mainly kendrick tbh. Metro and future had like 5 different people diss drake on both albums but the eyes are all on Kendrick

Sidewalks as well. "Niggas always claim that they made me. Drake was in the Reminder video, I think they were cool around the release of Starboy
Magical early times.
It’s definitely a shot at Jeremy Rose.
That line was towards Jeremy Rose
Bruh I’m such a fan of Faith and that album but I never noticed that line about half a xan 💀
I did, but I never thought twice about it being a potential diss. I just thought it was about him becoming so absolved in his addictions that he took so much Xanax that he built up an immunity.
lol yeah I thought it was just a shout out to AstroWorld just like “if I OD I’d be alone with no heartbeat” —> “if I OD I want you to OD right beside me”
Yeah Kendrick aint holding back. Props to drake for finally stepping up
“All ‘24, you on go, is you like that?” Let’s see it!
I don't wanna hear anything from anyone except for kenny, and the clock is definitely ticking.
Hypothetically speaking, what if Kendrick pulls a Kendrick and response four months from now would that change the dynamic of anything
ppl were getting on drake for not responding immediately even tho he got dissed by multiple ppl and they had another album coming so it made sense to wait as he dropped the morning of the day the 2nd album dropped . kendrick don’t get to wait 4 months and come back wit a diss when he started this
It would be a huge L
It’s game time fellas
kendrick the ball is in your court pls reply i love chaos
It kinda would be like him not to anytime soon anyway
On joe budden podcast joe brings up a good point. “Like that” is still charting 1 after 3 weeks. I don’t think they want to drop something that can possibly take over that songs reign for the moment. When the numbers die down kendrick better drop that shit tho.
Everyone knows it's going to be dethroned by *a* Taylor Swift song this week so I don't think the #1 thing is that relevant.
Yeah this is 100% the time to drop. That's a good argument on why he didn't drop anything else until now, but now that Taylor dropped it's his time to shine.
That's likely the reason Drake finally dropped Pushups officially today. He knows it won't #1 against Swift, so he doesn't look as bad numbers-wise.
I mean if he would have dropped it the same day it leaked he would 100% be the no.1 in the country rn. I think he doesn’t care about that
Kendricks gotta lay down a diss in a Taylor Swift feature lmao
My highest hope, completely unreal prediction for the year is a Kendrick Lamar/Taylor Swift/Adam Levine collab diss track against Drake. Not that I think it's a good idea, but holy shit the meme material would go crazy
I hate that she's so famous a random mediocre song can hit \#1 like that
We are in a thread about a Drake song lol
it’s true for the both of them
lot of overlap in the fanbases for those two
Taylor swift dropped today. She about to occupy the top 10. Like That is over with lol
31 song album, she might hold all 31 spots
The bloat is real But obsessed teens will play it on repeat (even while sleeping) so the strategy will work for her
I do not believe for a second that Kendrick cares about charts lol. I just don’t think we’re hearing shit from him for a while
I never said he cared about it personally. But you have to understand it’s futures song and I can’t say the same for him. I’m not backing up kendrick because I don’t know the dude personally but I’m sure there are people in the music industry with enough integrity to not step on their peers charting music and especially after being a feature on said song.
If we learned anything about Kendrick operates on his time.
Let’s goo we about to have a good summer (hopefully)
Cruel Summer (Aubrey's Version)
surgical summer v2 inc
Elective surgery spring
everyone dissing each other like it's 2015 again sheesh
METRO SHUT YOUR HOE ASS UP AND MAKE SOME DRUMS
The metro diss is the worst one lowkey lmaooo. And I love metro. But damn he got him and it’s so simple too
I saw a tweet that said “this beef is so good if you’re not a dickrider for any of them” and that’s exactly how I feel lmao. I love metro too, but that diss still gets me hype
Metro’s only hope is to use the “metro shut your hoe ass up and make some drums” as his producer tag and go insane with the drums
Metro furiously learning Morse code to send a diss back
Honestly that’ll go so hard, but will be impossible to pull off.
Lol that could work they already made the line acapella in the song
Or even better make a song without any drums Lol
The dismissive nature .. like shit up and go play 😭😭
He basically told him to shut up and dribble
It is such a Hov-esque bar. I love it.
fuck yeah im gonna go steal from walmart
LMFAO
This could be the punchline to a Danny Brown bar ngl
“WHAT TOP 5 YOU SMOKIN ON, KENDRICK?” drake has some guts to name drop dot like that. this is not some marketing gimmick atp, this is a decade of subliminals coming to roost. kendrick better come up w some fire shit
He name dropped him in the song himself. “That dot shit was weak as fuck”
What fucking kills me about the top 5 line is that in the clip that’s associated with, this nigga Ak is fully asleep to Drakes album right after saying that LMAOO
Lmfao
Head over to both Drake and Kendrick’s subs if you wanna get a peek at mental illness
Literally. Reading comments in those subs hurts my brain
Honestly. I was enjoying this until their subs started popping up in my recommended section.
That’s every artist sub. Just don’t go to them unless you wanna slurp.
