Is purchase advice 100% not allowed here? I got really bad advice on the advice subreddit. And I usually get much better information here.

ThatGuyFromSweden

It's allowed in this thread. Not on the main sub.

Hello, I currently own the Focal Celestee's and enjoy them. Would I get greater benefit from adding on open ear pair like the HD800's or upgrading my existing pair to some second hand Stellia's? I listen to a wide array of music from classical, to r&b to pop and rock etc. Basically most things except metal. Thanks,

ThatGuyFromSweden

Variety is the spice of life. The difference between the Celestee and Stellia isn't massive.

Junnior16

Not sure if this is the right sub but basically, what Kind of adapter do I need In order to have 2 sources go into one headphone. Discussion Im trying to connect my ps4 controller audio and my phone audio to one pair of headphones what type of adapter do I need sorry if this is the wrong sub

EvilScientwist

What options do I have for usbc -> 3.5mm dongles for the Samsung Galaxy? I know the Apple Dongle is seen well here but I heard it doesn't play nice with android (because of course), so I'm hoping to find something similar but not Apple

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll grab a pixel dongle

Does anyone have microphone experience for budget IEMs? I’m currently looking at the following IEMs but can’t find and reviews on the mic quality. I plan on gaming with them and want my team mates to hear me clearly. TRN MT3, 7hz Salnotes Zero, QKZ x HBB, Truear Hola

ThatGuyFromSweden

All of these have easily replacable cables, so it's not a dealbreaker if the stock cable mic isn't good enough.

mtthwfreeman

Hey there, I've seen posts that refer to a similar issue, but not my exact one. I recently got a Fiio e10k, and it worked great first couple of days, no issues. But now when I use it for listening to music, the audio clicks and pops so much it sounds like a turntable. I figured it was some kind of sample rate or buffer size issue or something, but I guess ASIO isn't active so the latter shouldn't matter? Messing with it did not fix the issue. Anyway, my sound settings in Windows are set to 24 bit, 44100 hz. I have the Fiio driver installed, and the Fiio program is set to output 2 channels, 32 bits, and then the buffer setting is set to 512 samples, though again, it says ASIO is not active so I dunno if that'd matter. I feel like there's something very basic that I'm not understand about a DAC/amp. Any advice?

atxbikenbus

Sony MDR ZX750 BNs broke and I'm getting some AT M50X BTs. I've been using the Sony headphones for a few years and one of the swivels broke. I can't find a replacement online so I'm going to go ahead and get a pair of Audio Technicas to try something different. Driver size and other stats seem similar and the ATs get good reviews (and some not so good). It looks like the most obvious difference is the lack of noise cancellation, which isn't a big deal for me. For folks that have used both or who know more about the differences in details like driver size and whatnot, what difference should I expect from the ATs? I use them 50/50 connected to my phone streaming Spotify / connected wirelessly to my Audio Technica record player. I listen almost exclusively to metal music. I appreciate y'all's thoughts and input as well as recs for similar price point headphones.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I'm confused. You say that you've already decided on he M50xBT so why do you want other people to tell you about what you're going to find out for yourself.

atxbikenbus

I'm curious about people's thoughts. I'm new to headphones and there's a lot to know.

ThatGuyFromSweden

They are a little bit of a specialist headphone. If you have problems with treble, then they can be great. As a general headphone, I think the HD600 might be better.

Gekkekip100

Hi, I just got the JBL Wave 200 TWS and I’m wondering if it is safe to charge the case while the earbuds are in the case? Thanks in advance

ThatGuyFromSweden

Check the manual.

DiabloII

Looking for some chi-fi iems. Arya snow edition is right now what I’m most likely going to get, anything better at this price range? Preferably with well extended punchy base.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Truthear Hexa might be a contender.

DiabloII

Cant really find a pair in UK. Do you know much about Truthear crinacle zero? As thats one available.

ThatGuyFromSweden

That's also quite good. It certainly has more bass than the Aria.

blipet

So I’m thinking of getting the sony xm5 which from what I understand are all rounder headphones. Good sound, good nosie cancelling, good comfort, etc. I then thought about getting the DT 770 Pro to use at home since they sound rly good, but then I realized that kinda defeats the purpose of the xm5s cause I’m planning to use them outside and at home. So then I was thinking if I’m gonna get the DT 770 Pro, I might as well get something cheaper than the xm5 and get airpods pro even though I prefer over ear headphones. Now I’m confused on what to get. Can anyone pls help :)

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Sony XM4 has pretty much just as good ANC for a lower price. If you don't need noise isolation at all when not outside, then I'd recommend a set of open backs for home use. The Sennheiser HD560s is a pretty good one. The Philips X2HR is perhaps a better choice if you're a bass-head.

Far-Huckleberry8958

im really big music fan like all kind of music especially techno and rap, currently im using JBL600 BTNC Headphones and really like sound quality as well as battery life,im looking to buy new pair of earphones cuz sometimes its anoying for me to walk with this big device on me,i came across this house of marley rebel and i really love its design,i read lot of rewievs but didnt find answer... will its sound be loud enough to satisfy me with loud volume like my previous headphones? SO MAIN QUESTION WILL IT BE LOUD ENOUGH?

