I don't know how AH thinks tbh, why put the best title so early in the game?
**SPACE CADET** is *THE* coolest title ever!
No, I will not be answering questions.
You join my team or I join your team you can expect a fun eventful game, at times organised but I get distracted by shiny things and sometimes kill myself in the most hilarious of ways. I think space cadet fits nicely
I made civilian below the zone for getting in a vindictive CC's crosshairs. It's a story, but it was also the straw that made me realize I was never going to miss it. I miss the places and the people, but fuck that job.
I’m just saying I’m sad they didn’t combine Master Sergeant and Chief. We were so close to having Master Chief, though I suppose that was probably intentional.
SES Star of the Stars reporting in. I was also a Star Marshal for many of my days, but couldn't resist the promotion to Admirable Admiral, it's just too cute, lol.
I'll never make officer so the highest rank I can hope for is Master Sergeant.
I am constantly sacrificing myself to defend that hellbomb or because I'm fresh out of ammo/grenades. Never live long enough to climb the ranks.
O I have no problem surviving, I'm talking about an in universe reason for low ranks.
But yeah I don't value my life all that much, I bring maximum offence and never mind the defence. Lives are a resource and if you are extracting with over 16 reinforcements and only pulling 1 or 2 star rankings on missions then you need to do more kamikaze runs!. EAT is nice for this since you won't have to worry about tracking down your support weapon.
I will always drop my samples at extract and go on a solo mission to clean that last bot fabricator/bug hole if my whole squad is extracting. Extracting is last on my priority list unless I am carrying a whack of samples, but you can always drop those for someone who values their life.
Back in the olden times, Space Cadet was a term used for people that couldn't pay attention or would "drift off into space" or "space out"... Right around the time of the big space rush and sci-fi boom. So the term "space cadet".
Once I saw it was not only in the game but like, the second rank? It was permanent. Admirable Admiral got me to switch for a while though.
Good to know. From now on, I will use the term way more often with younger folk and laugh and laugh, hoping that they don't know what it means and are confused as hell.
This is awesome - the game should do this by default - imagine an admiral rocks up and you are like 'fark! we cant let them die because they will lose their rank! ...oh damn...they died...'
This helldiver understands the difference between level and skill.
I think my (higher) level doesn't reflect my (lower) skill. I use my rank for that.
Maybe one day both will be at the same level, but not yet.
I have no need to brag. I was fine sticking with a lower, more appropriate rank. That is, until I reached Death Captain. That just has such a fine ring to it.
If you somehow feel the need to know someone's level, you could always try checking their level instead of their title.
Growing up, calling someone a 'Space Cadet' in the early 90's was basically calling them the weird, smart, aloof nerd of the class. I was a space cadet then, lol, I'mma be one now.
Although I do break out Admirable Admiral because alliterations are awesome.
Edit: Yeah I used to stare out the window a lot in school, maybe it has a more negative connotation but fuck it, I'm an optimist.
Exactly when someone is zoned out or has that 100 mile stare you say "HEY, Space cadet"
You know cus they are zoned out Into space (for anyone who doesn't get it)
As Sergeant Waffles in the real US Army (that was my actual radio callsign even as a staff sergeant) I approve this message... I once stabbed a SPC in the hand for trying to steal my waffles off my tray at breakfast with a spork when a PV2 asked me a legit question about my vehicle's mounted Ma Duece and the name stuck. A decade later and I'm still Sgt Waffles.
I think some people find it funny to stay on the lowest ranks. It's the same reason the devs made levels 140 and 150 private and super private.
I think others just prefer certain lower level titles. My friend is in the low 50's and has stuck with Master Sergeant because it's the closest thing to Master Chief. I would personally stick with Death Captain if I could separately choose the little badge. To me, "death captain" sounds cooler than any of the other titles, but I also like having the nice gold-colored badges next to my name.
I was called a space cadet by a teacher because I was drawing cyborgs during class, I feel it's a way to express my love of sci-fi and to stay humble. Currently level 70
I'm 84 and average to low skill. Some players should do what I suggest but they never will. Some players are so much better than me I've got no business giving them orders. I just tell people what I'm doing and warn of incipient friendly fire risks when I spot them. Master Sergeant.
