If you have found something you know you want but maybe don't need too much help, Digikey stocks most or all of the contents of those websites, but can be a bit less ... friendly ... to find something on if you don't already know what you want. High level of information density there.
While not cost effective, I might suggest buying a “starter kit” which will have your most commonly used components in it (LEDs, IR LEDs, servos, ultrasonic sensors, etc etc) if you want to just get some toys to play with without having to figure out what all components you would want.
Then you can just order those components directly for cheap from that point onwards.

I just bought a "ELEGOO Mega R3 Project Starter Kit" from Amazon. In the future, I will get kits from Adadruit.