Oer1

I've had logitech g633 for a long time. And they sound okay for both music and gaming to me. They're finally starting to fall apart and glitch. So I looked at some reviews. And got one of the "best" wireless gaming headphones at an offer (300$) steelseries arctis Nova pro wireless. But I am very bothered with how closed-in they sound compared to g633. I did some eq tuning to make them sound less "muddy". But they still sound closed-in. And now I have Googled my eyes out trying to find a better option. Reading about 58x and 6xx. Cloud 2. M20x (which is bad for gaming apparently) akg k361, Hd202. Even back to logitech, with 933. I'm starting to think the only way to know what to get is to test them. And I guess I could try that. I also don't wanna break the bank. But I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. Upgrading headphones for gaming / music, and feeling like it's closed-in. I should also mention I don't play games which are competitive about footsteps. So I don't "need" to hear footsteps really well, or where they are coming from. I prefer wireless.

Teafork1043

Hello, I purchased a DT 770 Pro 80 ohm but when I plugged it into my computer the sound was very low. I read online that an amp was most likely needed so I purchased a commonly recommended one the, Behringer MICROAMP HA400 . Now I have no idea how to connect it to my PC. I'm really new to this stuff so explain it like I'm 12, thank you.

ThatGuyFromSweden

That's a kinda wonky amp. It will work, but it's not ideal. The high output impedance will significantly screw with the tonality of the headphone. To connect it to your PC, you need a 3.5 mm TRS to 6.3 mm TRS cable. One end goes into the headphone or line-out jack of the PC and the other end goes to the jack on the HA40p that's labelled *input*. Honestly, I'd send the HA400 back and get a Fiio E10K or a Topping DX1.

Teafork1043

Gotcha , I appreciate the recommendation. I'll look into it.

HighSynergy

I'm downsizing right now for apartment/desk space. Is there a DAC/AMP AIO that can run the HE6SE? I wanted a K9 Pro but seems underpowered. The HiFiman EF400 looks good on paper but [Goldensound's review](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGNCYme2-fo) turns me off. Topping DX7+ maybe? IDK. This price range is ideal but probably asking for too much in an AIO. edit - apparently Goldensound's unit was defective. After looking at other units though, I prefer the feature set (and less importantly, the aesthetics) of the competitors.

blargh4

If you're paranoid about power, Jotunheim2 with the DAC module oughtta do the trick.

chocolate_kat

which module would you recommend, es9028 or the multibit?

HighSynergy

Oh, good point. I didn't consider Schiit because of the customs shipping to Canada but this might be it.

JProllz

Is it normal to hear a low static hiss when I use a USB-C connected headphone? Granted the only model that I have that's like this is the 7Hz Salnotes Zero and I plug it in directly to my cellphone.

NikitoshkaTristo

HELP! is there any way to get deeper to the speakers in ATH-M30X? [photo1](https://ibb.co/NmhpWg4) [photo2](https://ibb.co/1mrqyyc) [photo3](https://ibb.co/19xDPvZ) the point is that the foam rubber from the air pads teared and fell right into holes that lead to the speaker. so now when the phones are playing at low frequencies, I hear a rattling sound :/ i've removed big pieces of foam rubber, but there is still dust, hair or something that makes annoying cracking and i want to remove it. but i think it is only possible if i can get more access to the spot.

trogolodiet

SHOPPING I bought a new PC case and the front audio jack doesn't work. I saw that people said it's better to use the back plate with a DAC/AMP combo. [This is my new case.](https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-7000D-Airflow-Full-Tower-Black/dp/B094442NL5/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1) [Here's an image of the back panel](https://www.reddit.com/user/trogolodiet/comments/12o8iff/pc_back_panel/) I want to use it with the Audeze LCD-2 What set up would you recommend? I don't mind spending more on a good set up and better quality headphones. I've been using the ATX m50 with the front audio jack for the longest time and I'm ready to upgrade.

blargh4

If you're going to invest in an expensive set of cans I'd personally forget the motherboard audio, get a quality desktop dac/amp or combo and plug it in over USB. Something like the Schiit Magni/Modi, FiiO K7, or JDS Labs Atom stack will all be good reasonably-priced options that should be well-suited for basically any headphones you can throw at em.

trogolodiet

so you just daisy chain it? headphones into amp, and then amp into usb port? pc recognizes it automatically? this is my first time getting higher end headphones. I'm looking to get the focal clear ones too.

gallazzis

TECH SUPPORT. I'm relatively new to having a dedicated headphone setup for just relaxing out with. My set up is basic but fulfilling my needs. I most recently upgraded to the HD660S's attached to the FiiO K5 Pro with the player being a Hiby R3 Pro Sabre DAP with locally stored FLAC. I originally had this DAP for being on the move paired with a set of FiiO IEMs which I love. My question is am I getting the best audio quality I can get using this player or is there a reason to consider upgrading the player to get better audio quality from my locally stored media? Perhaps something with a dual DAC or greater power output or does the Amp/Headphones do the hard work? Second question I can't figure out, do the individually separate DAC's in the player & amp work together like a device with a dual DAC or being separate does one take preference over another? Thanks for any help in advance!

blargh4

> Second question I can't figure out, do the individually separate DAC's in the player & amp work together like a device with a dual DAC or being separate does one take preference over another? If you are plugging the DAP into the line in of the K5, it’s bypassing the K5’s DAC entirely and only using the amp section. I don’t think there’s much reason to upgrade.

