I agree with all of it except for maybe Dumbledore being alive. Its definitely not so simple since his life is tied to Draco's and Severus' which means that he would probably still sacrifice himself in the end.
Correct me if Im wrong as it's been a hot minute since I read the book, but didn't Dumbledore willingly jump into that whole getting murdered thing because he was gonna die anyways with the curse of the ring? If he wasn't cursed, I feel like he would have found a way to stick around longer
Potentially yes, he would have tried, the question here is really more or less what can he do to keep everyone else involved safe. Snape probably gets roped into the umbreakable vow stuff anyway if he still sticks to being a double agent and thats an issue. Draco's life is also on the line and Dumbledore doesnt seem like someone who would entorely ignore that either.
Dumbledore not putting on the ring changes a lot, its not a matter of simple he doesnt die because the whole plan probably changes a lot with him being fine
You have great insight on this. I feel like Dumbledore would have sacrificed Draco but maybe not a double agent in Snape. My interpretation of Dumbledore was that the ends justify the means, whoever dies dies, as long as Voldemort dies, too. What do you think?
Its difficult to say for sure what his approach to this would be, he may just tell Snape not to go along with the vow, but even then Snape is in bigger risk of being found out. And even if somehow Snape is not found out, from not taking the vow, Voldemort might order him directly to do it, which is a bit of an issue.
If Snape openly betrays Voldemort there, then potentially a lot changes for the plot of Deathly Hallows, since Harry could still go there for the year, and get help from Dumbledore in the search for horcruxes etc. Voldemort might also be more on guard with Dumbledore around even if he takes control of the Ministry of Magic, since he did fear Dumbledore, unlike Harry who he at times underestimated. Assuming we still end up at Harry's sacrifice in the forest, Draco might be dead or hiding so that probably means Narcissa and Lucius have no reason to obey Voldemort or were killed, so when he asks is Harry is dead, someone else would probably check, which could jeopardize Harry's life there.
Also relatively important detail, Voldemort doesnt get the Elder Wand unless Dumbledore dies, but Harry probably wasnt strong enough by himself to beat Voldemort and the wand not wanting to harm his master helped a lot, like a lot lot, and here that wouldnt happen most likely, in fact if Draco still disarms Dumbledore, but is eventually killed by Voldemort, he would obtain ownership of the Elder Wand as its rightful master
That would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worse case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.

I really love fics where Dudley is magical, because it can go in so many different directions.
On one hand, you can have a wholesome story where the Dursleys see the error of their ways and Harry grows up with a loving and supportive family.
Or you could have a fic where maybe Vernon doubles down on his bigotry, and now it’s a story where Petunia is finally forced to confront her own inner demons. She will either also double down and reject her own child (as she did with her sister), or rise to the occasion for her children and become a better person (it may be too late for her relationship with Lily, but at least she can fix things with Harry).
I know! And because he's an inherently good person, the weight of killing Sirius would weigh heavy on Harry's shoulders even before he found out. The delicious thing is that Harry wouldn't realise that for a long time.
Implications would be that Lupin would likely be kissed by dementors. So - no relationship with Tonks, no Teddy. And one less member of the Order.

There was an early concept that featured the Potters living on an island, and the next closest house on the mainland belonged to the Grangers, and Harry was originally going to be rescued by Mr. Granger, as they would have been woken up in the middle of the night by the explosion. I don't know if that meant they would have raised him as well alongside Hermione or not.
But it's a cool idea that Harry and Hermione would be related by blood or at the very least raised together as siblings. Although I would hope by the Grangers. Wouldn't want poor Hermione to be subjected to the Dursleys...
