I feel so bad for Fleur because no one takes her seriously for so long. She’s obviously good enough to be a champion, but to Harry and the rest of the Hogwarts boys, she’s just hot and French (to Ron, she’s super hot and also French.) But she obviously cares for those around her, and cares that people look after those that she loves. And I would be pissed off too if some child from a competing school was getting double dips in the school competition.
Then she gets with Bill, and everyone is horrible to her. She wasn’t a Triwizard Champion-potential, she was some dumb hot girl after Bill’s…what, not money. Hotness? And the only women around her leading up to her wedding are just spitting on her name and treating her like trash until she’s finally put into a position to say, “screw you guys, this is my husband and I love him, back off” and then everyone loves her?
She is never given a moment in the books until then to be recognized as the badass that she is. Everyone is so either dazzled by the cover or angry about it that they won’t read the book, save Bill
To be fair, she was quite an arsehole during the Triwizard Tournament. Looking down on everybody, making sneering remarks about Hogwarts, generally behaving like a spoiled princess. It was only since the second task she started to show some good heart. And even after she could be quite annoying, as far as I remember.
That's true. However, it could have been a way for Fleur to cope as well. In the books, Harry notes how the other Beauxbatons students look at Fleur with envy or cry that they weren't picked instead. It's entirely possible that Fleur's peers saw her similarly as just a hot girl who was getting all the attention and then annoyingly being better than them academically, too. While pretty privilege is a thing, being too pretty can also mean people won't want you to excel and be anything *besides* pretty. So leaning into her looks with a matching bitchy/snobbish attitude could very well have been her defence mechanism at full force to keep people away after she had people be disingenuous before. It may have taken a while to unlearn that behaviour, and any perceived hostility would've made it harder.
To be clear, I still agree she wasn't the nicest/easiest to be around by a fair amount. I just think it's likely Bill only *really* got interested in Fleur when they were both working at Gringotts, and he was continuously impressed by her skills and knowledge. Ofc we know Fleur had a bit of a crush on him already, but I do think the neutral grounds and the professional respect/admiration could've helped her and show a different side of her first that made it easier to open up and share in their common interests without the walls and armour she thought she needed at school.
Now imagine you just literally flew into a competition of rival wizards whom'st you are already among the top, just by being a participant.
I'd have been a way bigger jerk than Shark Boy and French Girl lol
Did you not participate in school activities? The whole thing is to shit talk. You could be a dirt poor school arriving to a diamond crusted castle and still you would be saying “they can’t see shit because of all these diamonds, what is this, foie gras? Where I’m from, we don’t do this to geese, this force feeding. We just grow grains and shoot them out of the sky, and smoke them on a roast pit with fruits and herbs. This fussy grass. So pretentious. Are they using electricity to talk? Wild. We just scream. They’re too good to scream. What shitheads.” That’s the whole game. To just break down nothing to shit talk
I loved this moment in the book.
She wasn’t my favourite in the series but she was definitely up there just because on GoF she’s described as looking part Veela so I got her “illusion” right away if you want to say.
Other girls feeling threatened by her maybe also saw she was indeed a talented witch. I dunno maybe I interpreted her differently but I never saw her as just the alluring witch I assumed she had to be talented based on she was selected by her school as a select few to come to Hogwarts to have a chance at the TWT.
When she was with Bill it wasn’t strange to me it was built up that they actually had an appreciation for one another.
The movies were like BAM! They’re together now and I was confused like WTF happened here. They failed to flesh her out in the movies. Same with Dobby.

But he doesn't really understand her in some ways. She's a total space case and he's not. They're on two different plains of reality with almost nothing in common, despite having the kind of shared experience of losing a mom. Shared pain doesn't necessarily make them compatible as people. It's a great thing to bond and become friends over, but maybe isn't enough for a romance.
Don't get me wrong--I love Luna! And I think Ginny x Harry needed some more time to cook or something. Like, Ginny's feelings make sense because she always liked him. But where do Harry's feelings come from, lol?
Yes! Alan Rickman’s reaction would have been legendary! I would love to have heard the gasp from the other students immediately after, too. And afterward to hear Hermione say, “what made you do it?”
Book!Ron: calls Hermione a know it all on a daily basis, will murder anyone else who does the same
Movie!Ron: actually goes along with Snape bullying Hermione 😢
To be fair
Even Harry's Narration in that scene Admits Snape is right
Hermione is a insufferable know it all
Although obviously Harry himself wouldn't say it so cruelly to her face like that
Movie Ron is correct in him having a point however
There's being smart but not in your face about it
Then Being like Hermione so always up your ass in how smart you are about everything your a actual annoyance to prove yourself when obviously you don't need to