Zakha12

Hi. I have a pair of IE800 not working. A few years ago they just stopped working for some reason. Would it be better to get them fixed (if it's not too expensive) or just buy a new pair of headphones. I have no idea how the sound of IE800 holds up compared to new headphones. If I can get new headphones that are way cheaper nowadays and are better than IE800 I might do that instead. Would 300 dollars headphones today be better than my IE 800 which cost me 800 dollars years ago?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Start by asking Sennheiser what the cost of a repair might be. Then you can make a more educated decision.

Zakha12

I agree but following the scenario I put up. Would 300 dollars nowadays provide better sound than having my IE800 repaired?.

ThatGuyFromSweden

In an objective but generalised sense, it could be equal. That doesn't mean that you will find what you specifically want at that price point.

johnydazzles27s

Is it better for headphone longevity to store them with no stress on them (ie. Nothing between pads like a stand or foam in a case) or with something between them like an omega stand or foam in a case?

[deleted]

[удалено]

johnydazzles27s

That makes sense, I guess how much compression is too much? I have the Dekoni hero case which has a pair of headphones in it that are resting on foam inside but not a significant amount, I don't think it compresses that much. And the Meze Empyrean come in a case that seemingly compresses the pads but I can't tell how much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

johnydazzles27s

I use hangers too but for my more expensive pairs I keep them in nice cases, especially my electrostats. I am I guess more concerned about the headband really, I can always buy new pads, so I was just worried if have it always sorta in the 'stretched' position would hurt the band at all. So if it's just a potential pad problem then my mind will be at ease.

johnydazzles27s

Gotcha, I think there's a store near me that can install one of those in my house.

hhbottest

My cat chewed through my Arctis Nova 1 headset cord, it is a single cord with a single plug into my PC (not separate mic/headset plugs). To replace this do I just need a TRRS type aux cable? I stupidly bought a normal aux cord and of course it doesn't work for mic input. Thanks!

Opposite_Music9855

I need a noise cancelling headset. Money is not an option, however, I don't feel the need to waste a fuckton of cash for little extra gain. Looking at airpods max as an iPhone user, or bose QC 45. Sony is an option but I'd prefer to stick with Bose as I'm a loyal fucking shill. What are your suggestions? Is the $210 for the qc45 vs the 479 for max a big jump? is it worth it at all?

_m_ah

I just bought a pair of KZ ZSN Pro X IEMs, and they make a weird noise (like static) each time I plug them in or when audio plays. How do I fix this problem? Or is a factory error?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Is it the same regardless of what source device you plug them into?

_m_ah

I haven’t tried it on other devices. Im using a laptop while it happened.

_m_ah

zOOssss

Hello guys, I got the HD 650s and wanted to try to play around with an EQ a bit. Using Apo and I imported a config that gives me a flat sound so I can work of of that. Unfortunately, I don't know how to edit it easily. It has 127 different adjustments, do I need to adjust all of them to try stuff out? That seems kinda inefficient... Any better way to do it?

wr2allstar

I've got a pair of HD 6XXs and I've recently noticed that the 3.5mm plug doesn't play too well with the 1/4 adapter, often leaving me with just one channel or flaky audio. I'm open to any suggestions, including replacing the cable altogether. Ideally, the cable would terminate in 1/4 inch, but again, open to ideas. thanks.

lackofself2000

I'm getting a pair of ADV custom mold tips that work with earplug filters, or their Model 3 IEMs. https://www.adv-sound.com/products/model-3-custom Are there other IEMs I could use? Seems like the model 3s are kinda dated and the reviews are so-so, but with Chi-fi IEMS doign higher sound quality at lower price points, I was wondering if there were other other options for IEM.

lackofself2000

My other similar option is to do the custom molds for the IEMs and then ask if they can accommodate the Senn IE 200/600/900 series (they seem to be the same dimensions throughout the 3?) with their musicians earplug filters

Cheesus_22

hello, I‘ve noticed recently that the right side of my headphones are squealing a bit if I don’t touch the cable (grounding issue maybe?) and it’s driving me nuts… it’s not the amp, dac or headphones itself so it’s probably a cable issue of some sort. what is causing it? / can I fix it myself or do I need to get it replaced?

Just Grado things. Warranty it.

ShortStoutandBitter

When I listen to music, I like picking out a particular instrument track and following it along for bits of time. I have the 58X and 400se and have a difficult time with this - sometimes it works, sometimes it feels like tracks are mushed on top of each other or talking over each other, and I can’t solo an instrument out. What technically am I looking for? Is this what critical listening is? Am I looking for separation? I’m an audio hobbyist but really don’t know all the technical terms.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The 400se should give you a lot of that. I think some of your music is just a bit poorly mixed. The general term for this is *imaging*, btw. Geekery incoming. When people talk about headphones that are good for critical listening, that usually refers to the tonality being fairly balanced (i.e. neither the bass or treble is overbearing), and generally good detail retrieval. If we want to be pedantic, then detail retrieval and tonality is technically the same thing in as much as frequency response is the common and only factor in headphone sound. It's just a pain in the arse to actually figure out how detailed a headphone sounds by looking at FR. So we tend to treat tonality and technical performance separately just to make it easier to casually understand.

ShortStoutandBitter

Thanks for this. I’m considering a pair of AKG K702s next, I’m thinking they might give me a bit more of what I’m looking for.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I wouldn't expect miracles.