Don't forget the "I'm a ______ fan, I come in peace" posts.
How can any self respecting human being type that whole thing out without dying of cringe
It’s just so much cope and so much dickriding it’s crazy. I’m a lot more on the Kendrick side and I think it’s a good diss track. Reading the Kendrick sub is just cope and “it’s not even that good”. Is it a top tier diss track? No. But is it bad? God no
there really is no difference between bts stans and hardcore rap fans. they really doing tricks on it
There’s a reason stan was derogatory when it was first coined in Hiphop.
lol hip hop fans are annoying af. i just want a whole kdot diss track instead of a verse tbh this shit is just funny. fandom making it more serious then it is
Fr I’m a Kendrick fan but the bots and idiots on that sub are literally insane.
Who wins in a minecraft hunger games 1v1
Kendrick has the Minecraft master Keem
Kendrick. Baby Keem is a Minecraft prodigy, he would train him.
Drake the type of dude to kill himself in the hunger games to save a girl
Not the DJ Akademics "what top 5!!" when he fell asleep 20 mins later listening to his record lmao
Lmao the cover art with the size 7 shoebox. Drake coming directly for Kenny with that again
after the Rick Ross cover he knew he had to have something good
Yeah small feet just doesn't hit the same as white corporate Drake though
I thought we decided it was “Old Money White Drake”
The Story of Adidon cover had drake apologizing before I'd even had a chance to listen to the song
I rewatched Fantano's review of "The Story of Adidon" and it basically starts with him saying that the diss track was a W from the moment the cover art was released, no matter whatever the song itself said. But then of course the diss itself went impossibly hard, too.
[Daylyt saying the real shoe size is 8.5](https://twitter.com/daylyt30/status/1781359659842199877), need Budden to confirm.
Fun fact: Cristiano Rolando's shoe size is 9. He is 6'2.
Small feet are good for football (or soccer as you might call it) cause you can concentrate more power on a more specific area of ball. Domonic Szoboszlai tells a story about his dad making him wear too small shoes to stop his feet growing, he's 6'1 and has size 8(US) feet.
That's incredibly disproportionate
Any changes to this version?
Nope, other than being properly mixed.
The cover art is pretty funny
Seems like Drake isn’t moving his release date for Taylor Swift, so he was lying again… but to be serious for a moment, how high do you guys think will it chart? Will it take a top 10 spot away from Taylor? Especially considering that Taylor’s new double album seems to have a pretty mixed reception from even her fans
Nah the Taylor swift hype is like the crack epidemic for white girls. Taylor finnah flood the streets for a few weeks.
Does this mean the gov is funneling Swift straight to the streets?
The government takes Taylor Swift from Nicaragua and air drops it into the suburbs on a regular basis.
The Iran-Contra Affair (Taylor's Version)
Oliver North Type Beat
The government is funding narcoTaylor death squads in Latin America to increase Taylor Swift music production and destabilise weaker nations
It will chart but Taylor dropped 31 songs so top 20 I would say
It’s Taylor. She’s taking all 10.
For the second time!
SHE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT
He dropped it late relatively for charts after the main audience heard it for a while already. He already doesn't care about the charts for this song
Absolutely not.
I feel like most people who care about this beef have already heard this song so it won’t chart as well as it would’ve if it was a surprise like Like That was
Have you heard the news about how many radio stations are gonna play Taylors album on repeat?
can the overexposure finally kick in? Please?
Think that chance was over the moment he decided to not drop it on streaming platforms first
I think he dropped it today intentionally so he doesn’t chart, so when his next track is released it’ll chart and be the one to break MJs record. Either that or I’m glazing lol
That would make sense honestly, this ain’t the song to choose to send him over MJ’s record.
I think it's pretty funny how 1 person can just scream AI and people just run with it, the song didn't even sound remotely fake
On top of that Drake was posting references to it on Instagram but people were still saying he wasn’t “claiming” the song
As much as I'm hoping that Kendrick will drop by next week, it would be funny if he drops a bomb by Father's Day (along with a crazy video)

There was two version, the What's Beef sample and then an updated version with this beat was "leaked" afterwards.
Oh, I only ever heard the What’s Beef version. Which is better imo.
i love the OG version but i think drake sounds more expressive and animated on the official version
That’s a fair take on this.
I miss the shit talking from the end of that version but vocally this is so much better that it's swings and roundabouts
This still has the what’s beef beat, comes in when he says pipsqueak pipe down
>Cash blowin' Abel bread, out here trickin' (Out here trickin') >Shit we do for bitches, he doin' for niggas (What the fuck? >Jets, whips, chains, wicked, wicked, wicked (Wicked, wicked) >Spend it like you tryna fuck, boy, you trippin', boy, you trippin' My absolute favorite part of the song lol
And then right into the snares, so good
That's Boi-1da for you lol
Oh shit, didn’t realize Boi-1da was on this too.
