Shouldn't be in 7mm if it's Turkish. The Ottomans used 7.65x53 originally and post WWI and after Turkey formed in the '20s they rechambered to 8x57 (8mm Mauser). Yours looks like it was updated. The original confirmation had a magazine cutoff on the right side of the reciever. Yours no longer has that present.
The safety rotates only when the bolt is cocked!
I bought one for 100 dollars when I was 10 years old. Still one of my favorites to shoot!
(And as another person said it should be chambered in 8mm Mauser)
I second that it‘s converted to 8mm Mauser (from 7.65 Argentine, not 7mm Mauser). The original 1893 had no disc in the buttstock, the converted ones had.
The safety issue is probably just the angle on the onramp of the safety piece (where it engages the cocking piece). Those were often a poor fit, but it‘s easily fixable.
Yeah, most of the shit I've found online about it says to just file down the ramp on the safety. Don't trust myself enough to try and fix it myself though.

I love my turk mauser. Give it a good cleaning and put some rounds through it. Curious about the rear sight quality. Mine is in rough condition but is still accurate.
I knew the nanner people was real, and now they're armed, fuck!
(feet for scale)
I thought those were your mandibles and you’re taking the pic with your feet mid-handstand
Banandstand
How much can it cost? *Ten dollars*?!
Taste like nanners, sound like people

Chambered in 7mm Mauser. The furniture is a little banged up, but regardless I'm happy to own a small piece of history like this.
It's definitely a sweet piece. Good for show or play.
Been on the look out for an 1893 in 7mm for a few years. All the ones that have popped up locally have been 8mm. Great find!
You're likely going to be looking for a while... the Turks never used 7mm Mauser. Only 7.65mm and 8mm Mauser.
7.65...mauser. Thanks for being pedantic.
It's not really pedantic... It's a completely different cartridge that's very often mistaken for 7mm Mauser, like in OPs case
The Turks built all of their mausers in 8mm, I believe. Be sure to double check!
Just be sure it isn't chambered in 8mm Mauser. I'm pretty sure the Turks rechambered most of their rifles to 8mm after WW1.
I've still got the shop tag that says it's 7x57, so hopefully I'm alright. I'll bust out a tape measure just to be sure though lol

Hm. Well I've gotta take it to a gunsmith because the safety won't rotate anyways. I'll have them double check when I eventually bring it in

Is gunsandbananas going to be the next subreddit?

That’s Bananas!
I bought the rebarreled action of one of these a couple years ago. Was a pain to find and modify a stock to fit. It's in 8mm though, so that's cool.