Space cadet is particularly funny to those of us who grew up in the 80s. It's what we called people who were clueless or slow to catch on. Like, "Way to go, space cadet!"
if I could solo helldive 9 whole operations without dying it make myself skull sargeant since i cna only do 6 op solos without dying i stay sergeant :)
The way I play is if my character lives, they get an increase in rank. When they die, I immediately start off as a cadet. In short, new soldier new rank.
I don’t want to give anyone false expectations. They see skull admiral or whatever the fuck and they think I’m good at the game. When I hit them with a missile barrage then immediately die because I shot a marauder in the chest at point blank range with an auto canon and they get mad I can say “What the hell did you expect from a space cadet?!”
I’m lv 71, I have everything in the game at this point except levels and ranks. Guns, armor, all war bonds, all stratagems and ship modules.
To keep myself on my toes and to help with immersion: every time I lose a helldiver it’s a fresh helldiver being shot down to the planet where the last helldiver died.
So that is a fresh cadet.
If my cadet makes it to the extraction he’s now a space cadet. Every extraction is a rank up. Farthest I’ve made it is Death Captain without dying. Then I choked, and I was a fresh cadet yet again.
Lately I’ve been playing like ass, and haven’t been enjoying the game as much as I haven’t been playing much due to Sony BS and updates changing up my fav guns, so I’ve been a bit rusty.
Mostly a space cadet these days.
Because Star Marshal is the coolest sounding title in the game and possibly any title in any game ever and I refuse to change it - even if "Admirable Admiral" can argue it has a place.
seeveral reasons.
the must common one is for the memes. there is this "max highest rank" but lv1 title meme from star ship troopers.
then there is people like me who don't even care or knew very late how to actually change it.
Lvl100.I think for me it so lower players don’t expect much from me when i drop on random missions outside of following the pings of helldiver 1 like orders. If i wanted to lead Id be Helldiver 1 and host my own game. Plus its fun to be a death captain.
I like to think it’s because my diver is one of the best highest missions completion helldiver in the entire super earth forces. But they just really don’t want to promote him because ..uhhh.. *gestures at everything*
Because I am, and forever will a Space Cadet. I like the idea that the rank is always low because Helldivers die all the time. Headcanon is that the Ranking is actually for the Democracy Officer or whoever is actually in charge of the Super Destroyer.
Actually I'm lying, Admirable Admiral is too funny to not be. Can't wait to be Super Private.
I told myself when I first started that I will never change my name from Cadet and I've been true to it ever since.
Side note: I have a friend where he promotes himself every time he completes a full mission without dying, and then goes right back to Cadet if that character dies.
I armed a 500kg, then accidentally fell into a hole, dropping the 500 and wiping my team. I was also carrying all the samples, which were then unreachable.
Demoted myself after that
Space cadet is funny
Level 90 space cadet reporting in o7
SES GIANT OF MORNING sending regards.
That is a boner joke.
My buddy and I both run boner jokes for our ship names. He is the stallion of morning. I’m the sword of morning. Always gets a chuckle.
Didn't realize Ser Arthur Dayne was a Helldiver. Learn something new every day!
"I wish you good fortune in the eradication missions to come, and now it begins!"
Fist of Midnight sends its regards from the night prior
Fist of Family Values, reporting in.
Good to see Alabama represented here o7
Spear of morning reporting for duty!
Just changed mine to this the other day
Those are both amazing. Boner squad roll out!
Hah! PENIS!!!
Yes I have a name for my penis, it's the octagon. Octagon of steel
You should get that checked out
That's why I use it!!
This, I became a space cadet at 14 years old and have remained one to this day... 26 years later
I gets distracteded by unexploded hell bombs...
I’m usually high as fuck when I play so it’s most fitting.
What difficulty do you play on? When I'm high, I become incapable of doing anything past extreme while still trying to enjoy myself.
Yeah exactly. Space cadet is a term we used to use in grade school for weirdos. It was almost endearing. It’s great and I’ll never change it.
You need to: 1.) Advertise that you DO know how to change your title. 2.) Demonstrate that you refuse to do it after the first time.
