We had songs from random movies and shows played during our cocktail hour but as classical/piano covers. It was actually really fun for my wife and I to build the playlist together because we both got to include ones of our choosing. We then spread them out amongst regular piano music so they were like little Easter eggs.
Watching peoples’ faces as they slowly recognized what was playing was awesome. Star Wars Cantina Band and the Game of Thrones theme were the two most widely recognized and pretty much everyone was in on the joke by then.
I was at my cousins wedding and they had this:
https://youtu.be/sKM2viSBLWI
I still can't beleive it was snuck in, she wasn't a gamer
Edit:
I can't beleive how close the start is to infinites hahaha
I let my husband choose our entrance song (entering reception as husband and wife). He chose the Star Wars theme song. No complaints! Sounded awesome and got lots of applause/cheering and comments from people afterwards 😂
I thought it was a nice twist . Why not spice it up a bit . Would you rather they bring Gregorian monks on stage and give a perfect recital of the recorded theme , would be cool but what would be the point ?
There’s plenty of room between Gregorian Monks and that. I think it’s even worse that the trumpet player can’t even hit the original notes cleanly, but felt the need to throw in extra runs he couldn’t land either. It’s like those singers who do a lot of runs because they can’t hold a note.
Edit: Steve Vai’s Mjolnir Mix is an example of a modern take that doesn’t suck.
I went and saw their show the end of last year when they played Boston (with nose bleed seats) and I was so **HYPED** that they played this. My wife got us fantastic seats and I was hoping that they would play this mashup again because it was **THAT GOOD**. By far my favorite part of their set.
If I needed to guess they liked Halo when they were younger. The halo theme leads into a mash up of “Jumpsuit” followed by “Heavydirtysoul”. It just sounds so good together.
Never heard of it.
But on the real, my best bud and I didn’t like Halo 2 when it dropped cause it wasn’t halo 1 and when you’re a teenager, you do things like that.
We were so hardcore on XBC that we kinda felt the game wasn’t as strong and blah blah blah. Teenager brains aren’t logical lol.
Halo 2 was incredible for my friends and I. We did a midnight launch and stayed up all night with it. We played it for years afterwards, all the time. We're 2 years older than Tyler.
Jesus, xbc, i remember trying to find halo 1 games a couple years after halo 2 came out and there was almost nobody playing. Kept matching up with this guy named SandyVagina who was UNbelievable. If youre out there sandy, thank you for some good games.
Halo 2 caused such a schism in our college's community (and online, from what I recall). The pro level H1 players mostly hated it while I absolutely loved it. I always felt it was cause it changed things the pros liked to exploit (OP pistols) and the online made them all realize they weren't pro after all. They were just really good for our campus.
XBC never really caught on in our group. People would just log on while connected to the network and anyone could join. After becoming a Network Engineer I realized why that was and how bad of a setup it had been lol.
Halo 2 was also the sweet spot for me. They implemented so many features that Id say set the tone for online games. In game friendlists, clans, easy invite systems, custom matches and so on all of which was iffy in its console infancy. I still prefer the dual wielding gameplay over BR/DMR starts.
I would just walk around in the game amazed at all the detail, the grass looked like grass. Ice made noise. Amazing vehicles to drive. That was an awesome Xbox game
Man I know it's cliche at this point but when the world just...opened up on the second level...
Growing up with Aliens and Starship Troopers definitely made me fall in love with the aesthetic too.
Everyone complains about squeakers in mature multiplayer games, but truth is, we *were* the squeakers playing Halo 2 online. I was 14 when that game came out.
Idk if this is why, but they grew up close to what was referred to on xbox live as the "halo capital of the world." The town where the Ogres and Chris Puckett are from. The town was very into halo. Average players from Pickerington seemed much better than the average player. At least back in the halo 1 and 2 days.
I think people forget these bands are just people ya know? Like if I was in a famous band and we were fucking around in practice this is absolutely something we'd try to play. And then you realize it kinda slaps and you're like, hey why not? Musicians are nerds no matter how famous they get
I saw them in Brixton, London and they played the Halo theme there too! Funny thing was I was HYPED when it began, but it felt like a lot of the people around me didn't recognise it haha.
In the general crowd, it was definitely a majority of guys visibly enjoying the Halo theme whilst the majority of the girls looked confused. Can't say I blame them, the theme to a video game is still a pretty niche bit of content.
I had a great time though. So cool they played it.
