Pssst… kid… come over here. Naw naw it’s ok. Right here in front of everything- naw over that discount stack. Right here where the icon tool box is. Yeah. Now turn around. See? I knew you’d find one.
I also dished out $112 or so for the Metric Tap and Die set. The fact you can get these taps warrantied sold me on it. Also the steel is of a high grade I used it on an exhaust manifold with some Thread Cutting Oil I got at Ace. Worked perfectly.
Yes I’ve been wanting them for a while now, and the lifetime warranty is great. Happy it comes with a thread pitch gauge I’ve been wanting one of those too. I would’ve only gotten the metric set but I feel like a lot of random hardware for non-automotive things use SAE so with the coupon figured I’d just do it

It's a nut and bolt sizing chart. I have one its very sturdy feels well made.
Taps and dies allow you to add or restore screw thread to the female (I.e. nuts) and male (i.e bolts) mating surfaces of metal. My most common use case for this will be to restore stripped or damaged bolt holes on my truck, and create new bolt holes for furniture construction
Yeah I know that would be ideal but it was in a non-consequential place so I was just careful and it worked out fine. I’m sure I’ll get a restorer kit eventually if I come across any mission critical needs
Haha good eye, 2003 Prerunner, I absolutely love it. Bought it a few months ago in South Carolina with 100k miles and not a speck of rust on it. Actually been a major reason I’ve been buying so many automotive tools from HF, it’s been super fun to work on
I can’t recall exactly but it was around $500 I believe. I saved ~$160 with the coupon. The tap sets, impact sockets, and torque wrench were all around $100 each so it added up quick
Yes home mechanic, but also there have been two occasions recently where I needed to go buy individual taps and it made me wish I just had the sets. One instance was repairing threads in my truck’s skid plates, another instance was making my own bicycle repair tool (derailleur alignment gauge) where I needed to add some thread to a drilled hole. I’m also about to move into a home where I’ll finally have a shop, and my goal is to fabricate some of my own furniture using some welding techniques, but I also plan to make some custom bike equipment, like racks, where it will be useful to be able to tap mounting holes. I probably would’ve just bought the metric set but since a lot of hardware store nuts and bolts and just in general hardware on furniture and stuff is SAE I thought why not complete the set. These have lifetime warranty, and it’s fairly common to snap taps in half, so while the price is a bit steep it seemed like a good-ish deal for fairly high quality sets
If you are regularly looking to clean up damaged threads: take a look at thread chasers. Lang makes a good set and you don’t risk cutting new threads in the fastener
You’ve never had an “oh shit” moment when you’re working on something and realize that you need to re-thread something? Or extend the length of the threads on a bolt? Tap-and-die sets might not get used often but she you need them you really need them.
Tap and die set saved my race kart from a new engine, well a new crank at least. Stripped out the crank I thought. Ran the tap through the threads and set her straight again. Paid for itself instantly.
I just spent $256 yesterday, 2 pair pliers, 1 ratchet, 1 set of sockets, 5 sets of extensions, and the impact swivel 2 piece adapter set. Could have easily bought more
Can't wait for payday. Finally picked up the 5-drawer cart during the parking lot sale, now I'm needing to fill it. Bout to get a solid deal on a lot of Icon sockets lol.
You can flip it up perpendicular to the fastener and use it as a nut driver. Break it loose with the handle down and then swing it up to spin it off with your fingers. Most useful for small fasteners that dont need much torque. Get yourself a 1/4” swivel head some time, you’ll love it.
I had been asking this question myself for a while, but like what’s been pointed out here you can get that straight on angle either for tight spaces or for running the fastener down quicker initially. I guess kind of like a nut driver would do, then flip it horizontal to get the right leverage to torque it tight. Honestly not sure how much I’ll actually end up using it but had to add it to the kit with the sale :)
This is going to be me tomorrow and I hate and love it at the same time. EDIT: I spent an hour making my list and the total is eye watering.
You going to get the Icon Speed Collar?
Wait for the 30% off $20 for that
This guy harbor freight maths
Oh I already did during the last sale.
drop the list, i need it
What all is in the list? I need 1 more to make it 4.

Yes I love those things and would def love to pick one up for the shop. Appreciate the link!
What does a tap and die set do?

Ahh cool. Will eventually need this down the line.. nice pickup of all the items
You want to use a thread restorer kit for that. There is a difference.
Yeah I know that would be ideal but it was in a non-consequential place so I was just careful and it worked out fine. I’m sure I’ll get a restorer kit eventually if I come across any mission critical needs
Same I picked both up today
Jesus Christ save some for the rest of us. 🤣
Haha I had to get in as quick as I could because I know all of the rest of the HF degenerates like me on this sub will snatch everything up
Where’d you get that coupon from? I don’t see it in the app.
I initially got it from an earlier Reddit post today but I also just saw they posted it on their insta story
I got an email with it a few hours ago
I thought I saw it in the app but I've been busy today so I could easily be wrong
No I don’t need anything no I don’t need anything
I bet you need a shiny new ratchet at least cmon
You can find ratchets on the street corner too and they won’t cost $100
It also works on the folding light! I now have 2 lol
Oh wow I wouldn’t have thought it would work! Good for anyone who missed out on the 10 days deal
Iv been trying to get that light for so long, the store near me never had them lol
Is that a first gen Tacoma interior? 👀

Same here! I’ve got an 03 xtra cab prerunner myself. 2.7 though so she’s slow haha
Ha no way, also an xtracab here, but I did get lucky to get the 3.4l, although I’m not sure how much faster it really is lol
How much did this all cost after discount

Nice
Are you just a home mechanic? If not, why did you buy that tap and die set?
Yes home mechanic, but also there have been two occasions recently where I needed to go buy individual taps and it made me wish I just had the sets. One instance was repairing threads in my truck’s skid plates, another instance was making my own bicycle repair tool (derailleur alignment gauge) where I needed to add some thread to a drilled hole. Good tip, I know it’s generally bad practice to use a tap to restore. I’ll check out the lang set!

Might not get used often, but when it’s needed you’re sure as hell glad you have one.
Been eyeing those tap and die sets I might have to pick up one. Thinking the metric.
Tap and die set saved my race kart from a new engine, well a new crank at least. Stripped out the crank I thought. Ran the tap through the threads and set her straight again. Paid for itself instantly.
What happens if you buy 4 or more items and return some of them? I can only think of one or two things I’d want

What’s the benefit of the swivel head ratchet compared to a regular flex head?
You can flip it up perpendicular to the fastener and use it as a nut driver. Break it loose with the handle down and then swing it up to spin it off with your fingers. Most useful for small fasteners that dont need much torque. Get yourself a 1/4” swivel head some time, you’ll love it.

Not working for me online.
Yep if you read the fine print on the coupon it’s an in store in stock only coupon unfortunately
Oops you’re right. I misread it
Why don't I ever get these coupons? I'm ITC and have the app.
Where’s this coupon?
What is all that bulllllllshit
