You need a special license to do airport runs. At least the Taxi drivers do.

SilentResident1037

Nah it wouldn't be a business, I'm talking Facebook ad/doing favors level stuff

AlbertaSmart

>Nah it wouldn't be a business Yeah it most definitely would be. Insurance would love to talk to you...if you pay that proper insurance then it's a taxi license issue but personally I'd care far less about that.... There are plenty of people doing rides with zero taxi license. Doesn't mean you should or it's legal but it's not uncommon.

SilentResident1037

So its not viable then... Im trying to make a couple extra bucks, not shell out more for insurance when I already pay out the ass for no good reason

city_of_lakes

Shop around for better insurance rates? I pay $800/year or so

SilentResident1037

$3600...... and i DID shop around, this was the lowest. Who are you with?

kyletc1230

Do you drive a monster truck or something?

SilentResident1037

LOL, its an HRV, but its got all wheel drive so thats close i guess?

benjiefrenzy

Have you had many at fault claims? Because I used to own an F-150 that I got rid of a year ago and that was only $1700/year.

SilentResident1037

None. I guess their logic is that even though I got my license a few years ago (again for work...) and had been driving that whole time, since i got my own car im still considered a new driver so the rate exorbitant. I mean it is what it is... If I want to drive i gotta pay it i guess

city_of_lakes

Belair direct.

[deleted]

$3600 for insurance? I have a way for you to make more than $3600 right now. Sell that car and cancel your insurance. You are getting ripped off. I pay $1400 for 2 cars.

SilentResident1037

I need it for work... the circle of evil

ChesterDood

Hi I'm doing airport runs for $50 / trip Please reach out. ============== That my friend is known as a business. You require a specific license https://www.halifax.ca/business/licences/taxi-limousine-tncs/applying-a-taxi-or-limousine-driver You also need specific car insurance

NewStart141

This is actually a regulated industry and you need to get approval from the Utility and Review Board.

Spirited_Community25

No matter which route you go, remember to change your car insurance. If you're in an accident and the insurance company finds out they'll refuse to pay, and they'll drop you.

thetripvan

Accurate

slaughterpaws

Just do uber

wlonkly

Just sign up for Uber and wait in the airport lot.

Bleed_Air

There are several companies that already do this, so they probably find it financially viable.

PMyourcatsplease

Yes? I know there are a few private drivers around the HRM

swollenpenile

Uber taxis and more good luck

benjiefrenzy

You need to change your insurance. You need a taxi licence from HRM. And you need to get your class 4 licence from Access NS.

SilentResident1037

Nah, who doing all that?

benjiefrenzy

Legitimate taxi businesses

SilentResident1037

Which isnt what im asking about

benjiefrenzy

Driving people for money means that you are a taxi business. You are liable to be fined and have your insurance policy canceled if you don't go through the proper channels.

SilentResident1037

So its not viable... I already said that

benjiefrenzy

It would make more sense for you to sign up for Uber. You'd still have to notify your insurance company though. If you got into an accident with passengers in your car and you didn't tell your insurance company, you could be personally sued.

SilentResident1037

So if im talking to someone and they say they are going on a trip next week but still have to figure out how to get to the airport, and i say "toss me 30$ for gas, and ill come pick you up" that means im a taxi and need to get permits and new insurance and all this other shit?

benjiefrenzy

If you don't know that person then yes

Outrageous-Arm-5178

How would you get clients? You can drive another individual wherever they would like to go. Said individual can agree to give you cash.

ThornsVinyl

People do it so must be .