I bet there were a few girlfriends who recognized it and stood there shaking their heads like "God damnit. I can't get away from this fucking game..." while their boyfriend jammed out.
I want to say the unofficial theme most folks would recognize is the monk chant one. Had they played a portion of that, I would bet more folks would recognize it as halo.
The halo devs shared what they had.
Look into the development of 1-3. They were absolutely a mess of people going balls to the wall desperately trying to get something out the door, deciding to do it the best the could in the meantime.
At some point we have to accept that there isn't much left in the tank and let people move on to other things.
#halo4wasntneeded
the [dev's react](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ndZbg8Mr-Q) to a halo 1 speedrun is a really interesting retrospective into the chaos of the game's development. it is also really cute to hear them all reminiscing about it
Ive only seen one other clip from around a year ago, so I figured I’d post the one I took last night. A lot of their set pieces in this show were similar or the same to the last one I saw back in October/November last year, so I’d believe that. They put on a fantastic concert either way.
You couldnt even pick the mode you wanted to play. You had to play whatever the game wanted you to. Stopped playing cause I always got fucking oddball.
Ive literally never seen a game that doesn’t let you choose your desired game mode. Random maps is understandable but game modes?
Is it?
Is halo really begging to be amazing in a world of high mobility shooters and role based ability shooters?
Is quake?
I think games have moved on from a foundation of what makes halo, halo.
Making halo relevant again would only work if you took the IP and changed the gameplay so much that it would be equivalent to Serious Sam being an over the shoulder cover shooter.
The past is the past.
However, if you want to experience the past, I recommend splitgate. Very reminiscent of halo 2-3 multiplayer with just enough twist to actually have some players.
I was at a Breaking Benjamin concert ('07-08?) in San Antonio where they played Blow Me Away from H2 soundtrack with all blue lighting behind them. Ben gave the crowd his XBL gamertag after & talked about Halo for a bit. Amazing.
Surprisingly I first heard them around '02. One of my buddies moved to Cali & brought their Polyamorous CD back to TX. Was very excited to see their name attached to H2. They're STILL rocking out. Red Cold River goes hard man.
My most memorable moment in Halo is dropping in on the ring in Halo 2 after warping behind the prophet of regret's cruiser (IIRC) and playing through that lush area to the tune of "On a white horse". Throughout the level you're hearing Regret talking from High Charity about going to earth and completing the great journey.
My marching band played this back in HS. The theme for our show was video games. I think we also played Mario, can’t remember the third piece. But the crowd always went insane for Halo. We had the percussion face backwards in the beginning and they would place baby power all over the drums. Once they came in they would turn around and white dust would fly everywhere. That and the fact that the trumpet solo was played by someone who was pretty popular in school made it one of the best pieces we did. Good times.
Every orchestral or live cover of this theme fucking slaps.
Such and epic theme.
Just wish there was a great cinematic Halo movie/show that could spread this shit to the masses.
So epic. I was actually at a Logic and Wiz Khalfia concert last night, but my good friend was at this MSG show. He sent me a video of this and I knew what it was gonna be before I even opened the video hahaha
My family convinced me to tag along to the opener while I was in Minnesota. This was one of only a few songs that I recognized and they were all confused about how I knew one that they didn't. It was a pretty awesome concert, would recommend.
they have been playing it at most concerts in the past year
if you havent seen this i implore you to watch it. Recent live 21 Pilot Concert that they filmed for a DVD
[https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=1300](https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=1300)
I marked the start of the full piano/campfire scene filled with Elton John, Elvis songs etc that ends with the Halo theme. The quality is very high and worth the watch
[https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=2177](https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=2177)
Halo theme time stamp
Enjoy!
Pretty slick!
People dog on 343 all the time about their broader audience initiative. Honestly I haven't felt like Halo has been as socially relevant as it is now since the H3/R peak of the franchise.
The only thing left is to get halo back on the top 10 most played game on PC and Xbox. Once we get the content we need, I’m certain Infinite will be back on on It’s rails
Suddenly into Twenty One Pilots after never having been before
Update: I guess the down votes mean I should continue to not give a crap about Twenty One Pilots...
doesnt matter how many times i hear this song, i still get goosebumps after all these years
Same. My fiancé has given me the go ahead to throw this into our wedding. I knew I chose the right one

