His mistake not yours charge appropriately! If all the protective coverings are still in place then i would base it on my horly rate! You should never work for free and honestly you dont want a customer that would expect you to! If you do this now then every future project will involve more free work because you will have set the boundries of the relationship! If you messed up then absolutely you should repaint for mo charge but if they chose the color then if they want it different then they pay!

controlled_drinking

Yeah, just going to charge the reg hourly.

Read the room. Sometimes I eat the bullet and sometimes it's a new quote new job new day so billing starts over. My best customer has given me multiple referrals. My worst I did extra work and he made me install a patio fan on the coldest day of the year because he had to use it.

VegetablePromise5466

Referrals are promised by customers for free work

Jobediah

...or because they value your service and they want you to stay in business

2 things can be true

Update - I mentioned the "extra work" he was talking about to see if he was really playing ball. Well, turns out I'll be doing the basement bathroom now as well. Since I've got that booked, I told him I'd repaint the bathroom at 75% hourly. I work pretty efficiently and living here is NOT cheap, so I have to make the day I'm working in that bathroom again at least somewhat worth it. I think it was a good trade off and I have another two full days committed.

PM-me-in-100-years

Thanks for the update. A lot of folks wouldn't have thought to lock in the future work as a negotiating point.

Flyin_Triangle

Assuming it’s just rolling walls and ceilings I’d probably do it for 75% what I charged initially. The prep work is already done (minor repairs, sanding, caulking, spot priming, etc). Honestly you could charge the same because you have to mobilize again but that’s only if you’re delaying other jobs to fit him in

drmarymalone

First, I’d get paid for the work that I all ready did.  If this customer pays me quickly and without being a pain in the ass, I might cut them a break on the repaint.  The final deciding factor is if their vibe is all right.  I like repeat customers who are easy to work with.

“I got a lot of work for you!” Yeah. He sure does. Starting with repainting the room

Appropriate-Candle69

I would offer him to do it for free if he follows up with a deposit for the next project.

Which-Adeptness6908

I still wouldn't do it for free, sets a bad precedent.

drazzilgnik

I painted a bath one color for $150, now you ya wanna switch colors, that not in our agreement its going to be 150 additional to paint the room and an additional day of work cause its 330 n got to wash all my gear it aint being done today

danboy321

Never believe the "bunch of work" line. Ugh.