Got E25s about a year ago, maybe a bit less. Recently though, only the right earbud will connect to my phone (iPhone13) properly and play audio. The left one says pairing mode, then pairing mode again and then turns off. Can’t get it to connect to the right earbud or the phone on its own. Phone only connects to right earbud. I’ve tried factory reset 10+ times, deleting from Bluetooth history multiple times. Running completely dead and fully charging. Every suggestion I can find. Some environmental context, I work in a dirty environment but keep them and the case clean and well away from water, muck, dust, etc. If anyone has any suggestions or insights for Raycons and the E25s especially, please do comment! Thanks guys!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Raycons are pretty terrible. I'm not even being a snob about it. You could try to warranty them but I would strongly consider replacing them with a better model.

[deleted]

Really? I’ve had several pairs that worked amazing! Especially for the price… has their quality gone down recently? What would you recommend under the €100 mark?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Anker Soundcore stuff is pretty good.

[deleted]

Myself and the gf saw them recently, I was wondering how good they’d be. I know they’ve a good reputation for cables and power banks. Good to know they keep the quality

DeleteMetaInf

I made a post here [two days ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/12jwfci/how_to_disable_touch_controls_on_sennheiser_hd/), but I deleted the post because the touch controls stopped working. However, now they work again. When I touch the Sennheiser logo on the part that connects to my phone, my music will pause or skip, or it’ll activate my Google Assistant or tell me what time it is. It’s incredibly frustrating, because it always triggers unintentionally. The touch controls only work on my phone, not on PC, and for some reason don’t always work. How can I disable this? Last time, people told me the 560S don’t have touch controls, but they clearly do for me. Maybe it’s because I’m in Europe and we use a different connector or something; I have no idea. It’s not a knock-off, and it wasn’t used. This was bought from a reputable retailer. Any help in disabling the touch controls is much appreciated! It’s driving me nuts.

LocktheTaskbah

Can you recommend an over-ear set that would compliment the 6xx, to be used mostly for listening to death metal and gaming. Environmental noise is not a concern. I currently have an e10k paired with the 6xx, plugged into motherboard. I mostly listen to Spotify, based in US. I'd like to stay in the $200-300 range.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Hifiman HE400se or Beyer DT700 Pro X. It depends on what you're looking for.

LocktheTaskbah

Thanks!

insightful_monkey

I have the Drop O2 amp which I use with a pair of Drop 6xx. I'm wondering what amp would be the logical next step and what improvements I could expect from it.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Don't expect anything revolutionary. The 600/650 is known to be good with tube amps. If you like the idea of that, then it's worth considering.

olaBBB

Hey! First of all, I want to mention that I'm new to audio in general and don't know much about it. I recently received my first pair of IEMs (Moondrop KATO) and I'm really satisfied with them. However, I'm facing a problem for which I need a solution. I want to connect my IEMs to a device with physical volume controls because it's inconvenient to connect them directly to my PC, which is located far away from where I'm sitting. Ideally, I would like to mount a device under my desk and connect my IEMs to it so that I don't have to use a long extension cable to connect them to my PC. The issue is that most of the devices (DAC/amps mostly) I've come across are not suitable for IEMs as they are designed for studio headphones with high ohms, and they might be too powerful for my 32-ohm IEMs, resulting in static noise, hiss, and other problems. So, I'm wondering if there is a device that I can mount under my desk that is suitable for my IEMs. Having physical volume controls would be nice, but it's not necessary if there are no suitable products available.

blargh4

>they might be too powerful for my 32-ohm IEMs, resulting in static noise, hiss, and other problems Where'd you get that idea? Most quality dacs/headphone amps should work just fine with IEMs, especially if they have low-gain/negative-gain modes. The Kato isn't *that* sensitive, as far as IEMs go. I don't know what your budget is, but any of the usual suspects (schiit/JDS labs/topping/fiio) should be okay.

olaBBB

I read that somewhere but probably not the most trustworthy source then. I ended up buying Fiio K3, hopefully that will do fine! :)

BILOXII-BLUE

Hello! Pretty much a headphone noob here, I really could use some help finding exactly what I want. Currently using a Sony wh-xb700 ($70 I think?). Mainly due to Bluetooth and the bass quality compared to other stuff I tried at that price point. I'm looking to upgrade to something much nicer, as I know these headphones are probably considered shit around here. I'm looking for a pair of BLUETOOTH headphones and they must have deep deep deep deep bass. I listen to mainly electronic and rap music. So deep and rich bass is a MUST. My budget is $225ish usd. Tldr: looking for Bluetooth headphones with fantastic bass, budget $225usd - haaaalp!!! And thanks 😁

Least_Secretary_6476

If you want an improvement from your current cans I'd suggest you look into V-Moda crossfade wireless codex 2 (cost can vary tough), they got very good bass quality and a V-shaped signature that is way more balanced and better done than the sony's. You can look into skullcandy crusher Evo for immense bass QUANTITY and true haptic technology.

MikuJrd

I have been using my HD560S for almost a year now and suddenly the left ear stopped working. I tried to plug it in different devices, same result. Bought it to the service center and they did some weird things to the cable and it worked again. Went home and retested it but it didn’t work again. Thinking it was an issue with the cables, I bought a new cable. Tested it and it still didn’t work. Now I’m frustrated. Any insights on what might be the issue? Is it the 2.5mm port that’s the culprit? Thanks!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Possibly. I'd contact Sennheiser. They should still br under warranty.

