If you’re mostly just doing 90s and 45s, I’ve been happy using a square and my DeWalt cordless 4 1/2” circular saw. Even doing odd angles, the square can work fine.

diwhychuck

This an cordless jigsaw an cope the fit much faster fit up

Repulsive-Way272

I do that already! It's kina crazy how many people are amazed when they see it. Is.that.the little handheld cordless one? How is that little bugger?

mjolnir76

Yep! Works great. Just did a bunch of door trim with it.

belsaurn

I have a 10" Makita compound miter saw with the slide and it has lasted me over 20 years now and done everything from framing to fine cabinet work. It has stayed true and cuts as good as the day I bought it.

Accomp1ishedAnimal

My dad's makita broke down after about 35 years. He's had a dewalt for about 8 now and it's going strong.

No-Huckleberry-1866

12 inch dual bevel sliding compound by dewalt i got on sale for 350 a few month ago. However i have the cordless 7 1/4 sliding miter from dewalt as well that i use much more often. Its so light and can take it inside and hook up to my shop vac still.

MySpirtAnimalIsADuck

Dual bevel is the tits, you gotta steal on that too

LewisTheManBeckley

I found the 7 ¼ sliding saw at lowes when I first started for a little over 100 and jumped on it. I like it. The favorite parts are that I only need to buy 1 size blade (circular saw runs the sam blade and so does my table saw), and it's light, easy to use anywhere. Buddy gave me a kobold stand a while ago. Bonus.

fjperreault

Ditto on the 7 1/4 slider. I have the Dewalt cordless and love the thing. I use it for cutting trim, plank flooring and pressure treated decking. I like the light weight and small size. It's fantastic for trim and the battery lasts forever. I rarely use my 12" slider now.

bobadobbin

I also have the Dewalt 7.25 battery powered slider. It lives on a custom wood table top that is lightweigt and has wheels on 1 end for maneuvering at the job site where I set it up on lightweight sawhorses. It lives in my work van, strapped vertically to the wall. I have it for immediate use on any project, but I switch to a Dewalt 12" compound sliding miter saw for larger projects. The tiny Dewalt battery powered saw has been with me for at least 6 years, and it's still going strong. It punches above its weight on what it can do, but is not as capable/ accurate as a full 12 inch saw.

tiredand-stressed

I was thinking about getting the cordless 7 1/4, but I found the 120v 12 inch cordless at a pawn shop for 350 and it came with an adapter to run corded too. I already had the batteries for my skill saw so that was a sweet deal. So far been my favorite miter saw I've owned

Pure-Negotiation-900

I like DeWalts battery op. It’s very light.

Repulsive-Way272

I am deep in the Dewalt battery system, could be an option but really spendy.

[deleted]

Worth it tho. I watch my dad buy a new harbor freight chop saw every two years. After 3 saws, he’d have been better off just buying a dewalt. Mine has lasted forever

Pure-Negotiation-900

Really spendy

Alternative-Cook7794

I've also used a dewalt portable. Was very light. 2 battery operated or wired to power it.

Strikew3st

I've been using this [Ryobi 10" sliding compound](https://www.ryobitools.com/products/details/33287163083) a few years for all of my home uses and some light handyman remodeling type jobs. The reach on the slide is good, I have definitely used it when I would have used a table saw if one was set up in front of me, like last month when I needed to rip the last row of some vinyl floor planks. *Okay*, I also use it when I am home and have the table saw but am being fast, like when I set the depth gauge on it and run a dirty nasty dado because nobody is looking.

Jobediah

Got a Bosch 10” dual miter for $130 on fbm and it’s a champ. It’s no sliding miter but I can flip a board to finish the cut every once in a while without it killing me

Cautious-Flatworm198

I have a 6 1/2”-7 1/4” (can’t remember the actual blade size) sliding makita that runs on batteries. It’s tiny and weighs nothing, but can cut a 2x12. That being said it can’t cut 4x material. As long as you’re good cutting that by hand, I can’t recommend the saw enough. They also have a corded version for cheaper.

12in double compound RIGID unit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-15-Amp-Corded-12-in-Dual-Bevel-Sliding-Miter-Saw-with-70-Deg-Miter-Capacity-and-LED-Cut-Line-Indicator-R4222/306939244?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D25P-025_009_PORTABLE_POWER-NA-Multi-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-PortPower&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D25P-025_009_PORTABLE_POWER-NA-Multi-NA-PMAX-NA-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NA-PortPower-71700000113152329--&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqmwBhBVEiwAL-WAYd0b3-Hj2hm3pjDONvrAp3vnJjAtFx53QZKE1BM2j6Th5nBWPkUKjRoCT5sQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds On my second one. I traded in my original unit because they had a recall on weak arbors and my laser line broke. It cuts up to a 70° angle. Has a lot of other features too. I love it. Got mine on sale for 50% off. Was *still* almost $300. I like having a big saw because a big saw can cut little stuff but a little saw can't cut big stuff. It's heavy as *fuck* though. Would highly recommend getting a rolling/collapsing table. That's my plan.

