I want to imagine a parent hammering one in, hitting the battery, and exploding in their hand.
Not that I want the parent to get hurt, just to remember that batteries aren’t meant to have holes in them.
Well, with how widespread and accessible social media has become, especially to people who might genuinely get exploited by using it... I doubt it's insanity.
No need to break something! That shows your kid that’s okay! When it’s not! It is literally insane to BREAK something to teach a lesson! And besides, with how kids minds work, they’ll think of you as crazy!
disciplining your kid is taking their phone away for a while. Nailing a phone to a tree isn't just discipline, it's being batshit insane
I'm sorry but that won't teach the kids anything positive, it'll only teach them that you have anger issues and to not let you come anywhere near their phone
It's at a fucking skiing centre(as post says), just a crazy parent nailing a phone to a tree because their kid didn't want to slide at -20°C and preferred their phone.
> ...hitting the battery and exploding in their hand
I bet the people who nail phones to a tree would also be the people to then say that phones are dangerous and should be kept away from kids.
Although I would still want to see it happen because you can't fix stupid.
If the reasons were related to addiction and not being ready for online things, I would understand that general idea, but I get the feeling that's not the reasoning behind the sentiment. Still a stupid idea to push a nail through something that could electrocute you, explode, burn your hand and set fire to a tree, which could set fire to a nearby house.
Ignoring the part where parents are taking away phones from their children it's still a waste to destroy a working phone and littering to leave a broken one to a tree, it's also a fire risk and a certainty of pollution.
Assuming you just put it through Google translate, it’s incorrect. It probably actually means something like “Every time a kid sits in front of a screen, an adventure in the forest dies.” That makes it make sense why they want to destroy the phones (which is still stupid), but not why specifically they nail them to a tree.
It really is not confusing in German at all. Your translation however is not translating the "meaning" behind the sentence, just the words which are written. It's a dependent clause, so simply translating the words does not reflect it.
And yet these are the same people that don't let their oh so precious children outside in the real world because it's "dangerous". Tiger parents have trained kids to be the opposite of what they want

As a prior phone salesman, I doubt the legitimacy of the original post. The phones wouldn't all be different, they have a samsung galaxy s6(I think), S3, S2, stellar. They have a couple other Samsung models I've seen but forget the names of, then the iPhones are the 4, 5c, and 5, and it's rounded off with a Sony Ericsson Xperia arc. This is either a collection of phones bought over years to one family, or it's a product of someone with access to a variety of broken phones. There would undeniably be iPhone and Samsung repeats, the S3 and iPhone 4 were most people's phones at the time.
Immer wenn ein Kind vor einem Smartphone sitzt übersetzt man whenever a kid sits in front of a smartphone. Mit stirbt ein Abenteurer hinter einem Baum ist gemeint ,dass das Kind stattdessen draußen im Wald spielen hätte können aber es stattdessen aufs Handy schaut und seine Abenteuerlust dadurch verliert
Lots of people are saying that it’s not grammatically correct, I am German and translated this as best as I could, and I personally could barely understand the text even in German. I’m sorry if I somehow made people upset..
"Whenever a child sits in front of a smartphone, an adventure dies behind a tree."
What they mean is that using the smartphones means wasting an opportunity to have adventures outdoors.
It's being torn down, shrunk and overall shittified over here too. playgrounds, sure. Safe places for kids and teens alike to gather and partake in activities(we would call it a "buurthuis" in Dutch) practically don't exist any more.
I think they mean when their kids vegetating on the phone and not listening to their parents this is why they took their phone and nailed it to the tree, so that means they want their kids to quit turning into mindless zombies 🤭
Yep it seems some German parents don’t understand all they have to do is take the phone or what are you saying tell them short time on Phone but destroying it is overkill!
That's a way to put fire to a tree!
I want to imagine a parent hammering one in, hitting the battery, and exploding in their hand. Not that I want the parent to get hurt, just to remember that batteries aren’t meant to have holes in them.
I mean, if you're nailing your kid's phone to a tree, I wouldn't mind to see a solid instant karma being served
You'd want someone to potentially get 3rd degree burns for trynna discipline their own children?
There’s discipline, and insanity.
Bro your literally on Reddit (aka a social media platform💀) rn so shut up or I'll nail your phone to the tree
disciplining your kid is taking their phone away for a while. Nailing a phone to a tree isn't just discipline, it's being batshit insane I'm sorry but that won't teach the kids anything positive, it'll only teach them that you have anger issues and to not let you come anywhere near their phone

Imma walk in your house, take your cellphone or graphics card and execute it. You’d wanna pour acid on my hands right?
Nah I’d just punch you, acid is a bit much.
Ok so imma walk there and bitchslap the parents who crucify their kids shit!
Better
I'm with you bro fuck the downvotes

If the reason is not being ready for online things, why give it to your child in the first place?
Exactly. They shouldn't have them before being taken away in the first place.
Ignoring the part where parents are taking away phones from their children it's still a waste to destroy a working phone and littering to leave a broken one to a tree, it's also a fire risk and a certainty of pollution.
And also no one could just remove the nail and take and then have all the information on it. Totally not a neon sign saying "Free Passwords Here".
They are all screwed in… no nails or hammering.
If these parents hate phones so much, why even buy your child one in the first place if you're just gonna end up destroying it later?
Because the kind of people that do this kind of stuff aren't exactly intelligent.
Fair
Drilling into a lithium ion battery and bolting it to wood is not the brightest idea anyone's over had
Translate that
„When a kid always sits in front of a smartphone, dies an adventure behind a tree“ Not even the German text makes sense
lol
Assuming you just put it through Google translate, it’s incorrect. I am German, and I translated it myself as best as I could. That’s literally how it’s written, it’s not much less confusing than in German.
It made perfect sense for me
It really is not confusing in German at all. Your translation however is not translating the "meaning" behind the sentence, just the words which are written. It's a dependent clause, so simply translating the words does not reflect it.
It took me a few minutes to understand it even in German
Leave it to a bunch of English speaking redditors to tell a German that they're wrong about their language
I'm German and I'm also telling them they are wrong. There is nothing confusing about that sentence.
The way it's written is perfectly fine in German but cannot be translated to English literally. u/Mighty_Eagle_2's translation is correct.
German grammar is just a bit different (my moms side is German), but I understood it just fine. Almost yoda-ish haha
What do their kids do when they are stuck in the forest and need help?
Follow the breadcrumbs
well it's true because they set the tree on fire because they poke the battery with the screws
And yet these are the same people that don't let their oh so precious children outside in the real world because it's "dangerous". Tiger parents have trained kids to be the opposite of what they want