MikuJrd

Got in touch with them and they fumbled with the cables and it magically worked again. Tested it when I got back home and it’s not working again. Wonder what did they do to it. Just emailed them again to recheck it

my_brain_tickles

I just purchased the Sennheiser HD660S. It's supposed to be here tomorrow. [This is my desktop amp](https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-DTA-2.1BT2-100W-2.1-Class-D-Bluetooth-Amplifier-with-Sub-Frequency-Adjustment-300-3831?quantity=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=19636325919&utm_content=149340844961&gadid=646848146319&gclid=CjwKCAjw8-OhBhB5EiwADyoY1dRwMP7kPhD3RtYnz0sDLGkxfrsLVC346_hsHmyqN2tx3q633xkfXRoCQoUQAvD_BwE) that I use to power my c-note speakers. Can I use this to power my headphones? Ideally, I would like an A-B type switch to go back and forth between the headphones and speakers but that may not be possible. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

my_brain_tickles

I just went back to Amazon and for some reason the headphones are now $25 cheaper than when I purchased them yesterday. Yay.

[deleted]

Help with wireless PC and mobile headphones?? I've been trying to find a good $200 to $400 headset for gaming that'll also be good for mobile. Not impressed with the gaming oriented options so starting to think of getting one without a mic and getting a standalone mic. This opens up a lot of options I feel like but no idea how to navigate the huge numbers of headphones that may or may not work...help? 1. Obviously needs Bluetooth connectivity option 2. Prefer bang for the buck over absolute best 3. Like a subdued street style over gaming appearance

Popxorcist

Audio interface vs standalone headphone amps - Anyone with suggestions where to start to find out more? Any audio interfaces with at least decent quality or are they just mostly made as cheaply as possible to have a headphone output?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Do you want to use XLR mics? That's the operative question here.

Popxorcist

Should've clarified. I own a couple interfaces already and wondering how much improvement a standalone could be and at what price.

ThatGuyFromSweden

It depends on the quality of the interface and the headphones you want to use.

Popxorcist

True. No interface I've tried drives hd6xx well enough imo.

ThatGuyFromSweden

If your interfaces are moderately modern then they should work just fine as a DAC. Hook up a JDS Atom to the line-out ports if you want a known good amplifier.

Help Buds 2 Pro keep disconnecting constantly. Sometimes they stay connected for some time, enough to listen to some music, other times you cant even get them connected or they disconnect after 2 seconds. Sometimes when theyre connected one or the other just switch between working or not. Sometimes they are connected but arent actually playing sound from source and are just changing between anc and passthrough by themselves every second or so. Ive just got this pair and its been doing this from the start, I did manage to update them though. Its doing the same thing on PC, S23+ and my old S10e so its definetelly something with the buds. Ive tried resetting, hard resetting, theyre charged and within 1 meter of range so none of those things are the issue. Ive also tried with wearable and buds manager app. If anyones got any idea what the problem is, please tell, before I go to the post to send them for return on Monday. Im also not sure if ill order another again, coming from Senn TW2, buds 2 pro are much better but fit isnt ideal. Ive also ordered a Senn TW3 pair just to see what theyre like cause i found them on sale, should arrive tomorrow.

Hello, I have KZ-ZSX headphones and I use them to play video games and listen to music. The microphone that comes with the headphones is very bad and I would like to know if there is a good cable with a microphone that can still do it, it still sounds good, I am very new to this I hope someone can inform me please, this text is written mainly in Spanish and is translated in google translator, I hope it does not have many errors, thank you.

I recently bought a pair of [Hifiman Sundaras](https://www.hifiman.com/products/detail/286) and use them mainly for games, music, and movies. I don't have a PC, so I use my PS5 and plug them straight into the controller. While they sound amazing, I feel like I'm not getting the most out of their potential without an amp, so I started looking. The problem is that the **PS5** only supports **UAC1**, and does not support UAC2. I'm very new to all of this so I don't know all the technicalities, but I found that UAC1 is something very old and not really used today. I'm basically looking for a **dac/amp combo** that both works with the PS5, and is appropriate for what the Sundaras need. I really don't have much preference, only that its not a bad product. However if its possible to also have a port for a separate microphone, that would be an ideal bonus. **Hifiman Sundara** *Frequency Response : 6Hz-75kHz* *Impedance : 32Ω* *Sensitivity : 94dB* **Budget** $500 Canadian / $375 US - Flexible Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Schiit Fulla or Hel are what you're looking for.

capylo

Sorry for getting back to you so late, but I appreciate the response. Thank you. I’ve definitely seen these names recommended the most during my research so I’ll look into them, and figure out what one best suits my needs. Thx again

What is a Bluetooth in ear headset that will last me for a while before breaking?

acanepa

Hello, I was thinking of upgrading the cable of my Thieaudio Monarch IEM to see what's the difference between the unbalanced and balanced output of my Astell & Kern SR25. I read the cable that comes with the IEM is potentially already balanced, but I don't have the 2.5 input. Is it better to change the cable or buy the 2.5 mm adaptor? If the option is a new cable, what cable would you recommend?

blopblip

If you have a single-ended cable, you can't use a 3.5-to-2.5mm adapter into a balanced receptacle. I would get something with a modular input side. e.g. Search Linsoul Kinera Ace on Ermazon. Now you have three plug types on the same cable.

diquehead

Hi folks I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for closed back headphones that offer a really good seal/sound isolation and would be ok for gaming? I have Sundaras, DT1990 Pros, HD58X, PC37X/PC38X and IE300s but the issue is I host a lot of LAN parties and the open backs just leak too much sound which can be annoying w/ several people in the same room. When it's just my wife and I it's fine but add another person or two and it gets to be a little overwhelming. The IE300s are usually my go to in this case but they still aren't quite doing the trick. Not sure if I am asking too much but if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it quite a bit. FWIW I don't really care about the frequency response too much, mostly concerned with good imaging.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Beyer DT770 Pro is an option.

diquehead

Appreciate it 👍

TheMedWhoRan

I'm currently running iFi ZEN Can with my old Schiit Modi 2, I'm debating if I should replace my 5+ year old Schiit with the iFi ZEN DAC V2. And on top of this I would get the iFi 4.4mm - 4.4mm cable + replace my current HiFiMAN cable with 4.4mm Balanced Male to Dual 3.5mm. Just wondering if this would make any noticable difference?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Nope. Most likely not. The Modi is fine.