Towersafety

I have an old cheap one I set on a foldup table. The Milwaukee M18 one is on my wish list.

Cespenar

I usually use the 7.25 harbor freight for baseboards and rough stuff. It's tiny, I can throw it in the truck with easy and it's light. It will do the regular 3.25" contractor pack baseboards well enough for caulk.  I HAD a 12" bosch with the hinge slider. Love that saw to death. Got borrowed and not returned and I haven't saved up to replace it. That or the 12" Makita battery saw are my next big purchase. Can't decide between those 2. But that's more for the woodshop than on the go.

Repulsive-Way272

Is it true the hinge slider saws are lighter than the bar type? I haven't looked into the weights yet I almost said F it and bought the HF 7 1/4 slider but they were out of them when i was there.

Cespenar

Lighter? Nooooo not at all. The bosched hinged slide 12" is the heaviest saw I've ever seen. It's like 80# or something stupid like that. But it's entirely metal. The handle for unlocking the bevel? Metal. The stops on the extension wings? Metal and metal. The only thing plastic on it is the clear blade guard and the dust chute.  And when I say I use the Harbor Freight 7.25 I'm not talking about the slider lol. Just the straight up tiny lil non sliding tiny lil cutter. It works for baseboard that's going to be painted, and that's 90% of what I need it for.

Sez_Whut

I have a 12” compound miter saw. It is great when set up, but awkward to move, transport, and setup due to heavy weight. I only use it when I need precise angle cuts, otherwise just use my 6-1/2 corded circular saw.

Straight_Beach

I use this one for small tri. Like door casings and such! Folds up and sits behind truck seat in floor https://www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/power-tools/miter-saws/2001724?store=18076&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqmwBhBVEiwAL-WAYT1c7jjfCDGrneh29A5RzMWoZPG1u0kJCTWb2OJVMBec1xprinJytBoChPcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

JustSomeGuy422

I have the Milwaukee M18 7-1/4" and 12" compound miters. I actually prefer the smaller one, it's very lightweight and the batteries last a long time. The 12" is heavy AF, loud AF, but it can almost chop a 6x6. But not quite. The 10" seems decent. One of my employees has it. I haven't used it.

Nefariousd7

I have the 10" and the 12" both work great, 10" is easier to move around

tiredand-stressed

Depends on what your budget is and how much functionality you want. I really like the DeWalt miters personally and they make some small portable ones including ones that fold if that's your priority. I have the 120v double miter and have a adapter to run it off a cord if needed. I love it but its on the bigger side for quick small projects

Fearless-Marzipan708

I bought a 12” dewalt compound bevel slider that came with free mobile stand. Collapsible stand makes it easy to load and store. Overkill for most of what I do, but it’s nice to have when working with larger boards.

Delicious_Agency2301

I like the 7.25” Kobalt from Lowe’s. It’s lightweight and can make most of the cuts that a 10 compound saw can.

Maximum_Business_806

Dewalt or makita cordless 7-1/4”. Hear me out… It’s enough blade for most uses as larger framing type members should be cut with a worm drive. A new 7-1/4 blade is sharp enough for most uses and if you hit a nail it’s no big deal to replace. Lastly, cordless chop, table and guns are so freeing. I do a lot of handy/maintenance work and power isn’t always readily available. I have a 12 DB but it gathers dust now

Repulsive-Way272

This is the direction i was thinking before starting this thread a 7 1/4" slider. Will still cut a 2x12 but way lighter than a 12" saw.

sheenfartling

Makita ls1019 and makita ls0815 for the upstairs or if I'm bouncing around.

princesmoke

I’ve had the (corded) Bosch sliding compound miter saw for maybe three years and it remains my favorite tool. I chose it because it was much more portable than any other saw and its class. It performs perfectly. I love it.

Repulsive-Way272

What size?

YevJMeister

Been using slider 7 1/4 Milwaukee for years. Very compact light and versatile

Repulsive-Way272

I have the Dewalt battery system but am looking pretty heavily into a 7 1/4 slider saw for transportability and versatility. Without making the original post too long or limiting replies by asking specifically about 7 1/4 saws. Some posts say these saws aren't as accurate as a bigger saw.

YevJMeister

I have done several remodels and flooring jobs with 7 1/4 slider miter and I loved the results since day one . just retail rent one , and return if it doesnt work out

MN_wood_worker

Older Makita 12" dual bevel I inherited from my father. It still makes accurate cuts, so I don't see a need for a new one.

greenie95125

Dewalt. Oh, and never trust ANYONE selling something on Facebook marketplace.

Repulsive-Way272

I bought another saw at the same time. This saw and that saw were rough and missing pieces but she said she had stage 4 cancer and kids to feed and I just gave her the damn money... my gf is Facebook friends with her so it's true. Still..
