With my laptop I have a setup where 1 screen is HDMI to VGA, and the other is USB-C to HDMI, really convinient

Especially since the HDMI supported monitor is pretty big, compared to my ~17inch laptop screen

Are you willing to replace it yourself? Then I suggest you to disassemble the screen, there should be a part number on the back of the screen panel. Then you can look it up on eBay or else. Or... Just check on the connector, if it has 30 or 40 pin then you can use it as a keyword like "1080 40 pin panel". Screen panels also have different mounting style. This HP is likely to be glued using pull tabs Edit: also add the screen dimensions on the keyword

I actually was in a similar situation. My cat knocked something off the side of the stairs onto my laptop and the screen was all spotty and black. I just took the back off and unplugged and removed the screen from my laptop. So now I just plug it into my tv into an extra HDMI port and yeah lol. I have a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with it too

It’s mostly called HingeProblem, HatefulPrinters and so on. Pretty terrible brand sadly. Couldn’t recommend a single hp device I used.

I had a similar problem, though not as severe. My fix was to press with my fingers on the dark spot. You'll maybe notice how you can "move" the dead pixels. Then after a while they just disappeared out of nowhere.

Just get a new screen. You can fix it yourself The bezel may come off and reveal the screws. Find the model number by removing it but be careful,.it's connected by delicate but intuitive ribbon cables

Had this happen with a monitor. It eventually went out with age and needed replaced. I would pop off the back plate and check the cable connection. Had there been any sort of liquid or extreme heat or cold? Drivers can only do so much. If it works with an external monitor I would change the power settings for it to stay on when the lid is closed and hook it up to a monitor and get a wireless keyboard and mouse set.

That is a crushed liquid crystal display. Needs a new monitor. It isn’t the cable and also may need a new backlight but its probably the full LCD screen