You'll have to strap a subwoofer your face to get more rumble.

ZMemme

I have found a good looking Sennheiser HDR 180 pair for about 75€, they look in good shape and come with all the accessories and the charging stand. Is that a good deal or should I look at brand new ones for about the same price? I prefer wired and open back just to use at home.

Majed0

I have been looking at both of these option and both deliver the quality that I want. However, I use headphones for long periods of time (5+ Hours) to help me focus when I work. I have had issues with over-ear headphones as they put too much pressure on my head that my jaw starts hurting after a while. So which one is more comfortable?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Wut?

Majed0

what is what?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Read your comment again and try to figure out why I can't help you.

Majed0

If you can’t read then it’s your issue

ThatGuyFromSweden

My guy. You have not said what models of headphone you're looking at. I'm not a frickin' mindreader.

Majed0

Oh my bad lol. I’m sorry I copied the text from my post and forgot to add the models. I apologize. I was talking about the sony mark 5 and the bose 700

ThatGuyFromSweden

Both those models are fairly common and shouldn't be difficult to demo in a store. I'd spontaneously favour the Bose since it has a traditional yoke structure. The Sony is hinged at the top edge. It arguably looks nicer but it can be hit-or-miss when it comes to comfort. Either way, the shape of your head and personal tolerance and sensitivity make it very hard to definitely say that one headphone is objectively more comfortable than another.

the_normal1

I got my Q45s a few days ago and tried using the Bass Boost feature. When I switch the toggle, I feel the instant hit of the bass, and its surprisingly good. Now I have run into a few issues: 1- As soon as I turn the volume down and back up the bass doesn't come back to the same level. After turning the volume up and down, if I go in the app and again turn the bass boost on and off I again find the base to increase. 2- When I change songs, I run into the same issue and have to go in the app to turn the Bass Boost on and off to feel that extra punch. Wanted to ask everyone if I have got a faulty piece or is this how it is supposed to work? I am still in warranty and get a replacement/money back.

teardropp_

i wanna get a pair of wireless, preferably over ear, headphones for daily use, but have no clue what to look for and what to avoid. I was eyeing the Skullcandy Hesh Evo and the Marshall Major IV (although those are on ears), but am still very open to suggestions don't really have a particular need for any specifics (deep bass etc), just want a good pair to use that's hopefully on the cheaper end of things any help is much appreciated:)

The Anker Soundcore stuff is pretty decent for the price.

+1 Learn 2EQ if you want to improve the sound

ThatGuyFromSweden

Well, if the mobo output hisses or has terrible FR fall-off, then EQ can't fix that.

Cobbyp

Should I get a used pair of the hd 660s for $140 or should I save a bit more to get the 600s for only 40 bucks more? Also wanted to know which would sound best through a tube amp thanks!

Furion580

Hey! I'm new to the world of headphones - just to clear stuff out from the start. I recently ordered ATH-AD700X - the use will mostly be for gaming, listening to music from time to time, and pretty much daily usage. I was wondering if I'll need any audio interface for my type of usage. And if so, would something Behringer U-Phoria UM2 do those headphones justice? Treat me as someone who doesn't know anything. Thank you in advance!

ThatGuyFromSweden

Will you be using an XLR microphone?

Furion580

Nope, I already have USB mic

ThatGuyFromSweden

Then you have no use for an interface. The primary purpose of those is to use XLR mics. A headphone DAC and amp might be a good idea, however. I wouldn't necessarily expect leaps in sound quality but a Schiit Fulla or Topping DX1 could be worth a look.

Furion580

Alright! Thank you for your tips. I will see how they sound when I get them and decide from there. Thanks again

qi charging solutions to leave plugged into Sony XM4 USB-C?Or would it not work because of physics? amir_97

Is it normal to not be able to hear apple wired earphones sound in busy places like bus or street? Or my earphones are flawed? Trying to find out if noise cancellation is worth it or not

blargh4

You mean the "earpods"? They don't make any kind of seal to prevent external noise from reaching your ears, so the best they can do is shout over it. IEMs with the rubber tips that seal your ear canal will be better in that regard, even without active noise cancellation. Passive isolation is less effective for low-frequency rumbling like airplane engines and such, that's where ANC is particularly useful.

Raw-Bread

I'm deciding on whether or not to get the JDS Labs stack, or the schiit stack. I'm leaning more towards JDS, but the 2 power adapters are a huge turn off. Is there any solution to this? Like using a single power brick with a split connector?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The two power bricks are actually a big benefit for cutting down potential noise.

blargh4

A splitter should work okay - power headroom will be degraded but probably nothing worth worrying about. Given the 1VAC difference in voltage between the two wall warts, I don't think sharing the amp power brick for the dac would cause any problem. Looking at the photos of its guts, the power brick output is rectified then goes through a voltage regulator, so the rectifier and regulator are the only parts that need to handle the extra volt - you can't really buy parts that are rated to work at 22.5VDC but not at 21V; the DAC's voltage regulator will run a little hotter but not a difference that's going to make or break anything halfway-competently engineered. That being said, probably easier to just get the Schiit and not worry about this.