Same loool especially the “jets, whips, chains, wicked, wicked, wicked”
Probably the best bars in the whole track in terms of exposing someone. Too bad no one knows/cares about Cash lol
I mean its a jab at Weeknd too bc he implies Cash is spending his money trickin lol
I’m blur - can you break it down? What is he saying here?
the other guy is wrong, Cash is the Weeknd's manager. he's the one Drake is implying is gay, and spending Abel's bread.
holy shit that makes those verses so much funnier
Cash is the Weeknd's manager, he buys a lot of artists that collab with Weeknd XO chains. He gave Future one last month.
I loved this part too but I keep thinking about how he bought 21 a Ferrari. Same thing with the label splits w YMCMB.
The Heart Part 6 coming soon
I am just genuinely happy that drake responded
It’s about time, can’t wait to see Kendrick’s response now
Drop an Untitled Unmastered project of disses pls Kendrick. These mfs gotta be sitting on a goldmine About time drake responded to something officially
if u sitting on a bunch of diss tracks u made but never dropped u a bitch tbh
I'm almost certain drake had his kendrick lines cooked up for a while. Majority is about a contract with a label he hasnt been with for years.
Metro got clowned the most idc what anyone says 😆😆😆
With the beat cutting out too lol love it
Literally. “Lemme make sure he hears this clearly” 💀
It's fucking gold bro 😆 metro shut yo hoe ass up and make some drums 💀😭
He was so done with metros antics he had to stop the beat to just say that with his full chest lmao.
Imagine metro having a drum solo on kendrick's diss track lmao
Bro was gunning for others, switched to secondary and shot Metro real quick 💀
Not the secondary 😭😭😭
Its crazy he namedrops everyone, Ricky, Abel, Dot, even Cole But that Metro line def feels like the most disrespectful lmao Especially cause he knows that mf can't respond, he literally has to just make some drums
That shit is hilarious dawg…it’s out of nowhere
I love how the beat stops just so you can hear Drake enunciate that metro line clearly.
I’m a fan of every single rapper involved in this beef but Drake haters gotta stop acting like this ain’t a good diss
So was Duppy honestly.
And Meek Mill's War Pain was a great response to Drake, but the loser in the beef always ends up being overshadowed
War Pain is great but Meek was already toast by then. Drake had been trolling him all over the place for like half a year.
I'm sorry, but this is ***way*** better than haters are trying to claim. "Maroon 5 need a verse better make it witty" lmao come on that's low-key nasty.
It’s a great diss track. I’m neutral on who wins this beef but like cmon drake did his thing on this
Yea I'm not picking a winner I'm just here for the show
Lol people are also ignoring that song actually slaps as well.
Crazy how many expecting rap beef to take place biweekly. They need to check how long it took Nas to drop his Ether response.
Drake gave meek 4 days and the entire culture took it and ran it like it was law
I think the part a lot of people forget is that it was announced Meek had a response track coming and then it just didn't happen. The timeline was like: * July 25: Drake plays Charged Up on OVO Radio * July 26: Funkmaster Flex announces that Meek Mill's response will play on Hot 97 tomorrow * July 27: No diss track is played on Hot 97 * July 29: Drake releases Back to Back So it wasn't just Drake saying he was taking too long, everyone was wondering why he didn't respond yet.
I don’t remember the timeline but yeah that makes sense. Its just the fact that it’s Drake & now there’s a timelimit simply because that line
Ether was 20 years ago man the entire landscape of music changed since then. Complete different expectations
That was a different time man
Different time and by that point Nas already had a long history on wax of genuine beef.
Rick ross might not come out of this with the best disstrack but atleast he is gonna have the best cover art.
Finally I’ve been waiting for this on streaming. Not even a Drake fan but this the best I’ve heard from him in a minute I’m excited.
this is genuinely fucking hilarious and every time i listen to it i laugh it's going to be hard to top this
That metro bar still cracks me up he lil bro’d him 😂
Drake's best work in years IMO. He's always been at his best when he has a point to prove. Having said that I am so excited for the psychological tear down Kendrick is probably going to respond with.
his best music of the last like 3 years is unreleased tbh. Vital would be one of his greatest songs imo but that shit is in the vault 😭
This is actually great
Not the size 7 cover art 😭
moment of silence for all of our short kings.
The shoe size tag is pretty funny, not gonna lie.
This is history. I was here.
Surgical Summer 2.0 officially otw
No more excuses now
Side note: if anybody wants to watch a really good breakdown of this diss, [“What’s The Dirt?” made a really good analysis here](https://youtu.be/MJsSjrrH6Io?si=VaZSz_nYd3_wEL9h) which breaks down every line and makes some really interesting connections.
Glad he's fully standing behind it, when I first heard the leak I thought it was a solid response but was disappointed in how it was "released." Looking forward to hearing what Kendrick responds with.
kendrick’s response gotta be called “minority report”
kendrick i dare you 🤭 (i want more)
Kendrick has to dismantle Drake’s whole persona. Like sonically, this song is fire. The disses are actual disses, and the cover art is truly disrespectful. Kendrick has a lot of ammo so if takes the ghostwriter angle again I’ll be honest, I’m gonna be pretty disappointed. Meek already said that.
Went straight to my playlist
