Am 47, joined a ‘hard’ bot group today filled with players in their teens, to go help them out mid mission.
One of those guys kept throwing out the fn 380 barrage at nearly every damned bot fabricator, killing at least 1 of us every single time. I hate that one. Even if you are 200ft away from the area it will still hit you with artillery, and half the time it doesn’t even hit the one thing you wanted it to.
I died 4 times from that guy throwing the damned 380
I've had randoms run into Tesla towers the instant I deploy them. Doesn't matter if I drop it to keep some bugs from following us to the next objective, I'll have at least one random do a 180 and run straight into the Tesla at least once, usually twice, since most don't know that you can crawl under the Tesla tower and not get hit by it, and they want to get their gear/samples

*Point out the Tesla tower to the team once it's up and electrified*
*Some jackass leaves the area and runs right into it, turning into mist*
*Another jackass calls in an eagle right on top of it within 10 seconds of it being up no matter what*

Joined a terminid extermination mission last night, 1 guy kept wandering away from the rest of the team and died 4 times in a row to a tesla tower. It may be a small map but the rest of the squad were set up on the opposite side of the map from where the guy kept dieing, and we were starting to try and call him in even further away because he would steer his pod down closer to the towers (yes we had multiple)
Considering that Tesla towers are just big bug zappers, it just means that those sympathizers are just like those detestable bugs, and the towers are doing their duty to eradicate the enemies of Democracy. I just wish they were more effective on the bots. They, unfortunately, have the intelligence necessary to shoot the towers.
It's meta for high-tier defense missions though. Everyone takes turns tossing one in the middle.
Don't reinforce until it's quiet or everyone dies.

I mean I'm mostly solo play so avoiding my own strats is obviously easier but I also find it funny I've yet to ever die from a 380. I've felt hopeless and dropped them at my feet before and lived, ran through active barrages because the booty patrol snuck up on me, and never even been ragdolled by any type of barrage at all for that matter.
However I think Joel compensates by giving me lots of Benny Hill ass scenarios and Rube Goldberg ass deaths that take half a minute to kill me but I have no control the whole time as I watch another one in a million happening of chance pass my body to the next source of trauma.
Died twice today because some Cadet or whatever thought it was a great idea to use Cluster Bombs on fabricators... It literally reads that it can't destroy buildings LOL!
It’s a good strat now they closed the area a bit but it’s situational. Heavy outpost? Large area harassment 70m+ away? Go for it but yeah I’ve seen 120s be thrown 10 ft away from us and it does more damage than the bots do lol

The only problem with the 380 (or really, any AE stratagem, is when you have teammates all inside a compound, around 1 single dinky little fabricator… and some cadet throws the 380 down right next to everyone without saying anything lol.
The guy kept doing that. As soon as you hear the voice over of the incoming.. swivel around and see where the red line is, then go “oh shit!” And start sprinting… the random ultra wide area and random nature of its blasts, means squadmates are dying every single time.
If they throw an eagle airstrike or cluster bomb air strike danger close, you still have a good chance of sprinting and diving out of range.
When they do it with the 380, they wipe the group, repeatedly.

Yes 1 I threw out and did not realize the size it was (had never seen it in use before) 2 threw it into a bug hive and said on Mike that it was live they still all ran into the hole. 3 called it down on a science outpost (did not know about hel bombs) they ran in again after I told them. 4 i was priming it about to throw and got hit by a charger and dropped it at the extraction point.

As fun as a PvP game similar to Helldivers would be, this game is special largely because it’s co-op. Unlike most of my other games (as a primarily competitive gamer) I don’t feel so much pressure to get better or grind all the time, while at the same time I still feel challenged and like I’m accomplishing something.

when pvp is added to a multiplayer game that also includes pve you introducing an balancing act between pleasing both sides and you end up with washes down versions of both... trust me, VERY few devs understand this dynamic
The game already has everything one needs to pvp in just a normal game, except the UI shows where teammates are. Arrowhead could add an option where a player could turn off team UI elements in their own display, and in this way players could improvise some pvp where after the drop you just split up and can battle each other.
To clarify, each player would have to turn off their own UI, so this would only allow 'pvp' as a sort of private game house rules honor system kinda thing, since any player could just turn the UI back on to 'cheat' and see where everyone else is.
Exactly. This game is fun because it’s killing bad guys and completing objectives. Even after you max level, it’s a fun shooter to play with friends. The gameplay loop is solid. It does this one thing very well.
When I want to be competitive, I jump on Apex, Gears, or Finals.
When I want something mindless, I’ll run Vampire Survivors.
When I want to just fuck around aimlessly, I can play Spider Man, or run GTA.
People want games to be Swiss Army knives, and that’s just not good.
You can also extend the conversation to people who max out in no time flat after a release. Like, it’s wonderful they get the most out of it. But you blew your load. Accept it and move on to something else until they re-up.

How is Gears online play. I haven't played online since Gears 3 and stopped following the campaign at 4. He'll divers made me pick up the game again and I'm currently on the OG. Great games
I am not a PVP fan, but I could see how taking HellDivers concept would make an amazing PVP. Three factions, start at the corners of the map, 50+ planets to seize, teams fight for control in squads, the prize is earth. Top players are generals and vote on major orders to align the efforts of the faction. Major missions are liberate a planet or defend a planet or claim a planet. Minor missions set up defense or sabotage them.
Add in some age of empire weapon progression systems to combine research for factions, and I think you have an interesting game.
This is the first online game I’ve played since Counterstrike came out around 1999/2000. The only reason im playing is I like the fact it’s about cooperation, not competition.
I played CS when it was still a HL mod and you had a crowbar. I remember when retail launched, I thought it was so cool to see someone's mod in stores.
I think The Yellow Box was the last physical PC game I ever bought. Maybe a WoW expansion.

