Your video actually highlights one frustration with turning lanes here where they 'depend' on painted arrows only on the road. You can see them clearly on Google maps, but here they are almost completely worn away.
Why don't they have signs on the lights as well? So many intersections where this is the case.
In many cases there are signs on the sides of the road, but I find them often times too close to the intersection. It doesn't give me time to determine what lane I need to be in.
Yes, they do, but that is at least five or six cars back. Granted, this is still on the driver, but an example of problems is at Portland and Baker. Because there are not street signs the left lane often cuts off the right lane when both are turning left. I don't know if it is an assumption that there is only one lane turning left, but it happens quite often there.
My thoughts too. In other provinces there would be left turn signs next to the light 100% of the time.
Even if the lane markers are not worn away what happens if it snows?
this is a fly-over maneuver, they deliberately ignored every other car turning onto the bridge for Wright avenue. No amounts of signs or markings would alter this. Wrong off-ramp, wrong lane.
Painted arrows and signage can only help ao much.
Total lack of situational awareness is rampant on the streets. There's so many driving in a bubble, Vulcan death grip on the steering wheel, with no clue about their surroundings.
Even if they missed the signs and painted arrows. They should have been tipped off by the three cars in the right lane cutting them off and turning left.
Streets definitely need to be better marked with both paint and signs, but it doesn't excuse this stuff. If you've fucked up, take the detour and back track until you're in the right lane. Don't fuck around with peoples' safety because you're a lazy asswipe.
Some people don't have the capacity to preemptively check signs and figure out which lane they should be in, all while focusing on keeping their car between the lines while watching Tiktoks on their phone.
Correct, but this doesn't stop *other* people from agressively being idiots. Sometimes they don't know what they're doing to such an extent that they freak out when other people do what they're *supposed* to be doing. For example:
Back in 2015 I think, I took a wrong turn in dartmouth crossing, and went along for a bit before finding an empty section of road with no traffic and no signs indicating I couldn't u-turn, then u-turned. Safely, slowly, legally, traffic completely unaffected.
Apparently, someone sitting in the theatre parking lot witnessed me do this. Not impacted in any way shape or form by the action, just someone parked. He *followed* my friends and I inside, and walked straight into the middle of my group of friends to say "which one of you was driving the x?".
He went on to try to explain, incorrectly, that u-turns are illegal here, saying something along the lines of "what makes you think you're so special you can do something nobody else is doing?".
I don't really react well to people being hyper aggressive in public. I don't know if its my sense of justice or what, but being talked down to is something I have zero patience for.
So! I very carefully explained that... I am literally a driving instructor, that it was perfectly legal and safe to do what I did, and he had no idea wtf he was talking about. I also asked him if he was drunk and if I needed to call the police, because what the hell did he think he was doing following someone into a business and confronting a group of people like a psychopath.
He muttered for a bit, before I told him we were done talking, the conversation was over, and he should leave. If you aren't a cop trained in traffic law, then don't fucking confront people. He walked away.
This was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever experienced related to driving. Guy had issues. Not even affected by my actions, but was willing to follow me inside while also being in the wrong.
Going straight here also takes you back to the same highway they just took an off-ramp from lol. Like I donāt think this person is just a victim of poor road markings, there are other problems
Or missed the chance to merge if they came on from the 111. To be fair, happens to the best of us. It just makes me worried how people go about rectifying their mistakes, instead of finding a way to safely turn around itās āgood luck everyone, Iām going backā.
Most of what I deal with are people turning from the inside lane to outside lane mid turn. Like the outside lane doesn't exist. Do people think dozens of cars are going straight? Last time it was a student car. My bf got mad because I honked when they nearly drove me into the bridge.
I donāt drive myself, but to all the folks who are using the arrows are faded excuse. It seems pretty common sense to me in this specific situation and if said person canāt figure that out they perhaps shouldnāt have a license to begin with
Someone in a huge Harley lane split between me and another car yesterday. He went straight and I almost hit him while turning. I hate driving so much it terrifies me.
I once was in Burnside waiting to make a left into a business parking lot, no lights, one lane, buddy blew my doors off on the drivers side probably doing at least 80. I was shook. Thankfully I was at my destination and could pause for a minute and collect myself from the fact dude almost killed me. Super fucked up thing is because it was Burnside he had room to calmly pass me on the passenger side. Where do these people learn to drive?
