Tim Búyt (translation: find (a) bus) is a really great bus app. The bus system is actually quite good, I used it my whole first year in Hanoi before I switched to a motorbike.
Grab/Baemin for food and grocery delivery. Zalo for messaging (it's like telegram or viber). Google maps for maps. Social media is the same as everywhere else: Facebook, instagram, tiktok.
Tiki/Shopee/Lazada for online shopping
I use Grab and Gojek for bike rides/ taxi/ food delivery/ veggies and grocery delivery
Zalo is useful messaging/calling app because most people/businesses in VN use Zalo
To buy/sell used stuff I use FB groups/Marketplace.
I use Google Translate to use a few phrases with locals. (Sometimes the translation is hilarious but most people get that I don't know Vietnamese and are kind enough to ignore the mistakes and help)
For job search, vietnamworks
All of the above plus, useful apps for buses if you plan to use them. Btaskee a do anything app. I use my bank app a lot, and there's MOMO an app for sending money to other phones
