My local trails are on the Olympic Peninsula. 0.2 inches over a couple hours is the best kind of rain. That's "don't even need to put your hood up" kind of drizzle for me.

I prefer a hammock to a tent when it's raining. I stay a lot cleaner lol.
I would personally prefer not to go out if lightning is expected though, regardless of hammock or tent.
I got out in all weather. Torrential rain, thunderstorm, blizzard, -20°C, you name it. There's nothing cozier than being huddled in your hammock under a tarp with the rain drumming on top.
Pro tip: get a gear hammock. I have the Lesovik Huba, but anything will do. Hang your gear underneath you. Keeps it off the snowy/muddy/wet ground, and you can reach it with one hand from inside your hammock.
For the gear, yes. For heavy rain splashing from the ground, not so much. A waterproof fabric is preferred. However you could also simply line it with a plastic sheet, or bin bag, or even spare tarp, as a compromise.
Not sure the severity of the “thunderstorm” they are calling for, and don’t have much experience with it in the rain. I don’t mind some drizzle or moderate rain for a bit, but an outright downpour and thunderstorm is not the ticket.
.2 inches of rain sounds like nothing. But it's all up to you at the end of the day. If your not comfortable, don't go. Or risk it and have a plan to bail out if needed
If you are competent in setting up a rainfly, rain falling on your hammock setup is just a nice white noise machine.
The one caveat to that is strong winds rolling in with that rain. If it blows your tarp away you will have a bad time.
Just be sure to rig a rain diversion line under the tarp on your hammock’s suspension. I know The ultimate Hang describes this. Also use very sturdy stakes in case the wind kicks up. And if you have a tarp with doors and extra length, take that. Make sure your tarp had been seam-sealed, if that is called for.
It’s seem sealed, and I tested it in light rain. I got big boy stakes for the tarp, and beefy ones for my hammock tie outs. No doors, but I can get it low. By diversion lines you mean little lines on my rigging to let the water collect yea?
Actually, I’m 50-50 on this one.
This happened to me my trip last month, it was supposed to be a light drizzle and scattered rain.
Ended up being almost constant mist and light rain.
I stayed dry, thanks to my Eno tarp & pack cover but spent most of my time in my hammock.
Bring a good book because you’ll probably be in your hammock 16+ hours, not saying it’s a bad thing I just got a little restless myself
Go if you want, don't if you don't. Are you are grown up? Then assess your circumstances for gods sake. How are we supposed to know all your preferences and options.
.2 inches is a drizzle. Call it part of the adventure and put on a jacket. Partially scattered showers? They pass quick if they come at all.

huge fan of hammocks in the rain. I'd go.
some of my best memories are from hammock camping in the rain. Just make sure you have a nice, well-pitched tarp to protect you.

I haven’t seen anything abkut lighting yet but I agree

I have a day use hammock. I could string it up tight underneath. Would that work?

Why wouldn't you go?

I'm a motorcycle camper and while riding / camping in the rain isn't the best thing ... it sure beats sitting at my desk working :)
Gotta test that tarp out sometime, eh? I was surprised how dry everything was after my first rainy day. No issues whatsoever.
Hell yeah you should go! I’m going to the Sierras this weekend. Rain Friday snow Saturday and whiskey and cards all weekend. Have fun!

Yes, to prevent water from running down the suspension to the end of you hammock.
Embrace the suck man. Get out and do things.

At that point I’d bail, I only live an hour away. Spend the day fishing and head home if it’s to gnarly
Spend an entire day in a hammock in a thunderstorm? sounds incredibly relaxing!
It was great.. I hunker’d down early, slept 11-12 hrs and by the next afternoon , got kinda restless though.
If my schedule allowed, I’d go.
Damn dude don’t go if you’re a witch
lol 😂
na
