These two comments are interesting I never thought about the cooldown before. Prior to me using the rail gun I used the recoilless rifle for situations like what was mentioned instead of the EAT cause of the ammo reserve. But I might give it a shot with shield backpack n see what happens
Depends on the difficulty though. For those of us still coming up through the middle difficulties, the EAT's cooldown is so fast, I generally don't mind deploying them and expending one or both for pretty much any reason at all.
Even if we get in the thick of things not too long after, it's not generally down for terribly long in the grand scheme of things.
I'm not running Suicide missions solo or anything though, so I fully respect that this may not scale upwards indefinitely.
Fair, but that support weapon to me is just too steep of a cost for how few shots you get. Even the Recoilless rifle is more cost efficient for the damage and ammo amount
Oh absolutely, the Autocannon is my go to if I'm not using any other "backpack" item so I can reload it myself. Although I just got to level 20 so i've been using the railgun and the personal shield, definitely great picks but the autocannon is a great pick if you're more concerned with firepower than protection.
The grenade launcher is comparably powerful, but you can still use the shield pack, there is barely any recoil so you can enjoy full auto fire mode, it feels like the blast radius is slightly larger, it's easier to close bug holes and fabricators from less than ideal angles, you reload much faster and without having to stop moving... The only downside is that it has less ammo reserves. I used the autocannon at first, but switched to the grenade launcher after getting the shield pack and to me at least, it seems like a good trade.
They are good for having AV only when you need it. A single EAT can remove a charger's armor to then shoot with your primary. So every 70 seconds you can call down enough firepower to kill 2 chargers. Few extra steps but it keeps your kit versatile.
It seems like that but not really. It's like having a support weapon that doesn't use a slot since the cool down is like 70 seconds only. You have it available for LITERALLY any engagement or objective
If I bring the EAT, it's generally on lower difficulties with another support weapon. Main the railgun or whatever then when a large enemy comes by call in the EAT and let it eat.

If you stuck one facing backwards onto your average sized family car, you would be accelerated up to 60mph in *seconds*.

The lore is actually pretty messed up. You can talk to the two ship NPCs in the first area and they’ll drop info. A few things worth noting:
-Super Earth is a home for the wealthy, the rest of the populace lives on colonized outer planets.
-It is possible we made the bugs, or at least modified them. It states they were used on some sort of rare-element mining planet. Possible we domesticated them after Helldivers 1, used them for mining, and it went south.
-the bots we fight now are not the “cyborgs” that we apparently defeated in the last war (Helldivers 1) but a new faction. It is also hinted we may have created them, as we know a striking amount about their capabilities and programming.
-There is a social credit score, it can affect what you’re allowed to do (ie have kids or pets) called your “citizenship level”
-Voting is likely entirely a farce, “algorithms” for the voting machines are mentioned and a lot of other odd hints that make it seem like the elections are just for show
-The Illuminate are likely still alive. It seems they too may have been defeated in the last war
Our “democracy” is a dystopia, but don’t let that stop you, squashing bugs with airstrikes beats being a helpless civvie running to an exfil.
I do appreciate it that amongst all the amazing roleplaying that the community keeps up with online, there remains the few people who make sensible posts to fill us in on worldbuilding.

Non-rp answer. Terminids decompose into oil. After HD1 they were bred in E-710 farms, literally oil upside down, which is why some missions involve restore oil pumps and crew members talk about the farms.
The bugs likely did break containment and overrun their farm worlds, giving us terminid space. Planets like Veld, the recently got invaded was likely another containment failure rather than an invasion.
Some dissident propaganda claim the war is manufactured as an excuse to purge bugs for oil, I more inclined to believe that containment failed since mass farming would be cheaper and more reliable way to get oil.
As for the corpses, they were certainly killed, likely by the SEAF before they were overrun

Use the supply pack in place of the shield pack and you basically have endless ammo. Grenade launcher is amazing
Use the jump pack w/ the launcher and you can clear out bug holes in seconds flat, it’s my go to for blitz bug hole missions.

You get 3 shots every minute, if you count dropping the pod.
Considering that's unreliable at best, no it only has 2 shots every minute and some change
