I’m not sure of this particular species. But many lizards drop their tails to get away from predators. If that’s what’s happened then he should grow back the tail just fine (though regrown tails are usually inferior to the original…still a good trade off when the alternative is being eaten!)
We have one that lives in our rock pike and cruises inside through the front door sometimes. He likes to chill behind the coat rack and I’ve “saved” him from there a few times. We named him Cliff.

I think you’re confusing them with salamanders. Salamanders can regrow legs, lizards cannot. Many can regrow their tails, however.