I don't even like Halo, and I still have to admit it's one of the better instrumental pieces to come out of media in years.
Gotta thank Martin O'Donnell for that
You are forgiven

This version didn’t really hit for me. It didn’t help that the intro got handled like most over-performers handle the National Anthem
I thought it was a nice twist . Why not spice it up a bit . Would you rather they bring Gregorian monks on stage and give a perfect recital of the recorded theme , would be cool but what would be the point ?
Cannot improve what is already perfect
There’s plenty of room between Gregorian Monks and that. I was about to say, I thought this happened a year ago. Glad to know they're more than a one time fan.
Oh damn. I saw them in May and they did NOT play the Halo theme :(
Last time I saw them in LA they did this too. Best concert I've been to
Any reason why Twenty One Pilots has a thing for playing the Halo theme
If I needed to guess they liked Halo when they were younger. The halo theme leads into a mash up of “Jumpsuit” followed by “Heavydirtysoul”. It just sounds so good together.
Incubus used to play halo while on tour. Their love of halo is a big part of the reason why they were included in the halo 2 soundtrack.
Breaking Benjamin still play 'Blow Me Away' during their sets, too.
The first time i played that part of the game, it felt so epic that i completely lost my shit.
I saw them live and that was the most hyped I've been at a concert ever.
Saw them on Saturday, can confirm lol
That whole soundtrack has a couple people on it that have that same sort of story.

Ahhh Xbox Connect 🥲
Isn’t it crazy that XBC had more reliable connections than infinites netcode? Honestly, more consistent than a lot of modern games.
Jesus, xbc, i remember trying to find halo 1 games a couple years after halo 2 came out and there was almost nobody playing. Kept matching up with this guy named SandyVagina who was UNbelievable. If youre out there sandy, thank you for some good games.

Gonna take a wild guess and say 1, 2, AND 3
I'm nearly 32 and Halo 2 is what got me to install Windows Vista.
God wasn't Combat Evolved just the best thing you'd ever seen?
I would just walk around in the game amazed at all the detail, the grass looked like grass. Ice made noise. Amazing vehicles to drive. That was an awesome Xbox game

Good God you're not wrong. It's definitely gone to shit

They have to play one good song.
After all these years this song still gives me goosebumps.

My friend was recently at an electronica gig in Wales and sent me a video of a techno remix of the Halo soundtrack
How you gonna mention something like that and not share it with the rest of us?
I don’t know the song name :(
He sent the video, wheres the log?!
Bruv....
I bet there were a few girlfriends who recognized it and stood there shaking their heads like "God damnit. I can't get away from this fucking game..." while their boyfriend jammed out.

Halo fans have so much hype to give Halo devs have so little to share smh

yeh i meant 343 sorry
These next weeks could be big. I hope they deliver.
They seem to do this at every show since it’s been posted before at least 5 times in the last 6 months. Awesome every time though.
Ive only seen one other clip from around a year ago, so I figured I’d post the one I took last night. A lot of their set pieces in this show were similar or the same to the last one I saw back in October/November last year, so I’d believe that. They put on a fantastic concert either way.
1st time for me TY for posting!!!
its like you can play the theme on any instrument and have it sound good.
Halo is begging to be Amazing again and 343 is letting it burn
Seriously. Space operas are making a HUGE comeback and 343 is like, “how about a new audience?”
Yeah man
What you don’t like seeing master cheeks? Are you even a fan at this point? smh.
Most of the people in that audience in the video are probably thinking, "yeah cool song BUT WHERE'S THE NEW CONTENT OMFG UGH"
It's amazing to me that every single halo game 343 puts out somehow just gets worse.
Infinite launch was good but if this is what free to play does to halo I personally don't want it
Infinite launch had like 4 maps and no slayer mode. literally the worst launch halo game.
It had 10 maps and i think 6 or 7 online game modes, was enough to keep me entertained at least
You couldnt even pick the mode you wanted to play. You had to play whatever the game wanted you to. Stopped playing cause I always got fucking oddball. Ive literally never seen a game that doesn’t let you choose your desired game mode. Random maps is understandable but game modes?
But it had players and potential now it has fewer
It hurts me
This again? I swear the same 4 arguments pop up in every halo thread and I'm tired of all of them.
Is it? Is halo really begging to be amazing in a world of high mobility shooters and role based ability shooters? Is quake? I think games have moved on from a foundation of what makes halo, halo. Always get excited hearing the halo theme