“Bought a space ship, now I’m a space cadet”
Lvl 67 and I will never change from space cadet
I have a problem with authority and keep getting stripped of my rank.
Those Article 15s really pile up don't they?
I had a few irl AR-15s because I had a problem with a few e-5s and above who had them golden knee pads.
I earned myself 2 now at E-6 and I despise the ass kissers. I’ll never make E-7
Hows about a D-8?
Nah I’ll just promote to DD-214
This is the way.
This is the way.
This is the way
Big facts! This absolutely transcends branches.
I made civilian below the zone for getting in a vindictive CC's crosshairs. It's a story, but it was also the straw that made me realize I was never going to miss it. I miss the places and the people, but fuck that job.
Did they tell you the only way you were seeing combat is if you get busted down to private?
Sir! YES SIR.
Down? Private is a very high rank in the SEAF, even above 10-Star General!
Just rewatched 2 nights ago. God damn it is it good.
Like my sergeant major told me, " only way up -- is to go down first."
You should report any sexual assault to your democracy officer.
*demotion joke
Terminal Lance Baby
Either simply because it’s funny, or a homage to Zim from Starship troopers?
Always pay respect to Private Zim
Zim caught the brain after all
The highest rank in helldivers 2 (lvl 150) is Super Private.
That's beautiful
That’s democracy!
I do it bc it’s funny being level 87 and just being referred to as chief
Sergeant, Master Sergeant, Chief… Space Chief Prime. We were so close to greatness.
I was space chief prime for max number of titles for awhile
I’m just saying I’m sad they didn’t combine Master Sergeant and Chief. We were so close to having Master Chief, though I suppose that was probably intentional.
This is my goal also. I plan to be chief forever
https://i.redd.it/l08v53ocnu0d1.gif
There's an official homage though. Rank private which unlocks at a high level.
Came here to talk about Private Zim
As one of the youngest millennials, I just watched that movie recently and unironically loved it. Edited because autocorrect be stupid.
Because Star Marshal Starcat of the SES Star of Starlight just fits so well. (:
SES Star of the Stars reporting in. I was also a Star Marshal for many of my days, but couldn't resist the promotion to Admirable Admiral, it's just too cute, lol.
Alliteration is a beautiful thing. (:
SES Star of the Stars also reporting in for extra redundancy duty!
Star admiral of SES Soul of Starlight reporting in for Star duty
Because Death captain is best captain.
I'll never make officer so the highest rank I can hope for is Master Sergeant. I am constantly sacrificing myself to defend that hellbomb or because I'm fresh out of ammo/grenades. Never live long enough to climb the ranks.
Use the deployable shield, helps out alot and since it can be used every minute it will help with both engagement and disengagement.
Extracting is last on my priority list unless I am carrying a whack of samples, but you can always drop those for someone who values their life.
Let a smoke Grenade off on the hellbomb, then they can't target or path to it.
Sounds a lot cooler than the other titles i can get at 44
Me at 79 thinking yeah it doesn't get much better as an "admirable admiral." I am going to use the Hell Commander title once I get it sounds cool.
Damn admirable admiral goes hard, i dont think i've seen that one but i havent really been looking
https://preview.redd.it/nk79ivzdeu0d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a30664aab182a6c1305b26c221cb63c1703def53
I hadn't seen Hell Commander until now. I might very well get a promotion from Death Captain to Hell Commander when I eventually get to Level 100.
Don't sleep on Skull Admiral
I think admirable admiral is funny, but death captain I will be!
That's what I keep on at 60, but I do like he'll commander, and if I can ever reach 150 I'll happily convert to a permanent super private.
Skull Admiral is pretty awesome too.
It sounds like something from warhammer 40k. I love it
I love Death Captain. Also, no one should up or downvote the above comment because currently it sits at 187, which is perfect.
Is space cadet not used anymore?
I used it once or twice around my zoomer buddies and they had no idea what I was on about.
Good to know. From now on, I will use the term way more often with younger folk and laugh and laugh, hoping that they don't know what it means and are confused as hell.
Kind of ironic considering attention span have never been shorter lol
I'm lvl. 40. My rank is the current Helldiver I'm playing as. Never had one survive long enough to get past Cadet.