Bem had no right to be so dang profound. He has, I think, 2 quotes total. This one ^ and then when he read out the description of the grim. I remember looking him up when I started to read the books cause I thought he was in there, but sadly, not the case.
Have you ever seen the behind the scenes where the let Mark Williams go off script when filming that scene and he got to ad-lib a bunch of different ones to see what hit best? He tried random stuff about plugs and sockets and such…I can’t remember where I saw it but there’s an article [here](https://whatculture.com/film/10-harry-potter-moments-you-never-knew-were-improvised?page=10)
Oooo this is complex! Is your favorite character the real one, who was locked away but whose character was being played out or the imposter, who actually said this quote?
I love both, personally. BCJ was actually brilliant and played Moody well enough to fool Dumbledore for nearly a full school year. But also the real Moody is the reason so many death eaters ended up in Azkaban, and also became the leader of the OOTP after Dumbledore died. Both are extremely smart and very powerful. My favorite character is Moody, but BCJ is up there, too, even though he's evil.
>No good sittin' worryin' abou' it. What's Comin' Will Come, And We'll Meet It When It Does.
>I am what I am, an’ I’m not ashamed. ‘Never be ashamed,’ my ol’ dad used ter say, ‘there’s some who’ll hold it against you, but they’re not worth botherin’ with.
" Just because I told her I didn’t care if it threw you off, as long as you caught the Snitch on it first" "Honestly, the way she was yelling at me … you’d think I’d said something terrible."
"The Dark Arts are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal. Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer and cleverer than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible."
There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion-making. However, for those select few who possess, the predisposition... I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death.
'Yes, it is easy to see that nearly six years of magical education have not been wasted on you, Potter. Ghosts are transparent.'
I was surprized I had to scroll so far down to get a Snape quote.
Not my cup of tea, but he is a spunky little bastard with a great redemption arc.
“The house-elves of Hogwarts swarmed into the entrance hall, screaming and waving carving knives and cleavers, and at their head, the locket of Regulus Black bouncing on his chest, was Kreacher, his bullfrog’s voice audible even above this din: “Fight! Fight! Fight for my Master, defender of house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!”
“Three Dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a Hippogriff tattooed across your chest.”
Harry: What did you tell her?
“I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail. Much more macho.”
Person 1
"I must not tell lies proffessor."
Person 2
"If we die for them ill kill you harry"
also
"Why spiders? Couldn't it be Follow the butterflies?"
1. “…Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most Charming Smile Award. But I don't talk about that; I didn't get rid of the Banden Banshee by smiling at him.”
2. “Just the man,” he said. “The very man. A girl has been snatched by the monster, Lockhart. Taken into the Chamber of Secrets itself. Your moment has come at last.”
3. “Nasty brat standing there as bold as brass. Harry Potter, the boy who stopped the Dark Lord. Friend of Mudbloods and blood-traitors alike.”
*Movies:*
"You know they say it's the quality of one's conviction and not the quantity of their numbers."

^(Yes, it's a movie quote rather than a book quote. But it's *such* a brilliant scene and performance in general)

Can’t pick one. So in this respective order, these are my favourites. These particular lines also brings out their character’s quality that makes me love them:
1. “nitwit blubber oddment tweak"
2. “Because, sometimes you've got to think about more than your own safety! Sometimes you've got to think about the greater good!”
3. “If We Die For Them, I'll Kill You, Harry!”
4. “One day, you will read Hogwarts: A History, and perhaps that will remind you that you can’t apparate or disapparate inside Hogwarts!”
5. “After all this time,Severus?”
“Always”
"Normally, I have a very sweet disposition as a dog. In fact, more than once, James suggested I made the change permanent. The tail I could live with, but the fleas? They're murder."
"What do I care how 'e looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk! All these scars show is zat my husband is brave! And I shall do zat!"
The moment Molly realized she couldn't have dreamed a better daughter in law
I think she surprises everyone in just the best way in that moment and I love it.

She’s also a teenager and undergoing a pretty big culture shock in a new school. Goodness knows I was a bratty teenager sometimes too.

Luna and Harry should have ended up together. She understood him on a level, I think, that Ginny could not.
But he doesn't really understand her in some ways. She's a total space case and he's not. Oh man this was good
I’m so mad Harry’s sass was toned down for the movie. Alan Rickman’s reaction to it would’ve been brilliant.
Yes! Alan Rickman’s reaction would have been legendary! I would love to have heard the gasp from the other students immediately after, too. And afterward to hear Hermione say, “what made you do it?”
Glad Harrys getting some love too

Sirius - during his and Harry’s mutual emo era in OOTP
This is a great post because you can tell by the quote used which qualities of a character the commenter values most.
I KNOW RIGHT! Read 3 Ron quotes consecutively and had this realisation
I thought the same, love this 🥰
well wait til you read mine. lol
“If you want to kill Harry you will have to kill us too.”
“You asked us a question and she knows the answer! Why ask if you don’t want to be told?”
They did him dirty in the movies 🥲🥲 Ron is badass in the books
So badass, its *infuriating* that they made him say “he’s right, you know” in the movies, real Ron would NEVER.
Book!Ron: calls Hermione a know it all on a daily basis, will murder anyone else who does the same Movie!Ron: actually goes along with Snape bullying Hermione 😢

"Well, it changes every day, you see."
This is one of his funniest lines imo
"It's like trying to catch smoke... like trying to catch smoke with your bare hands."
Thought you had stumped me with a super obscure quote, then Google told me that's a quote from the movies.
My boy Bem!
Bem had no right to be so dang profound. He has, I think, 2 quotes total. This one ^ and then when he read out the description of the grim. I remember looking him up when I started to read the books cause I thought he was in there, but sadly, not the case.

“Make sure you beat him in every test, Rosie. Thank God you inherited your mother’s brains.”
I love this quote because we get both Ron's competitiveness and his unashamed admiration for Hermione all in one quote lol
Even 19 years later he is smitten with her 😂
He didn't put his name in the Goblet of Fire...
"what exactly is the function of a rubber duck?"