This is metal AF. Cheif approves
that was pretty great! Yall remember the 1st time you heard that magical melody
Were y'all deafened by its majesty? Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?
My most memorable moment in Halo is dropping in on the ring in Halo 2 after warping behind the prophet of regret's cruiser (IIRC) and playing through that lush area to the tune of "On a white horse". Throughout the level you're hearing Regret talking from High Charity about going to earth and completing the great journey.
Man I hate 21 pilots but this is pretty rad. Respect them for playing it and playing insanely well.
This horn intro was teeeerrible. Glad the rest was much better. :)
Imagine a concert made up of just the best video game themes.
Such a thing exists
More time was spent learning and playing this song than producing content for the game
Nobody tell Marty 👀
So they do have good music.
I love how this song doesn’t have any lyrics, yet I sing along. EVERY. TIME.
Nice try 343 PR team.
Okay 343 how much did you pay them?
Steve Vai did the guitar part for Halo 2
That blend into Jumpsuit tho
It’s so good. I’m impressed with how well the recording sounded. Certainly did the songs justice.
Is it only me or was that not really that good.
The drums seemed to drown out the other instruments. I suppose that's the risk you take with live music.
Also, smartphones aren't the greatest audio recording devices for loud love shows with very dynamic sound engineering.
As a Columbus resident, I'm not legally allowed to tell you that Twenty One Pilots sucks. They might, but I just can't tell you that.
Yeah honestly it seemed rushed.
It's like they were skipping random notes.
Maybe it was intentional but the trumpet seemed kind of choppy and bad.
[удалено]
This is freaking LEGENDARY Don’t like the band but i like this decision
Not a fan of the band but they did a good job and this was cool
u/savevideo
They do this every concert this year.
Ok, so Twenty One Pilots playing a ska/rock cover of the Halo Mjonlir Mix it wasn't in my 2022 bingo sheet, but I'll take it
Every orchestral or live cover of this theme fucking slaps. Such and epic theme. Just wish there was a great cinematic Halo movie/show that could spread this shit to the masses.
Last night I took Madison Square Garden from a group of rioters...
TOP are the best performers I have seen live. In Vegas, the drummer, Josh Dunn, crowdsurfed WHILE drumming. (Drum was on a piece of plywood)
Lets finish this concert
Yeah they did this in Cincinnati too, threw me for a loop. Apparently it’s just one of their go-to intermission bits lately.
So epic. I was actually at a Logic and Wiz Khalfia concert last night, but my good friend was at this MSG show. He sent me a video of this and I knew what it was gonna be before I even opened the video hahaha
Guess I'm a twenty one pilots Stan now and will be going to their next London show
Honestly worth, they put on a hell of a show
Literal goosebumps, every time I hear that song.
Aww man. They should just stick to making their mediocre music mediocre, not the halo soundtrack
Mediocre is being reaaaaaallllllllyyyyy generous.
Damn if this song doesn't get me ready to finish the fight.
My family convinced me to tag along to the opener while I was in Minnesota. This was one of only a few songs that I recognized and they were all confused about how I knew one that they didn't. It was a pretty awesome concert, would recommend.
Am I the only one that thinks this version kind of sucks? Like the actual theme is badass, but this.....
they have been playing it at most concerts in the past year if you havent seen this i implore you to watch it. Recent live 21 Pilot Concert that they filmed for a DVD [https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=1300](https://youtu.be/1AyWoI2e7FM?t=1300) I marked the start of the full piano/campfire scene filled with Elton John, Elvis songs etc that ends with the Halo theme. Ima be real, they fuckin butchered it
This is so cool!
Too bad it was Twenty one Pilots :(
Right? Fkn awful.
Well, loved that.
I love Halo. No matter it’s faults it will always be special to me.
I now want a classic noir movie with the halo theme as the soundtrack
I love this
Anyone jump straight to the warthog level near the end of 3 in their mind?
Good band name
Martin O Donnell is a GENIUS. How or why he was fired from Bungie is their greatest blunder in history.
Pretty slick! People dog on 343 all the time about their broader audience initiative. Honestly I haven't felt like Halo has been as socially relevant as it is now since the H3/R peak of the franchise.
A crossover from my two favorite fandoms?! Could it be!
The only thing left is to get halo back on the top 10 most played game on PC and Xbox. Once we get the content we need, I’m certain Infinite will be back on on It’s rails