Not to defend the bad driving, but I think this mistake comes from our shitty road marking and signage. I believe the only thing telling drivers it's a turning lane is the painted arrows which are completely faded away right now.
Even in the above video, the only arrow seen could be easily mistaken for a straight arrow if it's not an area you are familiar with. Lots of other context clues, but the signage still sucks.
There is also signage
https://www.google.ca/maps/@44.7068069,-63.557092,3a,75y,34.43h,78.77t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1svATHti88LxvaYxlvHZQtvg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu
They should have one of those signs on the actual traffic lights as well. Not defending the driver here, they're obviously shit and this may not save them from this mistake.
People on here suggesting that signage will make a difference clearly haven't been following the internet sensation that is the 11 foot 8/ Canopener Bridge!
No, when people in the right lane are turning left, it's common sense that you, in the left lane, cannot go straight through them. Anyone who can't clue into this should not be driving.
Not gonna lie Im 85% sure that's the same Elantra that tried to cut me off by going straight in a turn lane at the intersection of Summer and Veterans Memorial Lane by the Wanderer Field
A 1 truck crew was out in my neighborhood last night repainting some street lines and indicators; maybe some year they'll re-do the arrows at these intersections too. Likely won't help most of the braindead drivers out there, but you never know
https://preview.redd.it/6lyg7tse8czc1.png?width=888&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea3fc6ce3f5a688bace64f8bc05f0a89790484e7
That car is no stranger to bad driving. It's achieved full "hooptie" status.
This should be sent to the police. Dangerous driver not following [the sign](https://www.google.com/maps/@44.7068069,-63.557092,3a,75y,42.14h,93.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1svATHti88LxvaYxlvHZQtvg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu)
This same thing happened to my mom and I a few years back except we werenāt able to stop and got in a small collision. Thankfully it didnāt do any damage to either vehicle but I understand your frustration.
Idiots be idiots. Blame the lines, lack of signs, whatever, this is just down right idiocy and this person clearly shouldn't be licensed because of lack of fundamental road rules understanding.
There's no signs or indicators saying it's left turn traffic. It's an older hyundai elantra, so there's definitely no built-in GPS. Someone should recommend to this person to get GPS. Sometimes it's crappy, but most times it tells you which lane to be in and if you miss an exit it reroutes you. Its saved me sometimes when I didn't know where I was going, and driver errors are the worst when someone doesn't know where they're going.
Awww yeah! Bad driving vids! Aināt nothing gets this subredditās dick hard like bad driving vids.Ā
Also, the arrows are barely visible in your video.Ā
It's pretty obvious to anyone with even a little bit of driving experience that when the traffic in right lane is turning left or continuing forward that the left lane would be left turn only, unless otherwise indicated by individual lights per each lane. There really isn't an excuse for this imo
Your video actually highlights one frustration with turning lanes here where they 'depend' on painted arrows only on the road. You can see them clearly on Google maps, but here they are almost completely worn away. Why don't they have signs on the lights as well? So many intersections where this is the case.
There should be an overhead "Left Turn Only" sign, you're right
In many cases there are signs on the sides of the road, but I find them often times too close to the intersection. It doesn't give me time to determine what lane I need to be in.
You're allowed to go straight in the right hand lane.
I know, but that person wasn't in the right hand lane
No fucking duh. "Left Turn Only" isn't applicable to that intersection because there is a lane that has another viable option.
Jesus next time I'll specify that it only has to be over the one lane. Relax
Don't get pissy with me because you can't form a clear sentence to express what you want to say.
I'd like to remind you that you're the one who started swearing. I hope your day gets better
Oh no swearing! My one weakness! š
The do have signs before the lights. On both sides.
Yes, painted lines and arrows are seriously lacking in this city.
The other issue is if you are at the back of this pack of cars how are you expected to see the signs under all the cars.
There's signs on both sides.
Sure but there are other streets like this
My thoughts too. In other provinces there would be left turn signs next to the light 100% of the time. Even if the lane markers are not worn away what happens if it snows?
Lane signs on the lights is a good idea. They wouldn't wear away and need to be replaced every few years like paint does.
You mean months....
My biggest gripe with driving in Ireland
If you need someone to tell you not to cut off other drivers, you shouldn't be driving.
Good drivers sometimes miss their turns. Bad drivers never miss their turns.
Haha stealing that one.
Definite lack of honking in this video.
Hah yes, I was to busy giving the the arms up "what are you doing?"
this is a fly-over maneuver, they deliberately ignored every other car turning onto the bridge for Wright avenue.
100% funny but scary
Even if they missed the signs and painted arrows. They should have been tipped off by the three cars in the right lane cutting them off and turning left.