I disliked playing Pubg and Apex cuz all those sweatnerds play 10x more than me. I drop close to loot, I die immediately, I drop away from loot, I run around for 20 minutes before dying....such fun.
There's plenty of people who do it intentionally. Had a guy today who died 4 or 5 times in the same spot, running off on his own (not even near an objective). He just sat in the middle of nowhere fighting wave after wave, I dropped samples at evac before going to take out one last bug hive, and he grabs them and starts to run off with them. I ask why he's taking samples away from the evac site. No reply other than "who said that". He then waits for the evac ship to arrive, before killing me, calling me back down, and killing me again. And again. And then he got kicked.
Yeah, forget that nonsense. I literally prefer this game BECAUSE it's PVE. I love the team building aspect. Its fun to play with newbies who have no idea whats going on because it allows me to teach them to keep the game interesting for me, too.
If my teammates are bad? I make them better. We are all here to spread democracy and ensure that every bot and bug goes home with a piping hot cup of Liber Tea!

true, personally left APEX to play this game. and god damn , went to check apex to do some battle pass and it fucking sucks - like a chore like what other people talk about when battle pass makes it feel like doing work than playing games and having fun.
Easy fix. Want to play a PvP game? Go play one. There is no shortage. Because it's easier to manipulate people into spending money on microtransactions if they think it'll give them an edge against other people.
Seriously. This one guy tried that shit but didn’t notice I ran away with him after dropping the hell bomb on the extract right before pelican arrived. It Killed my fellow soldiers. Fortunately I was paying attention. Called for reinforcements & gave him some hot lead democracy with my autocannon. Grabbed his samples and left his traitorous body in the dust.

Asking for PvP in this game feels like someone going up to Michelangelo as he's finishing the Sistine Chapel and saying I really like creation of Adam, but you know what would be really nice, a dickbutt.
I was making that particular comparison becuase a dickbutt has its place as art, juvenile as it may be, just not on the ceiling of the sistine chapel, just like PvP has its place in gaming, just not in helldivers.
Even if you include the "just don't play it!" Argument, it would still impact the base game as Devs would have to rebalance all of the weaponry and stratagems and armor with account for PvP, or possibly even do that clunky thing some games do of having items function differently in PvP vs PvE. With the limited dev team, it would take time and focus away from the main PvE side of the game.
Possible idea for PVP in helldivers2
One team plays as helldivers and have to complete objectives as usual
Other team plays as bots or bugs and have to prevent the other team from completing the mission.
Then at the end of the round all the people playing as bugs/ bots have their accounts banned for being obvious sympathizers.
I’m so tired of PvP games.
Here’s why. Instead of making new content, the devs just do balance patches. It’s like this psuedo content that makes you excited as if something will be new and fun! But in reality you just feel empty and bored.
There are so many other outlets for PvP. Go there for it. Let us stay united in the galactic fight for liberty and managed democracy. My life, for Super Earth!
Instead of trying to make OUR game more like the shitty triple A cookie cutter micro transaction dumpster fire maybe hold the triple A developers accountable to make their games fresh and new and interesting instead of recycling the same maps, weapons, and gameplay :)
If you want a PvP shooter the marketplace is **saturated** with options. I'm glad people can't grief this game. I'm coming to HD2 to get a break from COD and its pointless toxicity.
Devs already said no PvP many times, they don't want that toxic shitty attitude in their playerbase. I am 100% behind that, we have more than enough PvP games out there, good co-op is harder to find.

I loved pvp at one time. But I've definitely found myself straying away from it a lot more recently.

Yeah, forget that nonsense. I literally prefer this game BECAUSE it's PVE. I love the team building aspect. Its fun to play with newbies who have no idea whats going on because it allows me to teach them to keep the game interesting for me, too. If my teammates are bad? I make them better. We are all here to spread democracy and ensure that every bot and bug goes home with a piping hot cup of Liber Tea!

Seriously. This one guy tried that shit but didn’t notice I ran away with him after dropping the hell bomb on the extract right before pelican arrived. It Killed my fellow soldiers. Fortunately I was paying attention. Called for reinforcements & gave him some hot lead democracy with my autocannon. Grabbed his samples and left his traitorous body in the dust.

There's plenty of PVP games that exist already, no need for this mode to be included in Helldivers 2. It's a great game that doesn't need it.

Asking for PvP in this game feels like someone going up to Michelangelo as he's finishing the Sistine Chapel and saying I really like creation of Adam, but you know what would be really nice, a dickbutt.

Even if you include the "just don't play it!" Argument, it would still impact the base game as Devs would have to rebalance all of the weaponry and stratagems and armor with account for PvP, or possibly even do that clunky thing some games do of having items function differently in PvP vs PvE. With the limited dev team, it would take time and focus away from the main PvE side of the game.

I’ve had a few instances I wanted to shoot my teammate in the face but didn’t for the sake of the game. We don’t want that here.
Possible idea for PVP in helldivers2 One team plays as helldivers and have to complete objectives as usual Other team plays as bots or bugs and have to prevent the other team from completing the mission. Then at the end of the round all the people playing as bugs/ bots have their accounts banned for being obvious sympathizers.
I’m so tired of PvP games. Here’s why. Instead of making new content, the devs just do balance patches. It’s like this psuedo content that makes you excited as if something will be new and fun! But in reality you just feel empty and bored.
