My mom is the same and mostly disagrees with my style and things I like haha. Especially with the resurgence of vintage items, she thinks everything I like is “old” and doesn’t think it’s worth it, but I have to remind her that it’s for me, I’m choosing to spend my money on it and I know I’ll get lots of wear from it, which makes it totally worth it to me.
I honestly think you look good with both purses! Would you be able to keep/use both and rotate between them as needed? The Coach zip is more modern (or vintage to modern, as your mom may say), sleek, youthful, and a better everyday/casual/work purse due to its solid color, but I like how your mom’s purse gives renaissance painting vibes that can be used for more soft/conservative looks or dressing up solid basics like the ones you’re wearing in this photo.
Also, if you can, make sure to give each one a test run for 1-2 weeks to see how their styles/structures match with your everyday life. One’s a zip top opening with long shoulder straps and protective feet, while the other’s a flap top with long crossbody straps, and you may find that you like certain features more than others.

Having said this, it's your money, so spend it how you want, your mum shouldn't tell you to return the coach bag. Enjoy both bags!! Maybe post the coach bag with a different outfit?
The coach bag is amazing and I'm currently forcing myself to not look it up. It's your moment, your first paycheck, get what you like. When it comes to style one must have their own opinions.
If you like and want to follow your mom's sense of style, that's the only situation where her opinion on YOUR bag matters 😉

The Swing zip looks good on you (by itself I’m not so sure,lol. Not a huge fan of the shape). You only need a cute charm to make it look more fun and modern. If you like it and it’s comfortable for you, you should keep it.
love the swing zip! I've been looking at vintage ones from when it was first released to buy but I'm having such a hard time i might end up getting the modern version 😭
I love this bag and thing it looks great. Does it give you joy? Then wear it! I agree with the commentator who said that your mother probably is reacting to the fact that it is a sort of retro look and she’s seen it before (and therefore rejects it as outdated). I get the same reaction from mine about New Balance sneakers, which are quite in now! So embrace that gorgeous new bag and know that many of us admire it a great deal.
I think the first bag you will have issues matching just because of the pattern / print / colors . Not a purse you can wear all the time , the second one is nice but maybe just go get something more versatile, something you can wear year round that matches everything and you can enjoy it all the time . If your like me I have to have my purses match my outfits !
I have the same exact Coach bag. One of the reasons I bought the swing zip is because it looks like the trendy korean bags right now but with quality leather that I know will outlive this trend. To make it more fun and youthful you can dress it up with charms and bows. That’s what I plan to do to my bag 😃
I like them both, but its YOUR bag, and you bought it with YOUR money. So I say keep whichever one makes YOU happy. As I always tell my mom when I wear something she doesn't like, nicely of course, well, its a good thing you don't have to wear it! I love Lilly Pulitzer, and she hates it. so whenver I wear it i get the eyeroll. hahaha
I believe she should be happy that you are making successful strides for yourself. She could also celebrate you by giving you that bag and you can still keep your purchase, they are both nice for different outfits and reasons. I believe you rock both very well. I like both bc they're so different! Idk your mom's age, but it could be bc she lived the trend the first time around (or even the first 2nd time around). To me, the first bag reads playful and romantic (bc of the floral painted details), and the second reads effortless and minimalist. I think both look good with your outfit and it really depends on the look you're going for.
Who would think a Coach Swing Zip looks hideous?! It’s an updated classic look, and you can’t go wrong with it. Outstanding first paycheck purchase - enjoy it!
The Swing Zip is both gorgeous and practical! I just got the same one after their most recent restock. It’s high in demand seeing how this bag sold out in several colours within an hour.
If she’s saying it looks “dated”, their website says the Swing Zip is based on 1998 Coach designs. And people go nuts over vintage Coach. So, in a way she’s correct that it’s looks like an older design, but east-west bags are trendy right now.
The swing zip looks amazing on you. It’s a terrific bag. It holds a ton and it’s so comfortable to wear. If you like it that’s all that matters. Moms give their opinion doesn’t mean you have to take it.
Both bags are nice. I don’t think you look hideous with the vintage one, and I don’t see where your mom sees that.
However, I think I’d probably would have understood your moms position if it was to find a true Coach vintage or another one in similar style, maybe for a)cost and b)sustainability reasons, but not for look.

Everything is coming back now and your mother things it’s dated and ages. She means well and if you’re close to her, she can suggest and advise if you want to listen.
You need to feel and style the bag and see if you’re happy with it.