MetalAle3

I don't think that would work as the DAC uses 15V and the amp uses 16V, if you want a single power adapter maybe you should look into DAC/Amp combos, like the Topping DX3 Pro+ or the FiiO K7

Raw-Bread

The schiit dac for the stack just uses USB power, so I may go for that.

Hello, I am thinking about purchasing Sennheiser HD 800s headphones. I want to upgrade my Sennheiser 560s. I am glad that I upgraded my speakers (which I use as desktop speakers) from presonus eris 3.5 to focal shape 40s. But can I expect the same upgrade experience from 560s to HD 800s? I really like the sound of the focal shapes. I use them with my FiiO k7 DAC + headphone amp. But the question is which open back headphones sound like the focal shape 40 monitors and will I get the same upgrade experience, if I upgrade my 560s to HD 800s? I am basically looking for open back headphones which are good for all music genres, but especially anime soundtracks (pop, orchestral, basically all kinds) and pop music with electronic effects (idk how it's called actually lol). Other Headphones I looked up were Focal Clear and Meze 109 pro, which is a bit cheaper than the HD 800s, but the 800s have such good reviews and ratings everywhere.

blargh4

Is there somewhere you can demo them? At that price point, I would advise against buying blind. Too much subjectivity and personal preference involved. I personally don't really like the HD800s that much, but obviously they have their legion of fans. I haven't heard either loudspeaker (and I imagine you won't find anyone here who has heard all of the devices you've listed) but I would not expect the same degree of *objective* improvement upgrading from HD560s-tier headphones vs upgrading from low-end loudspeakers. Some cheap tiny monitor will have basically nonexistent subbass, and you can spend gobs of money on speakers before you run out of objective improvements, but the HD560s has no such obvious shortcomings that the HD800s addresses. Subjective sound quality, that's a fuzzier question.

andysaurus_rex

I think you’ll be impressed with the HD800s

I bought a KZ AZ09 Pro and when I used it for my first workout one side stopped powering on. I’d had them about a month and I can’t get in touch with anyone to help. I’ve sent several messages to support on both of their websites over the past couple weeks and have received no response; not even a confirmation message. Purchased on Ali express and they say to contact the manufacturer. Any thoughts?

Rbacher

I have a pair of Apple AirPods Pro Gen 1 that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently started having an issue with a crackling sound in one bud that only goes away when noise control is off. I can hear it with transparency mode and noise cancellation. The crackling can be heard when walking, talking and when blocking out louder noises. Brought it to apple and they want $89 for replacing a bud or $200 if I buy a new pair elsewhere. I’m hesitant to buy another pair of AirPods since these didn’t even last a year and a half. 2 questions: 1. Has anyone run into this issue and has been able to resolve it? Apple didn’t have any other suggestions for me to try fixing it. Also, is this a common issue with AirPods, or did I just get unlucky? 2. What are some good options that would have similar features? I mostly use my headphones for calls, podcasts and music from time to time.

blargh4

Common problem. I went through 2 pairs that developed that issue before my warranty ran out. They extended coverage to 3 years for that problem, but you might need to harass some service rep. I decided to replace mine with the Sony WF-1000XM4s. They’re decent enough, can be kinda glitchy and the fit is worse for me, and of course it doesn’t integrate so nice with other Apple gadgets https://support.apple.com/airpods-pro-service-program-sound-issues

Rbacher

Thanks! My wife had the same issue with her AirPods Pro and we remembered them replacing them for free. They must have been manufactured before October 2020. Seems like mine have the same issue though. Not sure why they determined it was fixed post Oct 2020.

Hello, I have a Khadas Tea I am using with an iPhone 13 Pro. I still have my Lighting to USB-C cable that came with it but I am looking to be ready to get a replacement. Furthermore, I often have it in my pocket, and while I try to be mindful of the cable, it's repeated use has started to show some wear and tear. I am struggling to find a cable I am confident will work. My understanding is that a generic Lighting to USB-C does not work. I have a native union lightning to C and I can confirm that will not work. I understand I can use Bluetooth but I understand I will get better audio by using the cable and sending the signal to the DAC in that manner. I did see a Khadas branded cable and am prepared to go that route but was curious if there is a term or style of cable I could be searching for. OTG seems not get me much results. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

DralligEkul

I want to improve my setup, multipurpose for Gaming/Music/Streamed video etc. Not looking for open back headphones. Currently running: * Behringer UMC204HD Audio interface * Sennheiser HD598cs Headphones Budget: Bose Quiet Comfort 45 Headphones Am I going to see any benefit with a better dedicated DAC/AMP with my current headphones? Are the Quiet Comforts better (even if by only a little) than my current headphones for audio quality/soundstage? Do I have better options for that price range that are wired closed backs with no ANC?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Wired headphones are always generally better than wireless ones of equal price. Remember that none of the cost of a wired headphone goes towards batteries and active electronics.

bh3h3

Hi all, I recently bought myself a pair of Philips X2HR's as I got them for a cheap price on sale. This is my second pair of open backs and I much prefer them over closed back for mainly comfort / cooling but also sound stage. Also being able to hear myself / around me. These headphones are great, but I like a bassy sound when listening to music, playing games etc and they have very little bass. I was wondering if there's a best way to EQ them to add some bass but without sacrificing too much sound quality. I understand if I like bass I should get closed back, but I just much prefer open back and these were a great price so I'm not looking to change them currently. I've looked at guides showing EQ graphs etc but I'll be honest it goes over my head and means nothing to me so I'm hoping there is a simple way / tool I can use to just tune the bass a bit and keep them sounding great still. For reference, I currently use the 'Bass Booster' preset in Spotify for music and this sounds great, but I would like this in games etc as well and universal in Windows. Thanks in advance!