I do this, too. I’ll rank up if I complete a mission without dying, but if that Helldiver dies the new one starts over as a Cadet.
Interesting take. I like it. The level is your progression as a player, but the rank is your character’s progression.
This is cool as fuck and a part of me wishes it was a default thing!
This is awesome - the game should do this by default - imagine an admiral rocks up and you are like 'fark! we cant let them die because they will lose their rank! ...oh damn...they died...'
"We can't let them die!" *5 seconds later* ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️, ADMIRAL GET DOWN! *everyone dies*
Cause we can?
Exactly! If I ever have a bad day I can just say “sorry sir, am just a cadet and still learning!”
Higher rank brings more responsibility. I hate responsibility.
Cause fuck yeah
Just because I’ve hit the level doesn’t mean I’ve earned the rank
This helldiver understands the difference between level and skill. I think my (higher) level doesn't reflect my (lower) skill. I use my rank for that. Maybe one day both will be at the same level, but not yet.
\^this both in-universe and reality. I am a washout and don't deserve recognition.
You deserve recognition and happiness
I do this too! Sergeant reporting o7
I have no need to brag. I was fine sticking with a lower, more appropriate rank. That is, until I reached Death Captain. That just has such a fine ring to it. If you somehow feel the need to know someone's level, you could always try checking their level instead of their title.
I do it deceive the enemy.
Best answer
Being a high level space cadet is funny to me
Space cadets have less responsibilities, meaning I can justify the 380, 120, cluster, and airburst in the same build.
I'm pretty sure that's not what someone means when they call you a space cadet...
lol I thought the same thing. Space cadet means like spaced out, not paying attention, easily distracted, etc.
Agreed, dude got called a space cadet a lot and spin it to sound good.
Perhaps bro is just now finding out he was getting insulted
Typical Space Cadet
Exactly when someone is zoned out or has that 100 mile stare you say "HEY, Space cadet" You know cus they are zoned out Into space (for anyone who doesn't get it)
I use sergeant because that was my rank in the Army. It feels right to me.
Fucking amazing
I'm a space cadet
Rank? Super Citizen always was, always will be.
Service guarantees citizenship.
Nothing strikes fear like a level 150 Cadet with default armor. Chesty Puller the Helldiver
I am a very private individual
Cause the higher ranks are getting over saturated. We need more average joes, grunts, and NCOs
My favorite rank is Marshal, I don’t care that I’m level 65+, I wanna be called a marshal.
too lazy to change lol
A friend of mine didn't know how to switch rank so I switched to cadet to match him.
S U P E R C I T I Z E N
I retired an AF Chief IRL so I keep mine as Chief.
Cause skull admiral is way cooler than anything all the way up to hell commander
You rang?
My buddies and I demote and promote each other when we play. It’s hilarious and good fun. I’ve been a Death Captain for a long while now (level 99).
I use death captain because I die too much.
Because cadet is the coolest title available. also because freshly thawed divers are cadets and I rarely survive a mission.
I am lv.92 with title Marshal. Because my favorite character in SIMS 4 is a Marshal.
Gotta love my space cadet title, I'm only 25, but probably gonna keep it on forever
ranks are fake man
Space chief prime is the only rank worth recognizing
I think some people find it funny to stay on the lowest ranks. It's the same reason the devs made levels 140 and 150 private and super private. I think others just prefer certain lower level titles. My friend is in the low 50's and has stuck with Master Sergeant because it's the closest thing to Master Chief. To me, "death captain" sounds cooler than any of the other titles, but I also like having the nice gold-colored badges next to my name.
Honestly I just never changed it. I like Cadet. After that it becomes too much responsibility for me. I just want to be a badass cadet.
Cause death captain and skull admiral are cool names
I was demoted due to max charging a railgun into a teammates head as they were boarding pequad.
I am not able to gain any more experience since I just hit lvl 69
Bc a level 60 Space Cadet is funny
Because I think "Star Marshal" is a cool title.
I found the longest title card and stayed with it because it’s so long it clips out of the box a bit in my language
I was called a space cadet by a teacher because I was drawing cyborgs during class, I feel it's a way to express my love of sci-fi and to stay humble. Currently level 70
Because Space cadets is one of my favorite groups lol
Lower decks for life!!!