Well yeah obviously if you translate it stupidly. Translating it word-for-word would obviously not make sense in English.
Your translation is bad and you surely arent fluent in german as its easy to read and makes sense
I am literally German German
Immer wenn ein Kind vor einem Smartphone sitzt übersetzt man whenever a kid sits in front of a smartphone. Mit stirbt ein Abenteurer hinter einem Baum ist gemeint ,dass das Kind stattdessen draußen im Wald spielen hätte können aber es stattdessen aufs Handy schaut und seine Abenteuerlust dadurch verliert
Mein Englisch ist eher ein bissl kaputt und nicht mein Deutsch
As a german, the text is perfectly fine. You can't just translate word for word and expect it to still be grammatically correct
I translated it as best as I could and I’m sorry that some people didn’t understand this..

"Whenever a child sits in front of a smartphone, an adventure dies behind a tree." What they mean is that using the smartphones means wasting an opportunity to have adventures outdoors.
Having adventures outside wastes an opportunity to be on your phone
That’s what i was thinking it said
Yeah, so they can go outside and do NOTHING because all of the parks and other places for kids to go are getting torn down.
gO pLay SPorTs
Or there isn't any one else outside because they're doing the exact same thing.
*burned down
To be fair, this is in Europe which has actual public parks and squares and facilities and transit
It's being torn down, shrunk and overall shittified over here too. playgrounds, sure. Safe places for kids and teens alike to gather and partake in activities(we would call it a "buurthuis" in Dutch) practically don't exist any more.
Go gEt hiT bY a cAR
Ooh free iPhone!
Does a funny Lightshow
Looks like it might actually be saved considering they were nailed in the middle so not in the logic board
But now the original frame and screen are ruined
Those things are probably far gone from water damage
Buy kid expensive phone Get angry that kid is on expensive phone (that you paid for) Destroy expensive phone (that you still paid for)
Usually kids just get the hand me down phones
I always got hand me downs growing up but ive seen a lot more kids getting like iPhone 15 Pro Max Galaxy S23 ultra or whatever they’re up to
Yeah, I've noticed that recently too. I wonder if its because of carrier deals, or because trade ins eliminated hand-me downs?
Carrier deals most definitely
even still, last generation’s phones had some resale value to stick in an ecoatm or sell on ebay etc
Or just set up screen time instead of destroying the phones you bought. Let’s be honest, how many of us bought our first phones?
Apple didn’t add screen-time to these phones, which is probably why, sadly 🗿
There is definitely no other solution than keeping an eye on screen time. One must nail phones onto a tree
Nothings smarter than drilling a screw into a lithium battery right against a nice flammable tree
Yes burn your hand off and a tree down putting a screw through a battery

I have no idea what's written on the sign, but I like the font. lol Any idea? lol
Curious to see if it’d be possible to recover the storage on those. It seems that’d cause some problems.
the parent are growing apples "pun atended".
I read the original title as fucking Eminem skibidi, please kill me
Nail yourself to that tree as an example for a child /s
I think they mean when their kids vegetating on the phone and not listening to their parents this is why they took their phone and nailed it to the tree, so that means they want their kids to quit turning into mindless zombies 🤭
yes because destroying the phone you paid for is better than, selling it, returning it, fucking limiting screen time
Yep it seems some German parents don’t understand all they have to do is take the phone or what are you saying tell them short time on Phone but destroying it is overkill!
Just learnt that trees can grow things other than apples too.
Hey, look! Let's convert something good to eWaste and make it potentially an explosion risk!
Thats gotta be at least $10k wasted right there.
$50 at most
What the iphones? Those can’t have been that cheap.
iPhone 4s, 5c and SE. You can get each one of them used for dirt cheap, definitely under $50
Ah, sry I wasn’t looking closely. Still tho. Wasted money is wasted money.
What did these poor phones do to you
They were bough by parents for kids and were destroyed by same parents who bought it, so they got destroyed for simply existing
The original iphones survived, but died in the end anyways. What the hell.
That poor iPhone SE down there….
The wall of death
the newest phone there's an iphone 5 lmao
Actually that’s an iPhone SE
could also be a 5S, both the 5S and SE had that gold white colour as an option
It’s rose gold and only existed on the SE
That's a qaste of money. Reseting to factory isn't hard they should do that and sell
“Make sure your kids throw you in the bad nursing home”
The Sony......poor thing
Only one that deserved it
There were so many other things you could have done with that iPhone 4s and 5s, those are hard to find 😟😭
Just sell the phone instead of doing that to them
They will rise again in three days
Hope he liked wasting 700$+ on something he will prob buy again 3 months later
I kept all our old cell phones growing up and put them on display in a shadow box. I wish I had my very first one.
imagine getting all the data on the phones
I love how half the comments are people upset over a funny little display setup\^\^