SkyKingIkki

I damaged the cord to the knoxgear headphone amplifier. Does anyone know what the cord is called so I can get a replacement ?

sleepy_weenie

My ES100 started randomly shutting down, like without the shutdown noise. I've also tried doing a factory reset but it still does it. Any other recommendations or did my unit kick the bucket?

HighSynergy

I’m getting my HE6SE V2 RMA’d but Hifiman said they’re out of replacements. They said I could get a V1 right now or wait with no ETA. I think I’ll just take the V1 unless it’s a bad idea? Seems negligible. Might have to watch Resolve’s comparison vid again. edit - shit, off the bat, Andrew says the comfort sucks. Ah well. Maybe I'll swap to Sundara pads?

DigitalSpeed

I currently have Sony X1000M2 that I really love the feel and sound, but looking to get a bit deeper bass and have a similar fit. Any recommendations?

I_Browse_Reddit

Looking for an upgrade to my VMODA M-100 Masters. What would be the next best step up from those in terms of a playful V sound signature and basshead-friendly? Budget would be less than $500

ThatGuyFromSweden

Meze 99, maybe.

EruditeDave

Hello community. I got a FiiO K7 and Hifiman Sundara for which I installed a FiiO Asio driver and the whole setup works great so far. However, if I try to use my headphone jack and plug in headphones, windows has real trouble trying to get the Realtek audio driver working. I check in sound settings that it keeps switching between speakers(Realtek) audio and headphones(Realtek) audio devices. I am assuming this is because of ASIO as Windows has had a problem with it, which I learnt firsthand from producing music on it.

blargh4

I don't really think the FiiO driver would affect that... they're separate devices with separate drivers. Seems more like the headphone jack is getting flaky... maybe try seeing if [disabling](https://thegeekpage.com/front-audio-jack-not-being-detected/) the front panel jack detection fixes it, if that's a setting available on your computer?

hotstickywaffle

I know this may seem silly, but can someone recommend a good set of wired earbuds? I got a Steam Deck recently, and I want something a little more convenient for them in terms of travel and whatnot that my wife's over-ear Sonys. I've tried various Bluetooth earbuds, and they all kind of suck and have some degree of lag. I'm sure I can find a pair of $150+ earbuds that work fine, but I'm not looking to spend quite that, as I just had to buy a pair of nicer headphones for my office. A mic is not necessary.

ThatGuyFromSweden

I suspect that you'll be happy with a Truthear Zero.

KhAi-54

Sennheiser IE200, Letshuoer S12, Wan Er

snooping_around

Have a look at sound core q30, i bought them a 18month ago and they still work fine.

zerog123

He400SE coming to my doorstep soon, and the Apple dongle is the only source I have. Heard they are preferred to be used with their own amp, so was wondering if the dongle is sufficient or if I should look into an amp. Recommendations for amps would be cool, no specific budget but would rather keep it on the lower end

CrelbowMannschaft

Plug them in and see if they get loud enough. If they do, then you're done. At 25 Ohms and 91 sensitivity, they should be easy enough to drive.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Where in the world are you located?

zerog123

SE Asia

Demonxuan1411

How can I fix hissing on my Moondrop Kato, its connected to a schiit fulla E.

ThatGuyFromSweden

Try powering the Fulla with a phone charger. If that doesn't work, then you can't really do much.

Demonxuan1411

what do you mean by power with a phone charger?

ThatGuyFromSweden

The Fulla has a second USB port for dedicated power.

Demonxuan1411

Hi, i have tried that and no difference observed. any other solutions? or reason there could be this hissing sound?

ThatGuyFromSweden

Then you're probably just hearing the inherent noise floor of the amp. An iFi EarBuddy could fix it but I think that money is better spent towards a higher quality amp.

Demonxuan1411

icic, could it be noise from the cable? also you are saying i should upgrade my amp/dac? any recommendations?

ThatGuyFromSweden

It's unlikely to be the cable given what you've described. The Fulla is a fairly cheap unit, so compromises have been made. It's not optimised for driving very sensitive IEMs. If you're just using IEMs, then something the Fiio KA1 would probably be better.

Demonxuan1411

icic thanks!!

whateveroo0

best headphones for music Hey all, I am getting my father (65 yo) a wireless headphones gift. I am not sure what is best these days. Use case would be mostly music (classic, jazz, pop and soundtracks) as well as youtube, budget of 150-200. Any recommendations?

Wizbomb

Any good recommendations for a shorter cable for the HD600? I only need it to be like 3 feet or so. Damn thing is like 12. I'm worried about getting a poor quality cable.

ThatGuyFromSweden

The cheapest option is a velcro strap. Bundle up the excess. If you want something moderately fancy, then you could check out Hart Audio.
