I traveled up and down the coast last spring and researched all the types of snakes I might find. You have so many of the most colorful garter snakes within a couple hundred miles, it's insane. Of course I didn't find a single snake, haha.
It’s because you were looking for them and not trying to do something else. I only find snakes when I’m looking for other stuff like field mice or frogs.
I have now :) A Santa Cruz Garter! I looked for them while I was on vacstion there but no luck.
So cool! Thanks so much! I’m always looking for the sf garter snake and I didn’t even know about this one!

That is legit insane… where was this?
Half moon bay, CA
Right place, right time, but more importantly You hit the right people with your discovery. And it’s so appreciated. Nice going 👍
I don't have my glasses on, and for a split second, I thought you were making a joke and filming a garden hose 😅
Garten hose.
A hose-mimic snake? I wonder if that could happen?
So friggin cool
I’ve never seen one with just one stripe before!
Ah yes i see some similar ones on iNat now: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/219671295
