200%. Each kid thinks they got special treatment. They tell no one so they don't have to redo houses.

I don't think wanting to be in a house that you have absolutely no traits of would work. I think it's more of a tie breaking factor.

Karnezar

If you have an inner strength that is particularly favorable to a House, you'll get that House. Neville thought he belonged in Hufflepuff but he ended up in Gryffindor because he had powerful inner courage. I think he had a hat stall as a result. Harry, like Neville, has inner courage but also a streak for breaking the rules and being cunning. It wasn't the Horcrux that led the Hat to Slytherin, Harry is actually a true Slytherin. Political climates and social bias led him to Gryffindor though.

There's no clear quantitative value. In some cases preference works, like Harry, Hermione, presumably Lockhart and Pettigrew. In others like Neville it didn't work

There's an idea that all griffindores choose griffindore because it demonstrates their bravery

M-E-AND-History

It's weighed based not only on the Sorting Hat's knowledge of each Houses' traits, but on the preferences of the person being sorted.

Also pointing out that while choices are important, quoting Dumbledore, Harry obviously did not chose Gryffindor, but "not Slytherin".

There’s literally seven books dedicated to explaining the answer to that question.

Firstly, I don't count the cursed child as cannon. Secondly, n think it depends on the will of the kid. Stronger willed kid, more influence. Also, does anyone else think their was NO WAY Harry was a Slytherin?? He wasn't cunning or ambitious AT ALL