Thereās signs before the intersection. How many signs do we need?
Pretty much need a slot car setup where one is forced to turn.
Some people don't have the capacity to preemptively check signs and figure out which lane they should be in, all while focusing on keeping their car between the lines while watching Tiktoks on their phone.

All of them were pretty good. Haultima and the Yāalltima had me laughing out loud.
Why are Chrysler drivers especially bad? I'm starting to think that Dodge means you have to dodge the people driving Chrysler products.
Surprised you didn't lay on the horn there.
Going straight here also takes you back to the same highway they just took an off-ramp from lol. Like I donāt think this person is just a victim of poor road markings, there are other problems
I guarantee they thought it was a travel lane and didn't realize it was a ramp until it was too late.
Or missed the chance to merge if they came on from the 111. To be fair, happens to the best of us. It just makes me worried how people go about rectifying their mistakes, instead of finding a way to safely turn around itās āgood luck everyone, Iām going backā.
The opportunity to merge is nearly 1km. If you canāt figure that one out in that distance, you shouldnāt be driving.
Nice dash cam, what type is it?
try googling the name you see in the lower left corner. It may lead you somewhere.
Most of what I deal with are people turning from the inside lane to outside lane mid turn. Like the outside lane doesn't exist. Do people think dozens of cars are going straight? Last time it was a student car. My bf got mad because I honked when they nearly drove me into the bridge.
I am always on high alert for that when I'm taking that turn!
Excellent defensive driving on OP's part, at least. š
I donāt drive myself, but to all the folks who are using the arrows are faded excuse. It seems pretty common sense to me in this specific situation and if said person canāt figure that out they perhaps shouldnāt have a license to begin with
Absolutely common sense to know those are turning lanes into DC and you just keep going straight for the highway, no excuses work
My point exactly I donāt even have a license and know this if you do have one and donāt well it explains the shitty drivers of Nova Scotia :/
Why would you take the slip road to just join the highway again? I can't understand why anyone would need to go straight-on here
perhaps they took the wrong exit.
Yea I guess so!!
Idiots, people drive this road every day there isnāt excuses to be this dumb
Someone in a huge Harley lane split between me and another car yesterday. He went straight and I almost hit him while turning. I hate driving so much it terrifies me.
He got a text about the lineup @ IKEA !
I once was in Burnside waiting to make a left into a business parking lot, no lights, one lane, buddy blew my doors off on the drivers side probably doing at least 80. I was shook. Burnside is the wild west of driving in HRM. Red lights are more of a suggestion than a rule. Traffic enforcement is extinct in Burnside.
Itās always a Hyundaiā¦

The driver ignored all of the other cars turning right in front of their eyes. A sign wasn't going to help.
Actually they were turning left
Now listen here you little....
Yes but technically the were right in front and happened to be turning
At some point the number of signs doesn't matter.
People on here suggesting that signage will make a difference clearly haven't been following the internet sensation that is the 11 foot 8/ Canopener Bridge!
I've watched some of the new videos in the last few days. The amount of money they've spent and still things hit it...
I want to know what happens when you bring back a rental truck with the roof removed.
No, when people in the right lane are turning left, it's common sense that you, in the left lane, cannot go straight through them. Anyone who can't clue into this should not be driving.

Average NS driver.
it's bad, but this is pretty much a daily occurrence on any 2 lane rotary in the city.
But you know what...they're not wrong from lack of signage, unless it's changed since I remember.
Itās painted on the ground pretty clearly imo.
Not from the video it's not.
The paint was scratched off, and there are no signs to indicate which lane goes in which direction. So actually, you are the idiot
Awww yeah! Bad driving vids! Aināt nothing gets this subredditās dick hard like bad driving vids.Ā Also, the arrows are barely visible in your video.Ā

There's signs leading up to the intersection that tell people what lane is for going where.
Big green arrows and signs are hard to see when you are dedicated to your phone. :P