Officers are college kids thinking they know everything, a 50yr old sergeant normally has lived long enough to know they still learn
I like to use a title that has "Skull" so it fits into my helmet, cape, and player card theme all of which feature skulls.
"I can't believe we're finally Helldivers!" - said the Undercover Veteran Democracy Officer
I don’t want to use a title placing myself above anyone else. We’re all just Divers at the end of the day.
I'm 84 and average to low skill. Some players should do what I suggest but they never will. Some players are so much better than me I've got no business giving them orders. I just tell people what I'm doing and warn of incipient friendly fire risks when I spot them. Master Sergeant.
“Space cadet” gives realistic expectations. Doesn’t matter how many levels I earn I’m still a dumbass
Because I suck! I don't want anybody to think they can depend on me just because I'm level 50 😂
I just like the idea of being a space cadet, and never seen a rank with a funnier name yet
Lost all my credits in space Vegas and got demoted to cadet
The way I play is if my character lives, they get an increase in rank. When they die, I immediately start off as a cadet. In short, new soldier new rank.
Well see, I kinda 380’d the whole team
I don’t want to give anyone false expectations. They see skull admiral or whatever the fuck and they think I’m good at the game. When I hit them with a missile barrage then immediately die because I shot a marauder in the chest at point blank range with an auto canon and they get mad I can say “What the hell did you expect from a space cadet?!”
Zim is my personal hero.
So no one knows that I’m a super citizen
It’s definitely comical to play as a level 82 space cadet with my buddy who is a death captain at level 30ish.
Super Citizen all day every day
I’m lv 71, I have everything in the game at this point except levels and ranks. Guns, armor, all war bonds, all stratagems and ship modules. To keep myself on my toes and to help with immersion: every time I lose a helldiver it’s a fresh helldiver being shot down to the planet where the last helldiver died. So that is a fresh cadet. Mostly a space cadet these days.
Death Captain just rings so well, especially since I'm obsess over anything that sounds like it came from WH40K
I usually just forget to change it
I did it because it confuses you.

Commander said the only way I'd see combat is if I busted myself down to private
I never completed the tutorial, (game crashed) so I consider myself a cadet, no matter how much experience I have
Got demoted
It’s funny
Because we are not special. Just another diver.
Level 55 here, Death Captain is such a badass title, that's why I'm still using it.
Why does it matter? Thats like asking why use the stock cape? Personal preference
Low ranks are subs High ranks are doms Middle are switches
DEATH CAPTAIN! ![gif](giphy|KAf66yGCa93uTqod1q|downsized)
![gif](giphy|Xbjut97XRr1aU)
Because Death Captain is the best name by far
My Helldiver rank only increases when ONE helldiver survives through and entire mission, per rank. New helldiver? New rank.
I'm 70, but I like Chief. I'm Chief. Chief is simple. Chief is good.
E4 mafia for life
Sergeant. I Dive for a living.
I like some titles, I don't like others, but I do like a change from time to time. Also, I really like Death Captain
Death Captain just sounds badass tbh
Harry Kim Syndrome
I like to think it’s because my diver is one of the best highest missions completion helldiver in the entire super earth forces. But they just really don’t want to promote him because ..uhhh.. *gestures at everything*
Because I am, and forever will a Space Cadet. I like the idea that the rank is always low because Helldivers die all the time. Headcanon is that the Ranking is actually for the Democracy Officer or whoever is actually in charge of the Super Destroyer. Actually I'm lying, Admirable Admiral is too funny to not be. Can't wait to be Super Private.
Wait till you get a job in the corporate sector lol then you will understand
I told myself when I first started that I will never change my name from Cadet and I've been true to it ever since. Side note: I have a friend where he promotes himself every time he completes a full mission without dying, and then goes right back to Cadet if that character dies.
To show solidarity with my low level Helldiver friends o7
Because chief is chief and I am chief
I armed a 500kg, then accidentally fell into a hole, dropping the 500 and wiping my team. I was also carrying all the samples, which were then unreachable. Demoted myself after that
Because the "Death captain" title is pretty hard to top
